James Brown

Strange Christmas Present: My sister gave me the original print of her picture of James Brown without knowing about his death (obviously). Which one of the subjects of her pictures will be killed by her gift giving next year?

Regardless of how the fantasy football season's last game ends, both Joe and the Baron earn managerial bragging rights until the first pitch of the 2007 season (yeah, yeah -- there's fantasy hockey, but how many of us really know what we're doing?). The AP Male Athlete of the Year:
Ok, I understand that Tiger Woods is a great golfer and also that he happens to be like the only black dude in pro golf, but there's no way that his achievements this year eclipsed those of L.T.
Also note who is #3...Roger Federer??? Honestly, does anyone under 50 care about tennis? How does he get 70 more votes than Dwayne Wade?
Most importantly, who are the fags that are responsible for this showcase of terrible judgement?

Bigworm on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 11:44 AM

Joe - if you are having sinus drainage problems causing the sore throat, I recommend going to an immediate care center and letting them know you have a sinus infection or something....get the zpak (sp?) that is the only thing that helped me....and I had that shit for about 5 weeks or so. If you get a zpak you will take a heavy dose (2 pills today) and one pill daily for 5 days total...by day 3 I was feeling much better.

Bigworm on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 11:51 AM

I am by no means an MD obviously, but I believe this shit causing the sinus infections to be bacterial....so cough and colds won't clear it up alone if that is the problem.

Bigworm on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 10:18 PM

Chris - I am simply stating my experience (that I recently had)......funny you battle a sinus infection for 5+ weeks taking OTC cough & colds and you don't get any fucking better, then you take 5 pills containing anti-biotics and within 7 days you are 100% again. I don't think that is over prescribing antibiotics my friend...that is taking care of the problem at hand. My sinus problems were bacterial and if you read my original post, I told Joe if it was bacterial this would help. If it isn't bacterial stick to cough and colds, I recommend pseudoephedrine based instead of phenylephrine....the efficacy is different for the two molecules.

Super resistant bacteria is already on its way amigo........that is the beauty of bacteria....it has been around for millions of years (or 5000 if you are a biblical man) and it will be around for another million (or 5000).

I have carpet in my garage for the tent and if we need more I'm sure we can steal it from Chris and Joanna's basement. Christmas lights need to be hung in and out of the tent for lighting. I have a lot of those but if we need more they are on sale everywhere. Dino said he went to the grocery already for the queso and he has the Getting Natty Psyched Part Deux (G.N.P.P.D.) song request list to create the CD. Dear Neighbor:

As you might have noticed by the tent in the backyard, we are once again hosting our annual New Years Eve celebration on Sunday. Some friends, family and neighbors will be around to ring in the New Year. If you are interested in some food or drink feel free to stop by the door is open or give us a call, we will be more then happy to bring something over. The menu includes chili, hot dogs, meatballs, nachos and queso, shrimp, cookies, brownies and much more. If the noise level gets to high please feel free to call me and let me know and I will take care of the situation. The number is 895-6844, I will have the phone with me all night. We just want to ring in the New Year in a positive way and we wish the same on you.

Have a safe and happy new year,

UofL fans should be very happy because Clemson beat Wake Forest.

douglas on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 3:57 PM

i'm hyped b/c they're tearing up one of the better defenses in the acc/nation. hopefully woodson sticks to his guns and doesn't start exploring his NFL options yet b/c he's probably a definite first rounder, especially w/ this good of a game on the national level.

joe on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:11 PM

4 more minutes till a 4 day weekend. Hell ya!! Gerald Ford is my favorite president (till the next one dies)!!

Wrecking Crew on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:23 PM

What is this 3 or 4 day weekend you all talk about? Fuck, I'd be happy with 2 goddamn days off in a row.

