It seems like about two years since I've an episode

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 12:42 PM

Just another reason to not do crack...

Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor was arrested early Thursday after being accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at a Montebello, N.Y., hotel, police said.

joe on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 1:05 PM

DVR was checked last night, still set from the last big game.

Phil on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 1:10 PM

watching the last episode as we speak to try and remember wtf is going on.

The districts realigned and he switched schools. Riggins went to college.

Bigworm on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 1:20 PM

I haven't seen that show in forever. What station (NBC?) and when does it come on?

Is Riggins playing college football or just growing up?

Phil on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 1:22 PM

Everyone went to college, right? All that's left is that McCoy kid.

Bigworm on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 1:24 PM

McCoy? Is he the QB?

Gosh I haven't seen that show in ages.

Phil on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 1:24 PM

McCoy is the kid with the golden arm and the rich prick of a dad.

Bigworm on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 1:25 PM

Doesn't ring a bell. I was thinking of Saracen.

Bigworm on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 1:34 PM

Phil on Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 5:13 PM

there's a paved trail near work.

I'm working on a "Big Ben is the first QB to ever be thankful for Lawrence Taylor" team name

Bigworm on Friday, May 07, 2010 at 8:17 AM

Joe - Since you are the crafty lefty and all that, what is your take on the A Rod vs. Oakland A's non-seasoned pitcher about the unwritten rules of the game? Does the young player have a point or is he just enjoying his name in the paper?

joe on Friday, May 07, 2010 at 8:22 AM

Don't fuck with my mound, I don't care who you are. Stand his ground even if he is a nobody. I hate A-Rod.

Bigworm on Friday, May 07, 2010 at 8:23 AM

A-Rod is a first rate douchebag. I hope the kid beans him in the head.

Bigworm on Friday, May 07, 2010 at 8:26 AM

adrian on Friday, May 07, 2010 at 9:30 AM

I looked at some of my old runs in nike plus from 2006. It is depressing to see that I use to run 20 minute 5ks.

joe on Friday, May 07, 2010 at 9:37 AM

What happened?

joe on Friday, May 07, 2010 at 10:14 AM

Rumored Rondo being gaurded by Lebron tonight.

Brock on Friday, May 07, 2010 at 10:25 AM

Adrian -
Are you depressed because you can't run those anymore or are you depressed because you are blowing those numbers out of the water now and you can't believe you were that slow?

Depressed I am not running those times anymore

Phil on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 4:32 PM

8 more days until red dead redemption comes out

joe on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 8:24 PM

Wow, I just spent a shitload on a hotel and plane for B-Macs wedding. Out of town weddings suck. Throw in the clothes and a gift and it is outrageous

Bigworm on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 8:42 PM

It has begun.

Per ESPN text update:

WHB Radio (KC): Big Ten extended offers to Notre Dame, Missouri, Nebraska, and Rutgers to join league

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 8:35 AM

joe, what are you plans for the wedding? when are you flying out / back?

joe on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 8:58 AM

I am leaving tuesday and visiting laura's family and coming back Sunday night.

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 9:13 AM

when were you heading up to PA? It looks like I'm going to fly in Thursday morning. I'm trying to decide on the cheapest flight into BWI and renting a car to drive an hour and a half, or flying into Harrisburg for a little more but not having to rent a car

joe on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 9:14 AM

Friday sometime

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 10:31 AM

i'm booked now, i'm just flying into harrisburg and getting picked up at the airport by karen so i don't have to fuck with a rental car from baltimore. going up thursday morning and coming back sunday afternoon

joe on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 11:15 AM

Not bad. We are knocking out the visit of her family at the same time so we won't have to go back to that area a second time this summer.

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 11:18 AM

now i have to go at lunch to my rental condo, some asshole stole the a/c unit while i was out of town last week

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 11:18 AM

Wow, that really sucking sucks. Sorry to hear that Douglas.

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 11:27 AM

Wow. Okalona suscking sucks

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 1:49 PM

now that i'm an east end snob again i completely agree

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 1:49 PM

I am guessing you filed a police report, what did they say? Do they think some jackass is going to try to scrap it or what?

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 1:58 PM

sarah actually filed the report so i don't know what they said to her, i was out of town when she did it. i assumed it was for scraps, however after i went out there and saw it, they didn't cut the wires close to the building, they cut them close to the unit, leaving a lot of copper in the wires coming out of the walls, so maybe it was someone who just needed one, i don't know. i just hope they're fucking happy with it b/c this has been a major pain in my ass

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 2:46 PM

I just ordered my laptop for pharmacy school. Yes, I finally came into the 21st century because I now have a computer you can sit in your lap. Or maybe that is just 20th century technology.

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 3:38 PM

douglas on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 3:39 PM

joe on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 3:41 PM

Golf was expected. I am curious where it will go from there.

