hockey

That time again. This Monday at 7:30pm is hopefully my last Blue / White championship game. The beer is cheap and it should be fun. For example, I've been paying $2 for a Smithwicks up there of late. Anyways, come on out. I'll score a hat trick for you mother fuckers.

WE tocking out for Wes' B-day this weekend?

joe on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 6:30 PM

that is rocking out.

Phil on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 10:42 PM

brent, rory and josh are in for monday fun-day.

Phil on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 10:51 PM

didn't we run this play in flag football?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMdIHuzJRbw

warning: no sound so don't crank it up. the idiot who edited the video cut the audio out but left a loud as noise in the middle if you do try that

Wrecking Crew on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 7:30 AM

Did we ever actually run it, or just talk about it? As we see though, the hand grenade would have worked.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 7:32 AM

When is Wes' birthday? 11/22? Let's get a keg Wed before thanksgiving and go mullet hunting at the hill. The question will probably be, are we rocking out with or without Wes for his birthday?

Wrecking Crew on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 7:33 AM

Or we're just going to be old and boring, and let it pass without much ado. But here's an early happy birthday wes since I will probably forget later on.

joe on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 8:07 AM

Debate at work with Brian Guinn, if you were to pick a Nebraska QB would it be Eric Crouch or Tommie Frazier? I was pushing Frazier he was going Heisman winner Crouch.

joe on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 8:41 AM

If Monday Fun Day is the hockey game, count Laura and me as probable. I am treating this as an NFL injury report.

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:18 AM

11/21 It is this Saturday.

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:23 AM

Frazier. That dude could run like a freakin' deer. Florida still has nightmares of him.

But if we can have anybody from Nebraska's team I want the felon Philips.

joe on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:25 AM

BG also wanted Thunder Collins with Eric Crouch. I immediately dismissed that statement and said I would take Lawrence Phillips and Tommie Frazier together any day.

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:39 AM

Yeah Phillips is the trump card....by far.

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:40 AM

So the UK/UofL game will be interesting. UofL likes to shoot the 3, UK doesn't like to guard the 3.

joe on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 9:56 AM

I was going to comment on that. People here are complaining about teams coming in to Rupp and have their best shooting games. The Miami game and the 2nd half of the SMU game that I watched, every 3 that was made was uncontested. I'd hope that D-I players can hit a large percent of wide open shots.

douglas on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10:03 AM

it definitely wasn't every 3, they hit some unreal shots, one 3 yesterday the guy double pumped in the air with i think bledsoe in his face and still made it, several of the uncontested 3's were a good 3-5 feet behind the line, past NBA range, they just shot before anyone could get there. don't misunderstand, they definitely need to work on it, and they did leave too many uncontested, but it wasn't like they weren't hitting some crazy shots either. more often than not, if a team comes in and just plans to beat UK by shooting 3's every trip down the court, they're going to lose. what has been encouraging is that they're not letting anyone get down low on them much. they're definitely a work in progress though

douglas on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10:05 AM

rider this weekend is supposed to be a better shooting team than sam houston state

Guy I work with: "Really, skinny jeans and boots?"

Random chick around us: "You talking to me?"

Guy: "yeah, way to be original and show your individuality, you cunt."

(insert awkward looks and silence)

Brent on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 12:41 PM

Dude, I would suggest not going to lunch with that guy anymore. What an asshole.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 12:58 PM

Brent, were you that guy?

Wrecking Crew on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 12:59 PM

As long as you're not eating at your office for fear of a sexual harassment lawsuit, you should eat with that guy every day. You'll end up with some great stories, if not a lunch time fight.

Jerome on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:08 PM

PBR is for sale, like the whole thing.

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:52 PM

joe on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:57 PM

Phil on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:58 PM

They want like $300 million dollars. That's a lot of money for some beer you can't even buy in a keg

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 1:58 PM

It'll get interesting shortly as Cincy is playing in the Maui Invitational.

Brock on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM

Anyone see this new Great West conference?

New Jersey Institute of Technology??! When I think West, I think the Garden State.

Phil on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:02 PM

i guess they figured "well, we certainly ain't great either. fuck it."

Phil on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:09 PM

nova playing Dayton will probably be a loss. I think Dayton is underrated this season. Then our shittiest two teams play alabama and South Carolina so those two will probably be losses too.

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:11 PM

Doubtful.

Syracuse playing NC is probably the biggest chance for a loss....but I like that being a home game for Cuse.

joe on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:19 PM

Did anybody come back to UNC this year? I know they always reload, but I haven't heard or seen much from them yet.

Is it bad that I read that and thought please be someone with the last name cyrus.

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:48 PM

Not sure. Supposedly them and Vandy played a scrimmage without keeping score (wink wink) and Vandy won 80 something to 60 something.

They should have good play underneath, guard play will probably leave something to be desired as should be expected without having Lawson or Ellington.

joe on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:50 PM

I think they are replacing Hansborough with a white boy named Zeller.

joe on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:56 PM

You got that jump up on Philco.

Phil on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:59 PM

Okay so what is the format with the playoffs?

What week do playoffs start?

douglas on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 4:06 PM

i'm pissed b/c I completely forgot the thursday night game and didn't check my team, not worried about our league, but my pay league i'm in, i forgot to put ricky williams in for michael turner who's got a high ankle sprain, so now i can't play my backup RB and I don't have any great options to replace turner this week

Bigworm on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 4:08 PM

WHAT THE FUCK?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

joe on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 5:54 PM

Was the spike not teh right move?

Barry on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 6:17 PM

Les' explanation does not make anything any more clear. Apparently: 1) Les wanted to run the ball after we got to the 31, but the OC called a pass play that would at worst be incomplete (except Jefferson got sacked for the 24th time this year) 2) Les thought he heard someone call time out after the third down botched swing pass and tried to call time out but somehow "did not relay" that to the referee for a full 16 seconds. 3) No mention as to why the kicking team wasn't at least ready to go other than "we didn't have enough time to kick." 4) Doesn't know who told Jefferson to spike the ball but will "get to the bottom of it." Phil, when is he being fired?

douglas on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 9:23 AM

there should be an official countdown after the last game ends, and take odds on whether it will be minutes, hours, or days after the last game

Bigworm on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 9:25 AM

I don't know what LSU could have done, regardless they would have had to snap the ball when the clock started. The only thing they could have done IMO (with lots of luck) is false started and scored a TD because Ole Miss would obviously take the penalty which would have allowed LSU the opportunity to kick the FG. That is as long as the clock would start on the snap.

joe on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 9:29 AM

Isn't there a clock run off with an offensive penalty at the end of the game that would have caused the game to end if they had a false start? I don't believe that with an offensive penalty the game would have continued. I think they would have taken the penalty which would negate the TD and then they run off time ending the game. This might be an NFL rule.