Just to reiterate the fact, I hate all of you fuckers.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:37 PM

UK wins 28-20.......Clemson made some good plays with UK playing a prevent defense (goddamn I hate the prevent defense). Also helps that the line judge missed two blatant holds by the Clemson O-Line (fucking Big East crew)......on both of their late TDs.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:38 PM

Douglas, don't give me this best defense in the nation shit. They didn't have the best defense in the ACC, let alone the nation. An 8-4 record with 3 conference losses doesn't exactly speak of a stellar defense, especially with teams putting up 20-30 points a game on them and 300-400 total yards. Fuck this SEC king of all conferences bull shit. The majority of the teams all suck equally bad. Don't say anything about the Big East either because I know they suck too.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:41 PM

Clemson and Ohio State are the only two programs in the country where their scoring offense and scoring defense were ranked in the top 15 of the country.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:41 PM

Clemson beat Wake and Virginia Tech and if they had not had a meltdown and won one more conference game UofL would be playing them in the Orange Bowl.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:42 PM

Chris and he didn't say best, he did say better. Clemson lost 4 games by a total of 6 points.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:42 PM

Before UK just beat them.

douglas on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:43 PM

thank you wes, i was in the middle of searching for some articles i read that talked about them being in the top 10 or 15 in the nation in total defense, but u beat me to the punch

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:44 PM

Regardless, this is a big win for UK.....8 wins this year and we beat a team that was favored to win.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:45 PM

That was the in game fact, what connection did Clemson have to Ohio State...and the answer was that they are the only 2 teams in the country to have their scoring offense and scoring defense to be in the top 15.

douglas on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 4:53 PM

some clips from an in-game blog by CJ writer eric crawford:

- Woodson throws his third TD pass against Clemson. They had given up six all season.
- That TD pass was the longest given up all season by Clemson, which had only allowed 6 passing TDs coming into the game.
- Ahh, the ghost (or mummy) of Hal Mumme. Faking the punt deep in their own territory. Beat writer Brett Dawson observed that the fake punt call had to be all Brooks. Archer walked over and gave him a handshake right after.

also, apparently the AD barnhart realized after the game that brooks's bonus for winning the bowl game was 15k, while his was 30k, at which point he immediately said he was deferring 7.5k of his bonus to brooks so they would match. (You'll have to forgive him for not knowing immediately, he hasn't had to write that kind of bonus check in his tenure at UK yet.)

douglas on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 5:02 PM

woodson just said in a post game interview he was definitely coming back next year

douglas on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 5:25 PM

it's not too late to change our minds and decide to go to porter's for new year's eve:

Jim Porter's, 2345 Lexington Road -- Live music by The Diamondbacks, Rock Station, the Boogie Men and a special guest. Party hats, horns, favors, confetti, balloon drop and a champagne toast at midnight. 6:30 p.m. $25 general admission. www.jimporters.com. 452-9531.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 7:07 PM

Yeah, Woodson isn't even testing his draft status.

Douglas - we made is on ESPN's front page. Here is the article and it has a nice post game interview with Coach Brooks. Chris maybe you should watch it too, because it does point out that Clemson is a top ACC team.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap...ameId=263630096

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 7:10 PM

And if you read the article - Clemson was the nations 12th ranked defense.

stew on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 8:17 PM

Congrats to UK, they beat what I thought was a pretty decent Clemson team. Woodson and Burton are probably the most underrated duo in the country. They have quietly put up really solid numbers. UK actually has a chance to be one of the top SEC teams next year if they can improve defensively.

Phil on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 8:31 PM

Normally I'd just let this go. UK played a good game, took advantage of the turnovers and Clemsons complete lack of execution in the kicking game and whooped them so good job UK and celebrate the win. But talking up the Clemson defense like they are some kind of power house based on the scoring defense stats is just dumb.

Clemson played SEVEN teams in the bottom 25 in the nation in offense. The other five teams weren't exactly world beaters either. FSU and GTech were in the bottom 40 in offense. BC was 46th overall but they did give up 30+ to them. Louisiana Tech did get up to 59th which isn't too bad but they did go 1-7 in the no defense WAC so that number is pretty skewed upwards . But wait, they did play a team that almost made it to the top 25 in offense - South Carolina right there at 27th! But they did give up around 500 yards to them and 31 points..

Yeah, Wake sucks and we can all agree that Louisville plays a shitty schedule and would probably be lucky to win one game in the SEC if they were able to escape the games without suffering enough deaths on the playing field to play more than one game. But can we please just drop this "and UK did this to one of the best defenses in the nation!" talk? Clemson ranks high in one defensive category and that's because they've played the 98th most difficult schedule against some terrible offensive teams with the exceptions of a couple of teams that put up 30 points on them. Hell, take a look at the whole ACC. Almost ever team in the damn conference is pretty much in the top 25 of defensive scoring because no one in the conference can score.

