Working On My Fantasies

Time to come up with a game plan for Fantasy Football, stat. So I figure we have a few options that we need to figure out. Everyone please make your preferences known. Ideally we can get a competitive league going.

Fee:

  • Nothing. Pros: more people will play. Cons: more people will play and stop caring around October 1st about their team.
  • $10. Pros: we have enough for a reward at the end of the season, people will be less likely to have an abandoned team. Cons: Fewer teams, bonus only applies to the end of the season so the lower teams lose anything to play for if they are out of the playoffs
  • $50. Pros: weekly prizes for high score, higher stakes means more competition. Cons: Fewer teams

Draft:

  • Live. How many people could make it? What about those that can't?
  • Online: More people can make it
  • Some weird combination of the two - we could bring our laptops over to Joe's and just do the online stuff individually, and the out of towners could still participate. The bad side is we all look like a bunch of tools sitting around with our laptops.

so I like live and if brock wants in he can send them via phone or the sci. I would do 10 dollars. When does the season start?

Phil on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 3:57 PM

the first game is Sept 4th

douglas on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 4:12 PM

i'm down for whatever, i'm already in one paid league, but i'll do another. i prefer a live draft. i don't care about looking like a tool, we all do that so well as it is

joe on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 4:16 PM

Labor day weekend would be hard to do. People will be all over the place. I say we shoot for next weekend sometime or a weekday.

The Saget roast was awesome, if you missed it I recommend catching a rerun.

douglas on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 4:46 PM

those roasts are always funny, this one looked really good cuz people don't realize how crude danny tanner is

douglas on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 4:47 PM

we could just do friday night, combine alcohol w/ fantasy football....

Brock on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 4:54 PM

I appreciate remembering me, your impeached former commissioner.

I am up for a pay league, up to $50. Heck, we could even put the money in a savings account for the 4 months!

I am going to Cincinnati this weekend for an Oktoberfest (in August?! Yes August, they have like 15 Oktoberfests there, its Uber-German). That would make me unlikely to attend any draft this weekend.

I've done live drafts over the phone with my family for years, so its no biggie to teleconference the thing. I might even be able to rig up some elaborate setup to do it while commuting.

Phil on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 5:41 PM

official word out of the UofL SID:

Junior wide receiver Scott Long of the University of Louisville football team injured his foot in practice on Monday during in a non-contact drill.

His condition will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

I'm up for a live draft and some money. Too many people ghost ship their teams...also, I leave for Vegas on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and have a draft on Sunday at 1:00 then have to go directly to Captain Quarters by 1:45-1:50. I say next Tuesday, Phil and I will miss trivia but still look like nerds carrying our laptops.

I'm down with the the missing trivia plan. Tuesday works for me.

Did anybody see the US vs China in baseball? The US plowed their catcher twice, 2 ejections, 7 hit batsmen, 1 mild concussion.

Bigworm on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 8:24 AM

Didn't get to see it. I am still waiting to see the men's 100 meter final where the guy celebrated before the race was over. Only have seen pictures so if anyone can find video of the actual race and not just a picture slide show please post it.

joe on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 8:38 AM

not only celebrated but still set the world record pulling up celebrating.

Anyone hear of the fire at Genny's last night? Coincidence? I think not.

jen on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 10:03 AM

all three of the fires between Genny's and the building next door were completely coincidences. Unfortunately, the juries didn't agree.

Ex-Lexington Catholic quarterback Justin Burke transferred to UofL. He couldn't crack the top 2 rotation at NC State, inquired about UK and then went to UofL. I think Simms is gone after this year.

Barry on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Mossakowski gave his verbal a week or two ago Wes, keep up. As far as Newton goes, there are a lot of 3 star players that turn out to be damn good football players and he may be one of them, but I wouldn't define him as a "big time" recruit.

joe on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 11:12 AM

matt simms was a big time recruit.

joe on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 11:14 AM

Bats game tonight?

Barry on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 11:19 AM

not really. everything I've read said the kid has no arm. He's a smart player that can nickel and dime a defense all day, but he can't spread the field.

Bigworm on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 1:59 PM

Barry - Morgan Newtown is ranked a 5-star by Scout.com #7 QB in the land. Of course I know about Moss a couple weeks ago I am a scout.com premium member. In order to be highly rated by Rivals, you have to go to their combines, which Newton didn't do. Moss did it, and as such was rated very high.

Barry on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 3:44 PM

My apologies Wes, I typically just follow rivals and ESPN. I didn't see Morgan on Mike Scarborough's LSU wish list, nor have I heard much talk about him on the local radio, they seem pretty giddy about Russell Sheppard.

Barry on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 3:52 PM

he is on ESPN's 150, I missed that. anyway congratulations on the recruits

Bigworm on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 3:52 PM

Seven Mary Three plays the Hill tonight.

Bigworm on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 3:55 PM

Barry - I'm just giving you shit man, I don't really care. LSU's entire team is on the freaking ESPN150.

Brooks doesn't recruit based on those rankings alone though. He is a pretty good evaluator of talent. Some lesser known guys (1 and 2 stars) that he was right about was Wesley Woodyard, Trevard Lindley, Keenan Burton, Jacob Tamme, Dicky Lyons Jr., Braxton Kelley, Jeremy Jarmon and Myron Pryor.

I am pretty confident when he offers a recruit a scholarship that they can play somewhere in the SEC.

Bigworm on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 4:04 PM

Oh it's worth mentioning Brooks couldnt recruit based on those rankings alone because well UK sucks and those type of kids won't come here.

Barry on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 4:19 PM

all is well wes. remember it started off by me down-playing your recruit. jacob hester was a two-star (though the reasons are obvious). I'm just excited to see the Julio Jones-Patrick Peterson rivalry get started this fall.

What's up with fantasy football

Bigworm on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 11:21 AM

What I thought was funny is an interview he did before the onslaught of OSU by another SEC team two years in a row. He joked about being recruited by LSU and dropping their recruiting class from the #1 to #2 that year because he was a 2-star.

Barry I know you aren't a big Jacob Hester fan, why is that?

I for one think he is a solid football player. Ran the ball well, never fumbled, has great hands receiving from the fullback set, picked up blocks better than any other running back on the team, never fumbled, would lead the way if needed and get into the linebackers.

douglas on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 11:49 AM

to reiterate what chris said, what is up with fantasy football? anyone?

douglas on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 1:32 PM

so, did everyone die or something?

Barry on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 1:47 PM

on the contrary, I'm a very big Jacob Hester fan. He was college football's Rocky and now he will be for the Chargers. hester played the game the way it was supposed to be played, all out all the time. I loved Hester for all the reason's you mentioned: intelligence, awareness, strength, sturdy with the rock, and was quite the receiver. My beef was not that I disliked Hester so much as I felt Keiland Williams was the best all around back (as far as talent goes) we had. He has the size, hands, and speed. Jacob Hester physically could not do any of these runs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ijn0Wlu5Y-0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcUVLK4T9YI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RDeHRXdVEs
Williams is a threat to score whenever he touches the ball, but has the body to get the 2-3 yards up the middle. He averaged almost 7 yards a carry, but hardly ever got the ball. I just wanted Williams to get more touches. The word in the offseason is that Keiland has had difficulty holding onto the football and has a mental lapse every 4-5 plays. As such, he is not Miles favorite back right now. I hope he grows the hell up, because he really could reak havoc on defenses. There is no one I would rather have for pass blocking, short yardage situations, or even screen passes than Hester. But he can't break one open (unless its Louisiana Tech).

