I (Phil) will be running this league so we can all rest assured that I will finish in last place as I make knee jerk free agent pickups based on the one baseball game I watch a week. One note, just to clear something up from last year: the use of "math" will be allowed this year and is not considered cheating. That being said, Jerome and I spent some time trying to level the playing field so we don't end up with a situation like last year where Joe and I both had seemingly 15 relief pitchers on our team. So look at the stats and make sure to offer up suggests to make them better.

The solution to last years' controversy is solved by not doing the lame-ass rotisserie scoring. Head-to-head matchups are always the best way to go.

Right now we are looking at head-to-head match ups. I liked the way hockey went until the Backstrom-Harding incident.

They were talking about that this morning on a Lexington radio show. At first they were talking about Pitino. Apparently he said he made a mistake when he left kentucky, because he was treated well there. He feels the same way at louisville, and would never make that mistake again...

Brock on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 3:26 PM

Phil on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 3:53 PM

You set your draft order then sometime on Saturday there is an auto draft based on how you ranked your players (or if you kept the yahoo default settings). And then there is a mad dash to pick up the best free agent players. I have them all set to the waiver rules though, so it should be at least a little fair.

adrian on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 7:24 AM

What happened Jay?

Jay on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 8:03 AM

I'm not even sure where to begin. There was this drunk woman talking about how if you look like justin timberlake, you're not a country singer. Then she and this drunk dude started going back and forth. Then these girls sitting next to us started dancing in their chairs and then got on the floor and danced. One of the left and the other one kept doing interpretive dancing throughout the rest of the evening. The guys before us played 4 really long songs, and on the last one, he said "We're going to play a short one next" that went on for like 7-8 minutes. During our set the one girl kept dancing. And then things got wierd...

Bigworm on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 9:28 AM

I will give Marc credit - he usually does do a good job of writing up the stories he's been involved in. He had a really good write up on one two months ago I believe.

Damn all you fuckers really are going to be disappointed. It was mildly funny, but not to this kinda build up. Jay even gave you an awesome clue when he said things got "Krazy" . . . as in Crazy with a K. So Crazy with a K shows up and shes us and is trying to talk an flirt with me. She finally shes Jay, out of her Krazy, drunken/stupid haze and asks us, "What are you all doing here?" Rather than tell her we play most Wednesday nights, so she might want to come back. I simply said, "We like to try out a new place every once in a while." Jay smiled, and I was happy with my answer. Oh yeah, and get this, she even knew crazy interpretive dance girl who was creepily dancing by herself while not even having the dedication to be hot. She even knew the first crazy lady of the night. Yeah, three crazies ladies, sorry, I mean Krazy ladies. Who would have known.

Phil on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 6:43 PM

Ok, I need a vote:

Head-to-Head vs Rotisserie on the scoring? For now I'm leaving it at Rotisserie unless I can get a compeling reason to go otherwise. The only thing head-to-head brings to the table is instant satisfaction and a more micro season feel to everything. But the big problem is that it really makes the whole starting pitcher thing a bitch. I'm not sure if it is even practical to do. Plus you have one week where your god damn goalie gets sat down against the LA Kings and you lose the whole thing which is gay.

Plus we don't have an even number of managers.

So I'll set the Draft Status to ready tomorrow which means we'll have our draft done automatically sometime this weekend.

Brock on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 10:40 AM

I will reiterate my hatred for Rotisserie scoring on the grounds that by the end of the season, half the stats are so far out of reach for most teams that its a waste to even look.

Even though the same issue arises in head-to-head with teams getting so far behind in games, at least there is the bragging right of beating someone that week versus... oh, I moved up one spot in the walks category.

Phil on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 10:46 AM

It's the pitching thing though. In head-to-head on a week-by-week basis there is a decent chance that with only 5 pitchers you might only have one guy going vs someone with 4. Do you drop all your pitchers and pick up new ones each week based on who is available?

I just don't see it being that viable to do it with baseball.

Brock on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 10:48 AM

If you balance your roster with middle relievers and closers, you should get at least one pitcher everyday.

Phil on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 10:50 AM

I'm not a wise baseball man, but it seems we'd have a league where starting pitchers are useless and middle relievers and closers are kings.

Brock on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 10:52 AM

Nope, starters will earn you the bulk of your stats: IP, K's, outs, but they don't play as often. The other guys may play every other day, but 1 K with .2 IP per outing, it isn't going to make that much of a difference.

Phil on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 11:31 AM

Baseball draft status has been set to ready. Regardless of the pros and cons of Rotisserie vs Head-to-Head we have to go with rotisserie due to the odd number of teams. And all the "baseball people" that I know think rotisserie is the better way to go in terms of pitching stats.

Now I better go make sure I don't draft Ryan Howard.

adrian on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 11:38 AM

Phil on Monday, April 02, 2007 at 9:30 AM

Jay on Monday, April 02, 2007 at 9:34 AM

It was some drunk dude at michelle's party. He kept telling us to play Rocky Raccoon. Then he walked away. Five minutes later he came back and continued.

Phil on Monday, April 02, 2007 at 9:36 AM

Sounds a lot like something my mom or aunt would do. Are you sure that it wasn't a 50 year old woman, and not a dude?

Fairly certain. Although I was pretty drunk.

Brock on Monday, April 02, 2007 at 12:17 PM

So are you guys starting up a rec softball or baseball team?

adrian on Monday, April 02, 2007 at 12:26 PM

No, I just decided I wanted to throw baseball and went out and bought a glove and ball. I figure 12 years is enough lay off for me from throwing a ball.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, April 02, 2007 at 1:23 PM

Sadly, we couldn't find enough people who wanted to play and would show up on a consistent basis. Joe and Cuban got almost enough to field a team, and with the residents I got together, we had plenty. Our schedule was to unpredictable to say we could get a full team every game. Fuckers.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, April 02, 2007 at 1:25 PM

So, Adrian, did you just go out like a lonely little kid a throw the ball against a wall? Or did you find somebody to play catch with?

Adrian was the catcher.

Florida's athletic department has the deepest pockets ever.

Thad Matta is officially an idiot... if he would have just rested Oden like 2 minutes in the second half, maybe they would have had a shot... he might be able to recruit, but that has horrible coaching.