Bigworm on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 9:31 AM

See I don't know in NCAA, I know that is the NFL rule not sure about NCAA.

Regardless they needed to snap the ball as soon as the ref started the clock. Maybe a player should have stole the ball and taken the delay of game penalty to get the kicking team on the field. I have no clue.

joe on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 9:54 AM

If not get the kicking team on just run a legit play.

Bigworm on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 9:59 AM

joe on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:37 AM

douglas on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:56 AM

One of the great dare-to-dream moments came when Kentucky, desperate to end decades of irrelevance, took a crack at drawing Bill Parcells out of the NFL. Not only did Parcells not hang up, he became temporarily intrigued. He even discussed the possibility of giving it the college try with friends, including then-Texas Tech basketball coach Bob Knight.

Dan Patrick just declared Monday "bring your favorite trophy to work day." Would have been awesome to bring in a stolen 7th and 8th grade toy bowl trophy if we followed through Saturday night.

Girl at work (anthony is her boyfriend): every time we go to a thrift store there are always tons of trophies on the "random cool stuff" shelf and Anthony said he really wants to start buying them and just handing them out to just the most random individuals. Like, find the homeless dude with the steel reserve in his hand completely trashed and give him the U7 soccer trophy for being the best homeless dude around. or find some hipster kid with super skinny jeans and give him a trophy for being the biggest douche in town.

i hate those fags, every time i see a dude with skinny jeans i don't want to give him a trophy, i want to punch him in the face

Phil on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 1:34 PM

glad to see the UK game tonight will be on TV. I can't wait to see the cluster fuck of a court they are playing on live.

joe on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 1:45 PM

what? Where are they, Cancun against whom?

Phil on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 1:49 PM

i'll email you the pictures. they are playing in a ballroom. The court is just laid down on some carpeting. There are chandeliers and everything. If someone shoots from farther away than 40ft they'll hit one. They have a scoreboard just dangling in the corner supported by some rope.

I'd like to think Gillispie knew he was going to be gone and scheduled this just to fuck with the next coach.

Phil on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 1:51 PM

the only way this court could be more of a joke is if there was a giant ass Reece's logo on it.

Bigworm on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 8:57 PM

Looks like I was more wrong.

Bigworm on Sunday, January 07, 2007 at 11:32 PM

Steve Kragthorpe is one hell of a football coach. I was actually hoping that UK would lock him up after Rich Brooks leaves. Of course, Mike Archer UK's DC might take the same position at NC State but get paid a lot more so I say let him go. I think I could step in and coach the defense..let's be honest UK was 118 out of 119..so what if we are 119 when I take over the reigns..it was just a one spot drop.

I do like Joker Phillips, but he doesn't have much OC experience to take over for Rich Brooks. Dave, UK went 8 and 5 not, 9 and 5.

Damn! I was hoping to make it to hockey on Monday night, but I had to take the wife to Graceland. Any legendary plans for the holiday weekend?

douglas on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 9:01 AM

stew, what's up buddy

one of sarah's stupid friends decided to get married on thanksgiving weekend, and she's in the wedding, so i've got to go to the rehearsal dinner at 6, i think fandino's having a poker game tonight actually so i'm probably doing that, but if anything's going on, kaelyn's having a sleepover at my mom's house so i'm available

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 9:11 AM

was the stupid part getting married, or getting married on Thanksgiving weekend?

douglas on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 9:29 AM

i was referring to scheduling a wedding on thanksgiving weekend, but you ask a good question.

douglas on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 9:44 AM

so i got my last quote on the basement, so i'll start getting that done next week probably

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 9:50 AM

expect to not see you for at least 3 years?

douglas on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 9:57 AM

no, i'm not doing the wes basement strategy, I'm contracting it all out except for the painting, once I get started, probably 3-4 weeks. i'd try to do it myself, but the more i think about it, i'd rather not use my own basement as a 'guinea pig' for the first time i try it, and contractors are working for dirt cheap right now b/c they're just trying to stay in business

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:14 AM

Poll question:

Turkey or sides?

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:35 AM

Shit man I didn't even ask for quotes on my basement. A lot of my neighbors contracted their out and they were getting $25-30K quotes for about 800 squarefeet. I have 1250 squarefeet in my basement.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:40 AM

I'm not completely sure what we spent on the basement total because I didn't keep track of it. But I'd estimate about $15K.

The good thing is with doing it yourself, you get more comfortable doing other things. For example, Abby and I want to put up a backsplash in the kitchen and knowing my taste in things I can spend about $700 bucks to buy the materials and do it myself or contract it out for God know's how much.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:41 AM

knows

douglas on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:44 AM

800-850 square feet, most of the quotes i'm getting range in the 12k-13k range, including a bar, that's everything but paint. like i said, they're working dirt cheap right now, and instead of taking a year to finish it myself, might as well pay to get it done right and fast

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:45 AM

Douglas - is your basement framed already or are you starting from concrete walls like I did?

Abby's dad was the architect behind my basement, he built his and is damn handy with wood working (I think he is kind of like that dude in Gone in 60 Seconds that gets off on wood).

Also, my dad and brother did their basements so I had other options available. Plus my father did the electrical wiring and shit, which scares the hell out of me. Personally, the worst part was drilling all the damn holes and pulling wires. That shit seemed like it would never end.

I did contract out the hanging and finishing of drywall. Those guys were awesome. If you are doing that separately I have a good guy you can call into your house.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:54 AM

Trust me, if I was being quoted $12-13K I would have jumped all over it.

Phil on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:56 AM

joe, does the turkey include gravy?

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:58 AM

I am assuming that the turkey is gravy covered as are the sides.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:58 AM

Oh and that's the other thing. We didn't have a bathroom roughed in down there so if we wanted a bathroom and wet bar, I was going to have to get them to jackhammer it up and run the necessary pipes below the foundation...all to the tune of another $6K, which wasn't that bad I guess for what they were doing.

I already know once I am done with pharmacy school and have the loans paid off the major house renovations begin. All of these will be contracted out.

The list is already started:
1) Removing carpet from first floor (great room and master bedroom and closet) and re-placing with hardwood. Of course, who knows if we can match what we currently have and I like some of those engineered hardwoods at Lowe's so that could be pricey quickly.

2) Renovate the basement to include a bathroom and wet bar down there.

3) I want to overhaul the master bathroom and get ride of that stupid corner jacuzzi tub and separate 3x3 shower to do a long jacuzzi tub and custom walk-in shower.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:59 AM

I only like hot turkey so that is a tough choice. But it's hard to say no to mashed taters with gravey, stuffing, and biscuits/rolls with butter.

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:02 AM

I still like the idea of buying Gloucester and renovating the entire street into a compound of only people I like connected with underground tunnels

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:02 AM

Abby and I have already realized we either renovate the house to exactly how we want it or we move. We love our location and I figure if we stick around that will prevent us from really forking out some cash for a house because Abby would want a pool & I'd want a walk-out basement with a couple acres of land.