Bigworm on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 3:43 PM

So there was a plane crash in Libya with 93 passengers and 11 crew members. One passenger survived, and he is a 10 year old Dutch boy with non-life threatening injuries - in fact they pretty much say he came out unscathed. I've seen video and pictures of that wreckage, not sure how he survived.

The Regulate, Control, and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010 for California's potential of legalizing the wacky weed.

http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/im.../initiative.pdf

Bigworm on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 12:26 PM

2. According to surveys, roughly 100 million Americans (around 1/3 of the country’s population) acknowledge that they have used cannabis, 15 million of those Americans having consumed cannabis in the last month. Cannabis consumption is simply a fact of life for a large percentage of Americans. - I love how they are saying fuck it, let's just tax it.

Bigworm on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 12:31 PM

Nice lay out of the penalties.

Section 4: Prohibition on Furnishing Marijuana to Minors Section 11361 of the Health and Safety Code is amended to read: Prohibition on Furnishing Marijuana to Minors (a) Every person 18 years of age or over who hires, employs, or uses a minor in transporting, carrying, selling, giving away, preparing for sale, or peddling any marijuana, who unlawfully sells, or offers to sell, any marijuana to a minor, or who furnishes, administers, or gives, or offers to furnish, administer, or give any marijuana to a minor under 14 years of age, or who induces a minor to use marijuana in violation of law shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for a period of three, five, or seven years. (b) Every person 18 years of age or over who furnishes, administers, or gives, or offers to furnish, administer, or give, any marijuana to a minor 14 years of age or older shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for a period of three, four, or five years. (c) Every person 21 years of age or over who knowingly furnishes, administers, or gives, or offers to furnish, administer or give, any marijuana to a person aged 18 years or older, but younger than 21 years of age, shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for a period of up to six months and be fined up to $1,000 for each offense. (d) In addition to the penalties above, any person who is licensed, permitted or authorized to perform any act pursuant to Section 11301, who while so licensed, permitted or authorized, negligently furnishes, administers, gives or sells, or offers to furnish, administer, give or sell, any marijuana to any person younger than 21 years of age shall not be permitted to own, operate, be employed by, assist or enter any licensed premises authorized under Section 11301 for a period of one year.

Speaking of Bellarmine, I ran into Coah Wiggy today. No real news just some small talk.

douglas on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 8:17 AM

i don't mind seeing people from Bellarmine, what's funny though is that my high school 10-yr reunion is next month, and our class president is on facebook pleading with people to send their money in b/c no one's paid in advance and she might have to cancel it. i think pretty much everyone on the list, including myself, is in the "Awaiting Reply" category b/c we're waiting to see who else is going. this is much more of a situation where i don't really have much of a desire to see anyone i went to school with

Joe, What the fuck were you doing at 0630 on Sat morning?

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 9:37 AM

So Saturday night turned into a bit of an experiment, see if the altitude affects how fast you get drunk. I highly recommend drinking at altitude, especially on someone else's dime. Let's just say I didn't make day #2 of the conference.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 9:40 AM

Brock, Bourbon's is a little out of our league. It's more of an expensive dinner place. The bar in the bar in the front is nice and probably has a better bourbon selection than Makers, but it's too classy for the average night out. They do make a mean egg nog at Christmas.

Bigworm on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 4:13 PM

I agree Jay. After Season 1 it went downhill. I had a ton of episodes on my DVR that I lost when my DVR crashed. I looked forward to trying to figure out what happened, but looks like I won't get my chance. Oh well, nothing lost.

Brock, it's Bourbon's Bistro by the way, a very nice restaurant with like 130+ bourbons in stock in the bar. Very good restaurant, but like chris said, not cheap.

douglas on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 8:45 AM

i stayed with heroes through about half way of season 2, then i missed a couple episodes, tried to come back, and was completely lost. i think they just brought too many 'heroes' on and the storylines started getting too confusing to keep up with. that first season was top notch though, i refused to miss an episode

Well, I am having Surgery Friday to remove the transplanted kidnet.

Phil on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2:23 PM

Do you think they'll let you keep the transplanted kidney in like a jar or something?

Bigworm on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2:50 PM

What is the deal with removing the transplanted kidney? Is your body attacking it and is it causing more harm than good??

And looks like Darnell Dodson is going to be at UK next year.

joe on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2:53 PM

Are you getting a new one or are they just taking out random things? Dodson stays because they need bodies?