That being said, I think this win might be good enough to get UK into the the top 30 for the end of the year.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 8:44 PM

Philco - I completely agree with you, but look at it from a UK fan's perspective. This is a game where everyone has been talking about how bad Clemson is going to own us.....their 2-headed beast is unstoppable....Clemson has only allowed 11 sacks all year on their qb and only gave up 6 passing TDS all year. They were 1 point away from playing UofL in the orange bowl...lost a total of 4 games by 6 points..yada yada yada......no one gave us any respect and our defense shut them down. Their 2 headed beast running backs (who are really good by the way) were limited to 76 yards....UK is ranked #118 out of 119 in defense....well guess what...our defense has gotten better (we outplayed UT as well) and we have managed to stop the run.

We haven't had a moment like this in 22 years...we have been on probation the last several years...let us have our fun in the sun and go and get your win against Wake Forest.

Phil on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 8:57 PM

Oh, I wasn't disparaging the win at all. UK played 10x better than Louisville will look if the "let's go ride on a jetski!" article means anything.

I'm just saying the "top defensive teams in the nation" talk was a little too much...

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 9:02 PM

Always remember: The 3 types of lies are: lies, damn lies and statistics.

I don't think that any of us really believe it, however, when the sports analyst bill it that way it is really fun watching my boys prove them wrong.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 9:02 PM

In fact, my favorite comment from a sports-writer was (paraphrased of course) if Clemson doesn't win this game against UK, they should disband their football team.

Bigworm on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 9:03 PM

I expect UofL to win by atleast 24....especially since Clemson beat Wake Forest.

stew on Friday, December 29, 2006 at 9:35 PM

Hmmm...all this talk is very nice, but is anyone up for celebrating the arrival of yet another weekend? Specifically the last weekend of 2006? I don't know about anyone else, but I have a strong inclination to go out this evening... if anyone cares to join me (760) 613-5169

Brock on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 12:04 AM

Stew, if you aren't coming out tonight, I'll call you shortly.

Wrecking Crew on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 12:09 AM

HAPPY FUCKING NEW YEAR BITCHES!!!!

Brock on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 3:54 AM

Chris, you are a douchebag, for trying to fight some big fat blonde chick at R Place Pub. Everyone hates the dude in the orange shirt.

For the record, if you wear a Detroit Tigers hat, I'm calling you Magnum P.I. regardless of what kind of fuckin' Corvette you drive.

Jay on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 4:41 AM

Remember that time chris almost got us into a fight with the entire bar? Yeah, I don't think we need to worry about Detroit hat Derrick. I'm pretty sure that other guy was going to shoot him.

Brock on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 4:51 AM

I reminded him as I left the bar... I'm awesome. I've only saved Chris from death about half a dozen times.

Brock on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 4:54 AM

Except that one time he ran into the river.... I'm not dumb enough to chase his drunk-ass into the river.

M.D.'s are such high maintainence...

Bigworm on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 10:50 AM

What the fuck happened last night?

joe on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:16 AM

Bigworm on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:32 AM

Yeah sounds like it Joe. Just think, you are the one your parents are disappointed with...if they only knew.

Bigworm on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:33 AM

joe on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:45 AM

hot dogs and chili are bought. Oh ya and the high life. 100 cups are purchased.

Bigworm on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:47 AM

I can't wait to rip into a good ole highlife dog!

Bigworm on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:47 AM

Joe - what time are the festivities to start?

Marc on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:49 AM

Only a fan-fucking-tastic time. It was tiring to the only sober guy....me. but fun as hell.

Chris drinks from his bottle in the car as we celebrate fake New Years countdown while in the car picking up Brock. So Jay starts out not drinking, and they order him a Fosters and tell him to down it, he down, then they get another, he downs it too, they get another. he downs the third in less than 15 minutes from the first one. So......Jay gets drunk.