Phil on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:02 AM

damn, tough choice....hmmmmm

i'm gonna have to side with wes. he made an excellent argument. Sides with gravy it is - assuming of course you get the full compliment and don't have to deal with fucking cranberries getting it's period juice over everything.

Fuck cranberries

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:03 AM

Yeah fuck the cranberries.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:03 AM

Brent on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:04 AM

Labor is dirt cheap right now, I got my driveway done for $2850, the guy said a year ago I was charging at least $1000 more.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:09 AM

I am considering contacting this company in Fisherville called Kitchen Solvers. The look like they do quality work.

http://kitchen-remodeling.louisvill...h-Louisville-KY

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:10 AM

I want to have my kitchen redone similar to the way my bathroom was redone, strip it down to the studs and start over. I figure that will be expensive.

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:12 AM

I really don't even know where to start either.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:15 AM

I'd start by making a phone call to a contractor. Either you have to bird dog those guys yourself or put it in the hands of a professional and you still have ot bird dog them. The good thing is he can come out with his designer (coudl be the same person) and give you some ideas and an estimate.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:18 AM

Yeah kitchens can be crazy expensive depending on what you decide on. Are you handy with anything or is your dad handy with anything? Hell he might get bored and come over to do shit when you aren't home?

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:18 AM

Shit I just feel like we need to drop in a Home Depot if there's time reference in here somewhere.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:22 AM

Joe - these people look good. This is who I am considering bringing out for a quote on the backsplash. I bet they have a whole range of options depending on what you want to spend.

http://kitchen-remodeling.louisville-biz.com/

douglas on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:26 AM

i don't have a bathroom or the plumbing for one, so that's keeping the cost low, and i'm adding a bar, but not a sink, that'd be an extra grand and i frankly don't need it, but i could always go back and add it. the place in the basement where i would add a bathroom is staying unfinished, so if i ever get the itch to do that i still can, but it would've been an extra 4-5k to do that right now, and once again, don't really need it so leaving it alone.

douglas on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:29 AM

if you're looking to do anything, i went to louisville.servicemagic.com, basically it's like lending tree, you plug in what you want to do, they match you to four contractors and they call you to go over it, you can get quotes from several people pretty fast on pretty much anything you want to do. i did that, and got a couple other referrals, so i've gotten like 6 quotes so far, and still waiting on the last one to get back with me.

Phil on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:33 AM

shit, I can do your kitchen joe. Let's make it happen.

what I would do is make a clear seperation between your dining room and your kitchen. So extend the countertops out a bit from the wall and put the sink there. Leave the stove where it's at now as well as your fridge. Bam, you got yourself a dinning room that opens up to your kitchen, and a motherfucking triangle set up for cooking too.

order some cabinets online from ikea and put that shit together over a week. piece of cake.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:34 AM

Service magic is a great place. We have used them before. Definately try that site out.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:45 AM

Definitely. My spelling sucks anymore.

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 12:21 PM

I need electrical fixed so I can run the microwave and open the refrigerator door at the same time, cracks in the wall and ceiling fixed, re-do half the floor new cabinets and countertops and install a dishwasher somewhere, at least.

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 12:39 PM

The answer to yesterdays question of do you trust coworkers cooking for a thanksgiving pot luck, the correct answer is no. Quite a few people last night were feeling ill and are zombielike today, including me.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 1:31 PM

Barry on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 1:36 PM

charlie strong wasn't even fucking interviewed for a job last year.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 1:38 PM

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 1:45 PM

http://www.shreveporttimes.com/arti...2/91124018/1028

Phil on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 1:55 PM

charlie strong is more of a central florida guy. 15 of the players he recruited for florida came from there. not to mention I don't think USF has ever had a coach besides Leavitt, and he was born near Tampa so I don't know if that job opening will ever be there.

When George O'Leary was rumored to get canned last year it seemed Strong going there was all but a done deal, but O'Leary is obviously still there. Didn't really pay much attention to it.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 2:09 PM

I see what you are saying Philco, but wouldn't you rather be the coach at a BCS school or is that too much pressure?

Phil on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 2:15 PM

Not a lot of BCS job openings available to him, it appears. No SEC school besides Florida is gonna take him, that's for sure.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 3:31 PM

Brent on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 3:37 PM

Certain things you need the insured for other things you don't. I also don't ask for work permits, technically that's against the law but you need to know when the bend.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 3:38 PM

yeah i didn't get the work permits either. I am a thug like that.

Brent on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 3:38 PM

Damn it feels good to be a gangster.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 3:39 PM

Adrian was asking about what John Wall did in the game the other day because he missed it. I responded with all he did was "messed around and got a triple double" he had no clue what I was talking about.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 3:58 PM

I do have the painter though, and he can do drywall as well. He did my drywall in the basement and pained Austin's bedroom for me. After I get my backsplash put together I am going to have him paint the kitchen.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 3:59 PM

So Joe in other words, with Philco's handiness and mine and Brent's connections...we've got you covered. When do you want to start?

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:10 PM

I have no problem painting myself. What is the going rate hiring out Phil for labor?

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:10 PM

Brent - did you do a backsplash in your house or for anybody that has a tiled backsplash in their house, do they have the tile butting up to the countertop or did they grout inbetween the tile and counter top?

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:15 PM

So Wall got a triple double?

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:18 PM

No, double double.

He had 20 points 10 assists and something like 6 rebounds.

Just the fact that Adrian didn't know it was an Ice Cube song, especially after Alan followed it up with "today was a good day".

Brent on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:19 PM

Phil's labor is dirt cheap but it follows the adage.

I didn't do a backsplash but I like the look and kinda wish I had...Ive seen it done both ways and I think they both look good, personally, if you can do it just right where you have a nice evenly spaced line of grout, I think that looks better. Then again, if you're doing it yourself, you might want to just butt up against the counter :)

joe on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:21 PM

Never would have known the reference.

Bigworm on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 4:23 PM

This is the basic color scheme of our kitchen (cabinets, counter top) and the backsplash we are choosing. Of course, we don't have the big window area and the walls are sage green.

I like the color combinations though and from what I can tell in searching google pictures, people do both ways but I agree...if you can let it sit on a spacer and get the grout between the cabinet and backsplash it does look better.

So I'm thinking about going to the UL/Rutgers game tomorrow. This used to be a no-brainer before the Kragthorpe era, but we won't get into that. I was wondering if anybody else would be interested in going. If I go, I'd like to go with some friends so that I will have a guaranteed good time, regardless of whatever crappy plays Kragthorpe calls. Plus maybe we could make a big sign celebrating the imminent firing of the most terrible coach in Div. 1.

joe on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 1:40 PM

Fuckers off work tomorrow. Drink one for me while I am working.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 2:36 PM

Stew, I'll be there tomorrow. I had season tickets this year (sure it was mostly so I could get basketball tickets), and suffered through most of the games unless I had a wedding to go to. Can't wait to finish off this miserable season with a national TV audience and another beat down at the hands of the football power-house Rutgers.