Bigworm on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 3:29 PM

Eloy Vargas committed to UK over the weekend, he is a transfer from UF that was a 4-star two years ago. If I had to guess, I would think with EV and Dodson coming back that Jones is going to stay at UW. Just my thinking of course.

joe, will called me, he's flying up thur morning and trying to get on the same flights as me. he said he talked to bmac's brother and was expecting us maybe around 7 or so saturday night, he's supplying all the beer that he's been brewing and apparently damn katie has a cousin that works at miller transportation so we're looking at having a bus drive our asses out that night, I really hope it's a short bus. that would seem the most appropriate

Wrecking Crew on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 4:28 PM

The question still remains, what type of bachelor party is this going to be? The standard drunken walk down Baxter, suiting up and going to 4th Street, something a little more depraved, or some sort of combination?

joe on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 4:29 PM

I talked to b-mac yesterday and he discussed the bus. He wasn't sure about people crashing at his brothers because of damn Katie and the baby.

joe on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 4:31 PM

B-mac didnt specify. He sounded like anything we want is ok with him. I think his brother is the one in control of where the evening goes.

douglas on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 4:37 PM

he said he didn't think his brother would mind us crashing, just be quiet, i think he has a pretty large house now, damn doctors. i don't know if its 4th street or baxter yet, but I'd imagine it'll be a pretty decent drunkfest. i've seen his brother fucked up and he's just as 'interesting' as bmac is when he's hammered. oh, and intern's not coming down either to rain on our parade

joe on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 5:25 PM

Bigworm on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 10:34 AM

Didn't intern have a hole in her shorts at the Bats game and she actually cared about it? Tightly wound, oh yeah!

Considering Bmac took button downs and slacks to New Orleans when it was a thousand degrees and humid as fuck, I'd say he'd prefer suiting up. Of course, my attire of shorts, and flip flops proved to be not so great an idea either as I was sloshing around in piss in all the rest rooms I visited.

joe on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 1:28 PM

I just got a call from b-mac that sounded important so I leave my desk and go outside and he asks "would you want a burger or hot dog Saturday night at my brothers?" I say sure. He gets specific wanting the exact burger dog both, 2 of something. That kid is odd.

douglas on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 1:30 PM

haha, I just got the exact same call, i answer the phone, he goes "you got a few minutes?" in a serious tone, I say sure what's up, he goes "just wondering if you'd like to maybe grill some burgers and hot dogs after golf on saturday?

Phil on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 1:40 PM

I don't know guys.

On one hand, if you get both you get variety. But what if you start eating the burger and it is so juicy - like the best burger you've ever had. And then you've said you want both so you can't get a second one.

That'd be bullshit

Brock, want to collaborate on something for my project next year? And by collaborate I mean other people need to do most all of the work while I add some minimal contribution so I can put my name somewhere on it.

Wes, research isn't really what has driven me to private practice. I mean you're expected to do some, but you're not going to get fired if you don't do it, at least not at UL. Dealing with the dregs of society for a fraction of the pay has lead me to private practice. The hating research thing has to do with the charade we put on at UL requiring a publishable project per year when we have little to no faculty support and there is really no emphasis on research. Then a couple times a year they expect some great project out of us. Fucking retarded.

Unfortunately, since my research is so basic, you would probably have to do a lot of hands on stuff to really get any credit (i.e. massacring mice). All of my stuff is cell signaling research for NF-kappaB, so if you know of a disease or drug that works via NF-kappaB, then we might be in business.

You probably need something a little more clinical.

I just had an awkward conversation. A girl younger then me and a woman that has worked at the VA for 40+ years were talking about hot guys vs good looking guys. They brought me into the conversation asking about hot guys and I felt out of place in their talk about abercrombie models vs ralph lauren models. When cornered in the break room I added some bs about does the guy look like he likes girls more then himself or is he the all american qb good at everything guy? The old lady drops a my daughters friend married a guy like that. After she drooled over him for a few minutes she says something about I think he went to St. X and his name is Orr. I go "Wes?" It was. I go, "In intramural football he could throw a touchdown pass to himself." She then talks about her daughters friend who is married to him and about how they just had a kid and said "those two are too good looking to breed, my husband said 'I hope they have an ugly baby'." She asked if I knew the Moyers. I say, "I played baseball when I was 13 with a kenny. He had a hot sister that came to his little league games. It embarrassed him." Old lady responds, "that is her."

In summary, another louisville is too small story, old ladies drool over wes orr and I thought wes orr's wife was hot when she came to my little league games 13 years ago.

Phil, now that you've had your Droid for a while, what do you think about it?

Is the slide out keyboard worth it?

Phil on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 12:44 PM

I like the slideout keyboard because I sent a lot of text messages because I'm anti-social and dislike talking on the phone

Phil on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 12:45 PM

My two complaints though. One, you gotta remember to charge it a lot more than a normal phone mainly because you use it a whole lot more. I bought a nice little phone charger / dock that turns the droid into a mini music player / alarm clock thingy that is slick for work so that helps. But if I go out of town for a weekend I'm fucked if I don't bring a charger which I never remember.