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 03, 2007 at 10:38 AM

I hate how they bring in 100 samples for me to analyze, and they don't realize that I have to run 2 or 3 separate analyses, maybe 5 or 6, depending on the sample, on each sample. Then I have to do reports. That doesn't even take into consideration the fact that a lot of samples have to be reanalyzed because of dilutions or whatever. Then there is the paperwork that has to be finished.

yeah, that dolphin video was back in high school on a school trip to sea world, great time, i think that's the moment i became bi-beastial.

douglas on Tuesday, April 03, 2007 at 7:56 PM

here's what i heard from my dad today, one of his friends is buddies with mike casey, former all american at UK in the sixties:

former all american mike casey apparently talked to tubby on the plane when he was headed for MN, apparently MB put pressure on OTS to get rid of Hobbs and hire pelphrey to train him to be the next coach. OTS obviously didn't agree, wanted to keep hobbs, apparently he has cancer, and when it became apparent tubby wasn't going to back down, MB contacted BD, who agreed to come to UK and also bring back Pelphrey as his assistant. BD and pelphrey will be the next coaches. pelphrey just turned down the head coaching job at S. Florida, so this definitely has legs. i'm guessing thur/fri we'll know for sure, but that's what i'm banking on. you heard it here first

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 03, 2007 at 8:40 PM

Barry on Friday, April 06, 2007 at 4:01 PM

i was throwing in the popular idea that if Tubby were white there wouldn't have been as much talk about getting rid of him

Barry on Friday, April 06, 2007 at 4:07 PM

i'll freely admit that I think that's overstated. I'm certain that there is a contingent of UK fans that didn't want a black coach (probably a contingent at most southern universities or universities altogether), though I cannot say how large a group that was and how much say they have in who coaches. Most UK fans I know felt that Tubby, while a good coach and person, did not meet the UK standard of excellence (whether that standard is reasonable or not is another issue). And Tubby did coach for what 8 years and left on his own. So I find that view a little unsupported.

adrian on Friday, April 06, 2007 at 4:12 PM

Um, who is the new coach? All sport sites are blocked from my computer so i can't look up anything.

Bigworm on Friday, April 06, 2007 at 4:52 PM

Yeah me too, only problem is that the matchups suck!

Phil on Friday, April 06, 2007 at 4:54 PM

The rumors of Beasley going to Pitino are based on Beasely saying if it weren't for Huggins at KSU, he'd go to Louisville when he was being recruited. I don't think there is anything else to that rumor.

KSU has announced they won't release Beasley from his LOI which apparently means that he'd have to sit out a year. If he does transfers the rumor is that he likes USC, FSU and NC State, but it looks more and like he'd go to Europe - unless Dalonte Hill gets hired as the coach at KSU
http://www.aolsportsblog.com/2007/0...sleys-decision/

Phil on Friday, April 06, 2007 at 5:29 PM

KSU has hired their assistant coach and will probably promote Hill in hopes of keeping their recruiting class in place:

Brent on Friday, April 06, 2007 at 5:41 PM

Funny, I viewed the giddiness as a turn off. Personally, I would rather see a coach's first impression with a new program that strives for excellence with a little more solemnity and intent than a smiling country boy who just ran out to discover Santa brought him a brand new red radio flyer wagon. This is the University of Kentucky, holds some poise when you accept the job and act like you deserve the position rather than accepting a gift.

In other news, this is what happens when craigslist goes bad, "In the ad, it said come and take what you want. Everything is free," she said. "Please help yourself to anything on the property."

Burket's if you guys get bored, you and Joe and to help Alan and myself move some drywall down into my basement today?

I have 90 sheets (4'x8') to move down there, with 20 2x4's and some other things. I am trying to find some drywall hooks/holders so we can save our backs walking that shit down the basement stairs. This is why I really wanted a walkout basement for.

Phil on Saturday, April 07, 2007 at 1:48 PM

Sorry, didn't mean to insult you Brent, by calling you a UofL fan.

adrian on Saturday, April 07, 2007 at 4:32 PM

Phil is it possible to have two sets of headers in the gridview control. Example I have one dataset with all the records and binding it to the grid. So initially i want 7 columns with with seven column headers. The display some data. Then display another seven column headers with different headings then the first header then display some data all in one grid control?

Brent on Saturday, April 07, 2007 at 5:06 PM

Im a UK fan. There was never a rivalry for UK/UL football, so growing up I didnt have a chance to establish a deep seeded hatred for UofL football, plus I think it might have something to do with not being able to see their faces and maybe the fact that football players aren't a bunch of whiney bitches like basketball players(and I graduated from UofL). When it comes down to UofL versus UK football, I cheer for UK, otherwise I want UofL to beat every team. When it comes to UofL basketball, I could care less, I just want to see a good basketball game, the outcome wins/losses is meaningless to me.

90 sheets of drywall with only 20 2 x4's, something doesn't add up...are you finishing it yourself...let me know if you need any tips!

Brock on Saturday, April 07, 2007 at 5:07 PM

He's probably using a lot of existing framing.

Phil on Saturday, April 07, 2007 at 10:09 PM

Adrian, the built in data grid won't do that. You're options are to either look for a 3rd party grid component or maybe write one yourself. You might be able to use a Repeater control to get that effect. I do most everything via a repeater so I have full control of the content anyways.

Which reminds me, I think this site could use a bit of a cosmetic update...

adrian on Saturday, April 07, 2007 at 10:29 PM

Hum, so you can't hide the header, then inspect each row via the onrow event thing, then just inspect a certain field to decide where i want to add the header and just add the row manually?

Bigworm on Sunday, April 08, 2007 at 10:47 AM

Brent, I have about 98% of the framing complete. I am guessing there will be about another 1200 square feet finished in the basement when it is all said and done. I just have to rip down a portion of a sofit (sp?) and replace it using 2x4s (the 2x2s weren't good for much actually) and that should take the bend out of that section. I have to add another sofit to combine two areas (kind of like a trey ceiling) and I have to figure out how to finish the area between the wall and the stairs...that is going to be kind of tricky because of how they finished the portion of it when the house was built.

I also have the network wires and phone wires already ran in the basement, some electrical wiring is completed, but I have 2 more "zones" to wire up for that. I was going to add a 1/2 bathroom down there, but that is going to cost about $3K and honestly, I'd rather put that money into savings now, especially since Abby is due in August. From a re-sell standpoint the 1/2 bath would work wonders, but I think it will be okay. Worse comes to worse, when we sell the house, I'll knock some money off the listing price if it is going to be a deal breaker and let them use that money to build them a bathroom if they want.

Bigworm on Sunday, April 08, 2007 at 10:49 AM

Brent or anyone else- how hard is it to mud drywall and finish it to where you can paint. I might contract this out, because I don't want to fuck it up. This is critical for the appearance of your walls, as you know.

joe on Sunday, April 08, 2007 at 12:14 PM

I've always heard that mudding and sanding drywall is a pain in the ass and the best thing to do is hire out some cheap foreigners. I'm not joking, a guy I worked with at Chase did his basement and had these 4 mexicans knock it out in no time at all and did a sweet job of it.