Brent on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 4:13 PM

Im starting to think UK would be better off without Cousins. He seems to cause to many problems. He's too good to leave on the bench but he's not ready to be the guy to win the game but he thinks he is.

joe on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 7:49 AM

joe on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 8:11 AM

Good news, 840 comes in clear on my radio at work. Pregame show starts at 9:30. I think this will get me through most of the day. Go Cards, go Krogering.

I just figured you might be working on your basement.

Bigworm on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:55 AM

So is Phat Phil taking the UofL job or is Patterson?

UK fans are hoping Patterson takes it so we can try to get Bumphas their DC.

Phil on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:59 AM

Fulmer apparently contacted Louisville about the job, but Jurich wasn't interested.

Still looks like Strong is the guy unless something happens

joe on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:02 AM

I heard the Houston Coach mentioned.

Bigworm on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:10 AM

joe on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:20 AM

That last TD pass I give a lot of credit to the receiver for holding on.

Bigworm on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:22 AM

Hell yeah. He got blown up on that play and made the catch.

joe on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:24 AM

He was still holding the ball in interviews and he said he only put it down to shower.

Bigworm on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:31 AM

oh that's great stuff.

Bigworm on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:32 AM

Douglas - how did you enjoy watching the 25th annual beatdown of UK?

Joe can testify that my blood wasn't boiling...that I was just waiting for us to fuck it up.

douglas on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:44 AM

i fucked up and was too hopeful when they recovered that fumble, but the second i saw them take out cobb on 2nd down, and then again on 3rd, i knew it was over. i knew newton wouldn't score and was yelling at the TV before the play even started. once it went to OT i knew we didn't have a chance, just waited for the inevitable. that's the 3rd loss that can be pinned directly on play calling. if we had beaten UT like we should have, and either Miss St or SC, we'd be in at least the outback, probably capital one

Bigworm on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:47 AM

Yep and now we are going to our home away from home. Nashville.

Phil on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 12:03 PM

Strong and Sumlin (Houston) are the two names that keep coming up and are the most likely candidates. Rumor has it that Louisville has requested to talk to Patterson at TCU, and that even Gruden is still on the table potentially (but highly unlikely).

But I don't think Jurich is gonna wait too long after the regular season to sign someone, so if he can't grab Sumlin, Patterson, Gruden or whoever that Strong is gonna be the guy. Lots of rumblings about him making $2 million.

I think there are some reservations about grabbing a dude that recruits west coast / texas players. Florida / Alabama players have always liked coming here because we do travel down there for the USF games, but we don't exactly make it to texas anymore.

Brent on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 12:33 PM

I like Strong as the best candidate if I were a UofL fan. Strong program, Strong conference, and Strong recruiting base...Strong is Strong.

joe on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 12:43 PM

Phil, is there more info on the Shanahan guy? Did I see him as the Texan's OC?

Phil on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 12:50 PM

yeah, Kyle Shanahan is the OC in Houston. He was offered the OC job at Minnesota but he declined the job because he wants to be in the NFL.

His actual quote was ""I wanted to stay here, I wanted to be in the NFL. My dad has been in the NFL since I was 4 years old. That's what I've always watched. I enjoy the speed of the game, I enjoy the X's and O's part of it. I like studying ball all year round, too. In college you're spending part of the year recruiting and things like that."

Not sure why his name was being thrown around with a quote like that, which is why I found it interesting that it was being mentioned at all.

Phil on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 1:04 PM

the big question mark on Charlie Strong right now is that Virginia might grab him up if they don't hire Mike London out of Richmond.

joe on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 1:05 PM

Stoops is denying being accepted the job at Notre Dame.

Phil on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 1:07 PM

this was posted today on ESPN's college football rumor site:

Names linked to Irish
* Bob Stoops: Hasn't turned it down...yet
* Butch Davis: A recent rumor; no history
* Chip Kelly: Would be tough to pry from Nike's home on the range
* Brian Kelly: The clubhouse leader; immune to losing in recent years
* Gary Patterson: Remarkable run, but has shown loyalty to TCU
* Al Golden: Also linked to Virginia and (eventually) to Penn State
* Jim Harbaugh: Has a new deal at Stanford and solid recruiting class
* Urban Meyer: How many times must we force him to deny it?
* Jon Gruden: We're just reading the papers...

Phil on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 1:39 PM

the problem with butch davis is there aren't a lot of ties to him. it's not a GREAT job anymore, and ND is probably pretty weary about publicly getting turned down for a job. That can cause quite a domino effect as they've seen in the past.

My guess is that Kelly is as good as gone if he wants it

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 11:42 AM

Fuck, it's not over yet but I just want to know if I can get some tickets somewhere.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- According to a source close to the university The Outback Bowl will not select Tennessee as its SEC team for this year's game in Tampa, FL on New Years Day.

The same source says that Auburn will be selected for the Outback Bowl and Ole Miss will be the choice for the Cotton Bowl.

Officials with the Outback Bowl are expected to make an official announcement later Tuesday.

Remaining options for the Vols include: Chick-fil-a Bowl, papjohns.com Bowl, Music City Bowl. But WVLT sources say it will likely be the Chick-fil-a Bowl or the Music City Bowl.

The Capitol One Bowl gets first choice of a non-BCS, SEC team and they are expected to take LSU.

It's anticipated the Vols won't find where they'll be bowling until Selection Sunday.

Stay connected with WVLT and volunteertv.com for details as they become available.

douglas on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 11:49 AM

apparently the outback's not choosing them b/c of so many empty seats last year, hence why they're considering UK and the music city will definitely choose them if given the chance, b/c the fans will travel. the music city chose vandy last year, thinking the home team could increase sales, and it flopped

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 11:51 AM

UK fans will gobble up Outback Bowl tix in record time.

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 11:52 AM

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 12:18 PM

That's awesome if true.

joe on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 12:25 PM

After what Phil said, then a guy at work heard the radio thing about Redman and Strong, then I google searched and found the rumor. Who knows.

Phil on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 12:27 PM

probably not true. if i wasn't drunk as shit last night, I probably wouldn't have gotten as far.

Charlie Strong has two kids. Hailee (11), Hope (8).

Phil on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 12:28 PM

wait, that didn't make sense. The rumor that I heard last night was that Strong's son was enrolled at Trinity.

this was redman's quote:

“I think they've made the decision from what I've heard,” Redman said of Louisville's coaching search. “Sources say that [it's] Charlie Strong. I've heard he's a great guy, too. That's what I heard recently.”

