Get Healthy Stagger

This morning was the inaugural Get Healthy Kentucky 5k. They had them all over the state, however, I went ahead and did the race in Frankfort so I didn't have to drive out to Iroqois park. The race started at the Capitol buliding and went all through downtown, passing most of the establishments on the Dragon Stagger. Towards the beginning, a cute girl passed me up. I had the tough choice of trying to keep up with her (because she was cute), or trying to stay at my same pace. I decided just to let her go. She totally wanted to nail me, though. Throughout the last leg, I kept pace with a MILF, who was dragging a dog and her daughter. I ran (i.e. jogged) for about half, and walked the other half. My finishing time was 45 min 22 sec. That is not very good, however, it is a bench mark against which I can measure myself.

I'm planning on doing that zoo race that sarah (sara?) mentioned. Is anyone else?

Japanese women getting taller and curvier. Jackpot, baby!

(Yes, I did steal this from Fark).

Phil on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 11:50 AM

I think the Zoo run was this morning. I was thinking about doing it but my knees are killing me. I haven't really ran since February (http://www.nattysci.com/nikeplus.aspx), but I've been biking it and doing some other cardio. Maybe I'll give running a shot today.

Congrats on finishing your race, big jay!

Phil on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 11:53 AM

oh wait, according to the Fleet Feet website there is another one coming up on the 26th sponsored by Bellarmine.

It doesn't look like there any of those goofy 3k races that Natty Sci dominated last year. That's gay.

Jay on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 1:21 PM

Thanks, Philco.

Phil on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 2:12 PM

All kinds of Halo 3 impressions are showing up on the web. It looks pretty sweet. If my XBOX wasn't out in Texas getting a frontal lobotomy I'd probably buy Crackdown and get the XBOX Live Gold membership just to play the beta.

Here's IGN coverage: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/787/787729p1.html
Kotaku is posting a lot of stuff too: http://www.kotaku.com/

It looks pretty solid for a beta from the images I've seen. The fact that the game isn't anti-aliased right now is a bit crappy, but maybe they turned it off as they optimize the code for the final bits and wanted to leave the game playable.

I'm doing the PT school race at the zoo. I have a brochure in my email. Jay I'll email it to you. It is the 26 or whatever taht saturday is.

joe on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 5:07 PM

Ok it isn't gonna email. You know what is disgusting, seeing a kid bust his eye up fouling a baseball into his own eye. Is it bad when blood is gushing from your eye and you aren't cut but it is coming out of your actual eye and it is swollen shut? Either way, EMS took care of it.

adrian on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 6:28 PM

I biked for the first time this year at waverly today and it kicked my ass.

Jay on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 7:43 PM

Hopefully I'll see sarah before it. If not, I'm sure I can get the info.

joe on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 8:57 PM

We need to recruit more people to post on this site

Dave on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 6:56 PM

Hey Phil, or anyone that might know. My brother has a guy at work that wants to sell a X-box 360 for $200.00. Is that a pretty decent price? I didn't get all the information about it but would assume it is the basic model. I was thinking about maybe buying it. I know you and Joe have one, and was wondering if you all that it was a good game system.

Phil on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 7:32 PM

Dave - good to hear from you!

As to the 360, my vote is to not buy the core system. It doesn't have a hard drive which really, really sucks. At first I thought it was silly that I'd need a hard drive to save all my games, but then they started releasing all kinds of demos and these XBox live arcade games for like $10. I probably have played the $10 games you can download 10x longer than I've played normal DVD based games. Plus the bigger systems have the component cables for the HD sets along with the wireless controllers. If you can get a system with a hard drive and component cables for $200, I'd jump all over that.

Phil on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 7:43 PM

Case in point, without a hard drive you'd never be able to play Happy Tree Friends on your 360
http://kotaku.com/gaming/happy-tree...xbla-260045.php

DISCO BEAR!

joe on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 7:53 PM

I think Cuban, Jay, Brody and I will vouch that the HD sets are well worth it. I upgraded TVs and games on an HD tv with the component cables are way better then regular. It was worth the TV upgrade just for video games. Smackdown is awesome with the HD set

Phil on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 7:56 PM

Next time I'm at my place I'll bring over Gears of War for you guys and a couple of other games. My 360 is being "repaired" for the next month so the games are useless to me.

Brock on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 8:50 PM

CURB STOMP!

An XBox is worth buying just for Gears of War.

Phil on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 8:53 PM

Wow, while I'm not home that often I meant "next time I'm at your place".

ahem

Dave on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 9:17 PM

I just called my brother and he said the 360 had wireless controlers and a hard drive, so it's not the core system. He said the guy had it for 2 to 3 months, and never had time to really play it. So it looks like I'm pretty much forced to get this, cause it sounds like such a good deal. Thanks for the help.

If only Chris were there he would have piledrived her, or at least made her face bleed. (He's good at that.) Joe could have made her cry. (He's good at THAT.) Cuban could have ridiculed her at a ball game. Douglas could have banged her (its what he does). Barry could have put crabs in her pants with the other crabs present. Wes could have torn his shirt off and told her she wouldn't like him when he's angry (or projectile-vomit on her). Bmac could have made her ride in the back of the Miata. Lynnie could have been there. Phil could have called her fat. I could have hidden behind the jukebox. Brent could have given her some Bangkok-ian disease. Stew could have put Iraqi sand in her vagina. Brock could have skull-fucked her.... and then ROARED.....and Adrian could have told us all the story over again.

Announcement from NBC for all the Heroes nerds:

In announcing its new fall schedule Monday in New York, the Peacock's biggest surprise was the unveiling of a hitherto top-secret spinoff of the network's lone rookie hit from this season. Heroes: Origins will focus on previously unseen folks whose lives are transformed when they discover they have incredible abilities.

In an American Idol-esque twist, viewers will get a chance to pick their favorite new superhero during the spinoff's six-episode run, with the character tallying the most votes moving up to the big leagues, becoming a full-time cast member on Heroes during the 2008-09 season.

Adding the new series will allow NBC extend the reach of the Heroes brand to a combined 30 episodes, with the new show running during Heroes ' long hiatus. The series took a ratings hit after returning from a seven-week absence this season.

On a related note, I went searching for some dude from Yahoo the auto draft that I got. When I typed in his name "____________ girlfriend" appeared higher on the list than "________________"'s name did.

On on hand, people care more about jerking off to your girlfriend than your existence. On the other hand, that means you are tagging one seriously hot chick.

I really liked it. However, I thought that they jumped the shark when they started putting everybody in relationships.

Marc on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 10:45 AM

I should have known Studio 60 would have died. I love Aaron Sorkin's multi-character face-paced dram-edies. Yet, they always get canceled. I never really watch The West West, I think they is his one TV success.

Brock are you sure they will? I was thinking that Post Docs all had about the same salary schedule and you might get a locator adjustment?

Brock you are correct in assuming they should submit a formal offer to you. There is nothing wrong with asking them if they are offering you a formal position andi if so, what is the compensation package. That way you don't look like a greedy bastard because compensation package includes things like salary, insurance, 401K matches, company paid pensions, etc..of course I could be wrong.

Phil on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 2:49 PM

Wes, the one piece of advice that will probably hold true that was of any value was that between the good Nikkons and the good Canons I'll never be able to tell the difference. What does matter is which one has the better lens. You'll probably spend at least 10x what you spent on a camera on lenses. The other nice tool was the Flickr camera finder which graphs how many pictures are being uploaded with what camera:
http://www.flickr.com/cameras/

For what it is worth I was going to buy Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi and the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 Image Stabilized USM SLR Lens along with just a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens.

Phil on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 3:06 PM

I like the relationships. I mean, each character has his own story. The puppy is a bit too much, but you have to over look things like that in these kinds of paintings. The way he's *holding* her... it's almost... filthy. I mean, he's about to kiss her and she's pulling away. The way the leg's sort of smashed up against her... Phew... Look how he's painted the blouse sort of translucent. You can just make out her breasts underneath and it's sort of touching him about here. It's really... pretty torrid, don't you think? Then of course you have the onlookers peeking at them from behind the doorway like they're all shocked. They wish. Yeah, I must admit, when I see a painting like this, I get emotionally... erect.

I was transferred 7 times, spoke to 7 indian guys named andy, 2 supervisors and all for 8 dollars. I think once my bill gets straightened out I am going to change providers. Xota, how long was the race and what was your time?

Brock on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 9:39 AM

Adrian, you're a retard. Reading skills are good... take a look at the main post.

Come on, Adrian, it's already on the god damn website.

adrian on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 9:51 AM

Oh, it just shows how much i pay attention. Anyways is a 5k roughly 3 miles?

Bigworm on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 10:02 AM

Not that I really know, but I think 5K is 3.1 miles. See it really paid to date a cross country runner in highschool.

Jay on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 10:41 AM

Yeah, it's 3.1 miles (actually, 3.107520199 miles, give or take). I just learned something. My affinity for hot lesbians is superceded by my disdain for crazy girls.