Brock on Sunday, April 08, 2007 at 12:18 PM

Joe is right, Michelle and I had to mud and sand her sister's new house and I vow to never do that again. When my dad redid the family room, he had someone come in and mud and sand... he said it was worth every penny. The reason is because these people usually have the specialized tools that make it a helluva lot easier and are usually not worth investing in as a do-it-yourselfer.

Brent on Sunday, April 08, 2007 at 12:52 PM

The only tools they have is the fucking experience. I'm in resounding agreement with everyone else: hire it out. When I gutted my bathroom, I did all the work, plumbing, electrical, tiling, drywall, duct, you name it. I think I mudded, sanded, mudded, sanded, mudded and sanded till I was blue in the face and when I thought I had a perfectly smooth transition-I painted. Come look at my bathroom, you can see a definitive crease where the sheets bevel, blows my mind, and that tiny bathroom took me days, countless hours, and billions of tiny beads of sweat, for what? Well, my first job was to prove to myself that I can do it, just in case an apocalypse or for some reason my skills as a health care professional are no longer of any use, well, I did and I'll never do it again. Besides, Im losing money by not paying someone to do it, I'll pay them and then go work and I'll be better off, screw the entitlement. Anyway, Im talking on a tangent...what I wanted to say, when I had a guy mud and sand my kitchen, he finished it in three days and probably spent less than two hours on the job with nary a dust particle leaving the kitchen all while I would go out for a run. No sand, no mess, no problem...here's your money buddy.

Bigworm on Sunday, April 08, 2007 at 5:46 PM

Yeah, that is pretty much what I have heard from others, I think my father-in-law wants to do it ourselves, I am guessing just to prove that he can and to try and save us money. I am thinking, fuck that, let's just contract it out.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, April 08, 2007 at 6:47 PM

Forde is a fucking ass...

And they can speculate on whether a freshman meltdown in the final seconds of Texas A&M's NCAA Tournament second-round game against Louisville might be the only thing separating Gillispie from being unhirable. If Edgar Sosa doesn't blow up and the Cardinals beat the Aggies, can you hire a guy whose veteran team just was upset by Rick Pitino in Rupp Arena?

That dirty mexican played the game of his life only to miss a couple free throws at the end. With his FT%, he was lucky to get that many down. And he's insulting the hillbillies at UK by taking a guy who hasn't won anything big yet. What a prick.

So when is Thunder over Louisville and are we doing anything for it? I don't mean go downtown. We did that once. We parked at UofL Med School. Everyone was drunk. The Burkets were trading shots in the arm, and it took two hours to get out of the parking lot. But one year we went over to Brock's parents, had a cookout, and watched stealth bombers fly over his house.

I know we are doing Derby this year. And of course Blow Up St Matthews.

So when is Thunder?

Thunder is April 21st! wooo hooo!

Marc on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 2:23 PM

Jay, you asked me that on the phone Friday night. And I said sure why not. I know I get apprehensive about playing at someone else's house when I don't know everybody. Because I don't want to feel like I'm forcing the music on people. But with OUR friends....FUCK EM! They'll have to listen to us. and they'll make stupid requests (Free Bird, Turn the Page, etc)

Wes, I know you'd like grindhouse. Marc, I know I told Chris to tell you Friday, but it was pretty chaotic, so I thought I would bring it up where I know I would get a response.

Marc on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 3:07 PM

Well Free Bird is generally a stupid request since most people yell it out, but don't want to really hear the whole 30 minutes of it. Besides Jay generally plays a minute of it to appease the idiots who shout it out. (Just kidding Douglas)

BIG JAY: "WHAT B-MAC?!"

I was just doing yard work and I noticed my yard is destroyed from Natty Sci Armaggadeon. Does Natty Sci Armaggadeon count as a Natty Sci holiday or just a legendary event? Is Natty Sci Armaggadeon an inevitable event or are we simply indestructable? Perhaps it was because everyone was out, B-mac was trying to get laid, I wasn't drinking and a combination of events that simply caused the skies to collapse. I still can't comprehend the events of that evening.

Jay on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 6:32 PM

I don't think any of us can comprehend it. Either god tried to kill us and missed, or was sending us a warning. Which we obviously haven't gotten.

There are only a few Sci holidays...Blow up Saint Matthews, GBITT, and Marc's birthday where a good time is sure to ensue. The complete randomness of the night and the fact that everyone was there, mostly drunk, and a natural disaster followed just makes for an incredible story that most wouldn't believe.

Watching the Red's pregame and it is interesting because this guy Josh Hamilton is getting his first major league start. He is a former #1 draft pick and hasn't played in a couple of years. The announcers are talking about how everyone wants to see him suceced because of his past and how much of a great story it would be. He was banned from baseball for a cocaine and heroin addiction. Just the kind of guy that deserves a major league contract. Just think how much crack you can buy with the league minimum $375,000?

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 9:34 PM

My kind of team charlie, my kind of team

Phil on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 10:05 PM

It's odd that no one is recruiting Pettigrew. I think Louisville football told him he could walk on if he wanted to. There has to be something more with this kid. He said he'd sign with Louisville, Kentucky or Indiana if any of them recruited him 9 or 10 months ago and no one went after him. He's going to run away with Mr. Basketball (if he didn't win already - I don't really keep up with this stuff).

Very strange. I think he'll be a good ball player and a great start for BCG to sign him.

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 10:07 PM

It was announced today that he did win Mr. Basketball. The thing I don't understand is why nobody didn't sign him after he went to Las Vegas and dropped 72 points in two games against top talent. The kid is an absolute scorer and probably could have started for UK last year....sad but true.

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 10:08 PM

Oh and I don't think these two like each other very much. Professional fight where they just trade blows.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZZYcbfKdy8

Phil on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 10:12 PM

I think his major problem is he's, what, 6'5", and can't handle the basketball or shoot from distance. He certainly doesn't fit into many offenses, that's for sure, which could explain why he hasn't been offered by anyone else. I could see him doing well playing for WKU or some other conference where you can play PF at that size.

I was hoping he'd come to Louisville and play football and walk on at basketball ala Joshua Tinch. But signing a local star is a definitely a good PR move for a new coach in Kentucky...

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 11:01 PM

He is a tweener no doubt. People say that he can't shoot the 3 or handle the rock, however, he has improved his ball handling this year, is quicker than the typical 3 and stronger than the 2 so he won't be out muscled that is for sure. He did beat Ty Proffit in a 3 point shootout at the Ohio vs. KY allstar game and scored some 26 points and grabbed close to 10 rebounds in that game that has many D1 level HS kids. I think Pettigrew shot something like 40% from 3 point land this year.