Phil on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 2:04 PM

the big change that I made is that players will be on waivers after the draft. I also tweaked the bonus points system for receivers and running backs, along with the amount of points gained depending on a win to try and make good defensive teams more valuable (still there are only a few in the top 100)

So live draft or online draft? If I am not mistaken, you shouldn't need a laptop for a live draft.

Phil on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 2:32 PM

Right now it is set up to do an online draft, but if everyone can make it to joe's I'll change it to live and input everything by hand. But with only four teams it is looking like making it easier for more people to sign up might outweigh everyone sitting around at Joe's on their laptop

joe on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 3:27 PM

Sick of the people and they are screwing with the advancement policies. I might just start looking elsewhere in the government. Sounds like I will probably get stuck where I am at and I work with a bunch of fucktards. Instead of promotions on merit they are brininging in people externally so they only have to train that one person or promoting the easiest people to replace internally. If you are expendable you are promotable.

joe on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 3:37 PM

Today I was working on a team to write up a report on how to fix a problem with our numbers. A supervisor picked us and said we need to get this number down. These idiots decided to solve the problem without finding the problem. I was running excel spreadsheets and saying hey lets show numbers where the problem areas are and put this in the report and be specific. One guy says that is too complicated lets be very vague on our report. Others couldn't understand the concept of a percentage. Two other people on the team volunteered to write up the findings and I found out they don't know how to conjugate a verb.

It is just sad.

Phil on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 3:46 PM

Joe, I gotta warn you that if you stay in the government you'll run into that over and over. When I was doing training for them I'd say 75% of the people there are just coasting until retirement. No one will stick their head out for anything so nothing will ever get done. I met one guy who told me that he only really has to make progress on what he's working on once every two months or so, but he's fine with that because he's just waiting to retire when he hits 55.

He was 28 and dead serious.

Most of my dad's advancements in the state involved him briefly going to the private sector and coming back as an outsider. The government has a great retirement program, but shitty, shitty coworkers if you have a brain.

I asked some of the people I know that do interesting stuff if they are hiring smart people at good pay. We'll see what comes back...

joe on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 3:53 PM

Don't get me wrong i have no problem coasting, but coasting with something I can advance in. If I hang around I might be able to get a job as a statistician with the census bereau. I have to stay here for another year, year and a half.

Brock on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 7:29 PM

Phil on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 1:00 AM

draft time has been postponed. I repeat - draft has been postponed. The tentative time is right after the U of L vs UK game (Sunday at 6:45) which should give everyone 1) to be at Joe's and 2) be drunk.

Seems like a winning combination.

Phil on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:35 AM

Douglas, just a warning - it's either a 6:45 draft start time or an 11:00 draft time.

Or we can pony up and get the plus setup and get any time we want. But for the life of me I can't figure out what the heck the pricing means.

douglas on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:38 AM

i'll prerank my players if I have to, I doubt i'd make it by 6:45 unless UK's getting blown out or something. I can show up late and make my late picks or something if I miss the beginning, those are generally more important than the first couple rounds anyway

Phil on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:45 AM

Ok, Jerome and I have come up with an idea.

We want to have a fantasy league where you don't draft players - you draft colleges. So it's a normal serpentine draft. First pick someone would take, say, Michigan. That means they can play anyone that played for Michigan (so they'd get Brady, Braylon Edwards, etc). You get four colleges to choose from. We are going to jack up the number of players, say two QBs, four RBs, four WR, two TE and two flex guys. This way if you want LdT you'll have to take TCU. But then you only have three colleges to fill in the 13 other spots.

Anyone want to try this?

joe on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 12:17 PM

Holy shit that is hard.

Phil on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 12:33 PM

I don't think it'd be too tough. You only have four colleges to choose from. The hardest part is gonna be finding a resource with college alumni. It'd be a whole hell of a lot easier if you could see colleges on yahoo of course.

Barry on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 12:50 PM

usc, ohio state, miami, LSU

Phil on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 12:55 PM

that's why we'll have a draft. first guy takes usc, next is OSU. Eventually you gotta pick between Oregon State or South Carolina...

Phil on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 1:04 PM

douglas on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 1:34 PM

Barry on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 1:54 PM

how does defense/offenisive line count?

Phil on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 2:06 PM

wouldn't count OL or defense for now.

joe on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 2:46 PM

Oregon State is a RB/WR deadly combo

joe on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 3:29 PM

I am going Miami or Oregon State number 1

douglas on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 3:45 PM

LSU could be a good pick up, as could auburn, joseph addai, jamarcus russell, ronnie brown...

Bigworm on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 4:04 PM

auburn - cadillac williams , jason campbell

joe on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 4:06 PM

Bo Jackson.

Bigworm on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 4:10 PM

douglas on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 4:12 PM

bo knows fantasy football, i'd pick him up just on the possibility alone of him returning

Phil on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Gotta go with the U. Portis, Frank Gore, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne,Willis McGahee, Winslow...

You basically could take the U and use all their players to fill in around TCU for LdT, Marshall for Randy Moss and Purdue for Brees. Pretty solid lineup right there...

joe on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 10:08 AM

Barry on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 10:18 AM

douglas on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 11:22 AM

yes, child support stops at 18 generally speaking, i was just making a stupid joke. and wes, i can't check my Bellarmine account at work, all other email accounts are blocked. I can check the Sci but not email, that's rational. Anyway, I will when i get home

douglas on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 11:24 AM

wes, or anyone that's married actually, answer this: was your future mother in law kind of a pain in the ass when i came to planning stuff? they had a big blow up last night and some of her friends are saying that every mom tries to be too involved, so I didn't know if this was a common occurrence

Bigworm on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 11:31 AM

Douglas - our situation was different but I can easily see how future mother in laws want their daughter to have the wedding they (future ML) never had.

Abby and I were really busy though with work, Abby was studying for the CPA exam as well so Abby's mom was really involved which she reallly liked.

joe on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 2:21 PM

WEll a guy a I work with got fired yesterday and I talked to him today and his code for nailing a prostitute was in an escort. With his criminal record I assumed a police escort.

Brent on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 2:43 PM

Is anyone else a little confused by what Joe wrote?

Bigworm on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 2:45 PM

Yeah I just figured I missed something but I am not the only one apparently.

joe on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 3:07 PM

I was confused too. He kept asking if I'd been in an escort and I was confused. He finally explained he was in an escort last night meaning he nailed a prostitute. I'd never heard that phrase used before.

His background check just came back from teh FBI and he got fired for it so he got drunk and nailed a hooker and that was his terminology for it.