The other complaint I have is that it's a little slow. The processor could be quicker. Apparently the next OS will improve speed quite a bit but I'm not holding my breath.

Brent on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 12:56 PM

Because you go out of town so much.

Brock, remember when Playstation and N64 came out, there were a ton of games for Playstation and no games for N64. Well, thats kind of how it is with the Droid versus the iPhone when you compare the apps available. The apps are a big part of what makes the iPhone great.

Brock on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 8:34 PM

I'm not too worried about the Apps. There will be more than I could ever use on either platform. Most of the good Apps coming out are available for both platforms anyway.

I guess Apple's screening process would give me piece of mind, but I don't care for that kind of authoritarian system (hence my sticking with PC).

The battery life issue doesn't bother me since I keep my phone on vibrate all day which zaps the power and I have to charge nightly anyway.

I read that using the slide-out keypad was a pain on the Droid and I love my Voyager's keypad.

With all of the online options, what is the smallest calling plan you can get for the Droid? Michelle and I currently split 700 minutes and we never even get close to that each month.

I wouldn't say texting makes you anti-social. I think its a much preferred alternative to most of the voice calling needs. Its perfect for being in noisy places like bars, sporting events, and concerts. If I need to ask someone a trivial question, the text message is the perfect means because I'm not demanding that person's time to answer the phone right then and there (alleviating the guilt of asking Jay about some comic book character at 10pm).

Joe,
How far down your leg does your pain go?

joe on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 8:42 PM

Does Brody still read this?

Some foot numbness, but most the pain is a calf cramping feeling and very strong stabbing pain in the hamstring area.

Right now I am rocking drugs, heat, muscle relaxant and rest. As chris pointed out, the doctor said bulging disc, but there isn't an MRI to verify it.

Brock / Michelle

Not sure if you guys are still interested in the ol' Accord, but I just got it out of the shop and it's running fine. Just put a brand new battery, new oil change and new brake pads put on. It had sat for so long they charged me $4 for air freshner :(

Things currently wrong with it:
1) The rotors are a bit rusty, but not dangerous at all. They just squeal. The mechanics recommended that I keep them because they were safe and it'd cost a bunch to replace
2) It makes a slight grinding noise if you take a sharp right turn quickly. Got me
3) A few barely detectable leaks that the mechanics also said would be silly to fix.

All in all Smith Autos said the car was incredibly solid and would run for a long time in its current state.

Willing to part with it for $500 (about the cost of what I had to put into it to get it up and running)

Brock on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 4:18 PM

SOLD!

As soon as we can find an opportune time to get back into town, we'll stop by.

The fact that the Accord can go in reverse beats the hell out of the old Explorer, which is essentially holding the street down and giving birds a place to take a crap at the moment.

I'm tempted to enter it into a demolition derby.

They want me to rank his "vitality". They asked me to describe him. I included "Marc is always a guy you can count on to say he'll help you move".

Brock on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 7:50 PM

I got the same thing. I was also thrown for a loop with the "vitality" question.

From Websters:
vi·tal·i·ty - 1 a : the peculiarity distinguishing the living from the nonliving

I made my decision based on the fact that Marc is more living than nonliving.

Another way to ask the question: "Is this person a zombie or a vampire?"

Wrecking Crew on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 6:49 PM

I feel old. My neighbors invited me over to play redneck golf. We got to talking and they graduated high school in 2004. I thought about it for a second and realized I graduated med school in '05 and joe graduated BU in '04. They quit playing to go take a nap before going out tonight. I may just call it a night now and go to bed.

joe on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 11:08 PM

Live band knew top gun song, dino douglas and I nailed it. Apparently we had a reputation that b-mac and intern had told Interns family. We were not looked upon nicely at first.

Jay on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 7:52 AM

joe on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 8:48 AM

Will's wife have a great zoomed in picture of the tears. I heard the tears stopped when Will and I provided comedy relief by getting the runner stuck when unrolling it right before intern walked down the aisle.

douglas on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 8:54 AM

yeah, bmac had his face contorted in all sorts of ways to try and keep from crying, it was comical, of course intern didn't even try to stop it, she was crying like a baby

yeah, her friends and family all treated us like we were idiots at first until we got on her cousin / wedding planner about it and told her we were actually quite smart and educated, contrary to popular opinion, plus we provided all comic relief during the wedding ceremonies. i think me starting to strip for intern's mom really helped loosen them up

I root for Germany and Switzerland
Ty roots for Brazil and Morocco (not this year!)
Chip roots for Mexico and England

We all root for USA

You appreciate the strategy when you have to move those little men all over the screen to get a decent shot. Its even better that I know when a play is about to happen because there are just places on the pitch that when the ball goes, things get nuts.