Jay on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 8:56 AM

On the radio this morning, they were talking about some list that came out with the greatest sports movies of all time. Number 1 was Rock, number 2 was Karate Kid, and number 3 was Happy Gilmore. The two guys in the studio were yelling that Happy Gilmore didn't deserve to be on there, because although it is funny, it is not a great sports movie. They also brought up how the Natural, Bryan's song, and Major League should have been on there. The main guy said that a sports movie was was the only acceptable time for a guy to cry. This made me think of a conversation between Phil and Marc, about which was a better movie, The Replacements or Major League. Thoughts on any of this?

And no, there was no mention of Con Air.

Bigworm on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 9:26 AM

Major League

Phil on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 9:48 AM

Best sports movies:
1) The Natural
2) Hoosiers
3) Field of Dreams
4) Caddyshack
5) Bull Durham
6) Slap Shot
7) Rocky
8) White Men Can''t Jump
9) Rudy
10) Friday Night Lights
11) Major League
12) Breaking Away
13) North Dallas Forty
14) Hoop Dreams
15) Chariots of Fire

Best movies that have sports in them, but aren't sports movies
1) On The Waterfront
2) Finding Forrester
3) Jerry Maguire
4) The Hurricane
5) Ace Ventura
6) The Naked Gun
...
99999) Summer Catch

Movies that aren't about traditional sports (Football, basketball, soccer, boxing, etc)

1) Gladiator
2) The Hustler
3) Rounders
4) The Color of Money
5) Searching for Bobby Fischer`

adrian on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 10:06 AM

Top 5:

1. Natural
2. Hoosiers
3. Field Of Dreams
4. Bull Durham
5. Eight Men Out

Jay on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 10:20 AM

I'm glad this got a discussion going. I need to watch the natural, bryan's song, and field of dreams. I've never seen the first two, and it has been a long time since I saw field of dreams. Phil, I would actually put karate kid in my top list. I like it for its kitsch value, but I also thing it is a good movie. I don't really feel qualified to make a list, because a lot of the great movies I have either never seen, or not seen in a long time. But if I had to, based on what I can remember, I would say:
1) Karate Kid
2) Varsity Blues
3) Hoosiers
4) Major League
5) White Men Can't Jump

Wrecking Crew on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 10:56 AM

I recently had a similar conversation with joe. Some link of Page 2 was talking about the best baseball movies of all time, and was doing a tournament style championship. It pissed me off because it had movies like For Love of the Game, Little Big league, Rookie of the year , and Angels in the Outfield, which deserve no spot in the list. Movies like Eight MEn out and the Rookie get beat out by The sandlot. While it is a good movie both of the previous were much better. Also deserving an honorable mention is Pride of the Yankees

Anyway my top 5
1) Bull Durham
2) Rocky
3) Hoosiers
4) Rudy
5) Major League

Bigworm on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 11:23 AM

Hmmmmm, this is a touch decision on where to rank "best sports movies" because what do you base your criteria on? Best movies used to motivate/inspire, capturing the sport in its true form, likeable characters, etc..?

With that being said, my top 5 shapes out to be:
1) The Natural
2) Bull Durham
3) Major League
4) Hoosiers
5) Best of The Best

Church - that was in my top 10, not really.

Pettigrew update, apparently it was a rumor that he was offered by UK, however, he is going to play with the team like a tryout so to speak, like Knowles did for UofL.

Actually, if anyone has seen the movie "61," that is a good flick, and I think one of the only movies involving Mickey Mantle.... that drunken sexaholic.

Cuban on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:14 PM

The Babe is not that great of a movie, it falls along the lines of Cobb and the Jackie Robinson story. But I agree 61 must be an honorable mention

Rocky 5 has to be number 1

Cuban on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:21 PM

Bmac's top 5
1) For the Love of the Game
2) Wildcats
3) The Cutting Edge
4) The Scout
5) Angels in the Outfield

jen on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:23 PM

I like Rocky 4 the best. Best soundtrack ever.

Phil on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:33 PM

Btw, "Goal!" is actually a pretty decent sports movie along the lines of Rudy or Mystery, Alaska. It does, unfortunately, feature soccer. I forgot to add "Green Street Holligans" to my list of movies that feature sports, but aren't sports movies.

So, no one has no problem with listing Gladiator as a sports movie?

Phil on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:36 PM

My computer caught on fire this morning.

So far, it's been a long day.

Cuban on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:40 PM

Gladiator isn't really a sports movie. I see it more as an action movie. There is no true form of martial art or sport. At least with Karate Kid and Best of the Best, there is a tournament that goes with the movie.

I see Gladiator more along the lines of Braveheart.

Jay on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:40 PM

If we are going to start talking about honorable mentions, I think we have to say something about The Little Giants. I mean, if it wasn't for that movie, we would not have the Annexation of Puerto Rico.

Cuban on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:43 PM

Bigworm on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:47 PM

Cuban on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:49 PM

my top 5

1) Bull Durham
2) The Natural
3) Major League
4) the Sandlot
5) Caddyshack

Marc on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:58 PM

My Top 5: (non-traditional)
Karate Kid
Rad
Gleaming the Cube
Airbourne
Baseketball

Brock on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 2:09 PM

Does "Tron" count as a non-traditional sports movie? All those cool sci-fi games are pretty cool. Maybe its the originator of sci-fi non-traditional sports movies like the "Running Man."

Phil on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 2:27 PM

You replace the swords with boxing gloves or a basketball and Gladiator has all the makings of a traditional sports movie. The same story arch and everything. That's my vote: sports movie.

Cuban on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 2:45 PM

True Phil, but that is like saying give Fred Savage a basketball or boxing gloves and The Wizard is a sports movie. Neither are sports movies. My vote: Action Film

Cuban on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 2:46 PM

I had to say Fred Savage b/c I can't remember the actor who actually was the "wizard"

Does anyone else find it kinda disturbing how much support the Duke lacrosse team is getting? Yeah, I understand they were wrongly accused of some serious allegations, but they're not exactly morally upstanding young gentlemen. I know, I don't have much room to talk, but they still put themselves in the situation to begin with. So, I wouldn't exactly call them innocent.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 3:50 PM

If they were in the NFL and had done this, they would probably be suspended for quite a while.

Bigworm on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 4:09 PM

Chris - I agree with you amigo. Besides, this has been a long time coming, because they do have a bad rap in that area. Other than that, I would have to say something did happen because those kids all left Duke. I wouldn't leave unless I was ashamed of something I did...but that is just me.