Actually scratch that. Foootball season is upon us so I'll probably watch football tonight and order Wick's Pizza.

douglas on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 4:42 PM

prostitutes are referred to as 'escorts,' hence if you're nailing a prostitute, your penis is inside a prostitute, not a piece of shit ford subcompact car, hence "in an escort"

Jay on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 5:02 PM

Yeah, only queers would drive a ford escort...oh...wait...nevermind. It's different if they have a spoiler on them.

Doh!

douglas on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 3:02 PM

we had the reception spot down to frazier arms museum or the olmsted, the olmsted was only available on two dates next year, either july or november, and sarah refused to wait until november, and we liked the olmsted better, so we went with the july date. i think it was all a big ruse for sarah to steal a few more months of freedom, independence, and happiness away from me. so it's cathedral of the assumption to the olmsted on july 11th

and you're welcome, although i think the open bar is more for me than you all, i'll be drinking away sorrows

douglas on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 3:04 PM

i'd talk shit, but i have absolutely no fucking clue what to expect with this game, either team could win/lose in a blowout, and it wouldn't surprise, i think there's just so much uncertainty that no one really knows what to say

Bigworm on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 3:05 PM

Fine I'll start. LSU sucks. :)

Bigworm on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 3:08 PM

UK's defense is superior to UofL's defense. Problem is you put offense vs. defense on not defense vs. defense. Crazy I know.

Cantwell is a good QB, I just have a hard time thinking he is going to throw for a bunch of yards when his offensive line has 2 proven players. One is senior C Eric Woods is a complete stud at the center position (probably All-American this year) and the other is another senior at Left Tackle (I think). So that means UofL is going to block Pryor and Peters with inexperienced linemen. I know I salivate over that. Lindley will shutdown his side of the field and I expect Jarmon and Jenkins to be in the backfield all game long.

If UK can stuff the run and makes UofL 1 dimensional it is a long game for UofL. Of course, then UK has to find a way to move the ball. Do we bring in Cobb and essentially run the ball every single play? We might just do that.

joe on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 3:16 PM

We all know Cantwell can take a hit, take a look at the VT Gator Bowl game.

Bolen can block from the backfield. Powell, who knows what he will do. Our top 3 receivers have a combined 0 career receptions.

Our 3 linebackers are true freshman and 2 Juco transfers. Our Kick returner is recovering from a GSW.

what more can I say?

joe on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 3:16 PM

Douglas, you're gay.

Bigworm on Friday, August 29, 2008 at 3:30 PM

The commentator making the trent guy catching bullets from cantwell was classy.

Bigworm on Tuesday, September 02, 2008 at 8:54 AM

Oh, I thought it was more for being instrumental in racking up 204 return yards for UK.

You should really hate Tim Masthay for pinning your asses back behind the 20 after that safety call.

douglas on Tuesday, September 02, 2008 at 9:50 AM

my thoughts from the game: UK's kicking / special teams game was tremendous, they didn't let UL start with good field position the entire game, they have like 2 return yards total or something. UK's D looked extremely good as well. Granted, UL doesn't have shit to work with, but they kept a very good QB in Cantwell rattled the whole game, you could see him rushing a few of his passes b/c of pressure, and something I haven't heard mentioned much at all is that UL couldn't get any yards after the catch the other day. Every time they caught the ball, they were pummeled immediately, they made some very good open field tackles as well. UK's offense was hard to gauge b/c the play calling was extremely conservative, no long balls or hail marys, lots of run plays, however hartline did the main thing the coaches asked, which was not make mistakes, and he didn't. He threw the ball away when he needed to, no fumbles, no INT's, he was solid. It'll be interesting to see how he does when the coaches start letting him loose. Brooks has been saying this is the most talented and well rounded team he's had, he could turn out to be right, should be fun...

Cantwell is a stud with a laser for an arm, he just has absolutely nothing to work with. When guy and long are back, they'll be a little better. I was sitting with some UL boosters, and they were telling me that Cantwell's been outperforming Brohm in practice the past two years, but of course he was never gonna play over Brohm b/c of politics

joe on Tuesday, September 02, 2008 at 10:05 AM

His delivery is way too long. He throws a football like a baseball.

ettiquite question:

what is proper attire for your father in laws funeral?

I was at the funeral home yesterday and cat, this girl I work with who most of you all know from bellarmine husband was rocking the week old scruff for a person with a baby face that can't grow facial hair and a short sleeved multi-colored nautica polo with full sleeve tattoos and was slouched over in a chair like he didn't want to be there.

I know we are all assholes but we can be presentable and step up when need be. Honestly I think abby and/or joanna would kick wes and chris' asses for doing that.

The girls I went with from work were quizzing me on proper ettiqute and complaining about him.

Phil on Wednesday, September 03, 2008 at 10:40 AM

to whom it may concern:

I know some of you all are lame now and need plenty of time to get permission or to arrange to have fun. I am just throwing out there in advance that my birthday is not this weekend but next weekend. Actually, my birthday is on the Friday. I know Douglas would prefer Friday and Wes will probably be working on his basement, but Chris and I were discussing basically an all day drink-a-thon on Saturday the 13th in honor of the occasion. Basically it is my b-day and Chris is on vacation so we want to grill out, drink beer and watch football and possibly leave the house later in the evening, highly unlikely. So any input is appreciated, but basically what I am saying is clear your schedule or warm up your liver and rest up for a day/night of booze.

Peace out hombres.

Bigworm on Wednesday, September 03, 2008 at 3:07 PM

Barry on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 1:24 PM

I'm alive. Most people are saying far as Baton Rouge is concerned, this is the worst one since Andrew in the 90's. Roughly 90% of BR lost power. I drove around town a little yesterday and that seems about right. There are trees down everywhere, some in people's houses. Stores are starting to open up which is good because people are starting to run out of supplies. Very few places have power and the initial estimates were half the city would get power in 1-8 days, the other half 3-4 weeks...fuck. I think things are moving much faster than they initially expected, however. So we will see. We have generators at school, but no AC. Anyway, we've been lucky with the weather so far. Its been raining a lot so the high temp most days has been around 84 degrees. Brock, as far as evacuation goes, there isn't really a risk of major flooding (just flash floods) in BR, so they don't evacuate the city. This is my friend David's running blog (he has a friend in Massachusetts operating it for him) with some pictures he took.

if anyone remembers the "How Would You Move Mount Fuji?" post then this will probably make you laugh. Anyways, Microsoft using brain teasers in interviews caused a whole bunch of copy cats. And once you get people trying to immitate, you are gonna get some epic failures. Here's a story of one such failure (the I isn't me, it's some other dude. obviously):

During a screening interview, I was asked how I would design a bike fit for someone visually impaired. I responded something to the effect of, "What, like, for blind people?", and she answered yes.

I thought for a moment and then I responded, "Well.. a blind person riding a bike doesn't sound like a very safe idea, so I would make the bike stationary, maybe with a fan blowing in the person's face. He probably wouldn't even know the difference."

She was speechless.

joe on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 1:51 PM

I am creating phony certificates and having mini-ceremonies to present them.