Bigworm on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 10:51 AM

Soccer isn't big here. I read somewhere that soccer was the biggest youth sport in the US, but most lose interest in the game as they mature. Probably because of the salary differential in the potential to earn money in baseball, golf, football, and basketball vs. soccer.

Kids recognize that the game is a communist sport and un-American. What kind of a sport is it if you can't use your hands? Who the hell wants to play in a sport when you cheer for a tie? Youth soccer is huge b/c a bunch of kids can play at the same time, nobody gets left out, and the game can end in a tie. Nobody loses, everybody wins, everyone plays. Fucking gay.

douglas on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1:20 PM

joe on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1:23 PM

I really feel the need to watch the King of the Hill episode where Hank coaches the football team and they all quit to go play soccer for "The Wind"

Also, did you hear about that soccer league where if you beat a team by too many goals, your team forfeits?

Bigworm on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1:27 PM

Unlike baseball, basketball and football, the score actually counts for something else than a win or loss. In world cup you get one point for each tie, and if two teams tie in a group you go to the goal differential as the tie breaker. So in real soccer, you try to beat the shit out of your opponent and run the score up.

Truly the only sport I know where if you don't like something then you better do something about it.

joe on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1:28 PM

I don't like losing so I win.

Bigworm on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1:28 PM

I am also guessing that soccer dies down in the US because it is a non-revenue generating sport so you won't get much of a scholarship to go to college. Not sure how the baseball scholarships work.

Bigworm on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1:31 PM

I am sorry, my nieces made the U9 league (9 and under).

If England beats Algeria today: The USA must beat Algeria next week and England must also beat Slovenia. USA and England advance.

If Algeria beats England today: The USA must beat Algeria next week. USA and Slovenia advance.

If England and Algeria tie today:
1. The USA must beat Algeria next week. USA and winner of England-Slovenia advance.
or
2. USA-Algeria must end in a draw, England-Slovenia must end in a draw, and the USA must have scored more total goals than England. In this very unlikely case, USA and Slovenia advance.

joe on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 2:01 PM

So pretty much the US is screwed because they won't win.

Phil on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 2:50 PM

Well, one of the reasons France has been so good in the past is they took all the good Algerians.

Brock on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:19 PM

If England wins and then ties with Slovenia, the US can still advance if they kick the shit out of Algeria and win the goal differential.

Brock on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:20 PM

Moot point, Algeria and England just tied 0-0. Thrilling match there.

Bigworm on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:23 PM

Thanks Philco for the advance breakdown.

Brock on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:23 PM

Does advancement depend on total goals scored or goal differential?

I always thought it was goal differential.

Bigworm on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:25 PM

I was thinking it was goal differential but if we have three ties for US and England the goal differential would be zero, so I would assume it would be goals scored next.

joe on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:27 PM

If there are 3 ties then no one should advance. It is like the national league west going to the postseason with a losing record.

Phil on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:28 PM

If the US draws, and Slovenia and England draw, it comes down to tiebreakers. Slovenia would win the group with 5, and England and America would be tied with 3. Here are the variables:

•The first tiebreaker is goal differential. The US and England would have tied all three matches, so we move on.

•The second tiebreaker is goals scored. After two games, the US has scored 3, while England has scored 1. That looks good for the US, as long as the England/Slovenia match isn't high-scoring. It's possible for England and Slovenia to finish 3-3, and the US/Algeria to finish 0-0. In that case England would move on. If England/Slovenia finished, say, 2-2 and the US plays a scoreless draw, we move on to the next tiebreaker.

•The third tiebreaker is points obtained in head-to-head matches. The US and England tied, so we move on.

•The fourth tiebreaker is goal differential in head-to-head matches. Again, a tie.

•The fifth tiebreaker is goals scored head-to-head. That's one apiece, so we move on.

If the US and England are still tied after all the tiebreakers, FIFA draws lots to determine who moves on. Yes, at the most important sporting event in the world, a coin will be flipped to decide the winner.

douglas on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 4:48 PM

i think that would kill any/all momentum the sport of soccer had in gaining popularity in the united states if that happens. if a coin flip kept the US from advancing, everyone in the country would abandon the sport forever, rightfully so

Rambo: First Blood
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Final Destination
Billy Madison

Brock on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 6:36 PM

Yup, Session B is already sold out, so if you want to join us at Session A, better hurry.

Brock on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 6:41 PM

Most Deaths: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Earth destroyed)
Final Destination
Billy Madison (clown dies?)
First Blood (several shot and wounded, but no one dies)

Brent on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 6:55 PM

One person dies in First Blood, he falls out of the helicopter.

Brent on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 6:55 PM

...or chopper.

Phil on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 1:29 AM

Hmmm, maybe that wasn't so tough. You both got it.