South Park was great. I like the Thursday day game followed by thirsty thursday. In response to wes' statement, "I wouldn't leave unless I was ashamed of something I did...but that is just me." I can't recall anybody ever leaving the Bellarmine baseball team because they were ashamed, excluding the large amount of losses. In tribute to ed oneil, Big'uns was an answer in the velocity crossword puzzle this week. And on the subject of morally upstanding young gentlemen, if we go to Cincy, lets heckle crackhead Josh Hamilton. Is Tin Cup a chick flick?

I and Eric tied for 1st with 15 each
Mike came in 2nd with 10.
Ryan came in 3rd with 8 and an onion ring
Kassandra came in 4th with 8
and Lee is a pussy for eating 4.

Marc on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:22 PM

Marc on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:26 PM

joe on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:28 PM

She has an apartment. Even the intern has her own place.

Phil on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:30 PM

Does anyone know how much money b-mac has saved up? My guess: $50k.

Marc on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:31 PM

You mean for not having his own place? Or from having to buy less car wax, you know because he drives a midnight blue Miata

joe on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:32 PM

oooo burn

joe on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:33 PM

But seriously, I will calll you later

Phil on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:34 PM

I figure B-Mac's expenses for the month look like this:

Gas for cruising in the Miata - $50
New pants to replace pants with a worn out front - $100
Food at lunch - $100 (does his mom pack a lunch? I bet she does.)
Going out on the weekends - $100.

And that's it.

I estimate, based on his occupation, that he brings in roughly $2000 after taxes. So he probably spends roughly $500 on things like new pants and food a month, leaving him with a solid $1500 a month. He's been doing this for how long? Maybe three years? That's about $54,000.

jen on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:36 PM

sorry brock. I thought I posted something about it being my birthday like a week ago. you were just supposed to assume there was going to be booze involved. I should have done an evite so you get 25 emails about it :)

Brock on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:37 PM

Wait... didn't he pass that test, so he's a higher level calculator-puncher now... he's gotta be making more that $24K a year. Hell, I almost made that much as a student.

Brock on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:38 PM

Yes. I do like the Evite... because I can't remember what day it is anyway unless I ask Google, so emails reminding me I'm supposed to be drinking in Louisville on a future weekend are useful.

jen on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:39 PM

yeah, but to bring home 2k/month you'd have to make about 32k/year because of taxes

Brock on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:39 PM

DAMN YOU TAXMAN!

Phil on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:40 PM

I figure if you were bringing in $40k a year that would be around $2000 a month - I'm probably wrong on the estimates there. And I'm just guess what B-Mac would be making as an accountant. I know they can make quite a bit more money that that, but, I.i.i.i.i.i don't know guys, that seems a bit right for B-Mac.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:42 PM

When the fuck did the MCAT get moved to a weekday? Is it one of those computerized tests you can take within a certain time period? Not like anyone knows or cares, I'm just wondering.

Phil on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:44 PM

I like that Chris can post about the MCAT's scheduling and still drop and f-bumb.

His f-bomb ratio is like Jerry Rice's touchdown record - simply unobtainable.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 5:44 PM

jen on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 6:01 PM

I think if you were a millionaire you could hook that up, too. 'cause chicks dig dudes with money.

Phil on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 6:01 PM

I think you'd get a discount because with twins you are far less likely that they'd start making out or something like that. And honestly I'd be a little grossed out watching sisters kiss, unlike Lynnie and Marc.

Brock on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 6:04 PM

I am sure Bmac makes atleast $50K a year. I don't think they give you any extra money when you pass the CPA exam, but if you do not pass it, you cannot be promoted above a certain level (you have to be a CPA to make manager at E&Y).

And if I had to do it all over again, I'd be an alcoholic.

I have tuk-tuk, 100 baht, me good, me good." They would just look at you wide eyed and stunned, searching for words to say as we just erupted with laughter.

Bigworm on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 2:48 PM

Chris - Is Joanna off for that week after derby as well? Abby is off, and I am thinking about taking either that week or some days off during that week. How many people would go to Thirsty Thursday at the BATS game. Abby says she can get tickets and I think they have them right behind homeplate, I just am not sure how many she can get right there.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 4:09 PM

Joanna is not off, but she is planning on taking at least one day. I'm still trying to figure out which game I want to go to, Wed Cards, Thur - Cubs, Thur- reds, or Fri- White Sox. Joe wants to do the All day Thurs baseball starting in Cinncy then coming back for the BAts. I would rather go to a different city to see a game, but that would likely require an overnight stay.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 4:20 PM

Detroit is at home against the Mariners that mid week as well...Only a 5 hr 23 min drive according to yahoo. Pittsburg vs Atlanta a 5 hr 50 min jaunt. joe on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 9:02 PM

Just umped a game and had a double forefeit in the second. Free 40 bucks on the forfeit. Awesome. First game I was behind the plate and had a fan club of Barrett middle school girls on one side and on the other side TJ parents harrassing me. The parents were heckling my strike zone because their team sucked. I was ringing up kids watching the 3rd strike so they kept yelling its 2 strikes you have to swing at everything because he will call it. I told the catcher watch this. Pitch hit the glove I counted to two, long, slow drawn out punch out, turned to the parents winked and smiled. They went nuts. Best part was it actually was a strike. Catcher turned and yelled, mom shutup it was a strike. Coach walks by doesn't speak much english, said something about the pitchers curveball and points and goes "he's mine. You like curveball?" I smile give him a thumbs up and said, "curveball, el cono". he looks at me and goes " the shit?" "Si, el cono!" He laughed for 3 innings after that. Umpiring is fun.

I keep wanting to like "Thank God You're Here." They have lots of good improv people on there, but they keep pushing Dave Foley as some type of "hardass, cynical judge" like his that simon guy from american idol. But he's more like Drew Carey from Whose Line. Why can't the show just be about the comedy and not some stupid contest?

I don't give the show more than 6 more episodes. If they did it like Whose Line and drop the "Dave Foley the asshole judge will slam these comedians in something difficult to do" then I think it could go a solid 2 years.

Color: Silver, with very few minor scratches
Engine: V6 (better gas mileage) rated at 200 hp
Transmission: automatic
Mileage: 58,000 (less than 10K per year)
6 disc in-dash CD changer w/ Mach Sound System
Dark Gray Cloth Interior
A/C works well
Oil changes every 3000-3500 miles and I had the power steering fluid changed around 50K miles or so.
Premium Package - cruise, power windows/locks, keyless entry, power driver seat, traction control, ABS brakes, Alloy Wheels

1 wreck last year - cosmetic damage only and was fixed.

Wrecking Crew on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 4:47 PM

That is the plan as of now...as long as the weather holds out and I get my flat fixed by then. This is a new bike too that should be able to hold my weight and won't break every time I ride.