The first one said:

"This is in recognition for your significant contribution towards the Pre-Determination Team meeting our monthly quota of awesomeness. We feel it is appropriate that everyone gets a pat on the back in recognition of all of our hard work. Nobody should be singled out because we have feelings we don’t want to hurt. Remember back at the YMCA when you were 5 and everybody got a trophy for participating, well that is what this is. We appreciate all your efforts in assisting in crossing the finish line and scoring the touchdown."

Joe - At Schwarz Pharma (Seymour, IN) they pretty much promoted people that either a) lived there or b) lived there and was a lifer there.

They didn't promote the most obvious people. For example, when a supervisor position would open they wouldn't promote the team leader directly underneath the previous supervisor that has been running the team for the last 5 years and knew all the testing frontward and backward. They would promote that bitch that was on the checkwork team that didn't hvae a fucking clue what really was going on.

It got so bad after a few of us got fucked we started our own team, called "Team Awesome" and all the members have membership cards. My membership No. is 0002 (second member cause I got fucked for a team leader position there) which was only second dumbest move ever by them because the Emperor of Awesome (Team Awesome founding member) is 0001 . The back of each Team Awesome card reads "When logic and reason are forgotten, you can always count on the powers of awesome!" which was basically us (Team Awesome) making fun of all the retards.

joe on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 2:39 PM

The redskins had about as high powered offense as UL last night.

Bigworm on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 8:41 AM

Yeah they were pretty pathetic. Last night, their defense gave up all their points in the first few series and really was much improved from that point on.

joe on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 9:02 AM

Today they are saying if we meet our goals they will give us a pasta dinner. We are splurging, man I could use some spaghetti, I'm gonna go work my ass off. That 69 cent box of spaghetti and 99 cent can of sauce is unobtainable for me. Maybe they will go out of their way and spread some butter on a piece of bread and sprinkle some garlic salt on it. I wouldn't want them to go to far out of their way for us though.

Bigworm on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 10:58 AM

A spaghetti dinner, holy fuck! I can't think of anything else I'd rather have for a team of shining superstars.

I recommend the sweet oat bread from Kroger's deli with the pasta. I think it goes for $2.49 a loaf, which is a fucking steal.

Bigworm on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 11:02 AM

1) Rodgers

3) Brohm

How the fuck did Matt Flynn overtake Brian Brohm?

brohm was drafted ahead of flynn.

Breckinridge used to have a creepy magician

Bigworm on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 11:34 AM

Betts is on the practice squad for Indy. Indy is notorious for only keeping 2 QBs on their roster and Lorenzen would command too much money, due to being in the league longer, as a third QB.

joe on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 11:37 AM

Makes perfect sense. Is Boyd on the Giants practice squad? Lefors is in Canada, Ragone has a radio show and jeff brohm will be unemployed soon.

Bigworm on Monday, September 08, 2008 at 12:34 PM

Douglas - are you in a pay league or is their money involved?

douglas on Monday, September 08, 2008 at 1:32 PM

Yeah, I've got him in our Sci league, that's free, but there's shit talking involved in winning, so I'm pissed about that. Also, I've got Wes Welker in my pay league at work, and there's no way he's having anything close to the year he had last year w/ Brady. So I reiterate, I hope Gisele Bundchen is really a closet transexual and gives Brady an ass pounding way worse than the one Eli gave him in the Super Bowl

joe on Monday, September 08, 2008 at 1:44 PM

The one thing I hate more then real hippies is fake hippies.

Jerome on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 9:37 AM

What's a fake hippie? Are there any examples of famous fake hippies that would help me identify the fake hippies? I would LOVE to add more groups to my hate list.

joe on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 9:56 AM

Their was a girl on the bus this morning that wanted to be a hippie by dressing like one but was wearing crocs, drinking starbucks and carrying a "peace love and pink" victoria secret bag. Wouldn't crocs, victoria secret and starbucks be anti hippie? Isn't that the establishment or the man? Basically dumb fucking clothing lines that decided that hippies should make a comeback should all be shot. Hippies are bad enough why should we invite more? Get a haircut, take a bath and suit up. Enough of the high 2s and saving the rain forest. just because you smoke pot and smell bad doesn't mean you are a hippie it means you are a drug addict bum. Grow up and be a fucntional druggie.

Bigworm on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:03 AM

Nice one Joe.

douglas on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:04 AM

Crocs sold out a long time ago, when entire suburban families have their own pair of Crocs, then its safe to say they are no longer hippie. As for Starbucks, I wouldn't think that disqualifies her, however the Victoria's Secret bag most definitely does. Hippies don't have sexuality, even attractive ones do their best do look like ogres, so shopping at Victoria's Secret definitely defies any hippieness.

Jerome on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:06 AM

Thanks, guys! I hate fake hippies

joe on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:10 AM

Shouldn't a true hippie should support the small coffee shop, not starbucks.

Bigworm on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:11 AM

Even though Starbucks buys some "fair trade" coffee beans, I do not think they buy 100% fair trade coffee beans, therefore, they sold out and started doing things for the corporation. Also due to the fact that they had to close 600 stores because they over expanded, they were "corporate". I'd say hippies don't drink Starbucks.

Wrecking Crew on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:16 AM

Fuck everyone, if you aren't like us, burn in hell!

Fuck hippies! Join society and get a fucking job. Starbucks is a corporate monster that a hippie should not support.

Fucking Raiders! This football season is going to suck. Between the Raiders, UofL, and ND, they're all shitty.

Anyway, does anyone want to ride this afternoon if the weather clears up? Hell, as long as there is not an active thunderstorm overhead, I'll probably ride.

joe on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:21 AM

friday I am leaving work at 11:30 because I have 4.25 hours that expire at the end of October. I have no clue what is going on but I am leaving work.

joe on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:21 AM

I was tempted to have mom either make lunch or go out for lunch. Leave work and go ride then go eat then start drinking?

douglas on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:22 AM

so don't go near any burkets today, either one might snap and kill either hippies or underperforming athletes

joe on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:25 AM

I'm pretty much against "fake" people and people that try to make a difference today. Just accept who you are and do what you have to do to survive and realize you will never make the world a better place. You work for the VA, just send out the letters and don't royally fuck things up and do what management tells you. It is a fucking pay check take it and be happy.

joe on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 10:54 AM

Ohio State-USC saturday, is it going to be a good game at all?

Bigworm on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 11:12 AM

Nope, Beanie Wells isn't 100% and to be honest it doesn't really fucking matter.

If Ohio State plays zone defense all game long like they did against UF in the title game, then Dirty Sanchez will pick them apart. USC will spread them out and exploit mismatches all day long with linebackers covering receivers.

USC is fast on fast, and Ohio State is slow on slow.

Jerome on Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 11:16 AM

I'll be watching the game with a plate of nachos and refried beans.

Did Microsoft know about Xbox failures?
Report casts new light on reliability woes

By Mike Smith
ADVERTISEMENT

Has your Xbox 360 ever failed unexpectedly? If it has, you're in good company -- in February, warranty company SquareTrade pegged the console's failure rate at a shocking 16%. But a stunning new expose claims that Microsoft knew over two-thirds of the consoles produced by its contracted factories in the run-up to the Xbox 360's November 2005 launch date were faulty, and opted to push the machine out to consumers in spite of its problems.