Also so were the others. I lost count after eight pitchers of beer, I believe. Stewie and Jay have a long creepy heart-to-heart sometime during the night. Brock and B-mac play shuffleboard for most of the night. Some guys give Stewie two dollars for being a Marine and serving our country. (They meant it as a compliment and as jukebox money.) Some guy recognizes Jay as a kid who rode the school bus with him and then proceeds to try and recruit our Marine and muscularly doctor to go to another bar and beat some dudes down because one of there friends got punched early that night by some guy at another bar. They had a pack of 4 guys of their own to fight, I don't know why they needed our guys. oh well it wasn't gonna happen.

Chris met a group of people who work at a mental hospital. He spends like an hour telling one girl not to go to medical school. Then Chris later almost gets Jay into a fight involving "a girl he had know right to talk to." Apparently Chris was trying to pick up a girl in a schoolgirl skirt for Jay, and her man didn't approve.

Chris falls in love with a guy who is wearing an Avenge Sevenfold t-shirt. And Brock calls him Magnum P.I. because he is wearing a Detriot tigers hat. He looks confused and pissed and say he doesn't like the Tigers, but he wears the hat because his name begins with a "D." Brock calls him and idiot and keeps talking about Magnum P.I. the guy leans over and says, "I'm starting to get upset here." Brock stop a random guy, a tall black man, and asks him the rationalty of the Tiger-hat-for-having-a-name-that-begins-with-D scenario. The guys confirms the guy in an idiot, to his face. He gets more upset. Brock asks him if his 380 is outside. The guys gets pissed and tell Brock angrily that he has some fancy corvette (I forget the kind) and Brock goes, "Wow, that's a cool car (and shakes his hand)....but Magnum P.I. drove a 380. Where's your 380?" The dude get pissed and think Brock is making fun of his car, and proceeds to tell of his inner working and speed and crap. The random tall black guy, leans over and call the guy out saying his Ferrari could fuck this kids car up. They talk about having an actual race that night.

Also, later while this is happening we look over at Chris, and someone says I think Chris is starting shit with that girl, a big girl sitting down at a table in the back. Someone else shrugs it off, but right then we see the girl get up and almost lunge at girl. her chair falls, her table gets up the bouncer comes over. we are being asked to leave. but on the way out we again encounter the Ferrari-Corvette race off, who are yelling at each other and ultimately get kicked out too, and are scheduling their race-off as we leave. So they schedule a race, for that night. And when we were leaving they were still yelling about doing it in the parking lot. They were supposed to meet at some Whitey's but I took everyone home. (P.S. thanks to B-mac for showing up and taking someone home. It saved me.) I then drop everyone off and go home.

it was a long, but adventurous night to say the least.

Brock on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 1:35 PM

Thanks for the recap Marc, I forgot some of that shit. I think this sets the bar high for other DD's.... recording the events of last night since you're likely the only one who remembers them in a coherent manner.

stew on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 3:12 PM

Wow Marc, I really wasn't aware of all the scenarios going on around the bar. You forgot to mention the massive amount of cash that random black guy was waving in the face of Detroit Tigers hat guy while they were arguing about racing.

Bigworm on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 3:39 PM

Wow...sounds like a fun time.

Bigworm on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 3:40 PM

Honestly, how did you guys not piss your pants when Brock called the guy Magnum P.I.?

Bigworm on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 3:41 PM

And for the record, the Jager Machine has been moved from the basement to the dining room and is ready for transit!

Jerome on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 9:39 PM

Damn ... I went all Kobayashi at dinner tonight ... 30 oz. burger earned a free dessert though

I think I better start running again.

Always Sunny Marathon on FX right now...

Phil on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:54 PM

I mean, if you are stuck at home watching the show is something to do. I'm totally posting this from some awesome party with lots of bitches. But those hoes are off in another room fighting over who gets to KNOCK THE BOOTS!

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 1:26 AM

I am so excited I can't sleep.

Brock on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 1:44 AM

So I'll be making early GBITT tomorrow... wedding isn't until 8, so I have a couple of hours to go Beyond Thunderdome with Wes. Any requests on me bringing anything... I can't let the Sci down... I told you I'd make some of it... and I promise a late night appearance (after midnight, so I won't see Wes then).

Suggested donations for party costs?

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 1:55 AM

Brock - I'll make it till midnight this year. What time do you plan on getting there?