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 12:31 PM

More updates on pointless shit:

Hot

Bowl scenarios: They seemingly change by the hour. At one point, there were discussions aimed at Tennessee going to the Cotton Bowl and perhaps Ole Miss to the Outback Bowl. Then Kentucky entered the Outback picture. The latest scuttlebutt has LSU going to the Capital One, Ole Miss to the Cotton, Auburn to the Outback and the Chick-fil-A trying to decide between Georgia and Tennessee.

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 1:29 PM

Auburn to Outback.

Fuck you Auburn.

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 1:53 PM

Atleast that is what my sources tell me, and they have been pretty good in the past.

douglas on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 2:02 PM

i wish we were all cool enough to have sources

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 2:10 PM

Of course the thing that surprised me was the other bowls did not anticipate Auburn going to the Outback considering they lost 5 of their last 7 and one of their wins was over Furman.

You can have sources too Douglas, Mr. Larry Vaught is a great source.

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 2:15 PM

Seriously, UK could be looking at the Liberty, Independence, or PapaJohns Bowl now because the Outback took Auburn (the 5th place team in the West) over the 2nd place team in the East. Not a good scenario.

joe on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 2:20 PM

Bigworm on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 3:47 PM

So UK plays UNC on Saturday and when do they play UConn?

joe on Wednesday, December 02, 2009 at 8:22 AM

Rex Ryan brought in Yankees manager Joe Girardi to teach Mark Sanchez how to slide. Not sure if he did this but they said that many times they teach QBs to slide using a slip 'n slide.

UNC or Miami.

did we play ball with a seth sklare at st. matthews?

Brent on Wednesday, December 02, 2009 at 1:14 PM

So I got tired of reading articles about the Camm case and the writers not giving a reason why the case was overturned, so just now I decided to call the writer and ask him personally....pretty effective. Although its kind of hard to explain, Im guessing that's why he left it out, lazy reporting.

Douglas, if we did I don't remember him. Why?

douglas on Wednesday, December 02, 2009 at 2:06 PM

Bigworm on Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 10:01 AM

This is a pretty good deal from BU.

Friday, December 11 is Young Alumni Night at the Men's Basketball Game. This is a great opportunity to call up your Bellarmine friends and get the old gang together for a fun night.

The event is $10 per person and includes your ticket to Friday night's game (7:30pm tip vs. Ohio Valley University), a pre-game tailgate in the Norton Health Science Center from 6:15pm - 7:15pm with beer, wine, refreshments, and appetizers, access to the Varsity Room at halftime (beer and refreshments available), and we are even throwing in a ticket to Saturday night's game too (tip at 7:30pm vs. IU Southeast).

Philco - because I am too lazy and I am sure you know this off the top of your head, what is Charlie Strong's buyout from UF?

Phil on Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 11:14 AM

i don't think Charlie Strong has a buyout clause.

Phil on Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 11:18 AM

i've heard that UC has a contract finalized, but not signed, by Kelly.

I believe Stoops and Ferentz have turned down ND, and that ND is focusing on Skip Holtz, Harbaugh and Randy Edsall from Uconn.

Bigworm on Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 11:24 AM

Red and Blue Review said Charlie Strong had a pretty high buyout clause on his contract.

Bigworm on Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 11:27 AM

Skip Holtz is a good coach, of course UK beat him so he can't be that good. And I don't think I'd want to follow in my father's footsteps. Can he possible live up to being the second Holtz at ND?

Phil on Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 11:30 AM

huh, first I've heard of this. Let me do some digging.

Bigworm on Thursday, December 03, 2009 at 11:31 AM

Same thing happened last year, Oregon State win at home and they win the conference and Oregon blew them out at Corvallis. Oregon at Eugene looks like a good bet.

Interesting passage on Bicycle Sports website:

Balaclavas are essential for all-season cyclists. They offer complete head, neck and lower face coverage and protect your lungs from cough-causing cold by warming your breath. This great layer fits easily under any helmet and wicks moisture to create a warm, dry layer next to your skin. And you get that cool cycling-ninja look, too.

Bigworm on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 1:36 PM

Joe - yes the English national team is better than the American national team.

Bigworm on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 1:37 PM

The US team did beat Spain (ranked #1 in the world) and played loss to Brazil 3-2 after leading 2-0 at the halftime in the Confederations Cup last year.

joe on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 1:46 PM

Was the US able to replace the guy who is out from the car wreck? England has Beckham, is he still playing for their national team? Isn't Beckham really not that good for their national team any more? Does Beckham still have game or is just a figure that is living through his fame and persona and kind of overrated now?

joe on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 1:51 PM

England, Slovenia and Algeria is the pool. Do you have to win the pool or just finish in he top 2 to advance? I have a feeling Slovenia and Algeria may be easy matches.

Bigworm on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 1:55 PM

Yeah US had a very lucky draw. We should finish 2-1 in pool play.

douglas on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 2:10 PM

from what i understand about beckham, he's still pretty damn good, though not great. he's not a striker, or scorer, or whatever the fuck the position is, he's like a midfielder or something, so apparently a lot of his impact is not felt on the stat sheet, but rather the flow of the game, think like a great defender in basketball, he's not gonna light up the stat sheet but he's invaluable to the team and is crucial in winning games. at least that's what i've heard about him in my very limited attention paid to that sport

Bigworm on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 2:15 PM

And he is nailing Posh Spice. That has to count for something because she is hot.

Phil on Friday, December 04, 2009 at 2:42 PM

England #9
USA #14
Algeria #28
Slovania #33

probably one of the more favorable draws.

Great line by Jim Caple about the upcoming MLB HOF voteand Fred McGriff

"I'm not sure that's fair to him, though. I think his reputation is hurt by having played for so many teams -- he switched clubs six times -- that no fans were able to really claim him as their own. McGriff moved around so much that if he does reach Cooperstown, the most logical cap for his plaque is the goofy one he wore for the Tom Emanski fundamentals commercial."

I'm making the switch to Direct TV. Anyone currently have direct tv?

"Already a DIRECTV customer? You can get $100 for every friend you refer to DIRECTV. Email them and give them your DIRECTV account number
You can find your account number on your monthly DIRECTV bill or by logging in to directv.com – they'll need it when they order. You'll receive a $10 monthly bill credit for 10 consecutive months for each friend who activates DIRECTV service."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI_X...mp;feature=fvsr

Brock on Sunday, December 06, 2009 at 1:21 AM

I would rather UC play Florida than Alabama. As you may have noticed, there is an issue with the run defense. Tebow scrambling around... that just has our linebackers salivating.

I loved how Kelly said "fuck it, let 'em pass. I'm blitzing linebackers, safeties, punters, and ballboys to stop the run game." Every time UC has tempted a team to pass, they rack up the INTs. The UC defense is built for pass defense not run defense. That's why they have to score early and often on offense to make their defense effective.