Bigworm on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 10:49 AM

Well there we go, growing up I hated running 5K, if is was only 3.1 miles I would have been golden, but 3.107520199 miles....fuck that.

Brock on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 11:05 AM

Yeah, that last 188 yards will kick your ass.

Bigworm on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 11:38 AM

No spiderman 3 for me yet. I'll probably wait for DVD.

I saw it-- it was decent. Not fabulous though.

Jay on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 1:43 PM

See you later, Cuban and Joe. Overall, spiderman 3 was not as good as the first two. However, it is worth watching just for the humor.

Jay on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 1:44 PM

My favorite quote about the movie came from kevin perrera on attack of the show. "Apparently black goop from outer space turns you into a fall out boy fan".

Jay on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 3:33 PM

Holy crap, Chris Crush. I'm coming into town tonight. I'm up for doing something. If you want to go out, email me your number at bigjaymfs@google.com. (I'm sure you don't want to post your number online). Or, just email and I'll send you my number (again, I'm not putting it online).

I'll be in town this weekend.

Bigworm on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 3:58 PM

Crush on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 5:06 PM

I'm alive. The emerald isle has not strangled the life out of me yet. Sorry Jay but tonights out as I have a softball game and a tee time tomorrow morning at 6:40 with my dad and a couple of my uncles. I am up for anything this weekend though. My e-mail is topes01@insightbb.com.

Bigworm on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 5:15 PM

Crush so what are you doing now?

Brock on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 5:28 PM

What the hell are you still doing in Ireland?! Even I have graduated.

Crush on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 5:53 PM

I graduate next month and then hopefully i will do my intern year there then come back stateside and do my residency. My program was a 5 year program. I think I have avoided joining the real world long enough and I am completely fed up with school. I've been at it for 10 years. At the moment, since I still have not received a pay check, I figured I could mooch off my parents for a few weeks before I have to go back. They have been quite lonely since bryce moved out so I have been welcomed back with open arms.

Jay on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 8:18 PM

That's cool, I'll email you my number.

Wrecking Crew on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 11:17 AM

Anything going on tonight since so many people are in town? I've got a couple weddings this afternoon, but I'm off tomorrow. Give me a call if anything is going on.

Crush on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 11:54 AM

Bryce is finishing up his second year of med school at UL, meaning he is studying for his boards at the moment. He moved out almost two years ago when he got married. Just let me know if people are getting together this weekend.

Sorry I couldn't make it out, I had other stuff I had to do.

Jay on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 10:26 AM

I was feeling a little sick, so I just stayed in. Heroes finale is tonight. Tomorrow I get digital cable and dvr, and tommorow evening we are going to a legends game for 25 cent hot dogs.

adrian on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:12 AM

Betcha can't eat three dollars worth Jay.

jen on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:13 AM

gross. I went to the Louisville Fire game this weekend. If anyone is ever interested, my roommate works for ESPN radio and can give us free tickets for any home game.

Bigworm on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:29 AM

Jen,

Does ESPN Radio cover Roller Derby. For some reason I am drawn to it.

Bigworm on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:33 AM

Heroes is going to be awesome and I am going to DVR it just in case.

Adrian you riding tonight?

jen on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:39 AM

not sure but I'll find out...

Bigworm on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 11:44 AM

I'd love to watch some Roller Derby

Jay on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 12:20 PM

Actually, Adrian, the reason we are going stems from an impromtu white castle eating competition where I ate 15. So, hopefully, I will eat 2.50 to 3 dollars worth. Unless I'm a pussy.

For some reason "My Own Prison" came into my head when reading that article. Wierd.

Marc on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 12:52 PM

Jay, that is disgusting. I think most of those huge guys that cam in second to Kobayashi at the hot-dog eating contests got around 14-20 dogs. You wouldn't be far from them it you at $2.50-$3.00 of dogs. They are "athletes", so make sure you stretch and have at personal trainer there.

Oh and Jay I thought you'd like this. I caught this late at night on one of the movie channels (Showtime of HBO). It is a teen comedy starring Milo Ventimiglia from Heroes, Lacey Chabert, and occassional gratuitous boobies.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407732/

And (once again) if you need something to fill your Heroes fix for when it goes off for the summer, then you can catch the Cheerleader playing...a cheerleader in this movie.

One is from Laos and the other is from Bangkok. Long story short, Brent ate a fried maggot. I assume he passed an Asian looking Marcus Brodie and asked "Are you gonna eat that?" and grabbed it off his plate out of pure instincts.

Bigworm on Monday, May 21, 2007 at 2:37 PM

Marc - I actually enjoy the movie Dirty Deeds unrated edition. It has been on Starz! and I have watched it several times. It is a pretty decent teen comedy type flick.

Sorry, drove back to Cincy this morning. I'm proud to announce that Team Schweitzer came within 7 points of winning the Men's Quad V-ball Sand title on Sunday. This is the first time me and my brothers have all played together competitively. Unfortunately, we're not all at our prime, but we still kick ass.

Heroes was awesome tonight!

The question now becomes is who is worse than the boogieman?

Brock on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 12:30 AM

Totally random, but I came across this:

Apparently the Native American guy who played Billy in Predator ran for governor of KY back in 2003.

http://www.sonnylandham.com/governor.cfm

I think there must be some plan among that movie's cast to rule the world or something.

Jay on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 8:45 AM

Brock-no doubt. Wes-I liked it too. I just wish they had cut out Richard Roundtree's part. "You've had the power all along." It was too much like wizard of oz. However the rest was awesome. And Hiro did indeed look like a badass.

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 10:27 AM

I just want to know who Molly didn't want to think of because he is worse than the Boogieman.

Jay on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 11:00 AM

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 2:21 PM

If we suit up we should throw down money on a limo and playing the New Years Mix all night long as we move from bar to bar.

Brock on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 2:35 PM

That's one idea.

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 3:06 PM

Or we should do that anyways so people can get crazy and not worry about anyone having to drive.

Marc on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 3:34 PM

Okay, I just got a weird phonecall. Did any of you lose your Verizon Wireless cellphone in Seneca park about two days ago or more? Some guy called me saying he found a phone that had my number in it (listed as Marcus). He is willing to return it to the person or to Verizon. I think he says the phone is no longer on the network, like it was cancelled. he called me on his phone. Call me if you want to get the guy's number to get your phone back, if you want it. Don't know if whoever it is has a new phone already or not. Just let me know.

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 3:50 PM

I just got that same phone call. Does anyone know who's number is 502.412.7399?

This guy found the phone in Seneca Park while he was jogging.

Okay, I just watched last night's Heroes episode, so I can finally read the damned website without having to worrying about spoilers. Thanks, ASSES.

so why wouldnt the guy call from the phone he found so you could tell whose number it was to return it?

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 9:27 PM

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 10:36 PM

Well I talked to him earlier and he said he thought it was stolen but he confirmed he was in Seneca park the day he "lost" it . So I gave him that guys number and told him he was hard to understand.

Yeah, we're taking some time off to get to know ourselves. And marc couldn't have picked any pictures that made my complexion look worse.

Marc on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 9:30 PM

Jay, to be fair. I hate the pictures of me too. But they are recent, and some of them have both of us, and just us in them. We'll get the publicity shots, when your skin doesn't look bad, and when I'm not fat. .............so it'll be a while. and it's just a starter page until we find someone who knows about webpages that can hook us up with a better page. I bet we could find some dorks like that on some message-board website where a bunch of jackasses make stupid comments back and forth instead of working.

Brock on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 11:26 PM

I'll scrounge for some legendary Jay and Marc photos.

Marc on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 9:04 AM

"So what are we doing for your birthday?" I've been asked that a lot. and my only response has been, "Rocking out and being awesome." I leave it to other to make suggestions or whatnot for those who want to go out. Planning, just like leaving voicemail messages is not my forte. However I do suggest Chuck E. Cheese and Gymboree or FunDome. Because the chicks there are hot. just kidding. but we could relive the Laser Tag episode of How I met Your Mother. Of course I'm good with just booze and passing out.

Marc I recommend this picture of you, when you discovered Mr. Feeney has his own liquor:

I'll look at home for some others. I think I have some from New Years.

jen on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 9:05 AM

Holy crap, Marc, what are you doing up so early?

Marc on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 9:09 AM

If my printer had ink, because if i felt like paying all the money to refill it, i'd print myself a t-shirt with that picture on it and wear it out tomorrow. well, either that one or this one. http://picasaweb.google.com/jenn.mo...784923147314898

Marc on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 9:10 AM

I can't wait to leave work at 5:00. This has been the longest week ever.

Bigworm on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 10:27 AM

Damnit, they finally caught Reggie "The Reptile" in L.A.'s Lake Machado. They make it sound like he is gaining so much when watching the press conference. I mean Lake Machado is freaking huge for a single gator, like he is truly going to be happy going from his own lake to a zoo (albeit his enclsore is pretty nice).

jen on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 11:00 AM

Wait... they had a press conference over an alligator?