That was rather amusing, but really if you want a true taste of what a New York fan in Boston would feel, wear that shit to a Red Sox game. The Boston Marathon is more of an international evnt, so there should be a broader spectrum of fans. A Red Sox game will be your hardcore fans who will give it to you like nothing else. SOme BoSox fans actually did that last year in New York when I was there...it was quite funny how some drunk New Yorkers react to the Red Sox.

Option 1) Put the fields you need as hidden input items. That should make them accessible I'd think
Option 2) Retrieve that row again on PostBack. An extra database call but it should be cheap because I'd assume you are pulling it via a primary key
Option 3) Store the whole damn datatable in viewstate and access it that way.

Bigworm on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:40 PM

Philco - when did O'shea's get a place on Main Street? I won tickets from Wave 3 on Belski's Bluff for 4 tickets to Louisville Science Center with food and drink tickets, but gave them away to Abby's aunt and uncle. Apparently, it was a $200 prize we won. Now Free Food and beer, Natty Sci can make that worth about $1000 per person.

Bigworm on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:43 PM

Typically who goes to Thirty Thursdays at the BATS games?

adrian on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:53 PM

I just got back from the 25th floor of humana. On 25th floor, there is a huge overhang that you can walk out on that with glass walls around you. All of the VP's, Uppermanagement, CEO's get to go there tomorrow for the airshow and thunder and have a party. Lucky People

Brock on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:55 PM

Is the river flooded? I saw a picture in the newspaper online and it looks like its up on the great lawn.

adrian on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:57 PM

I really didn't pay attention to the river. I was watching skydivers and helicopters. But the weather is nice and tomorrow is going to be awesome for the people giogn to the airshow. I wonder if the stealth bomber will be out?

jen on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 3:01 PM

a girl I work with went over there at lunch and she said it was high, but not really flooded. Just a bunch of debris and junk floating around, true Ohio River style.

Bigworm on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 3:01 PM

They are suppose to bring the F22 Raptor this year, which is what I wanted to see last year.

Bigworm on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 3:18 PM

So, a lot of the UK fans on scout.com are pretty much taking to the notion that UK is The Empire. On the tickets board, on the right hand side, there is a Lord Vader mask with a countdown to games.

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=48&a...S=48&F=2761

Phil on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 3:31 PM

My tickets are for free beer and free food. I assume it is just their left over green beer from St. Patties, but I could be mistaken.

Bigworm on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 3:39 PM

Philco - does Tommy O'shea have partners? I only ask because in my neighborhood guide, there is a Zimmerman who claims he owns O'sheas, Flanagans and I think Molley Malone's that lives in my neighborhood.

Posada was behind the plate with a nice reaction. The look at the pitcher saying what the fuck was that pitch

Phil on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 9:42 PM

All I can do is track online from work - why did Dice-K hit A-Rod and Jeter?

I'd like to think this is how it went down. He plunks Jeter and he shakes it off and take his base. Dice K looks on with an evil glare as Jeter won't even make eye contact. So A-Rod steps into the box and POP, another plunk. A-Rod gets up and jobs over to Jeter, who waits for him at first base to kiss his booboo. So Dice-K yells out "You have no...HUEVOS!" and pearl harbors the Jeter and A-Rod as they embrace at first base setting off a bench clearing brawl.

joe on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 9:47 PM

And then someone yells Godzilla and Dice K runs away in fear

joe on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 9:47 PM

Jeter just went yard

Marc did you get my email?

Bigworm on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 10:28 AM

Yeah that is what I am guessing as well, Peter needs to absorb his power and then learn how to use it.

Jay on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 10:37 AM

Yeah. Have you noticed that Peter has gotten darker from the beginning of the season? I wonder if he will beat sylar, and then get consumed by evil, and the other heroes will have to stop him.

Bigworm on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 11:17 AM

Yeah Peter has become darker, however, I don't think he will be the one they have to stop.

Yes, Jay, we unfortunately had to do that touchy-feely bullshit in med school. That fucking shit pissed me off so much. One of the "patient's" evaluation said it didn't seem like I really cared, so I asked her what the fuck tipped her off when I told her to suck it up, your dead mom would smack you if she saw you crying or the fact that I was sitting in a classroom doing this and I was paying her to waste my fucking time. The worst part of this shit is that I got stuck doing it again this year. Except now they're "teaching us to teach." They taught us the compliment sandwich.

Whoever wins this, should get piss ass drunk at Thirsty Thursday, put on an old uni (spikes and all), and see if they can hit the bull (or Bat in this case). Or just get drunk enough to see if you can get through a windup without falling over.

"38% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee."
wow. I guess all those years in Michigan outweighed my years in Tennessee.

Phil on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 4:15 PM

34% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.

I got a lot of "spoken throughout the US."

Phil on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 4:19 PM

Caveat: I tend to just mimick the speaking habits of those around me. When I visit New York / Vermont people usually think I'm from Pennsylvania because I have a slight southern accent, but still use words like "soda" and "sneakers." If I'm around red necks, I'm sure a few y'alls will come out too.

I just got out of a meeting with the manager in charge of enrollment at humana. She offered me a full time job on her staff and asked me my requirements (salary and all that good stuff). I just told her i want memorial week off so i can go to florida. She laughed and said that is fine. Then she asked me how much i was making so i told her. Then she said so do you want to at least make that much?

What kind of question is that? If they pay me the amount that i making now, with humanas perks, then i would be an idiot to pass up on the job.

Jay on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 9:34 AM

Congratulations Adrian. You bastard.

Brock on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 9:53 AM

Just to one-up Adrian:

Novartis contacted me about a position in their Developmental Pathways division. I knew I'd get another job offer 10 seconds before I decide on Nashville. Damn you human resources departments for taking so long!

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 9:58 AM

Well UK fans, Billy G has reeled in his first big recruit in 2007. Alex Legion of Oak Hill, decomitted and released of his LOI from Michigan when Amaker was fired and sources say he will sign his LOI today to UK.

Legion is a 6'4" shooting guard/wing forward that can really shoot the rock and is ranked #33 in the 2007 class by scout.com

Sources say this is only the beginning! I don't think Patterson ends up at UK, but Sanchez (who I am really pulling for because his nickname will be "Dirty") and Lucas are strong possibilities still. Rumors have it Lucas will decide at the end of the week and I am guessing it is either UK or UF. If he goes to UF, Patterson goes to UF.

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 10:01 AM

Yeah, but she said atleast what you make now, so I am hoping you were thinking of a raise built into that offer?

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 10:04 AM

Brock -- where would you be living if you went to work for Novartis?

adrian on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 10:55 AM

Well they allready pay me a shit load now. If they pay me more, I won't complain.