The report, published this week in VentureBeat and written by technology journalist Dean Takahashi -- author of the critically acclaimed The Xbox 360 Uncloaked -- blames numerous factors for the now-infamous "Red Ring of Death" failures, including a rushed design process, the machine's groundbreaking complexity, and cost-cutting initiatives that hamstrung quality assurance tests.

As one anonymous source told Takahashi, "There were so many problems, you didn't know what was wrong. The [test engineers] didn't have enough time to get up and running."

Even though Microsoft eventually extended the Xbox 360's warranty program in an effort to reassure consumers, incurring an estimated $1 billion bill in the process, public confidence in the Xbox 360 was harmed immeasurably. Many online reports indicated purchasers had to go through four or more replacement machines before receiving one that worked, and Microsoft amassed a "bone yard" of 500,000 broken consoles in the process, Takahashi claims.

Today is officially fuck you terrorist day.

Question, when we got the "Fuck Bin Laden" chant going at PHT was that on the day of 9/11 (thursday) or did we do that on the weekend?

Phil on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 10:46 AM

if i recall correctly, 9/11 was a tuesday. I watched TV in my apartment all day/night long. Even bought an attenna to do so.

So the next night would be a 50 cent beer night at PHT on a wednesday...

joe on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 10:52 AM

It was my 19th 21st birthday at Phoenix Hill on a Wednesday. We started at Atlas and it sucked so we went to PHT.

Bigworm on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 10:54 AM

You're right Phil, it was a Tuesday so it was Wednesday when the chant got going.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 10:55 AM

I agree with Phil. 9/10/01 was "Black Monday," our first round of tests in med school. I was too hungover to make it to class, and when I finally showed up classes had been canceled because of the events. So as Phil pointed out, a PHT Wednsday would be a reasonable conclusion.

at least you'll be together in good company, you can catch bin laden there. sept. 11 was one of my favorite college memories (not the attacks) but the night of drinking that commenced. that was the night jay pitts called me from the baseball field were him, scroggin, and bj were getting hammered on kentucky tavern. me and nakajima went down to join them as we took shots in the dugout. if you ever saw a missing tree in the row of trees in left field, that's because scroggin decided that he would treat the tree like bin laden, and he mounted the tree and took it down. we all pissed on the field that night too

Anyone know what they're doing to the field at Bellarmine? They took down the fence and trees.

joe on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11:14 AM

I am guessing the brick wall they have been talking about for years or dropping the baseball program

Bigworm on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11:28 AM

Do we actually have a baseball program? I mean I know we have a team but to say we have a "program" might be far fetched.

joe on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11:31 AM

They made the NCAA Div 2 tournament and had the most successful team in 28 years last season.

Bigworm on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 11:35 AM

Even the blind squirrel gets a nut every once in a while. Let's see what they do this year.

douglas on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 12:24 PM

they are building a new fence with brick columns, not an entire brick wall, from what I understand, it'll look a lot better. I just find it amazing that Wiegandt can't get any of this done while he was coach, but miraculously when he's AD these things get done. I remember sitting in his office on my recruiting visit in 2000 hearing how they were going to revamp the field and put a new stadium up. I think he knew he was getting the AD job and waited until then to get things moving so he could get credit, but that's just a conspiracy theory

joe on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 12:39 PM

I remember my recruiting trip to Bellarmine: Hey Chris is your brother interested in coming here? Tell him to come to a game this weekend.

You're Chris' brother? I'll send you a letter in the mail.

I had a letter or intent that week to sign.

Bigworm on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 12:50 PM

Joe - Did they know they were getting the crafty lefty or did they think you were a power hitter?

joe on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 12:55 PM

Mostly a crafty lefty. First thing Wiegandt said when he took over the team and met me in the weight room before my freshman year was I don't think you'll be able to get a college hitter out. I had close to 10 college starts under him after that. Suck it Wiegandt.

Douglas will agree I was a way better hitter/outfielder then Holland, but who wasn't. I did beat coach in the homerun derby senior year. Me and him didn't end on a good note.

joe on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 12:56 PM

I was the only recruit of the old coach that made it past one season, everyone else transferred or quit baseball.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 1:21 PM

I'm just pissed that they cut down the trees. They should have let them grow tall like at Hanover. I loved playing at Hanover with the big evergreens behind the fence. It was almost like a field of dreams type thing.

Bellarmine baseball, we may not have been able to beat anybody, but hopefully we could have out drank them.

I'm at work. My neighbor just called me and said I have electricity now.

Bigworm on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 9:41 AM

Nah I am at work.

I lost power for about an hour yesterday, the other side of the neighborhood is out of power. So being the good man that I am I allowed my neighbor to tap into our electricity so he doesn't lose the cold food in his house. Of course, it is pretty funny to see some rigged extension cord spanning from my outlet through the yard, over the fence across the concrete basin through the neighbor's yard into his wall. Quite a scene.

Other than that, I had a sick kid all weekend. Just not a good weekend when you wake up Saturday early early morning to a screaming kid that has shit and puked everywhere.

I finally got through to the insurance company. They are just forwarding everything to a central call center with the huge influx of claims. They said they can't give me a claim number yet but a representative will be in touch with you in the near future.

This will never get done.

Bigworm on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 10:38 AM

Douglas - actually you are the first person I thought of after I was cleaning up that mess. I remember you made a comment a while back about cleaning up a mess in the middle of the night and being the only one there. Atleast Abby was able to give him a bath while I cleaned it up.

Pick up shingles around the neighborhood and then cry myself to sleep. My roof isn't that bad compared to a lot of others but bad enough that all my neighbors said definitely do something about it and contact the insurance company. There is a reason I am paying for home owners insurance.

Dave Ragone was at our practice last night. He had some great advice for the kids.

The thing is that he's almost 50 pounds less than his playing weight when he was in the pros.

Apparently, he was named MVP of the World Bowl at some point. I had no idea.

joe on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 7:58 AM

I'm listening to Ragone right now and he is horrible. Only thing that makes Ragone tolerable is that he has scott padgett with him. Padgett makes Ragone sound like a great radio host.

joe on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 12:54 PM

I cried a little last night watching MNF and DVR'd stuff. Directly across the street from me they still don't have electricity, i.e. Fr. Domhoff's mom's house and the Martinez's house (Trinate, Zayvore, John and Poopy). I think Poopy and them will be over any day now to watch tv. They have said they tried to watch tv at my house from their front yard. Next door to the Martinez's house is a woman who just adopted a little vietnamese baby that came home I think Saturday, so we ran my industrial strength extension cords from Nancy's house next door across the street to this woman's house.

joe on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 8:04 AM

I felt bad about this:

Well, it appears our African-American friends have found yet something else to be pissed about. A black congresswoman (this would be Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston), reportedly complained that the names of hurricanes are all Caucasian sounding names.

She would prefer some names that reflect African-American culture such as Chamiqua, Tanisha, Woeisha, Shaqueal, and Jamal. I am NOT making this up!

She would also like the weather reports to be broadcast in "language" that street people can understand because one of the problems that happened in New Orleans was that black people couldn't understand the seriousness of the situation due to the racially biased language of the weather report.