Brock on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 11:02 AM

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page...ge=glock/070514

Bigworm on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 4:26 PM

Reggie became a celebrity because he was dumped in Lake Machado by his owner. There were alligator citings in this Lake Machado so people started flocking to Lake Machado to see the gator. Well after his reputation grew the city tried to capture Reggie but they were never successful in their attempts. Steve Erwin heard of Reggie and offered to lead the rescue/capture attempt, however, he died before that was possible. Reggie was then not seen for about 2 years and the city decided he must have moved on. Well, Reggie returned so the watch was back on and now he is in the zoo.

How does anytime after 6 at my house tommorow sound for a way to kick off the evenings activities? I chose 6 because 6 gives me enough time to come home from umpiring shower and sit down for a bit. Basically that is the earliest I can go. Just something to throw out to start with. Do we want to light the grill weather pending? Just throwing out ideas. Getting the ball rolling. I just think Marc wants to play Smackdown. Anybody have a way for us to do 4 controllers for smackdown?

After looking down at my shirt at the end of the night, I think I realized why creepy-hovering-guy was asking each of us if we were American? (I was wearing the Bangkok Red Bull shirt Brent brought back for me.) But he was still, drunk, stupid, trying to hit on Laura, and throwing his book around before Brent chucked it across the room. I normally don't like confrontation, but I would have been fine with seeing Brent beat the shit out of him.

Grover! Grover!

Phil on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 10:10 AM

Marc, the reason he was asking if we were american because he was looking for sympathy for whatever caused his need for a cane while he in the army.

I did feel bad for the dude - I thought it was a terrible combo of PTSD and being drunk. But I talked with my buddy Bo from work who served for quite some time and then was an MP after that. His verdict - dude got in a car wreck at Fort Knox. He doesn't think a true soldier would be trolling for sympathy in a bar.

Brock on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 4:12 PM

Probably... but she would go alone. I'd catch on fire.

Marc on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 4:13 PM

The museum expects 250,000 a year? $27 million dollars spent. how much are they going to charge? if it doesn't stay open past a year, they'll need $108 per person to break even. Here's a question, if you go and you point and laugh at the exhibits, do they throw you out? What about going in wearing a Darwin-fish shirt, while being completely respectful?

Tiffany asked if I'd take her for her birthday in August. I don't know if these are the kinda of heavy-thinkers that would be accepting of interracial relationships. I have to know what they have in the gift shop.

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 4:18 PM

Marc - most businesses don't expect a profit after 1 year.

Marc on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 4:26 PM

Holy shit, the museum cost $20 per person. or you can buy an annual pass for $60. This isn't Six Flags people.

Wes, I realize most business do not expect a profit early on. Hell TV and radio generally get deep into the red the first 3-4 years (the Fox News Radio). I just don't believe the museum will last. You'll have a bunch of nuts go the first year. and have some go to see the absurdity of it in their eyes. But who buys a "season pass" to a museum? and it will lose it's appeal after awhile. Is believing the ideas of the museum a necessary quality for employment for its over 70 workers? or do they see it as an easier pay check than Wal-mart?

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 4:32 PM

I think most business plans call for profits in years 5-10.

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 4:33 PM

I think Natty Sci would get thrown out of the creation museum, shit we used to get thrown out of every other place as well. I remember when Dr. Korn went up against that creationist guy in the debate. He came in wearing that University of California at Santa Cruz sweatshirt with the Banana Slug on it. And told some story about how the banana slug was evidence supporting evolution. Burket was soo fired up after that creationist guy was done speaking, I think he wanted to rip off the guys arms and beat him with it.

Brock on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 11:44 AM

I'm changing my career.... I'm going to go market that MS Surface product to scientists...

If my lab bench had that technology, I wouldn't have to flip through notebooks or papers to find out information about the DNA or sample I'm working with. I could just lie down a tube with a barcoded label that would bring up all the information about that sample and bring up protocols I needed for the next experiment! Wait... that's the same career... but I want a piece of that technology action.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...0529/index.html

Phil on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 1:52 PM

hey brock, how much do you think someone would pay for a solution like that?

Brock on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 2:05 PM

Thats funny Phil, because I'm actually structuring a letter to MS about this idea.

The big market would be pharmaceutical and biotech companies who would pay probably $25,000 for that system. The money would really come in with the accessories like the bar-coding software and hardware, the protocol databases and search software, and add-ons like integrated water baths, automated pipets, and chemical mixers.

Honestly, the first to buy this stuff would be massive academic research labs funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute because they basically have unlimited funding for equipment.

Brock on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 2:06 PM

I'm just sitting here coming up with ideas to integrate this into a lab setting, and I could do this for years... the amount of time this would save would be worth billions to companies invested in basic or clinical research.

Phil on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 2:40 PM

The hardware itself is going to run $10,000. It would take a tremendous amount of effort to get that software written and running properly with that data would be a massive undertaking. MASSIVE.

I think you could reasonably sell that product for an initial charge of $100,000 with additional devices costing $20,000 and a yearly maintenance fee of $5000 per device.

Brock on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 2:44 PM

Sounds good to me.... but I don't think the data would be as massive as you think. Most protocols and DNA sequence information is already digitized and readily accessible either via the web or by electronic cataloging.

Bigworm on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 2:45 PM

Actually it would be really fucking costly and after working for a pharmaceutical company, they put most of their money towards drug development and new drug entities as opposed to working more efficiently. I think the average is something like 12 years and close to a billion dollars to bring a new drug to market. So, they wouldn't want to waste their money on luxury items like MS Surface. Also, keep in mind laboratory equipment to routinely test quality control samples like HPLCs or GCs cost about $50-200K per pop depending on how sophisticated it is, and much more than that for detail work like NMR, Xray Crystallography, purifucation systems, etc.... Scientific instrumentation is the better investment and gives pharma/biotech companies much more bang for your buck because you increase sample analysis throughput. These systems come with their own LIMS (laboratory information management system) to pull all of that information together. In m experience, the bottleneck is sample throughput for analysis, not writing information in laboratory

The big plus the surface could bring would be to rid us of the laboratory notebooks and go paperless so to speak, however, we had archived paperless and paper data to support all of our testing on our products.

Granted, in about 10-15 years when the prices drop down and it becomes more economical to add a few of these in a laboratory it would make more sense. In that point of time, people would also have customized "pharma" software bundles available for sophisticated information management.

Brock on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 3:06 PM

I think you are underestimating the investment very large pharmaceutical companies are making in basic research right now. When I was interviewing with the lab head at Novartis, she said they are making a new corporate goal to invest more heavily in basic research because its becoming increasingly obvious that if they know the direct molecular target of a drug that they can customize the chemical to interact with that target, thus cutting down the need for endless random drug testing hoping that the chemical will do something positive.

Granted, what I've initially proposed sounds more like eliminating the need for writing down experimental results, but what I'm really aiming this product toward is to perform the more mundane tasks you would hire a technician for, in actually performing standard procedures. Also, by having the genomic and other such databases at your fingertips in the lab would allow instant hypothesis-driven ideas to take shape at the bench, increasing creativity rather than being lost on a stickie slapped on your desk (like the 50 I have surrounding me right now that I never get around to checking out). Taking this a step WAY further... the "intuitive" steps in basic science could ultimately be taken by the automated computer software and preliminary data would be generated in the absence of a scientist who can come in that morning to find all kinds of goodies to think about from the start.

Phil on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 3:11 PM

Brock - I am not talking about combinatorial chemistry type stuff here, I am talking about the high sample volume that pharmaceutical manufacturing companies must analyze to meet market demands.

Yes and I do agree that there are some things that you will be able to automate, however, you still must take the time to interact with the computer to perform your function, much like writing down bits of information or pieces of a thought on a sticky pad.

Perhaps it would be more conceivable at a research facility, but I just don't see it hitting mainstream at pharma manufacturing companies, especially since you will see more and more foreign generic pharmaceutical companies grab US marketshare as patents expire thus reducing income from major US drug companies and thus reducing capital expeditures for luxury items.

I think it would be a great tool to use for ridding us of laboratory notebooks, no doubt about that. And what can the surface do for basic research that high end computers or super computers will not be able to do? You can sit at your desk right then and there search for what you are looking for. Any good research facility should have a database designed for their research in order to be able to pull records and search for key words. And I completely agree that their is a huge investment in basic research, I guess I just fail to see how the MS Surface can ultimately improve research capabilities far greater than a computer, considering it is a computer. Granted the user interaction is way cooler (think the Wii vs. PS3 or XBox 360), however when it comes down to it, you can have software written for PCs that will do the same thing, except with a mouse and keyboard.

Where I really see somethign like this taking off is a touch screen application for ballparks or hotels or even restaurants. You will be able to order at your seat, table or room service and cut out direct communication with your server/order taker.

Bigworm on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 4:15 PM

I am not trying to piss on your ideas, dont' think that, just convince me is all I am asking you to do.

Bigworm on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 4:43 PM

Jay & Marc - are you guys performing tonight?