Did anyone else notice that Texas lost their game to Nebraska? The clock ran out and they had less points. That equals a loss, right? Oh wait... not if the BCS prefers a scripted Texas vs. SEC game or Notre Dame doesn't want to have to deal with stealing a coach in a national title game. Fuck this bullshit system. Isn't Boise State the only undefeated team to beat a BCS conference champ (Oregon?). They will still sit @ 6 and potentially not make a BCS game. If this year isn't the biggest clusterfuck for the BCS, I wish Nebraska had won.

By the way... if you love Tebow's balls so much. You are more than welcome to join me down in N'Awlins on New Years to watch him be castrated.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, December 07, 2009 at 9:15 AM

I agree with Joe. The BCS sucks. UL basketball sucks. UK (or I should say John Wall) impressed me enough to think UL vs UK is going to be super ugly. And I don't really care about the NFL. Hopefully, there will be some good news for us soon with the coaching announcements for UL and ND.

i want to see that game too, don't misunderstand, i just think they both got screwed, b/c whoever wins, the thinking will still be "well they didn't beat a BCS school," even though i think they could easily handle over half the other teams that got a BCS bowl. they'd prove a lot more by beating a BCS team than each other

Exactly, Douglas. That is exactly why I want to see that game. I thought it was interesting instead of pairing them up in the David vs. Goliath game they said here ya go...fight each other.

I wonder if they match the intensity that Boise State gave OU or Utah gave Bama.

Weis was quoted as responding:

"Let me ask you this question: You guys know about things that go on in different places. Was I living with a grad student in Malibu, or was I living with my wife in my house? You could bet that if I were living with a grad student here in South Bend, it would be national news. He's doing it in Malibu and it's not national news. What's the difference? I don't understand. I can take a pedway from my office at the Galt House to 4th Street Live and never touch the street. In coming back I had awkward eye contact in the pedway with tennis player ex-girlfriend. I wasn't sure at first but on double take it definitely was her. At first I just thought it was a girl doing an awkward strange hair toss, but it turned out to be a notice me hair toss followed by what looked like a why won't you notice me I hope you die for not noticing me death stare.

Phil on Tuesday, December 08, 2009 at 12:54 PM

something like that. Strong is in Arkansas for the assistant coaches award dinner, so news of that leaking out at that time would be advantageous for him to bring in new coaches. It doesn't also hurt that news is leaking that the thing he's holding off for is a guarantee of good salaries for good coaches to come in.

joe on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 2:50 PM

Ummm...NBC, 90% of Catholic men, any coach that wants the Notre Dame money that is usually millions of dollars more then other schools will pay them and sports reporters on radio, tv and in print because people like when you talk about them. If Notre Dame was irrelevant we wouldn't be having these conversations.

Bigworm on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 2:59 PM

Notre Dame isn't relevant in college football anymore, much like UK had become an afterthought. However, with the right hire, they can become relevant again.

joe on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 3:17 PM

The radio just described Orton for UK as Caracter and Cousins illegitimate son. Basically, their point was that Cousins is dumb and talented, caracter was dumb and talented and would play and get 1 rebound in 30 minutes of play and Orton is simply a retarded mix of dumb and talented and worthless.

Phil on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 3:19 PM

best description I've read of wall is that he's like Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez

"It's pretty easy when you play with a bunch of rejects and a fat kid, hey John. Except for Wall, you're all an insult to the game."

douglas on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 3:27 PM

whoever was making that description about orton and cousins is a fucking idiot and making shit up to talk bad about UK. cousins is still kind of a whiny bitch, but that's more or less b/c he's used to doing whatever the hell he wants, but he doesn't resemble caracter at all, especially in terms of talent. he straight up embarrassed UConn's big men several times last night in the second half when he got going. as for orton, he's not as polished as cousins, but he's not worthless and he's still talented as fuck. last night was his worst game this year, he played great against UNC, and he's got a pretty good bball IQ. orton's gonna stick around a few years and will be a very beloved UK player before he leaves.

joe on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 3:42 PM

They never compared Cousins and Caracter. However, if you do compare them, I see a similarity in that they have lacksadasical moments and stupid fouls getting them in foul trouble. They did say that Orton is talented. How it came up was that they were pointing out that at the beginning of the season UKs depth may have been overrated. They are noticing a quick drop off in capable players beyond Wall and Patterson. The talent is there but it is not functional talent yet. Don't even get me started on Samuels.

joe on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 3:46 PM

They also said that UK basketball is a must see in the fact that you will either see highlight basketball or you will see a complete trainwreck of basketball. Wither way it is a must watch. They are trying to do a statistical study of UK 10-0 runs compared to opponents 10-0 runs and see which one outnumbers the other.

Phil on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 3:52 PM

statistical study? ken pomeroy has uk ranked #58 as of last night.

douglas on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 4:17 PM

I wouldn't say UK's been heralded as being very deep, they really only go about 7-8 deep, but in terms of offensive production, it's mainly in the starting lineup, they're right about that. orton will spot you some low post points and good D down low, dodson will guarantee a couple 3's a night, and ramon harris guarantees the best defense on the team, hence why he's always in the game when it's on the line. i wouldn't call them a trainwreck by any means though. the battled both UNC and Uconn pretty hard, and they didn't put them down with 10-0 runs at the end, they put them down by grinding it out and getting some key plays and clutch free throws (calipari's apparent big weakness). what i'm enjoying more is that they're winning that way right now, so when they get more polished (stupid turnovers / fouls are what's keeping teams in the game with them), they're going to be pretty fucking hard to beat. in the last two games, there was no doubt UK had more talent / athleticism, they also made more boneheaded plays than the other teams did too, that's their biggest weakness right now. you can fix boneheaded plays, you can't fix a lack of talent

Mediocrity? Have you noticed the talent UC has. The defense is all underclassmen and Collaros is only a sophomore. The USC transfer Hazelton comes in next year. Whoever takes over as coach is going to have a loaded cupboard to work with. UC will get a top flight coach on the talent alone.

It was the I want a drink but my options are low and it is too cold to go back out to get anything so I looked at my liquor and chose Tuaca over vodka or tequila. Mixer options were Big Red, Sunkist, Blue Powerade Zero or Red Powerade Zero.

Bigworm on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 2:27 PM

joe on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 2:30 PM

As of now it sounds like B.Y.O.E. (bring your own everything). I plan to do high life dogs and maybe chili and I am assuming cuban will bring queso. I have a little jager in the house that can go into the machine. If everyone brings a food item and a bottle of something I figure we can all share and have a good time.

douglas on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 10:29 AM

yup, recessed lights are in and attached to switches now, just need to finish installing the electrical outlets. framing's done, supposed to start drywalling probably tomorrow or Wednesday. when that's done, i'm going to take a few days off and paint before they finish the trimwork and flooring

Phil on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 10:56 AM

Year of the road trip. Our buddy Kris is friends with Rondo's brother so he got us the hook up with Celtics v Bulls tickets and got to meet Rondo. It was a good trip.