I guess if the weather person says that the winds are going to blow at 140+ MPH, that's too hard to understand.

I can hear it now: A weatherman in New Orleans says...

Wazzup! Hehr-i-cane Chamiqua be headin' fo' yo' ass like Leroy on a crotch rocket!

Bitch be a category fo'! So, turn off dem chitlins, grab yo' chirren, leave yo' crib, and head fo' de nearest FEMA office fo' yo' FREE shit!

joe on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 8:13 AM

While I am being horrible, The Martinez's across the street asked to put some stuff in my freezer so I agreed. I found it hard not to make jokes because I now have a freezer full of tamales. Seriously, the Martinez's wanted me to keep their tamales frozen.

Bigworm on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 8:15 AM

joe on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 8:48 AM

What is up with college kids these days, they act like they've never seen a drunk person puke in a flower pot next to a garbage can on a college campus.

That is what we like to call a Friday night.

Synopsis of what I heard/remember from Friday night. Basically, we were going to visit nicole and stay at her and her bf's apartment. He was supposed to be off work and come drink with us when we got there. 6:30 rolls around so we meet nicole at a bar. her bf picked up an extra shift saying he will be a little later around 8:30. We say fine and hit the real college bars for the evening and get a bite to eat. He then says it will be more like 9:30, then 10:30, then 11:30 he actually shows up I think. She is pissed at him for bailing on all of us and he is pissed that she is drinking with us. All hell breaks loose I'm kind of blacked out at this point, beer pong bourbon shots and so on. Nicole and I are battered and bruised from beating the shit out of each other at the bars we find out later in the weekend. Nicole's bf got her escorted out of the bar, he claims she was kicked out. we all leave and go home I puke in the meantime a few times out car windows on college campuses. At some point he wakes Nicole up because he is pissed by dumping water on her. There was restraining, throwing things, she locks herself in the bathroom and takes a bath/shower to get away from him, he dismantles bathroom door and calls the cops and her mom saying she was beating him up, more shit happens, they all show up with paramedics she leaves with her mom, Laura and I slept/comatose through the entire thing in the tv room of the apartment, paramedics were more concerned with the 2 of us and on their way out ask if they should check on the 2 of us. Nicole says they will be ok. Basically good drunken fun with no harm except a douchebag, controlling 30 year old bf I mean ex-bf who overreacted and doesn't know how to take care of things with a drunk 22 year old girl. Good times.

douglas on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 11:38 AM

haha, so the answer is yes, there was more to the story. this guy sounds like a total douchebag, and i'm not even including the fact that he's 30 years old and still picking up shifts at a restaurant. If you're 30 and working at a restaurant, you just need to shut the fuck up and be grateful some 22 year old chick lets you fuck her

joe on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 1:34 PM

Her mom told her this weekend that it wasn't the first time that he called her. He called her when Nicole told him they were partying in Louisville around new year's. Like her mom said: what 22 year olds drink? Her parents have a full bar in the basement.

Also, worse than calling her mom, he called the cops saying a chick was beating him up. What kind of fag admits to being beat up by a chick, let alone call the cops on it. How do you let a chick beat you up in the first place? You may not be able to fight back, but it's not that hard to keep a chick from hitting you.

Her name was on the lease of their apartment so she got her name off it and the electric, water and cable have all been turned off. She took everything of hers left that he hasn't stolen and hidden and took some other stuff and left nothing but old cheese and meat while he is out of town for the week with the power cut.

she was living with the douchebag? doesn't that make her as dumb as him? I like the revenge factor, though, she should've also left like some fish or rotten food or something just sitting out to fester until he gets back home

Phil on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 12:05 PM

some girl who apparently thought I was some type of guy she wants to date kept calling me and showing up at trivia uninvited. She basically acted like my girlfriend. So I got drunk and ran my mouth with big jay, I think she got frustrated that I wasn't going out of my way to date her, and left me a passive aggressive text message about not knowing whether she should continue trying to make it work between us.

Good times.

I sent joe a text but this was the most embarrassing thing I've been involved in a athletic competition.

I'm on third, one out. Dude on my team rips one into left, right at their left fielder. So I just stand there, wait for them to make the grab and haul ass because he was kinda close in and didn't want to get tagged out like a chump.

Well, I could have walked in. They didn't even bother throwing the ball in. But then they start arguing that I didn't tag up and run over to third. The ump didn't see shit. So she misses a call and has to make a guess apparently. Meanwhile the other team is yelling that "he got home too fast to not have tagged"

Apparently I look to damn dumb to tag up and too damn slow to run into home that quick. Fuck you metro parks. We would have only gotten beat 15-5 instead of 15-4.

Phil on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 11:52 PM

disregard that previous post. Lynnie and I just got beat 11-1 in indoor soccer by Truman.

joe on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 10:19 AM

Maybe we all should quit sports. My basketball team is 0-3 with a 40, 30 and 20 point defeat. October 6th is the day for our team. We play the team from Hikes Point Christian that signed up for the 40+ league but they were the only team so they stuck them in our league. That loss will be embarassing.

joe on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 7:50 AM

We won our first game of the season last night in basketball raising our record to 1-3 with a 28 point demolition. We had 5 guys show up and they had 6 but that didn't slow us down. I played an intimidating center drawing a double team all game which lead to a 30-6 halftime lead.

Bigworm on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 8:44 AM

joe on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 10:16 AM

I'm getting to old for this sports shit. I fucking hurt today. I recommend we try to have at least 7 preferably 8 people at each game if we get a team. Having 5 show up yesterday will put a hurt on me. The opposing team put on a press when they went down 25 so the tempo of the game turned into a running game. Their press sucked so we just ran past it. I don't like sprinting and jumping.

Bigworm on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 10:25 AM

Wow, UK football getting some props.

SEC Game of the Week

Kentucky (4-0) at Alabama (5-0), 3:30 EST, CBS
Why to watch: Could this be a preview of the SEC title game? Fine, so that’s getting wayyyyy ahead of the game, but no one ever imagined a few weeks ago that this would be one of the SEC’s marquee games between two unbeaten teams. Alabama hasn’t just gone 5-0, it’s been amazing in doing it getting out 31-0 at Georgia before holding off the Bulldogs for a 41-30 win. Supposedly a year away from being special, the timetable has been moved up and national title expectations have kicked in.

Kentucky hasn’t been anything special on offense after losing all the stars from last year’s team, but the defense has become special allowing three points or fewer in three of the four games. Last year’s win over eventual national champion LSU was big, but a win this week would be even more important. With winnable home games against South Carolina and Arkansas to follow, the Cats would likely be 7-0 going into the road trip to Florida, and would likely be ranked in the top five, if they can pull off the upset.

This is supposed to be the easy portion of the Bama schedule facing UK this week and hosting Ole Miss next week before going to Tennessee. Obviously, things have now changed as the Tide will have to prove to be up to the challenge against the emerging teams.