Brock on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 4:46 PM

I think the point you are missing is the direct interface of the real world lab bench with the in silico database world. The sample you hold in your hand is finally accessible by the computer now. When you lie the tube on the screen, or insert into a specialized tube rack, the computer recognizes its contents and provides the user (scientist) with all the information about that sample and potential uses or experiments to be performed on the sample.

Heck, even accessories that test the quality of the sample would further interconnect the real world with the virtual. Now, with chemistry, as you are discussing with the drug production, there might be limitations as you point out. But with biological samples, there is simply more to that item than its concentration and purity. A plasmid DNA encoding an oncogene will need endless manipulation at the experimental level versus the production level which would be the target of MS Surface.

I sit my test tube down on MS Surface with plasmid DNA encoding gene X. MS Surface recognizes the tube, tells me the concentration, the purity, but also tells me the DNA sequence, the restriction sites, the potential cloning strategies for reporter assays, knockout targeting vectors, protein expression vectors, etc. This is where it becomes a great tool. The goal would be to incorporate neural networking programs to best decide what molecular techniques can be employed on this sample for optimal uses.

That's just a DNA sample... I'm not even talking about protein samples, tissue samples, microbiologicals (bacteria and viruses), and cells.

Apparently BMW is bringing the 1 series over to the US, which is basically a shorter and lighter 3 series. Imagine that with a 300 hp engine and that will be the BMW 135.....which could basically be called the BMW M1.

i'm sorry brock that i haven't been able to regale this website with talk of beastiality, but trust me when i say i have not given up my ways. my lack of posts is due directly to my job which does not allow nattysci access, but just to make up for some lost time, i was at the zoo over the weekend and made sweet love to a rhino. it was beautiful, his massive tongue licked my bung hole, and then he stuck his horn up my ass, and we used no lube, and you know what that means. that's right, there was blood everywhere. the pain, to quote john mellencamp, hurt so good. as he was pounding my ass with his horn i jacked off on a camel's hump. the camel then spit on my cock and called over his giraffe friend, who simultaneously licked my ass with his black tongue while the rhino continued to pound. i tried to pull my camera phone out but the elephant took it away and stuck it up the baby elephant's snout, which coincidentally when it was stuck up there the baby accidentally dialed all of my ex girlfriends and told them the animals all fucked me better than they did. and there you go

I was hoping that the Cavs would keep fouling more and more people out until it was just Lebron out there with four random guys.

Billy D off to the magic!

Bigworm on Friday, June 01, 2007 at 7:50 AM

Phil - did you see that game last night? I keep reading that LeBron turned in one hell of a performance and they are saying one of the best playoff performaces ever. What was your take?

Phil on Friday, June 01, 2007 at 8:46 AM

No one besides Lebron scored for 18 minutes for the Cavs at the end of the game. And very few of them actually shot the ball either. Here's a summary of the Cavs offense:

Fat dude sets high screen for Lebron
Lebron shoots 23 foot jumper with hand in his face
Repeat as needed

This happened so many times that when Lebron drove on the entire Pistons team and made a layup to go up at the end of the game (with two guys hanging on his arms, mind you) that I was shocked not to see a high screen. The Pistons must have been shocked too because no one rotated into the lane until it was too late.

I'm not sure too many people in the history of the NBA could have done what the Lebron was doing last night. He was basically going 2 on 5 (Lebron and dude setting screen for Lebron) every play for 18 minutes. The Pistons where double teaming him, trapping him at half court and not even caring about the other guys on the court because they knew exactly what was going to happen. And they just could not stop him.

It was pretty damn amazing to see, but you have to wonder about the Cavs coaches if the best they can come up with for a play when Lebron is being double teamed over and over 30 feet from the basket is "fuck it, let Lebron take a fade away 3."

Jay on Friday, June 01, 2007 at 8:49 AM

that game was crazy. i agree with phil's assessment. I couldn't believe how easily (or at least he made it look easy) LeBron was taking it to the whole in crucial situations. he basically said "I'm going straight to the hole and I'm going to dunk and you, Tayshaun Prince (or insert other Pistons player name here), can't stop me.

I haven't been a big Lebron fan, but he pretty much beat the Pistons by himself last night. It was the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. You knew he was going to come down and shoot it, and no-one could stop him. I used to watch Jordan take over games, but Jordan involved his teamates to some degree. Hey Wes, what's the word on the Louisville/UK game being on TV? The quote from Brooks regarding UK not wanting TV exposure doesn't exactly instill confidence that Barnhart is going to push to get someone to pick it up.
http://www.kentucky.com/269/story/86480.html

There is mention that some think Barnhart is going to block everyone from broadcasting the game live and Brooks quote seems to back it up. And not just the national networks, but also WHAS if they try to get the rights to the game to broadcast it.

Gay.

Brent on Sunday, June 03, 2007 at 6:03 PM

What the fuck is wrong with Barnhart? First being a pussy on the scheduling with UofL, than canceling the UMASS game at the last minute, now back to football with network coverage. Geez, I don't care if UK loses a few games, Im used to it but stop embarrassing the program and the fans by all these shenanigans.

Nice, Douglas. I saw "Knocked Up" this weekend. It was really funny.

Barry on Sunday, June 03, 2007 at 10:37 PM

wow, i smell fear. brooks sounds like he thinks UK won't win the game and doesn't want a nationally televised ass-whoopin. That has to instill confidence in his players.
UK player:"But coach wouldn't we want everyone see us beat the cardinals' asses? Wouldn't that be good for recruiting in and out of state? Might that help us get into a really good bowl game if the bowl sponsors get to watch us play and beat Loserville? Might our fans and alumni across the country want to see their team stomp their rival?"
Brooks: "No guys, none of that really matters."
Wow!

Phil on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 1:24 AM

So now Donovan wants to return to Florida?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Marc on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 6:56 AM

Yup, Knocked Up was a hilarious movie. I liked the couple of cameo (or roles) for people who were in the short-lived tv show Undeclared that Seth Rogen was in and created by Judd Apatow. 40 Year Old Virgin had a few different people form the same show scattered around. (Like two-suck girl.)

Bigworm on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 7:55 AM

Maybe they just want to control the rights to whoever gets it, you know like eventually it will come down to the highest bidder thing or maybe Barnhart is doing that to get back at Jurich for basically kicking UK out of Freedom Hall ala the Indiana Game. Jurich has been trying to get UK out of his city for years, maybe UK just doesn't want to give them anything to help them build their program with. I have no clue.

Bigworm on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 7:58 AM

And Billy D needs to stay at Florida simply because I want to go down there and kick his ass like UK use to do routinely. He did build a special thing down there, however, Billy Clyde is going to right the ship and Camelot will be restored.

The empire always strikes back!

Jay on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 8:38 AM

Bigworm on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 11:24 AM

Billy Clyde is what his momma calls him so many fans have adopted that name. Another acronym is CBC or Coach Billy Clyde.

Bigworm on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 11:26 AM

Brock that is genius. I have a pretty high credit score, something like 790 so I should consider gaining some extra cash.

Barry on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 12:34 PM

another part of the brooks thing that kills me is his "get a life" statement. If you're concerned about watching your team play your rival and you can't go to the game (money, travel, whatever) you need to get a life. To the other hundreds of thousands of UK fans that can't go to the game and will be upset if they can't watch arguably the biggest game of the year in the bluegrass state Rich Brooks says "get a life." That's awesome...and by awesome I mean horrible.

Jay on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 12:39 PM

I think the grenade toss is a nice touch

Phil on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 2:27 PM

According to the gametracker, Louisville is up 8-0 over Missouri.

In the first inning.

Phil on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 2:31 PM

You might have to cut and paste this link, but it is wellllllll worth it.

A follow up to Brent's protest link:

Phil on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 2:49 PM

Well, the cards gave up 5 in the second inning. I think they are up to something like their 9th pitcher

Brock on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 3:02 PM

shit, dominguez just homered again. 12-5 cards in the bottom of the 4th

Brock on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 3:51 PM

That dude is rockin' them. It would be kind of awesome if Vandy is still playing in the super-regionals when I move down there.

Phil on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 4:24 PM

16-6 Cards

Phil on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 5:05 PM

Louisville heads to the super regionals. Now "all" they need to do is beat Oklahoma State in a 2 of 3 contest and it is on to Omaha

Phil on Monday, June 04, 2007 at 5:22 PM

Louisville might even host the Super Regional games because OK State was also a 3 seed. It'll be announced tonight at 11pm

Speaking of which, I got a random call Saturday night from Joe Sietz (good buddy of my cousin Jason) saying that the band he's with way playing a free show up at Southgate House in Newport, so I swung by. The band is called Wax Fang and low-and-behold Jake Huestis was the bassist. Dude has Rob Zombie style hair now, but they were pretty good. That opinion my be slanted since they gave me free beer during the show.

http://waxfang.com/

I think I introduced Jay to Joe one time at O'Sheas about a year or so ago since he was looking for a band. What could have been...