But yeah, I got separated from the herd, Rory told them he thought my cell phone was dead so no sense bothering texting me, and they continued to try and get laid.

I felt loved, but lord knows I would have done the same.

I've heard nothing but good things about "The U." Colin Cowherd was talking about things in the past we always overreacted about, "The U" was not one of them. They were legit. If anything we underreacted to the vulgarity that was the U.

they don't retire numbers at rupp, only jerseys, they'd run out of numbers

Bigworm on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 1:14 PM

That's the difference between UofL fans and UK fans. UofL fans don't have a sense of pride to be one with their team. UK fans live UK basketball and football. If you don't say "we" and you are a UK fan, your fandom is checked.

Bigworm on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM

CFN showing Coach Brooks some love, was named SEC COY.

Wrecking Crew on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 9:32 PM

"We" has nothing to do with fandom and team pride. You can be the biggest fan, but if you didn't play there or go to school there get over it. I don't remember any of you graduating from UK. And "live" football, I don't think so. For the longest time people just showed up to drink at games, and said wait til basketball season.

Cheryl on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 11:02 PM

so being a life-long UK fan, against all instincts, Lynnie (UL fan) and I went to the UL game tonight. We left with 5 minutes left to go and each had a ticket stub worth a free large pizza from Papa Johns and a free queso from Tumbleweed. It was good times watching Papa John himself hit the half court shot that bought each ticket holder a free large pizza. You know that he had to be a little pissed when he hit that shot.

joe on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 7:46 AM

I never redeem my queso ticket stub, or formerly the Rally burger or Qdoba taco.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 8:23 AM

The game was even better since I realized the Qdoba taco challenge is still around. On top of the pizza and queso, we get a free chips and salsa from the Doba since the Cards scored over 90 points. If we would have scored a few more points, we would have gotten the taco. Is it poor sportsmanship to cheer for 100 points when you're already up by about 30 to get free food? I guess that's better than the sarcastic cheer for free queso in a loss by 20 points.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 8:25 AM

We're also going to be on TV in a way. Papa John was filming a national commercial at the game to be aired during march madness.

Bigworm on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 8:27 AM

UK + fans = "we" or "us". There is a sense of pride with fans being one with their team at UK. I am sorry that you UofL fans just don't understand it and you never will. It is what it is. So you can go ahead laugh at me because I say "we" call me a dumb hick or whatever else you will. It is what it is, so fuck off.

And in the who gives a shit department, Derek Character had 15 last night for UTEP vs. Ole Miss.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 8:47 AM

We're going to beat a dead horse on this subject, but as a fan, you are not really "we." You do not really get to be we unless you are on the team or graduated from the school. Even graduating from the school doen't really count. Do you think the players give a fuck about any of the fans except for self serving purposes? Do you think you have any bearing on the outcome of a game? "We" can be referred to a group of fans, but when your team wins or loses you did not. You can have pride for you team, but you do not have the some part of "we" sitting in the stands or on your couch.

Either that or I'm just a jaded, cynical, ass.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 8:48 AM

Big Ten, who cares? Hoping they don't raid the Big East. And most of teh teams they're taliking about don't really seem to help the football conference too much.

Bigworm on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 8:51 AM

I think you are a cynic. Perhaps if you played at a "legit school" with an athletic department you would feel differently. Or maybe it is your training as a doctor that is causing you to disconnect and compartmentalize the different aspects of your life. Who knows?

At the end of the day, we can agree to disagree.

joe on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 8:57 AM

I think playing at a legit school would even more take away from the "we." If I was a D-I player at a legit school and I heard some idiot fan say we it would piss me off. The big lebowski sums it up well: you know the royal we as in I.

Brent on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 8:58 AM

consolation bracket, and i think UK plays austin peay

Bigworm on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 10:43 AM

And then UK plays Drexel on ESPNU (with Mashburn as an analyst) as we go for 2000.

Yes coming from a man that physically abused his players and shoots his friends. I think he should shut the fuck up. He even struck Coach Joe B. Hall in person once. What an assclown.

douglas on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:21 AM

i saw that, just reminded me why i can't stand him. the last two championships were won by a team that had just gotten off probation (kansas) and the coach that put them there (roy williams) and he calls out UK's integrity, the same guy that talking about integrity that choked players and threw chairs on the court, there's a reason he's not coaching anymore. it's amazing how much more i like indiana now that he's gone

douglas on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:21 AM

you beat me to it i guess

joe on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:26 AM

You like IU with nim gone because now that he is gone because UK can finally beat them. I don't mind Bobby Knight. You know what your getting yourself into when you sign with him. Would I want to play for him, hell no.

Bigworm on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:28 AM

I think this headline says it all: "Bobby Knight swings at John Caliparie and Knocks Himself Out"

http://ballhype.com/story/bobby-kni...ari-and-knocks/

douglas on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:29 AM

uh, uk used to kick knight's ass all over the floor, indiana wasn't very relevant his last ten years there, they only stayed in the headlines b/c of his antics. i agree you know what you get with him if you play for him, i was referring more to his mouth and how nothing was ever his fault, to this day he still doesn't take responsibility for his own downfall as a coach and just blamed the administration for getting rid of him, when they gave him way too many chances to change

douglas on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:30 AM

i like crean a lot, he'll have them relevant again in a couple years, if not next year

Bigworm on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:30 AM

Knight is what Knight is. We can leave it at that.

Bigworm on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:31 AM

I was glad UK passed Crean over, but I agree. I like Crean and would have been happy with him at UK. Of course, now we have the best recruiter in the land so I am happy with that too.

douglas on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:41 AM

knight's coming to UK february 13 with espn, should be fun

Bigworm on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 12:06 PM

Also, on ESPN 1st take they said that UK could have Charles Manson as their HC and as long as they won the fans wouldn't care.

Fans aren't that happy with that comment. Fans are already emailing UK's AD and the President to look into it.

stew on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 8:42 AM

joe on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 10:15 AM

Father Domhoff's mom, the old lady across the street that the ambulance came for Fridat night died Saturday.

The BluRay player came from Laura's bro we came to find out.

Can't get the NHL network because Insight is ran by people that care more about cooking and home repair than sports. Only HD hockey I get are the FSN and the rare Blackhawks game on WGN. It's retarded.