Why Kentucky might win: Sheer hubris. As much as Alabama head coach Nick Saban can talk about getting his players ready and as much as everyone can say they’re in the right frame of mind, they just whacked Georgia at Georgia like it was Utah State. There’s bound to be a letdown. On the field, Bama’s fantastic offensive line will get tested even more than it was against Georgia with the aggressive UK defensive front certain to manufacture ways of getting into the backfield. Bama QB John Parker Wilson has hardly been touched so far. That’ll change on Saturday.
Why Alabama might win: It’s not like the Kentucky offense is blowing anyone’s doors off. The Wildcats are doing enough to get by thanks a relatively light schedule, a decent running game, and efficient passing. No one has pushed the UK offensive line yet, but Alabama’s defensive front four should speed up the passing game a bit and force Mike Hartline to step up his reads and his decision making. While Hartline is growing into a nice player to build around, he’s still a sophomore going into a super-charged environment against an ultra-confident defense.
Who to watch: Glen Coffee has yet to be hailed as any sort of SEC superstar, but the junior has been one of the key focal points of the Alabama offense. He’s not tremendously fast and he might not be very flashy, but he has rushed for a solid 490 yards and three touchdowns and is coming off a workhorse 23-carry, 86-yard, one score day against Georgia. Alabama wants to establish the run first, and it’ll lead off with Coffee to set up Wilson and the passing game.
What will happen: Kentucky’s defense will be solid enough in the first half to get the fired up Tide crowd grumbling, but there won’t be enough from Hartline and the offense to take advantage of any opportunities. Alabama will look mortal, and Kentucky will be the reason.
CFN Prediction: Alabama 20 … Kentucky 14 ... Line: Alabama -16.5

Must See Rating: (5 Palin vs. Biden - 1 Beverly Hills Chihuahua) … 4

douglas on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 10:35 AM

as long as UK keeps it close, they should be ranked after. If they manage to win, they'll vault into top 15

joe on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 10:48 AM

UL
WKU
Norfolk State
MTSU

If UK is 4-1 with a loss to Alabama and wins over the 4 teams listed above they will not be ranked. If they are 5-0 I could see 15-20. Isn't like 9-15 the 1 loss USC, Georgia, Ohio State and teams like that? UK will not jump any teams like that.

Phil on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 10:49 AM

it'd be a work team. we got six people now, two of which can actually play. both would a solid forward if we played bellarmine intramurals. we also have two guys that could run the point profficiently, and another that has some decent size. I'm useless.

I'll let you guys now. It should be up at hoops on thursday or sunday.

douglas on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 at 11:23 AM

i said if they play alabama close, not if they lose like GA did. they're already on the cusp of the top 25, they only reason they're not there yet is b/c of the teams you already mentioned. If they play AL very tight down to the wire on a nationally televised game of the week, they will be ranked. Granted, it might be only be 25, but that's still ranked.

I'm gonna pull a Jay and do my post-workday commenting:

I so wish I could play in this basketball league, my sports craving is long past due. I was racking up MVP awards in the accountant league I played in my last year in Cincy, so I know I could hold my own, especially being 30 pounds lighter.

There is no way in hell UK gets ranked if they LOSE to Bama. Who cares if they play 'em close, they lost. I'll put $100 on that. Cincy has 1 loss, to Oklahoma, on the road, and they aren't even getting votes and they've beaten Miami (OH) and Akron (road, with the 4th string QB), which is much tougher than UL and WKU. I'm not saying that UC is better than UK, but it doesn't matter who you beat or lost to for these rankings (for "non-elite" teams), it just matters whether you have a loss.

With that, Vanderbilt shocks Auburn.

I'd like to commend Cheryl for having the two best posts the last few days with Wes' cut & paste coming in third.

joe on Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 8:32 AM

Any one want to ride after work?

Bigworm on Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 10:32 AM

I'd love to, but can't. Abby has some kind of E&Y thing at Bellarmine tonight.

joe on Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 10:46 AM

Bellarmine sucks.

Brock, you in town for the game tomorrow? Chris and I were trying to figure out how many St. X-Trinity games in a row you have been to. Is there a schweitzer playing any more?

douglas on Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:25 AM

the trinity-x game used to always be one of the highlights of my year in high school

Bigworm on Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 11:40 AM

Oh and the CUBS still suck.

Brock on Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 3:26 PM

I will not be in town for the game tomorrow. Payton is a freshman at UK now, so no more Schweitzers on the Trinity football team.

We did have a nice run, there was a Schweitzer at Trinity from 1993-2008, and every one of us played on the varsity volleyball team.

I suppose that would be how many years I've been to the Trinity-X game, but its actually longer - I went the 3 years before I started high school, so this is kind an end to an era. I believe the family is still going to the game, my parents still know some of the kids on the team and its a good excuse for my grandma to make way too much awesome food for tailgating (although I won't be partaking).

I dislike my job.

joe on Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 3:37 PM

we were guessing close to 20 years of brock at the game

Wrecking Crew on Friday, October 03, 2008 at 7:03 AM

So if anyone is interested, I think we will be going camping the weekend of Oct. 25. I was think the Gorge or Natural Bridge, but Brock, if you and Michelle are coming and would like something more South, we can change.

Jay on Friday, October 03, 2008 at 7:20 AM

Phil, You shouldn't forget that we are all pretty much gay now.

joe on Friday, October 03, 2008 at 8:50 AM

Chris and I plan to ride today after he gets home from work if his call schedule doesn't change. He gets done around 5 so around 5:30-6 we will ride. If anyone is interested let me know.

Also, we mentioned going to Molly's around 10 because a band is playing. I keep hearing about Wax Factory but have never seen them play. Douglas, the older Halfacre used to be in the band and the singer is Hobbs, the former coach at Manual that is buddies with Kyle.

Just some ideas for the evening if anybody would be down.

Bigworm on Friday, October 03, 2008 at 9:59 AM

Jay - What do you think of Heroes so far?

douglas on Friday, October 03, 2008 at 10:45 AM

i didn't know the older halfacre isn't in the band anymore, the younger halfacre (brian) was in the band too, not sure if he's still in it or not. I guess hobbs isn't teaching anymore. last i heard he got fired from manual for being a little too involved with some of his female students

joe on Friday, October 03, 2008 at 10:54 AM

I heard that story about the students at Manual. The last I heard I think he was teaching at Eastern.

Jay on Friday, October 03, 2008 at 11:36 AM

Wes-so far I like it. The first two episodes that premiered together, I liked, but were wierd. I thought this past week's was really good though.

Shit, I really need to get out and ride but I got hockey tonight.

Joe when did you ride Briar Hill?

How do you like it compared to Seneca?

joe on Monday, October 06, 2008 at 12:14 PM

Chris, Scott and I rode it yesterday. I liked Briar Hill. It is a good change of pace from Seneca. I couldn't ride Briar Hill everyday just because you don't get the speed you get at Seneca.

joe on Monday, October 06, 2008 at 12:25 PM

I think Chris and I are going to try and ride today and Wednesday. Tomorrow chris is on call and I have basketball. I might be able to sneak a ride in on Thursday and/or Friday if it is right after work and a quick one.