Billy Madison has 6 people die - the whole O'Doyle family goes down. One person dies in First Blood, as brent said. Final Destination like 100+ die. And then in Hitchhiker's Guide the whole earth is destroyed so like 6 billion die.

More fuel for the soccer haters.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_...up_1994#Anomaly

The Shell Caribbean Cup
There was an unusual match between Barbados and Grenada.

Grenada went into the match with a superior goal difference, meaning that Barbados were required to win by two goals to progress to the finals. The trouble was caused by two things. Firstly, unlike most group stages in football competitions, the organizers had deemed that all games must have a winner, meaning that all games drawn over 90 minutes would go to sudden death extra time. Secondly and most importantly, there was an unusual rule which stated that in the event of a game going to sudden death extra time the goal would count double, meaning that the winner would be awarded a two goal victory.

Barbados were leading 2-0 until the 83rd minute, when Grenada scored, making it 2-1. Approaching the dying moments, the Barbadians realized they had no chance of scoring past Grenada's mass defence, so they turned around and deliberately scored an own goal to tie the game, which would send it into extra time and give them another half hour to break down the defence. The Grenadians realized what was going on, and attempted to score an own goal as well, which would put Barbados back in front by one goal but would eliminate them from the competition.

However, the Barbados players started defending their opposition's goal to prevent them doing this, and during the game's last five minutes, the fans were treated to the incredible sight of Grenada trying to score in either goal. Barbados also defended both ends of the pitch, and held off Grenada for the final five minutes, sending the game into extra time. In extra time, Barbados notched the game-winner, and, according to the rules, was awarded a 4-2 victory, which put them through to the next round

Brock on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 4:23 PM

In regards to Phil's comments above:

How do you draft half a player? Why 4.5? Isn't "over 4" the same as "over 4.5?" I'm sure there is a gambling lingo I'm missing to explain this.

Can you imagine watching a game when teams are intentionally trying to score own goals? Isn't that pretty easy to do: kick it to the goalie and have the goalie run into the goal with the ball.

Phil on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 4:51 PM

You bet the over or the under. Either they are going to draft under 4.5 players (i.e. 0,1,2,3,4) or over 4.5 players (5,6,7,8,etc). It just saves them from saying "at least 4" or "more than 4" and having to explain whether or not the 4 is included.

Mike and Mike just brought on attorney Jay Bilas to make a calling on "we and us" usage in sports. You can only use we or us if you played for the team or are an alum of the school. You cannot refer to a pro team as we unless you played or worked for them. You can never use we if you ever say they when they lose.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 9:39 AM

That's great stuff. I like Bilas as much as I hate his alma mater.

joe on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:11 AM

The US do not sound like they are doing so hot this game.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:24 AM

US is fine. Already one disallowed goal that should have counted for US.

England is up 1-0

joe on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:27 AM

Rules say any doubt in offsides goes to the attackers advantage which means bad call. FIFA is fixed.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:37 AM

And the US will win the group if England wins.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 12:02 PM

So the US plays the runner up in Group D.

joe on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 12:24 PM

I have a feeling that team will be better then Slovenia and Algeria. So there really is no call if there is a US player in the goal that trucked the goalie going after the ball when Donovan scored?

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 12:27 PM

Joe not sure what you are asking. I believe Altidore kicked the ball and the goalie blocked it but Landon put it in at point blank range off the rebound.

joe on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 12:36 PM

There was a US player that ran over the goalie after the deflection but before the Donovan shot. He ended up behind the goalie but on his back and almost in the goal. I didn't know if there was a rule that basically on a rebound from a shot there is no offsides type calls or anything.

Phil on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 12:54 PM

It's only offsides if you play the ball

Brent on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 1:00 PM

Harsh reality of the night last night.

I went out for my sister's boyfriends 30th birthday party. Anyways, I was talking with one of Jason's buddies. He said something about flag football and this led to me saying something about playing hockey.

Well this absolutely gorgeous girl sitting with him perks up and goes "You play hockey!?" I mean this girl even b-mac would think was a perfect 10 and suddenly she's interested in me. She must be drunk. Awesome

Anyways, I say "yeah" and she immediately goes "I love hockey players! They are all so nice! One of my exes played and he and his friends were all great guys." So I asked who he was and she's all like "oh you wouldn't know him, he's pretty shitty." So I tell her the shittier he is the more likely I know him.

Well she says he name and I've never heard of him. So she goes "well, you probably know his team mate. He's pretty good - Rick Nash."

As in this Rich Nash:

Apparently, he will be in my class at Sullivan.