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:06 AM

Yeah that is the good attitude to take. Plus they reward hard work there so you will be able to pretty much write your own ticket. So with what you make, plus 401K options and if they have a pension plan, you would be a damn fool not to stick around there.

With that being said, you turned it down right?

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:10 AM

Adrian and Brock - I like to think that as you guys got your good news today this is what you guys did shortly after.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixsZy2425eY

adrian on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:16 AM

The manager said that she had to "Run Everything by HR" first then she can come up with a salary. There is 401k, pension, i think paid parking but not sure, excellent inusrance (go figure). Those are the pluses. The negatives are 50 -60 hour work weeks, constant head in the gallows, contantly in meetings. The job is always in jeopardy because insurance software can't afford to mess up. But i like the people and there are some hotties down here.

Phil on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:16 AM

Hotties?

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:17 AM

Humana parking is paid for, but you will probably be parking a few blocks away since you are low man on the totum poll. However, remember, that means you are hiring than contractors.

Yeah, Cortney and I will be hiring people for my team. That ought to be intersting.

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:19 AM

adrian on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:20 AM

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 1:42 PM

In my opinion, the most important thing for job security is to get the resume in order and the experience. Job security isn't having a job, it is knowing you can leave and go elsewhere and get another job if and when you need it.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Patterson doesn't sign a LOI and just enrolls into a school.

Bigworm on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 11:38 PM

Here is the thing that I have realized about Patterson and Lucas that another poster on Scout.com posted today. It isn't that Patterson and Lucas are that exceptionally good, it was more the fact that OTS only had a few top recruits of interest, so it makes getting our targets that much more important. Honestly, Billy Clyde has done more in 3 weeks than OTS has done in the last 2 or 3 years in recruiting.

Pitcher's name is Papelbon....with a little change becomes Papel-"boner"...and to relate how excited he has become about Papelboner, he apparently now has an usually painfully prolonged boner. All in all it's rather gay, too, just like the Red Sox.

Bigworm on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 2:56 PM

Isn't A-Rod gay? I mean we all know Jeter is a stud, although breaking up with Jessica Biel was pretty gay.....but A-Rod is definately queer. It will be a tell tell sign if the Yankees get Mike Piazza.

Brock on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 3:07 PM

I just don't understand how come no one is pointing out the fact that A-Rod has packed on like 30 pounds of muscle this season. Its obvious he's 'roided up.

Bigworm on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 3:37 PM

fuck yeah he is on something. A-rod is pretty big, but now he is loaded up.

Phil on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 3:38 PM

Nice article on Walter Thomas, the guy in the draft that has only played in two games in the past 5 years http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/25/s...nyt&emc=rss

Marc on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 4:43 PM

45% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.

Phil on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 4:49 PM

not that test, you retard

Marc on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 5:32 PM

this was funny AND creepy.

Marc on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 5:34 PM

Phil, what damn test? Is there a test in the stuff you gave me yesterday?

Jay on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 5:44 PM

Maybe I should start playing world of warcraft.

Marc on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 6:06 PM

Okay, I indeed AM retarded. I found the test Phil. But I told you I wasn't gonna start it immediately.

Marc on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 6:15 PM

Except for her being a cat lover (which might be a deal-breaker , i has been for me in the past....allergic), I think I found a girl for Jay.
http://louisville.craigslist.org/w4.../300408081.html

Jay on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 7:24 PM

Marc, I am over 6 ft tall, I'm over 27, AND I hate cats.

Phil on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 7:35 PM

Wait, does she want a Virgin to deflower? How is she going to prove you are a virgin anyways?

Marc on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 2:37 AM

I guess she'll check to see if the hyMAN is intact. Thank you. That is my last horrible pun for the night. Tip your waitress. and Safe Drively. Thank you. Goodnight.

Jay on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 9:05 AM

Happy Birthday to Jet Li, 44.

Jay on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 11:39 AM

Hey Marc, remember that time I walked into an awkward situation and made it awkwarder? (Think about it)

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 1:08 PM

Fucking Beantowners...

Schilling's bloody sock called into question?

http://www.benmaller.com/

Fucking pussy probably wasn't even hurt, and just came up with an excuse in case they lost.

Bigworm on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 1:14 PM

But they didn't lose.

Yanks got fooled by a fake bloody sock. Talking about some pussies.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 1:37 PM

I think the yanks are turning into some pussies, and I was reading some article the other day talking about that. As much as I like the Torre style of coaching (the emotionless we've been here before act like it thing), you still need a guy on teh team to step up, take charge, and kick somebody's ass every now and then. Bring back the Yanks from their first run in the late 90's with Paul O'Neil. He may of been a bit of a head case but he wasn't scared to kick some ass, or a water cooler. Shit, Dice-K (a fucking beantowner) plunks your two best players (A-rod and Jeter), and there's not even astirring in the dugout...fucking pussies. They're still gonna win the AL East and shove it up Boston's cunt.

Bigworm on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 1:37 PM

5 best hires in college basketball per Gregg Doyel...yes he is still an ass clown!

Billy Gillispie, Kentucky: Not just a home run, this was a walk-off grand slam. In all of college basketball, and this includes that cute little bugger down there at Florida, Gillispie was the perfect hire for Kentucky. By the time he's done running Louisville out of the state, the Cardinals will be getting their mail in Missouri.

Bigworm on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 1:41 PM

"Papelboner" is going to fuck the rest of your old ass pussies you refer to as Yankees.

Chris - I can actually understand what you are talking about your favorite team going soft. UK has been that way for way to long, but it won't be much longer till Billy Clyde Gillispie whips my team back into shape. I miss the days when Magloire ruled the paint for UK.

Tomorrow is a Natty Sci holiday. Bitches get your asses out. We are going natty sci balls out for a retirement party for my dad. How often do we have a drunk dad. Be there or be gay.

joe on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 9:41 PM

plans are TBD

joe on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 9:42 PM

it has been determined we are drinking

Brock on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 10:35 PM

I will drink some bourbon and punch a hillbilly in West Virginia in the honor of Old Man Burket.

Barry on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 11:36 PM

Joe tell your dad congrasts. I'm going to the coast this weekend and if I catch another big ass fish, I'll dedicate it to him.

jen on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 8:38 AM

Unfortunately I'm going to a hillbilly wedding in Tennessee. I could also punch one in honor of Old Man Burket, but its likely to be a relative, so maybe not a good idea.

Jay on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 8:39 AM

Yeah, I'll be there.

Jay on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 8:44 AM

I'm not trying to be political, but this article actually explains that a "slam dunk" was originally a basket ball move.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/04...reut/index.html

Bigworm on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 10:57 AM

Joe/Chris - Do we have an update for the evening?

jen on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11:05 AM

I've done about 10 minutes of actual work today. I'm seriously not motivated.