Marc on Monday, October 06, 2008 at 5:14 PM

So yes, Tiffany and I are back from Cleveland. I didn't realize there would be a Ring-Gate scenario upon our return. While I am glad you all have checked facebook and kept up to date with my personal life, it is kinda creepy as well.

So Tiffany and I did go to Cleveland for a wedding, my brother's. Jackasses. The girl he married is from Solon, OH which is an area of Cleveland. So we did not runoff to elope. Nor did we runoff to get engaged. If we did, why the hell would we choose Cleveland. "Hey baby, lets go some place romantic. Cleveland?! It's like you're reading my mind." It would have been impossible for us to have gotten engaged there as well, because... well you know that ring I have been wearing.... well Wes was right... it is a promise ring... sort of. Tiffany asked me a while back and I said yes. That's right bastards, she asked me. What?! Am I not a sexy piece of man that has women desired to grabbed me and settle down with me? No? but at least one wants to. So I have been wearing my ring, while I have been attempting to save up for one to buy her, and I have kept it secretive for two fold. One so I wouldn't be referred to as a jackass who couldn't afford a ring and two so that my brother and new sister-in-law could have their "time in the sun" so to speak.

So yes, an engagement trend may be occurring. Sorry I did not wait the traditional Natty Sci 7-8 years. I don't think she would have gone for it, and I checked. Hope this doesn't force the hand of any others. Adrian is already moving pretty swift, i hear, so he has probably already had his first wedding anniversary. Burn! Any more questions can be directed at my or Tiffany's facebook, because now I know you fuckers actually read that.

Phil on Monday, October 06, 2008 at 5:20 PM

Phil on Monday, October 06, 2008 at 5:39 PM

douglas on Monday, October 06, 2008 at 5:57 PM

don't do it marc, it's just not worth it

i had sarah bust out the first "before you gave me the ring you used to do....." and she was saying something about how I didn't do something or blah blah blah, I zoned out

Phil on Monday, October 06, 2008 at 6:08 PM

see, that's the brilliance in marc's plan. now marc can say stuff like "tiff, before you gave me that ring you used to..."

but in marc's case he'll probably get cock punched.

joe on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 10:29 AM

Has anyone ever actually been offended when anybody makes a joke about someone being in a marriage/engagement/relationship? For the most part nobody has any room to talk anymore and pretty much everybody is gay and if you notice, I know brock points this out a lot, we call everything gay. I don't think any harm is intended by us ragging on anybody.

I put all blame for all of this on Wes for breaking the seal.

douglas on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 10:39 AM

i'm fine with blaming wes for making me gay

joe on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 10:48 AM

That day when we went to the White Castle in St. Matthews after drinking from the b-day/Thanksgiving keg with Chris, Wes, Dave and me and maybe some others back in 2003(I think) has led to years of anguish and dumb mistakes, I mean happy moments, by us all. Damn you Wes for being a trend setter.

joe on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 10:50 AM

Wes, have you been gay I mean married for 5 years? If so it was a 2002 Thanksgiving trip to White Castle. We are old.

douglas on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 12:06 PM

joe on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 12:16 PM

joe on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 12:49 PM

"do you think it is ok to eat meatballs that are pink on the inside??"

A woman at work emailed me this. How many different directions are there to go with that statement?

Phil on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 1:09 PM

I'd go with "when it comes to balls, just remember they are all pink inside" and then give a little fist bump to a hot chick.

Bigworm on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 1:20 PM

Joe I got married 9/27/2003 so yes this past September was 5 years of queerness.

joe on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 1:23 PM

I hope that that is the right date or that Abby doesn't read the site.

douglas on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 1:44 PM

it doesn't matter if the meatballs are pink when they go in, they're all brown when they come out

Bigworm on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 1:46 PM

Joe that is the right date and yes I actually remember it. But if I ever got in any trouble about not remembering the date, I got the date inscribed on the inside of my ring "27th of September 2003".

douglas on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at 1:46 PM

yeah, the 3-homer game was portland christian, but the coach benched me before my 4th at bat, i was not a happy camper. but in my defense, i had multiple homer games against male, st. x, fern creek, and southern, so it wasn't just the cellar dwellers when i performed. in fact, it was after a multiple homer game against male my junior year when Coach Haury offered me a scholly to Bellarmine and I kindly declined, haha

(you calling me a dumbass I mean to imply)

AC/DC would have been cool in concert before I was born.

6 hours takes us where and when?

joe on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 8:45 AM

This is awesome, they let us wear sweatpants and t-shirts to work today. I feel like I am back in college rolling into class looking like a bum.

Chris and I am planning to try and hit the trails today. Anyone interested give one of us a call. I am assuming 5:30-6:00ish. I don't know what Chris' schedule is like, but I think he will be leaving the hospital around 5 at the latest.

since no one followed up on it, i was on facebook and apparently mark and tiffany are engaged now, not sure if it's a joke about the promise ring or if it was official and I had a new gay buddy to go down in flames with, so I didn't know if someone had spoken to either...

joe on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 11:28 AM

I saw it too. Did you not read the posts from 10/6/08 around 5:00?

Phil on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 11:30 AM

marc's post was legendary. i actually forwarded to everyone that i know that ever met marc

douglas on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 12:04 PM

i did read them, they were funny, but he had updated facebook two days after that, right before i posted, that's why I was asking...

Tiffany on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 12:27 PM

Ok I guess ill confirm then. Yes I am wearing a ring and respective families have been informed...So you guys can be gay and go down together.

joe on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 12:28 PM

Tiffany, that was an awesome post.

Cuban on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 2:02 PM

I hope one day I can grow up and be gay too.

joe on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 2:27 PM

I think part of being gay is working on your basement. Chris already redid his and Wes is working on his now. Brody, Douglas, any plans to go work on a basement any time soon?

Phil on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 2:31 PM

I think being gay leads to the basement, because the basement becomes the place where straight behavior is allowed. That's where the big screen TV goes, that's where the bar gets built, that's where you put the pool table, etc.

Upstairs you are still a married homo, but downstairs, well downstairs you can live like a MAN.

joe on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 2:33 PM

The basement gives you hope?

Phil on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 2:43 PM

It at least lets you play "straight dude" which certainly must give you hope.

But let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.

Brock on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 3:17 PM

I find it funny that Phil has all of a sudden become the expert on "manliness" and "being straight."

So what's the call on Smirrnoff Ice? Basement or upstairs?

Phil on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 3:30 PM

I keep my smirnoff ice in my vanity next to my duvets. Bitches love that shit.

Bigworm on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 3:34 PM

Philco - I am laughing my ass off right now amigo. I concur, this thing called "hope" is a dangerous thing.

douglas on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 4:10 PM

i'll have my mancave after the wedding next year when we move. there will be no smirnoff ice or floral arrangement permitted in my mancave

douglas on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 4:54 PM

or candles, or grey's anatomy, or strawberry daiquiris, or fancy art, or spongebob (only parents will appreciate that)

Bigworm on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 4:55 PM

What about boxed wine and P.S. I love you?

Jay on Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 5:54 PM

I would definitely be down for A7X, Shinedown, and Buckcherry. Details? And whomever said gayness couldn't spread didn't know what the fuck they were talking about.