I need to get me some DirecTV for next season, no doubt.

douglas on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 7:50 PM

rivers got sacked three times and threw two picks so that took off his score, and receivers always more points per yard than QB's in about every league. i had rivers in my pay league going up against jackson too and jackson outscored rivers there as well

Facebook is a place where married people go to flirt with their old high school boyfriend/girlfriend and not feel guilty about it. Then when their marriages really go down the tubes, they call up their old fling to help keep them from feeling fat and ugly. Merry Christmas.

douglas on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 11:47 AM

wes, that's not the tip of the iceberg regarding how fucked up that bill is, it raises taxes for four years and nothing is implemented until 2014, and introduces a shitload of taxes that no one's talking about. and you're not the only one that's doing that. every vote on healthcare has occurred in the middle of the night when no one's paying attention, LA is getting over $300 million in pork to get the vote of the LA democratic senator, chris dodd, senator from CT, is getting $100 million to finish building a hospital b/c he's facing a tough re-election next year (against probably wwe's linda mcmahon no less), and nebraska is completely exempt from most of these new taxes in order to get that vote from ben nelson, their senator, so essentially only 49 states are going to pay for this

Bigworm on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:27 PM

I don't mind the people picking up some money for a hospital and the such, but to have all the other states pick up the tab for Nebraska....I mean c'mon that opens the door up for any and everything in the future.

douglas on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:42 PM

your innocence is so refreshing. that's the idea, the hospital is a physician owned hospital, which means who stands to benefit the most? the doctors with a stake in it, so they can go back and get doctors support for the healthcare bill, and when re-election time comes, they can say "oh of course i voted for healthcare, look at these doctors that endorsed it, they know better than anybody." there are a lot more examples than just that, the bill that is supposed to be deficit neutral if completely full of handouts. of course it opens the door for more government control, that's the entire idea behind reform. now they can go back and raise taxes on say soda, or fast food, or anything that could potentially be labeled bad for you, all in the name of saving your health. if they're paying for your healthcare, then they're in essence responsible for what you do to your body. so smoking, drinking, any fatty foods, skydiving, driving, flying, anything at all that poses a potential "risk" to your body and/or your health presents an opportunity to be taxed. think of social security, or welfare, unemployment, medicare, or any government program, you start it, then over the years it keeps getting bigger and bigger, so more and more people depend on it. so people become less and less independent and more dependent on government programs. and joe can tell you how efficient the government is at administering its programs. the more you pay attention the more obvious it becomes.

Bigworm on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:46 PM

oh I didn't realize it was a physician owned hospital. That sucks.

I am just waiting for Texas to start a war. You know they want to.

Bigworm on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 3:23 PM

There is a petition going around with UK fans wanting Barhart to honor the 1975 UK team when GameDay comes to Lexington. The reason why is because Knight claims his 1975 team was his greatest team and UK beat them for a spot in the final four. He still hates UK (obviously) because of this beating.

Bigworm on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 3:23 PM

Barnhart

douglas on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 3:25 PM

Joe B said Knight was always very nice to him early in his tenure as UK's coach b/c indiana was beating UK regularly, but after UK rattled off like 12 out of 15 wins in the series, Knight became increasingly less friendly

Bigworm on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 3:28 PM

Yeah I think Knight won 10 of 27 games against UK....and most of those wins were early.

none of us are even pretending to do any work today. all the bosses are gone, and they pretty much told us yesterday not to sweat working today. i'm off all next week, so my motivation isn't very staggering

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM

I've made my monthly production already, but they are pressuring us for our station to meet our monthly goal. It is kind of lame that I must keep working beyond my monthly goal.

Bigworm on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:10 AM

I am here

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:16 AM

Out of boredom, lets talk new years.

New Years all decade team (people that have made all 9 and better make it to 10):
Joe
Chris
Joanna
Wes
Brock
Michele
Jay

Phil and Brody, I can't remember the first couple if you made it? Did I leave anyone else out?

Bigworm on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:17 AM

Has Adrian made them all?

Bigworm on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:20 AM

No I don't think he has.

Brock on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:51 AM

Michelle and I will probably miss this year.

Anyone want to get a hoops game together this weekend? I am far less likely to destroy my body on the court than playing flag football.

Brock on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:53 AM

I am now going to bring some Christmas cheer to the lab mice by stabbing them in the face with a big ass needle. Ho ho ho!

Bigworm on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:07 PM

Where are you playing hoops at?

Wrecking Crew on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:09 PM

Come on, Brock, we need to renew our shot glass checkers game. Are you all headed to see the Bearcats? Speaking of New Year's, who is going to make it to new years this year?

Anyone want to go out Xmas night? THe Big Rock Show is playing at Dutch's.

I could be talked in to playing some basketball, but are we really going to play outside? If we're playing outside I'd be more interested in football if we could get the people together.

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:20 PM

I'll play.

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:27 PM

Basketball indoors somewhere. We have no shot of getting enough people for football. Atleast with basketball we can have brock and his brothers, me and chris and play 3 on 3 or a giant game of 21.

Phil on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:34 PM

I didn't make it to new years until the third or fourth one

douglas on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 12:38 PM

i'll play bball or football

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 1:05 PM

We could show up and play football against those guys I used to randomly play with every week. They still show up to Seneca Park at noon on Sunday.

Phil on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 2:30 PM

brohm is practicing with the Bills first team.

Brohm vs Redman - SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:09 PM

I sRedman starting? I thought Ryan was back.

Phil on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:11 PM

oh yeah, i forgot ryan shit the bed against the Jets last week

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:37 PM

Jeff Brohm just confirmed Phil's statement on the radio

Phil on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:43 PM

there was a poll on the The Buffalo News website asking who should start. Brohm was winning at 91%. I think it's funny that he's gone from a failure in Green Bay to the great new hope in Buffalo. We are a hopelessly optimistic bunch.

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:45 PM

I want TO and Brohm to get into it.

Phil on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:48 PM

if Brohm checks down as often as he did in Green Bay, then there's a good chance that will happen

Brock on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:52 PM

I have a lot of potential conflicts with New Years. Potentially going to New Orleans (Getting Bent in N'Awlins vs. Getting Bent in No Tent). Michelle works New Year's Eve and Jan 2. A big party in Nashville for New Years and the Explorer has officially stranded me within the confines of Nashville.

Of course, all of the above conflicts are not set in stone, so who knows.

Brock on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:55 PM

I was thinking about playing bball indoors. One of Chip's friends can get access to the St. Albert gym (or could up until 6 months ago when we last wanted to play). Outdoor ball in the cold kinda sucks, so hopefully the indoor option will be available.

How come one of you bastards hasn't made enough money to build an indoor court in their basement?

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:57 PM

I remember sitting at your parents house waiting until we decided that your brother's friend was a whore.

Brock on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 4:00 PM

I forgot about that time. Thanks for reminding me. I will punch him in the stomach next time I see him.

joe on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 4:06 PM

It is supposed to be rainy over the weekend so outside basketball is a horrible idea. If it snows I am down for football.

Phil on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 4:07 PM

joe on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 9:52 AM

How much is too much to drink before church?

Brock on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 10:44 AM

I dislike working today as well.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 11:24 AM

I guess you're going to church tonight with mom and dad? What time are you headed over?