Brock on Tuesday, June 05, 2007 at 4:02 PM

Also, Jake brought up the legend of the "ROAR" dating back to the grade school days....

I'd like to think the roar has evolved into something a little more existential now.

Phil on Tuesday, June 05, 2007 at 5:00 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only weirdo - from the Sports Guy today:
"I doubt you caught the Reebok Grand Prix on CBS this past Sunday. Track and field is only exciting every four years for the Olympics -- except when Gus Johnson takes the helm. I watched him call the 110-meter hurdles for some guy named Liu Xiang (apparently the best hurdler in the world). Gu-Jo got me on my feet and the race lasted only 13 seconds. Just another example of how CBS has the X-Factor over the other networks when it comes to sports telecasts."

I don't have audio so I can't tell if Gus Johnson is on this video or not, but here's a clip of the race:

I believe Tiffany's roommate works at a place that prints t-shirts. It could be easier, and might be able to express our vision better than the last attempt at BUSM t-shirts. (where Vogue Theater and St Matthews landscapes = genaeric city skyline; and mushroom cloud = happy fluffy cloud). If we did coozies, I assume you mean the beer bottle coozies, because besides the tall-can at my b-day (that I never got to) when is the last time we drank cans?

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 06, 2007 at 9:36 PM

How about the last time I was at Joe's two weeks ago. PBR in cans amigo!

joe on Wednesday, June 06, 2007 at 9:42 PM

yes, they found a body in the woods behind the ballpark while I was umpiring tonight. All I can say is that is the last time a coach will fuck with an umpire. Actually, rumor is it is the 16 year old shelby county girl who has been missing for a few days. It all took place during my games. Helicopters were flying around and no one nknew what was going on and rumor was a dead body was found or a convict was on the loose or both. I felt safe. Last word I heard her boyfriend offed her and dumped her in the woods.

On a positive note, thirsty thursday at the bats, anyone want to go.

joe on Wednesday, June 06, 2007 at 9:45 PM

yep, those pics were taken at st. matthews little league during my games. My umpire gear is not made of kevlar. I like how they specified that the area is not in danger. A dead body is not enough to cancel little league. Baseball is awesome.

Joe where is the ballpark located at? If you read the article, someone says that area isn't safe for young kids walking around...is this true?

Phil on Wednesday, June 06, 2007 at 11:36 PM

The park in question is the one behind Ten Pins, if I recall correctly. It's a perfectly safe park - my mom goes walking down that trail almost every night. She's actually been out of town since Sunday - otherwise I wonder if she would have found the body...

joe on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 6:57 AM

Phil is right, perfectly safe. It was probably the douchebag league president that I have nearly thrown out of a game that made it sound that way. The tv clips had interviews with him sounding like the woods are full of child molesters and convicts. I wouldn't be suprised if he was the child molester. If you can't tell I really don't like the guy.

Need help choosing a Presidential Candidate?

http://www.speakout.com/VoteMatch/S...te2006.asp#sec0

My top 5 is:
1) 50% - Barack Obama (D)
2) 50% - Bill Richardson (D)
3) 48% - Hillary Clinton (D)
4) 48% - John McCain (R)
5) 48% - Tommy Thompson

adrian on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 10:12 AM

Marc on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 10:25 AM

My Top Five:
1) 63% - Joe Biden (D)
2) 60% - Barack Obama (D)
2.5) 55% - Mike Gravel (D) <--Don't know who this is, so doesn't count
4) 55% - Dennis Kucinich (D)
4) 55% - Hillary Clinton (D)
5) 53% - John Edwards (D)

Phil on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 10:31 AM

You don't know who Mike Gravel is? He's one of the more interesting guys.

But I'm tempted to change my affiliation to Republican so I can vote for Ron Paul.

Marc on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 10:34 AM

My Fantasy Top Five:
1) 92% - Jack Bauer (CTU)
2) 91% - Barney Stenson (Awesome Party)
3) 87% - Dave (Kevin Kline movie)
4) 82% - Aragon (NOT Eragon. Only Foreign-born candidate)
5) 72% - Harrison Ford in Air Force One ("Get off my Ballot!")

Ron Paul is smarter on Iraq than the other Republican's. But he used to be Libertarian. He is more to the right than most running. Look at his stances any issues before choosing anyone. I think he's cool to, but I'm not voting for him.

Phil on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 10:36 AM

Maybe I should just volunteer for the guy. I certainly don't want him to win (I think he was at like 20% for me), but he's the only republican not saying:

1) I'm like Reagan
2) 9/11
3) 9/11
4) Support our Troops
5) Reagan/11

Phil - I haven't watched your video yet but didn't Mike Gravel tell Americans that they need to grow up (in response to being asked about how he would deal with the rising cost of gas prices?) and the prices aren't high enough? If so, I like that guy.

Brock on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 10:48 AM

Weird, my top 3 choices were (R) candidates and then Bill Richardson.... and I thought my lefty social views would throw some (D) in there. I guess strongly supporting the death penalty hurt that though.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 10:50 AM

Tiffany on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 10:54 AM

1) 68% Dennis Kucinich
2) 60% Mike Gravel

July 22 intel price cuts...

http://www.techpowerup.com/img/07-05-15/Inte.jpg

The E6850 and Q6600 will be great buys for 266 clams. Both of these processors will be good for video editing, gaming, and just overall general computing (firefox and porn).

The q6600 is a quad core and the e6850 is dual core.

Phil on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 3:27 PM

I have a Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 (1033Mhz FSB) and that bitch hauls ass. It easily overclocked on up to 3.0GHz. The E6850 (or even just the E6750) will probably be what I build my next PC around.

I'm still hessitant on the quad core though. Most PC performance issues are bus limited, so there isn't much to gain from going quad core. I'd rather have two dual core chips if I needed the processing. We sell a quad core server, but we only do that because licensing is done per processor, not per core so it can save people money.

NERDS!

Brock on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 3:44 PM

Nerdy, but useful... because your average PC consumer (myself included) would just assume quad-core would be better.

So by increasing the phyiscal number of processors, you can increase your bus speeds? I've always been a little confused on that part.

Marc on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 4:11 PM

Since you all are being nerdy today. Here is a cool video of how to make INSTANT HOT ICE. Pretty cool. Could be a cool party trick to get the ladies in the mood before the run away crying from Joe's room (whether he is sleep-nailing them or not).
http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles...nt_Hot_Ice.html

Phil on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 4:20 PM

The bus speeds are the same, but the difference is you have two "buses".

Each core is like a car. Each "bus" is like a street. With four cores you can zip right along no problem, but all four will have to share the same bus so it does become a bottleneck. With two processes, both dual core, then you have two processors each on two cores, which reduces your bottleneck.

Still, it isn't a big deal for most people. I have a a Dual Core processor and I am currently running:

Three instances of Visual Studio 2005
Photoshop CS2
Firefox
IE 7
Opera
Outlook 2007
Word 2007
A collection of general utilities

My computer is bored processing that.

Marc on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at 4:27 PM

Furthermore, on a nerdy note. Cool new imaging technology from MS.

Marc on Friday, June 08, 2007 at 4:13 PM

You know commenting on the fact that no one is posting doesn't really count as contributing. This is not just something for you to read. It is something to contribute to. If you contribute something more than, "Wow, the site is dead today." Then maybe people can have a jumping off point to talk about something and even make fun of you for, which is good for others. With that being said... This site is dead.

Maybe Just Like Joe should practice or play an open mic before BUSM. Its been a while. I say we play some of the new stuff, mostly the old.

Shit, I wish I would have seen your post earlier Chris - I just finished up getting a new tube into my bike. I need to get out on those trails with someone because lord knows I don't know where I'm going.

One day I managed to get turned around on the wilderness loop while the Papa Johns team was practicing for the 13 Hours of Fleur de Lis bike race. They were going one way, I was going the other way. I ended up smashing my balls as I tried to get out of the way of those fuckers as they were absolutely flying through the wilderness loop and I was trying not to hit a tree with my face.

Yeah...I'm retarded.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:03 PM

how many fucking guys does OK State have in their bullpen?

I'm not watching the game, but I assume their bullpen car is very similiar to a clown car.

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:10 PM

pitcher #7 for the game. Assuming UL wins they play Rice in the first game of the World series teh radio just said. Funny thing I am sitting here listening to the game watching the Oregon State game, I chose not to wear the Oregon State hat today because it looks too similar to Ok State so I chose the Rice hat with my UL shirt. Maybe I should put the Rice hat away for a while.

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:11 PM

OK state used their ss to pitch yesterday

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:12 PM

The OSU announcers (the only audio I can find) have turned to mocking the Cardinal crowd calling them "a bunch of football fans" who decided to support the baseball team now that they are doing well.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:14 PM

Dude, the OK State SS was about a billion times better than these chumps they have pitching right now.

They don't even have pictures next to their names on the CSTV Gametracker. How many pitchers does a college team carry? 20?