Wes, I don't know that guy

If anybody is bored and has time to waste, I will take requests for what you think the best design for a homemade water balloon slingshot is. There are designs on the internet, but I have not reviewed them all. Right now I am thinking surgical tubing tied to make a loop a rag attached to make a balloon holder, something for handles on each side and rope tied through washers in the duct taped up rag to create a handle.

Phil on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 1:35 PM

I have two types of surgical tubing on the way. Both are 10' lengths

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLTIowBF0kE

joe on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 1:43 PM

I think we may end up with at least 2 slingshots out of the 20 feet of tubing and 500 water balloons to go along with the arsenal of artillery shells. Get psyched.

Phil on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 1:44 PM

ha, I didn't even think about the two slingshot potential of buying 2 type of surgical tubing.

joe on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 1:50 PM

Or braid the 2 together for a megaslingshot?

adrian on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:05 PM

Wait... Slingshot artillery shell? Fucking brilliant!

Phil on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:06 PM

Oh my

Phil on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:07 PM

what's an estimate on the amount of shells that we have?

adrian on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:12 PM

Joe what do you think... Somewhere around 50-60?I already used 6 cheap shells to test "the launcher"

Phil on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:16 PM

what we could do is put a water ballon filled with gasoline in the slingshot and aim it upwards with a short fuse.

joe on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:18 PM

36 free C4s
18 at Big fireworks
6 bright ones
6 loud ones
12 you bought
-6 you used
24 excaliburs

roughly 100 shells?

joe on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:19 PM

Then there is something I bought that you light it and then it shoots of 30 fireworks. I am intrigued by that one.

adrian on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 2:23 PM

Apparently I did enough work over the last quarter to qualify for an incentive award, but I was too lazy to track certain parts of my work like I was supposed to do for the incentive so now my supervisor has to go through all my work for me to see if I get the incentive. Laziness proves victorious!

douglas on Friday, July 09, 2010 at 1:12 PM

it means that's what i have to pay until we go to full trial, but the (female) judge also threw in back child support and also attorney's fees for shannon. i'm basically paying welfare to shannon and rewarding her for being a lazy worthless P.O.S. because she can't support our kid. it's under appeal, but that process takes forever and we'll be through the full trial before it gets head

Lunch with Cuban at Fat Jimmy's for the buffet. Good shit. RAn into a guy on my bus at lunch who introduced me to his 9 year old son. He told his son that I am the guy responsible for getting him the left handed catchers mitt. His son is left handed and wanted to play catcher so he was just learning to throw right handed. I told him once on the bus to just go to the league and say I need a left handed catchers mitt. He did that and they got him a mitt. Hikes Point basball is a joke Jerome. I made a difference.

His kid was playing on it and a guy bumped him and knocked him over and said sorry and gottlieb went on a radio rant about the guy being a jerk.

Winners and Losers in NBA Summer League.

LOSER: Derrick Favors(notes)

The third pick in the draft averaged just seven shots in the New Jersey Nets’ first four summer league games in Orlando because teammate Terrence Williams(notes) was busy hoisting away. Williams, the Nets’ second-year guard, averaged 19 shots a game.

When the Nets limited Williams to just four minutes in their finale, Favors went for 23 points and 11 rebounds while making 10 of his 17 shots. If the Nets could do it over, they might want to feature Favors a little more prominently.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?sl...merleague071810

joe on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 1:33 PM

I heard nothing but good things about T-Will in summer ball.

Bigworm on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 1:36 PM

I am sure TWill looked great, but as a result of that the #3 pick not so much because he didn't get to showcase his talent.

joe on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 1:42 PM

Make his presence known and demand the ball.

Phil on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 1:55 PM

The article makes it sound like T-Will is just hoisting shit up for giggles. He's shooting 50% from 3pt range and 45% from the field. The Nets are looking to trade them so I'm sure they are quite pleased with him putting up 20+ pts a game even if it means Favors doesn't get all the shots he wants

joe on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 2:04 PM

Is Derrick Caracter making the Lakers?

Phil on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 2:10 PM

Can't imagine he won't. NBA.com lists him as the #3 rookie and the Lakers have 4 roster openings. Ebanks from WVU might get signed instead though

douglas on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 2:15 PM

he'll make the lakers, i think they already pretty much said he would, he had an outstanding summer league. if he doesn't, he'll get on somewhere, he played real well and a team can take a gamble on a big guy with a low-risk 2nd round rookie contract

joe on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 3:13 PM

I bought two of them

joe on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 8:48 AM

3 players in MLB history have 400 hrs and 300 steals.
2 active players have 300 hrs and 200 steals.