Bigworm on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11:14 AM

I am logging in with about 5 minutes. Atleast you are twice as productive as I am today.

jen on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11:22 AM

well, I did dust my desk. that should count. 11 minutes. I'm on a roll.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11:24 AM

No update yet that I know of. I am guessing my dad will want to go out early, but he is supposed to be talking to Joe about the details. After work, I have a dinner at Savechea with some residents and a rep, so I may have to meet you all out. That place is actually called Seviche, formerly known as the Jicama Grill. Goddamn foriegn names and spellings.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11:33 AM

Speaking of foriegners, more specificly hating foriegners and just about evryone else too, I just saw American History X for the first time last night. That is one fucked up movie. After seeing the movie, did anyone else wonder if crushing a man's skull on a curb feels like stepping on a big bug?

Wrecking Crew on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11:39 AM

So I'm sitting in the library at Jewish Hospital and suddenly Metallica's "One" starts playing out of nowhere. I look next to me hoping the old retired MD sitting next to me was playing it on his computer, but it was just a trtuck outside.

Bigworm on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 11:56 AM

American History X is one fucked up movie for sure, although, I think it is a really good movie.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 12:17 PM

There was a Chris Redman sighting on Page2's UniWatch. He wore #7 in tribute to his birthday 7/7/77.

Cuban on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 12:56 PM

Jay if your coming there will be Tequila

Jay on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 1:30 PM

That is why he wore a 7 in college.

Jay on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 1:30 PM

So, are we going out tonight? Or just getting f'ed up at joe's house?

Marc on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 2:13 PM

There should still be a bottle of Pepe Lopez tequila over at Joe's house unless you all drank it. I brought it over a while ago and, last time I checked, no one had touched it. I guess no one wants to do mucho tequila shots if Big Jay or Papa Burket isn't there.

adrian on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 3:02 PM

DURP!

adrian on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 4:47 PM

ROAR!

Bigworm on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 4:48 PM

Adrian - you going out tonight?

joe on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 5:34 PM

meet at my house between 7 and 8. I am picking my dad up and coming back to my house around 8. We will figure it out from there. Probably go to wicks or order wicks and have it delivered or send someone out to pick it up.

joe on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 5:52 PM

If you are coming over call me

joe on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 8:48 PM

bitches get over here

Bigworm on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 9:21 PM

I am at my parents house right now, will be over a little later.

Jerome on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 12:13 PM

The next Ryan Leaf? The next Peyton Manning? Who ya got?

Phil on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 1:10 PM

What the hell is Coach Spurrier doing in a Under Armour commercial. Why the hell is he taking a phone call about someone running a go route?

Phil on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 1:18 PM

Hey Jerome, you know what Brady Quinn needs to do? Learn Regular Expressions.

Cuban on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 1:23 PM

Phil,
Joe wants to know if you still have the extra HD cables for the Xbox 360. That he could have.

Phil on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 1:28 PM

Adrian Peterson, already prone to injury, going to a dome team? This will only end badly.

And yeah, I still have those cables.

Phil on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 1:50 PM

Oh fuck. If the Bills draft Quinn I'm going to be pissed off.

Phil on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 2:14 PM

Keshawn Johnson sure is ... articulate.

Cuban on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 3:49 PM

Maybe the Giants should take Quinn since Eli Sucks

Jerome on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 6:47 PM

Hmm ... Next QB taken after Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn is -- Kevin Kolb?

Jerome on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 6:48 PM

I think everyone should learn regular expressions. Although, they're not really the answer when $50 is on the line.

Bigworm on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 9:32 AM

I know Okoe (sp?) for Louisville went 10, where did Michael Bush go?

Bigworm on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 9:46 AM

Nevermind I found out myself, he went undrafted in the first day.

joe on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 10:07 AM

lorenzo booker, garrett wolfe, t hunt of PSU, some other random dudes all went ahead of Bush

Cuban on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 11:08 AM

Bush is a RAIDER

Cuban on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 11:13 AM

Bush and Russel in the backfield.

That's 2 big Nappy-Headed Ho's back there.

Phil on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 11:38 AM

I guess Al Davis figures if you can't manage to block anybody you might as well just put 525lbs in the backfield and hope for the best.

Phil on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 12:07 PM

ok, be honest - who checked the fantasy baseball to see who owned Josh Hancock and to see what Yahoo listed him as?

Phil on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 1:27 PM

Neat little UI to check the speed of your internet connection. Here's my work one:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/119508559.png

Phil on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 1:31 PM

Btw, the only people outside of ISPs that have come close to my score (which is probably limited by my machine) have been home users running Verizon FiOS.
http://www22.verizon.com/content/ConsumerFios/

If I had my own house I would certainly entertain getting that instead of a cable modem.

Phil on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 1:37 PM

Following in the footsteps of Frank Moreau, Kolby Smith has landed in KC.

Phil on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 4:25 PM

Atlanta just picked up Daren Stone.

The reason he moved up in the draft? Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msJePHnIHT4

Phil on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 4:46 PM

The one thing I do like about the NFL is that they seem to band together and send a message to people trying to go the NBA route and leaving early just to get paid, not because they are ready.

Brandon Siler is still on the board - he thought he'd go in the first round. ESPN had him as the #3 ILB. 14 ILB have been taken ahead of him.

And it looks like Nate's "history" is still haunting him in the draft. All kinds of ILB being taken over both of them.

Jerome on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 5:08 PM

We got GAY! We got GAY! If he makes the team, I'm gonna be the biggest Gay fan ever! People will see me and say, "Look at that Gay fan and his Gay jersey! Hey, are you really Gay?" And I'd be all like, "A lot of people look at me and think I'm Gay. But really, I'm just a gigantic Gay fan!" It's a great day. I'm so into Gay right now. It's just a matter of time before we get Gay on the field.

Phil on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 5:30 PM

Well, the Bills drafted You with their 7th round pick. ESPN says that You have character, durability and are too old.

And the Chargers end Siler's misery!

joe on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at 6:23 PM

In response to Phil's Josh Hancock comment, I did check it earlier. He is still active and there is a note link next to his name stating:

"Apr 29 Updating an earlier report, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports St. Louis Cardinals reliever Josh Hancock crashed into the rear of a tow truck that was parked in the far left westbound lane of Highway 40 (Interstate 64) shortly after 12:30 a.m. The tow truck driver, who was seated in the vehicle at the time, was unhurt. The tow truck driver told police that his emergency lights were on, and that he honked his horn when he saw the Explorer approaching in his rear view mirror, but that the Explorer didn't slow down or swerve to avoid the collision."