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:16 PM

I'd say about 10 guys can pitch. The OSU announcers are right, it is a bunch of basketball fans who hopped on the football bandwagon and now the baseball bandwagon. I've got on AM 1450, they just flashed on the game on split screen and ESPNHD is way behind the radio.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:17 PM

OSU announcers are also big fans of knocking the field. Apparently this is the only reason Louisville is up 10 runs.

I will admit a non-dirt batters box and infield is a bit...odd

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:18 PM

Oregon State - Michigan is 0-0 in the 9th and the Michigan guy has a no no going.

the UL pitcher is a Ballard boy. I bet he was better then B-mac.

Radio just said OK state has 5 pitchers left.

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:21 PM

speaking of ugly fields, Witchita State lost, they have an astro turf infield with grass outfield. Oregon state is identical to UL but with dirt plate and dirt mound the rest is like UL.

UL just had their 3rd balk.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:23 PM

The left handed Louisville pitchers seem to be "balkish" on most of their moves to first. I wonder if the coaches decided "fuck it, let's see what we can get away with"

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:23 PM

Phil, if were still listening to that balk they just took away, a balk is a delayed dead ball and you get the option of taking the better of the balk or the outcome of the play.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:27 PM

Ah, I just saw the game tracker updates. I couldn't handle the OSU guys announcing anymore.

adrian on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:28 PM

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:29 PM

Lead off batter has reached in all five innings for the Cards, I believe.

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:30 PM

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:31 PM

13-2, 0 outs, first 3 guys got on in the 5th

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:32 PM

Hey Joe, try ESPN360.com. The game is on their.

It won't let me on because my ISP doesn't support it. Of course, we are our ISP.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:32 PM

fuck, "there"

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:36 PM

new pitcher. 8 down 4 to go. no pitcher for OK state has lasted over an inning. Oregon State Beavers just won game one of their series.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:39 PM

Does it count as a sacrifice fly if you foul out?

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:39 PM

funny thing about Omaha bound UC Irvine. Nickname the Anteaters. Coach doesn't allow long hair except for 1 guy. Coach told him to get a haircut at the beginning of the season so the guy got an appointment to get it done. He set it up for a salon in Omaha the day after the world series. Coach let him keep it.

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:41 PM

yes. However, I believe it is only a sac fly if a run scores. If you fly out and a guy goes from 2nd to 3rd it isn't a sac fly.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:56 PM

I like that guys style. UC Irvine is the other school, assuming Louisville doesn't give up two touchdowns here in the last third of the game, that made it to the CWS for the first time, right?

That takes some big...huevos.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:59 PM

That reminds me of this exchange from Without Limits:

Coach Bowerman: Nobody on the team will have hair longer than his dick...which means everybody gets a haircut, except Bob.
Pre: Why except Bob?
Coach Bowerman: God's will, Steve.
Pre: God's will?
Coach Bowerman: lt's just below his kneecap.
Pre: Way to go, Bob!

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 7:02 PM

yep, this is the anteaters first trip

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 7:19 PM

2 outs in the 8th and the fans are chanting Omaha. How many of these fans new the World Series was in Omaha before this week?

Completely different note, Fox is starting season 2 of "the loop" tonight. I figured they cancelled that show.

Phil on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 7:23 PM

I think even the most retarded of sports fans know the College World Series is in Omaha. Now, how many people know the names of any of the players, well, that's a different story.

for those that know jay pitts, his little brother zak got drafted the other day in like the 30th round by the washington nationals, for those that don't know him, he's the big east pitcher of the year, he won the first game against ok st. 9-0.

joe on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 8:20 PM

funny story. I just ran up to the store to pick something up wearing a UL shirt and hat and some athletic shorts and some old guy walked up to me and said congratulations. Confused I said thanks. He asked when I leave for Omaha. I stold him my playing days are done. He said "you just get off the field? You look like a ball player." Apparently an hour after the game ended at Kroger is a good place to find ball players.

Is Rice supposedly the best team in the college world series? I know Cal State is pretty good every year.

Phil on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 10:48 AM

Rice went in as the #2 team, but now that Vandy is out they are the #1 squad

Phil on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 10:55 AM

So, if the Cards beat Rice and LBSU beats UC Irvine in the American Southwestern Division East Northern, then Louisville goes to the CWS, unless UNC can upset Cal State Fullerton and Miss St ties Arizona, then Oakland would play Michigan and Oregon State in a blind choice round robin. And if no clear winner emerges from all of this, a two-man sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a champion can be crowned.

Bigworm on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 11:39 AM

It does remind me of the Bash.org quote where a guy claimed to take a box of condoms up to the register and then acts like he can't afford it, and then tells the cashier to hold on a bit, and then returns with a box of ziplock baggies and rubber bands.

And on a different note, guy who sells cell phones for a living owns all at "Britain's Got Talent":

Brent on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 8:24 AM

Looks like a pretty sweet bike, the only thing I would be a slight worried about is, it looks like a racing bike, which means its going to be a little uncomfortable, those puppies are built for speed not comfort, you know. All the components look tip top (105's like I thought). I would go to a bike shop and try out a couple bikes, get on one that's built for racing and then get on one that's made for riding and you can feel the difference.

Jay on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 8:46 AM

What day are you moving, Brock?

Phil on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 9:33 AM

Well, the obvious goal of this bike is to eventually enter those dualathalons. I'm fine with sacrificing comfort for speed (that's what she said).

Any opinions on carbon fiber vs aluminum frames?

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 9:54 AM

Carbon fiber are lighter, therefore, requires less energy for you to travel the same distance and can travel at a higher speed.

Good for you Philco, whenever, I can afford to buy me a road bike that was my plan as well. Of course, I feel that I still need to drop more weight till I can get into some spandex and not be so scary.

adrian on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 10:10 AM

Carbon fiber bikes are nice but not neccessary. There are aluminum bikes that are almost as light and once you add all of the components to the frame the lightness goes away. I looked at a Cannondale r900 aluminum frame bike and when i picked it felt just as light as my friends carbon framed cannondale.

adrian on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 10:15 AM

But if i had my choice i would like to have a carbon bike. The one i looked at was a cannondale that was around 3000.00. I personally cant justify spending that kind of money on a bike because for one I don't have that kind of money.

Phil on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 10:47 AM

I'm not too concerned with the weight itself. I think both bikes will end up weighing around 18.5lbs.

The big things I'm reading about Carbon vs Aluminum bikes:
Carbon absorbs the bumps on the road much better, but some feel it also absorbs some of your energy as you pedal. Aluminum (along with steel and titanium bikes) are more responsive but won't absorb the road as well.

But carbon bikes also have a knock against them as being a little frail. I remember when lance armstrong's bike failed on him, and many blamed it on his new carbon frame.

Decisions, decisions...

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 10:55 AM

Philco, of course one thing you could do is go with the aluminum frame and carbon forks.

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 10:59 AM

That would allow for the sturdiness of the aluminum frame and the carbon forks would absorb some of the road impact. Just a thought.

Phil on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 11:38 AM

Either a Giant or a BMC because I can get them at cost

Brent on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 12:14 PM

Your worrying about bumps in the road but are ok with your overall ride being uncomfortable. Remember when you race you are going to be tucked, however, when you are riding you are usually sitting upright on the hoods. IMO, I would worry a lot more about getting a bike that is comfortable to ride for a few hours then absorbing the bumps on the road, because speed you're probably never going to have, truly.

Brent on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 12:19 PM

When you get your new bike, asked those guys to throw in some wheels for your mountain bike so you can ride it as a commuter to work.

I thought about getting some 700c tires for my mountain bike too, but I usually try to hit the trails three or four times a week so I wasn't too sure about how tough it would be to swap out a tire more for going to work and back, and one for the trails.

Wrecking Crew on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 3:12 PM

Anybody realize Rick Ankiel was still trolling around the minors with the Cards? Triple-A starting outfielder for the Pacific Coast League. Anyway the funny thing was on AM Jump on Page 2... The homer left Bonds eight short of tying Hank Aaron's record. It also upped Bonds' home run total to 13 for the season, just two below Rick Ankiel's total of 15 bombs at Triple-A Memphis in the Pacific Coast League. With the Cardinals last in the majors in runs per game and in dire need of an offensive boost, Ankiel could earn a call-up this season -- maybe even as soon as the Cards-Giants series July 6-8 in St. Louis. If that happened, the first reporter to ask Bonds what it's like to trail a converted pitcher in homers would immediately win my vote for awesomest human ever.

Rick Ankiel in the minors is old news, he spent a lot of the time on the DL last year and almost made the club in spring training.

As for Amanda Beard, already seen the pics. To artsy. No full frontal. I don't even think they showed both boobs in the same pic, only one nipple at a time. Yes, she has a smoking hot bod, but playboy is turning gay and about the art. Instead she should have been in Hustler doing something awesome, at least showing 2 boobs at once or a little cooch. UK might hit really big soon too.

Dakota Euton, a top 10 2010 kid should get an offer and is expected to accept it around the end of the month. UK is recruiting him against Duke and UF.