Brock on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:06 AM

I heard early attendees were arriving at 4, so I'll shoot for that... I'd come over earlier if possible. I plan to go straight to the wedding from there.

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:09 AM

Oh that is fantastic.....spill some booze on your shirt. Does Michelle talk to Katie anymore? If not, cut out early on and come get beyond Thunderdome!

Brock on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:10 AM

Michelle is the maid of honor, so we're kind of committed to the whole evening.

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:11 AM

Wrong again....Michelle is committed to the whole evening. You can come party with us.

Riiiiiiiiigggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhttttttttt.....................

Brock on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:11 AM

I may need to wear some kind of biohazard or HazMat outfit during the warm-up hours.

Brock on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:13 AM

Its not like I have a limo driving me around to all these places all night.... wait.

Brilliant idea!

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:13 AM

Yeah that is probably a good idea..........actually Brock you should bring some other bridesmaids back with you....so we can watch the single guys in action.

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:14 AM

And Jay might be inspired to sing a song to one of them.

Brock on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:15 AM

I'll see what I can scrounge up. Until then, they'll have to practice on completely trashed sorority chicks who randomly show up with dudes named Daryl.

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:19 AM

Ah Darryl......we need to round up ole Fort Worth.

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:20 AM

Nothing too classy though amigo......this is Natty Sci.

Phil on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:22 AM

Shit, I only have like 16 hours to break up a wedding.

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:31 AM

Philco - even God thought it was a bad idea for you to hook up with Katie. I know this because of the worse cock block ever night when Patrick showed up.

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:32 AM

I did miss that guy though because he kept a stocked fridge at their apartment.

Brock on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:43 AM

And 4 loaded rifles in his trunk.

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:55 AM

Exactly.

joe on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 9:27 AM

I've been awake since 7 this morning. It feels like Christmas when I was a little kid. At least you all are somewhere else. I'm basically sleeping under the Christmas tree. Since I was awake I hit up 7:30 church with my dad. I figured we could use some divine intervention for the day/night/morning. I talked to some neighbors yesterday while Jay, Marc and I were setting up for New Years and they are all cool. Greg and Lisa are coming, we invited Larry and Suzanne Martinez and she said she was coming without the invite, next door not Nancy said he enjoys life in the neighborhood and might grab some food or catch some of the band "40 years ago I would have been right there with you", old lady behind me with the white fence said we are no trouble, "last year you all weren't bad at all" and some old guy with her said he won't call the cops if he is invited so random old dude might show up. Kate the moth eater is making an appearance and trying to convince friends to come and stay instead of hitting bars. Laura's friend Leah who I went to school with from first through eighth grade and I drunkenly invited is coming and bringing at least 6 friends. I'm giddy as a little school girl. This is all coming together nicely. But I figured I'd tell people 4:00 as a good start time since that is when the 2nd round of NFL football games start. Feel free to show up earlier or later.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 10:54 AM

I don't want to end up inverted

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:10 AM

There it is. No better way to start off a new year's than with a joke about something from the last.

joe on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:12 AM

we set the lighting up this year so we can actually see douglas in his video for the internet

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:13 AM

120 shrimp for $3.99? Sounds like some really good shrimp there. I think it would have been a better deal for us to buy 450 of those shrimp to eat than to try and stuff ourselves at Red Lobster's all you can eat shrimp.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:14 AM

Why don't we just set up a spotlight in the front yard next year?

joe on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:14 AM

I was at Kroger and it was a lb bag for 3.99 in the add. The had it listed at 5.99 so I grabbed two and they gave me the second one free for catching there error and the first one for 3.99. I'm awesome

joe on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:15 AM

I said last night that I am doing that

joe on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:17 AM

Greg and Lisa's son Michael might be the opening act on stage 1 before we have to kick him out of the party.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:19 AM

Seriously, though, we can't rest on our past achievements. We have to start planning for the debauchery of the 8th annual New Year's party. Some subtle changes were made this year, but I think we can do better next year. I just hope to fuck I'm not working again.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:19 AM

joe on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:19 AM

he plays guitar

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:21 AM

So when's the opening act starting?

joe on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 11:23 AM

If he wants queso I am going to make him earn it

Bigworm on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at 2:41 PM