Name them.

douglas on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9:30 AM

i'm guessing barry bonds is one of the 3 in history, i'll throw griffey in there as well.

joe on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9:38 AM

Mays yes, griffey no.

douglas on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9:43 AM

was bonds one?

douglas on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9:47 AM

A-rod is one of the active guys

joe on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9:48 AM

Bonds and Mays are 2 of the 3 with 400-300. The other one is being inducted into the Hall of Fame in the next few weeks or so.

joe on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9:49 AM

I didn't get the other active player and kicked myself for it.

douglas on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9:49 AM

Soriano's the other

douglas on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9:50 AM

and i guess you gave it away with dawson

joe on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:12 AM

Yep.

douglas on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:31 AM

douglas on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:32 AM

6:15 is gametime

Phil on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:48 AM

If I didn't have a hockey game I'd be there with my mad skills at left field and the running slapper. Bitches wouldn't even know what hit them.

Phil on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 10:48 AM

here's someone that is now available

Phil on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 1:34 PM

that's pretty smart. I've run across good articles on that site that I had been hessitant to post because of the url. Even the most basic of work filters should find fucking playboy.com in your history.

You ruined the perfect game.

Phil on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:11 PM

This was like a perfect game in the 3rd inning.

douglas on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:15 PM

i consciously didn't post after like 11 so as not to ruin it

douglas on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:15 PM

joe on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:19 PM

After lunch may be a new record.

19.5 hours without a post on a Wednesday

joe on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:20 PM

rephrase, 19.5 between posts from Tuesday to Wednesday.

joe on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:21 PM

Can you restate the "perfect game in the 3rd inning" in terms of natty sci intramural sports?

Phil on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:26 PM

It's probably akin to one of the many flag football games where we scored on our first possession to take a 6-0 lead and then proceeded to get beat 44-6

douglas on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:34 PM

are we too old to play intramural flag football now?

Phil on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:37 PM

If I'm not too old to hit on college girls then I'm not too old to play intramurals. That's my policy.

I'm probably just too slow and fat

Phil on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:50 PM

Definitely saw a support ticket at work today where someone wanted help setting up soullessgingers.com

Phil on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 4:14 PM

Fun part of my day. Around 3:45 I guess the shift ends at the kroger distribution building behind our office. At 3:50 a TARC bus arrives in front of our building.

So there are about 10 dudes that come FLYING out of that place. They gotta run down a 15ft steep incline and then go full out to make the bus.

The best part is that they also cut through the parking lot of a day care so I get to see a bunch of horrified mom's get out of their Lexus seeing 10 black dudes running full speed at them. Cracks me up.

joe on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 4:16 PM

TARC makes for a lot of excitement

Brock on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 4:29 PM

Did Marc ever get that job?

I am not seeing the promised bump in posting frequency.

Phil on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 4:58 PM

That's a whole different section of the company from me so I haven't heard anything. I figured marc would say something though...

Brock on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 5:26 PM

The company has gotten that big? I recall it being around 10 people at one point.

Phil on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 5:35 PM

We probably have 15 people over here in the office, 30 more working on the other side of the road.

joe on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 7:10 PM

Guy I used to work with:
Was at the walmart this morning. Saw a couple of those gothic girls. One had red, blue and green stripes in her hair. She caught me staring and sneered at me asking what I was looking at. Told her I got stoned once..screwed a peacock,,trying to figure out if she was my kid...the cashier nearly peed herself

Me:
Can I steal this for future reference?

Guy:
Joe go ahead..it's a gift..

joe on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 7:58 AM

No pressure Douglas, I am ending the perfect game early. The Strasburg vs the Reds game was very disappointing.

douglas on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 8:44 AM

nakajima's birthday was yesterday, he wanted me to go up there to watch it with him. i watched some of it on TV yesterday

Brock on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 10:07 AM

How is it that St. Louis can go on these streaks? I blame the 'roids.

douglas on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 11:30 AM

looks like samardo is going to sign with the cavs, great replacement for lebron

joe on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 12:34 PM

I heard about that, sounds like a bad move on the Cav's part

joe on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 12:51 PM

Reds day game. Aleady losing.

douglas on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 1:23 PM

guess the post all-star break collapse is underway

douglas on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 4:02 PM

interesting article, espn talked to 20 college coaches, all anonymously, about recruiting the state of college ball. Basically, how shady is the whole thing is. they asked coaches at the peach jam festival recently, which calipari wasn't at b/c he was in germany. while i was reading it, i couldn't help but think the whole thing was directed at UK b/c we keep stealing their recruits, and it made me smile:

MMA guy Jay Glaser is hosting Dan Patrick today. They called Eddie George and Eddie comments on just waking up. Glaser makes a gay joke saying I don't hear anything in the background so I guess the guy went home already? Eddie George responds tell your dad thanks for the evening.

Classic subtle radio joke

joe on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 9:26 AM

The Eddie George heisman trophy story just told about it losing a finger in the x ray machine at the airport. Shawne Merriman made a ronnie lott trophy joke. These guest hosts are ruthless.