DeMarcus Cousin - arguably the #1 player in 2009 and definately top 3 was blown away by the UK facilities and Coach Gillispie while attending the UK Elite Campover the weekend. And word on the street be he is a big time UK fan. ;)

I am just going to say that I like my chances with these kids.

Dakota will be special if he continues to develop (unlike Adam Williams) and DeMarcus Cousin is a 6'10 235 pound beast that can step out and knock down the 3 or throw it down in your face.

Phil on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 1:24 PM

Brent, here's my recon from o'shea's.

Typically events run either from 6 or 7 to 10pm. They can't keep the public out after that, but they don't kick you out either and you generally have the run of the place to the point that it doesn't matter. Custom food orders are needed within 2 weeks, and there is no rent. They just ask that you spend $200 amongst the group in the 4 hour period.

You just need to call up there and talk to Paige. Tell her Large Marge sent ya.

Word on the street is that Barnhart has declined ESPN2's offer to broadcast the Louisville vs UK game and won't pursue local broadcasting either. And according to SEC rules, WHAS won't be able to broadcast the game live either because another SEC game will be played at the same time.

The U of L sid has said that there's a good chance the game won't be broadcast at all this year.

adrian on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 7:06 PM

I don't think cannondale or specialized make bikes between 300 - 500. Specilaized make very very very good mountain bikes but you have to pay an arm and a leg for them. I am not familiar with trek or gary.

Phil on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 7:41 PM

I assume Trek has some pretty decent frames for around $500. They sell so many bikes at that price point that they probably own their own fabrication plant for putting the bikes together.

The Trek 4300 looks like a pretty solid bike for $370, and you can use the left over money to tweak some of the components.

Marc on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 7:47 PM

So I just left the Bellarmine parking lot in front of Horrigan Hall, and saw two guys Saran-Wrap-ping a car. It made me laugh. They were going around the length of the car, so I stop and suggested they also go around by bottom-to-top. They said they had it covered. To bad it's warm out and won't ice over too.

Sorry Brock. But its still funny.

Phil on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 7:48 PM

Oh and Brent, what's the difference between the bike I was talking about and your bike? I thought you were suggesting I get something like the Trek Pilot

Brent on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 8:57 PM

The first thing I noticed was the seat to handle ratio, high seat low handles, then the sloping top tube which made it look more compact. After looking at a picture of my bike, I think all the pics show the seat high and handles low, just because the bike looks more sleek in that fashion. I could be totally wrong about that bike, but it sure does resemble a bike I tried at St. Matthews Schwinn and the guy told me that bike was meant for people serious about racing.

After reading the reviews of your bike, people are spewing on themselves about it, so Im sure its a good investment but the one thing that resounds in the endorsements is the stiffness and roughness of the ride. However, all of them talk about how fast it is too...keep in mind these guys are hard core cyclists.

http://www.roadbikereview.com/cat/l...rx.aspx#reviews

Brent on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 9:05 PM

Im sending the components to my resident specialist, I'll tell you what she thinks of the bike. Same girl who clocked 60+ mph on a road bike, passing cars on Pike's Peak.

Phil on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 10:29 PM

Yeah, I'm a bit torn on the whole thing. I think you are right on the sloping top tube and all that - it is designed for people that want to do some racing. But the road bike review place seems to put this bike in the "good trainer" section which is what I want to use it for.

I'm not really looking for a leisurely ride - I can use my mountain bike for that. I want to push myself and shit. The generally reviews on this bike are "great value for the price, not for people looking to do stuff like touring." But I'll certainly be bent the fuck over on that thing.

Phil on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 10:29 PM

just curious, what's your resident specialist's first name?

Bigworm on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 1:24 AM

What can I say, Barnhart just follows the rules set forth by the SEC conference. Not much he can with his hands tied like they are.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 1:34 AM

The way I see it is UK is just scared that UofL is going to blow them out 100-0 at home so they don't want the world to watch. That is just my guess.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 1:47 AM

I have a Trek 4900 and I am pretty happy with it. Sure they are mass produced, but there probably isn't another bike in that $600 dollar range with as much bang for your buck that is a pretty solid bike than that one.

I bought that one because the guy at Schellers told me when his friends come in this is where he starts them at. I figured that was good enough for me and that fact that I am fat.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the infamous Seinfeldian incident:

NEWMAN: June 14, 1987.... Mets Phillies. We're enjoying a beautiful afternoon in the right field stands when a crucial Hernandez error opens the door to a five run Phillies ninth. Cost the Mets the game.

KRAMER: Our day was ruined. There was a lot of people, you know they were waiting by the player's parking lot. Now we're coming down the ramp ... Newman was in front of me. Hernandez was coming toward us, as he passes Newman turns and says, " Nice game pretty boy." Keith continued past us up the ramp.

NEWMAN: Then a second later, something happened that changed us in a deep and profound way front that day forward.

ELAINE: What was it?

KRAMER: He spit on us.... and I screamed out, "I'M HIT!"

NEWMAN: Then I turned and the spit ricochet of him and it hit me.

ELAINE: Wow, what a story.

JERRY: Unfortunately the immutable laws of physics contradict the whole premise of your account.
Allow me to reconstruct this if I may for Miss Benes as I've heard this story a number of times.
Newman, Kramer, if you'll indulge me.
According to your story Hernandez passes you and starts walking up the ramp.
Then you say you were struck on the right temple.
The spit then proceeds to ricochet off the temple striking Newman between the third and forth rib.
The spit then came off the rib made a right turn hitting Newman in the right wrist causing him to drop his baseball cap.
The spit then splashed off the wrist, Pauses... In mid air mind you...
Makes a left turn, and lands on Newman's left thigh.
That is one magic loogey.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 9:23 AM

This is the response I got from the UK board on:

A) UK vs. IU at freedom hall - what was the deal?
UofL had mens and women's games scheduled the weekends the UK and IU were to play, if you are talking last year. ul had home games scheduled every weekend in Dec. last year, coincidence?

B) UK and UofL not being on TV what is the situation? I have seen nothing that says Barnhart turned down ESPN2, but UofL fans bring it up. I don't think Mitch could turn it down even if he wanted to, which sounds outlandish to start with.

So basically, everything is coincidence and rumors on UK vs. IU at Freedom Hall and UK vs. UofL not being on TV.

Phil on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 9:24 AM

This was per the U of L sid

Phil on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 9:40 AM

i take that back, I went and found the original discussion and the u of l sid did not say that barnhart declined to have it broadcast. He merely confirmed there is a great chance the game would not be on TV.

I was probably assuming that ESPN had contacted UK about this game because every Louisville road game in the past four or five years has been broadcast live either by ESPN or WHAS/WDRB.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 10:05 AM

The reasoning was since the game was no longer first on the schedule other SEC teams will be playing games and as already mentioned SEC broadcasting rights contractual bonds will not allow for locals to pick it up, unless they pay for the rights, unless there is a buy out clause.

Those two bikes look pretty damn solid. The reviews at mtbr aren't glowing, but I think that's because you jump into that price range where you start getting the more "serious" riders who are reviewing the bikes like they'd review a $2000 bike.

But the 4300 and the 4900 look to be pretty solid frames as long as you aren't doing any 6' drops or anything retarded. Plus they seem to be easily upgraded if you so desire

Brock on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 11:11 AM

I have a Trek too, and the only complain is the weight and the rims. The weight isn't such a big deal if its trails, but if you are on the road and going up a hill, you notice. The rims get out of true rather quickly when on trails... but thats with the caveat that I'm fat, I bunny-hop as much as possible on trails, and I also rode it across rocks and water of the Great Miami River.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 11:45 AM

My bike is very solid. I was near 250 pounds when I first got mine and it has held fine.

New response to UK and UofL football game about Mitch rejecting ESPN2 rumor.

"Is that what they are saying in Megalomanialand? Talk about delusional. The game was moved because UK wants to play a few games before playing our in-state rivalry. UofL is pissed because they depend on TV $$$ to support their program. UK doesn't have to worry about TV $$$ as much. There's still a chance (dwindling as it may be) that it will be picked up on TV, but UK is doing what is best for UK."

Brock on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 12:44 PM

"UK is doing what is best for UK"

Appearing as though they are afraid to get blown out on national television is best for the program? I think this whole mess looks worse for the program.

Any program in America: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida, Western KY, SW Idaho St wants to be on national television as often as possible. Any excuse otherwise is just ignorant. Recruiting is dependent on national exposure no matter who you are, and if the only people who can see you play are the ones in the stadium, then you're hurting the future.

Can anyone find a link where the Dad scares the crap out of his son with a chainsaw, he wakes them up from sleep and the son jumps up and screams, "What's a matter with you?"

Bigworm on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 2:03 PM

Brock - ESPN2 never offered to carry the game, that was simply not true. UK is doing what is best for UK by not playing the game the first game of the season just to be on TV. UK is moving the game to be more competitive, and that is what is best for UK. Other than that, it will be hard to get on TV due to not violating the SEC broadcasting rights contract.

So, like the Freedom Hall situation, scheduling is what it is and really there is no other way around it, unless someone ponies up some big time cash to buy the rights to the game.

So I keep the streak alive. Three times I have been on the trail and 3 crashes. You guys are going to have to talk to Burket about how spectacular this crash was, once again over top of the handle bars laying flat on my back with my bike on me. Next to me was a log that probably had a diameter around eighteen inches that I missed, barely....fucking fantastic! It was so awesome that I layed there for about 10 seconds or so to wait for the pain. I just knew that I broke something, however, much to my delight I was pain free. Tomorrow will be sore as fuck though.

I actually broke my chain today (well 1/2 way broke it).

Joe - I fully endorse my bike for something that can take abuse. I have crashed hard twice (the other time I just hit that tree so not to bad) and the only thing that I fucked up was my chain.

Shit, I just got your message Wes. I would have loved to have gone out last night AND I missed your endo.

Damn it

Bigworm on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 10:14 AM

It was an endo followed by a front flip and some kind of 1/2 twist.

Bigworm on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 10:19 AM

Well, first things first. I noticed my handlebars were loose and I think my seat is too high because my weight is not properly distributed on my because I cannot lean back while doing down hills or that kind of shit.

Anyways, back to the story....my handlebars were moving up everytime I hit a small bump (due to my weight leaning forward and where the weight is distributed on my handlebar) so I was figting with pulling them back down on every single bump on the trail. As such I was trying to fix my handlebars while entering a small double drop off maybe about 2 feet total in height on the trail that had some roots sticking up on the first plateu, and after landing you had a turn at the foot of this drop off. Basically I was off balanced thought I had the turn, but never really had my bike so over the handlebars I went.

Louisville up 1-0 at the top of the second.

Rodriguez just got a base hit to lead off the inning, and they advanced him to second on a bunt. Rodriguez just took third on on a pitch in the dirt.

Louisville 2-0 with two outs.

Louisville still up 2-0 going into the top of the third with the 2,3 and 4 hitters coming up

Rich O's is an odd place. I went a couple of years ago. Half of it was like a Mr. Gatti's, but with lots of beer. The other half was like Outlook, but smokier and with old people. Of course, I think I went on like a Wednesday. They do have quite a bit of different beers, and someone told me that if you come during the day they'll give you a tour of the brewery and the dude that runs it is pretty cool.

I do remember that if you go, their sign says "Public House", not Rich O's which confused and scared me.

joe on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 8:12 PM

Funny story, the regular season of umpiring ended and the rumor that the umpires not coming back spread. Apparently they like me at the ballpark because I was requested by the league to do all the championship games today (because I'm awesome and the moms think I'm hot) but coaches and league officials were asking what it will take to get us back. We had our serious list of demands (straight cash homey (no 1099s because taxes suck, no softball because softball sucks, and free food), but then this one coach that is awesome confronted me with his offer. "What kind of women and beer do you want? I got you." Umpiring for beer and women, BRILLIANT! Of course I responded "you can't afford my beer tab." There is a rumor of a coaches vs. umpires softball game (excuse to drink) at the end of the summer that we might be going head to head on (drinking that is) because he thinks he is still a young hot shot that can keep up with me. I said " I drink because I can, you drink because your wife isn't around."

Wes, You are correct about a tour of Rich O's bar. It is pretty cool to see. For my MBA project, my group designed a business plan to open a brewery and Roger ( the owner of Rich O's) was one of our consultants. You can get some pretty nice single speed bikes. Cannondale and Trek both offer some decent ones.

Here's cannondales:
http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/06/...odel-6FSSS.html

Single speed bikes don't seem to be much of a beginner bike. Seems like an odd choice for a first time bike. They seem to be popular with the hardcore bikers and the crazy bike messengers. The New York Times had an article on them a couple of months ago:

Jay on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 8:50 AM

We were sent an email about earthquake saftey. The guy writing it is not very literate. There was a great number of minor mistakes, but this phrase was my favorite:

The Department already understands that the phone system and cell towers will be down or damage. What the system that will stay be working will be jammed.

I don't know what the hell he was trying to say. I almost thought Marc wrote it. All I can say is "All your base are belong to us"

adrian on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 9:27 AM

I bet Marc understood that sentence perfectly.

This place is dead today. Some of you all got my email today, but to repeat myself for those who didn't, I was listening to 95.7 WQMF today and I heard Pearl Jam, Guns n Roses and Nirvana which I have been hearing there for a while. What killed me was hearing Live "I alone" on 95.7. I was pissed. To top things off a few hours later I heard Collective Soul "Heaven let your light shine down". I jokingly said when I heard lieve "what is next collective soul"? Yesterday I heard Green Day. What the fuck. That is bullshit. What is classic rock?

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 5:18 PM

Jay/Marc - what time are you guys showing up at Highlands Tap Room tonight?

joe on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 5:20 PM

That was a good clip. Who all is going up to the tap room tonight?

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 5:20 PM

I am heading up there for sure. I think they usually play around 11 or so, last time I was up there around 10.

joe on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 5:23 PM

What time are they usually done playing?

adrian on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 6:07 PM

i just found out that the chick that i will be sharing a cube with plays dungeons & dragons and everquest.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 6:19 PM

Joe - that depends on what time they get on. They are usually done around midnight if not a little before.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 6:23 PM

Hell, I think they do only a few songs, maybe 20 minute set or something...Marc and Jay would know better than me.

Marc on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 6:34 PM

We usually do about 6 songs. We tend to get there around 10, it starts at 11. We get there early to try and get a earlier spot. But you can get there whenever, Usually the band that sponsors the open mic, goes on first and plays around 8 songs. So the earliest we usually start is around 11:30-11:40. But the sponsoring band, The Fuck Monkeys, actually have some good and very funny songs. Topics of their songs include: Masturbation (including auto-erotic exfixiation), having low standards picking up women, a funny "educational" song, and others.

(NOTE: I know they generally started at 11, because their bassist would be in the back of the bar watching LOST. Now that LOST is done for the summer, I have no idea if that effects the starting time.)

Jay just called so he is heading over hear to practice. It's been a while, but we will do our best to put on a good show for all those who make it there tonight.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 6:42 PM

Marc, are you guys performing "yeah"?

joe on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 7:57 PM

wes, so you going? I'm tempted to.

joe on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 9:19 PM

womens basketball gets 15 scholarships while men get 13 and baseball gets 11 and a half. that is retarded. Basketball plays 5 people and dress maybe 10. Practice players are getting full rides while starters on a baseball team are only getting a partial scholarship. Ridiculous.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 9:31 AM

Jay/Marc - you guys did well last night and "dot dot dot" is an awesome song!

My only critique is you guys should have done something different sounding than everybody else, which is why we were advocating for "Yeah". Bring some hip hop flavor to your set because nobody else is doing it and grab their attention.

Cuban on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 9:54 AM

I agree with Wes. "dot dot dot" was great b/c it is creative. Either make more songs about retarted friends or bring something different to the show.

Maybe Salsa music????

Jay on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 10:53 AM

I appreciate you guys coming out. We chose the songs we did based mostly on how well we can play them. Since we haven't been in a while, we decided to go for standbys than for songs that are out there. Although we had not originally decided to play dot dot dot, I really wanted to. And the fact is, if I am going to write a dirty funny song, it is still going to mean something.

Jay on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 10:53 AM

And, for the record, Dot dot dot is really just about me.

I just had the worst image of severed feet flying through the air...

My question is when was the ride last inspected?

jen on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 8:45 AM

"inspected"... one of Tim's friends said that he used to do landscaping at KY Kingdom, and one day the management came over and asked if anyone wanted to be a ride mechanic. He got 8 bucks an hour instead of 7.50, and like zero training.

On that note, I'll be at Universal Studios this weekend. note to self: wear protective gear.

The NBA Draft.... or better described as a bunch of whiny punk kids getting pampered and paid a ridiculously excessive amount of money to play a game poorly.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 12:59 PM

How awesome is this referece by Jim Caple in "What if Griffey had stayed in Seattle?"

"...with the vast majority of fans outside of San Francisco rooting for Junior to hit No. 756 first. This, too, is ironic considering that Bonds has never tested positive for a performance enhancer while Griffey's home run production soared after he took a mysterious "nerve tonic" that also caused his head to swell with "Gigantism" before a company softball game in 1992."

Good argument... Stephen A. Smith, the biggest moron I've ever heard. That just knocked the NBA draft down below wanting to watch someone's balls get smashed with a brick.

The only reason to watch the draft is if you have a favorite college player getting drafted and even then, you are watching disappointment because the NBA rarely rewards excellent skills, just ball-hogging and egotism.

Bigworm on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 4:38 PM

I never said Stephen A. Smith was intelligent, I just said he would be hating on somebody and he does have some things worth listening too, if you can block out the hate. I think it's funny because he brings entertainment (whether you agree or disagree) to the show and calls people out for making stupid decisions.....or any decisions.

Brock on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 4:47 PM

You are probably right, but I just can't understand any of it through the baboonery speak.
