Previews for HIMYM appeared as if Barney is dressing up as Cobra Kai this year.

joe on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 1:52 PM

Girl in the cubicle next to me randomly asks if I am her friend. I say sure, what do you need. She holds up a stapler and asks do you think a staple through the nose would hurt.

Phil on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 1:57 PM

Boobs?

joe on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 2:05 PM

where is your line for staple to the nose?

joe on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 2:06 PM

college degree and no waitressing experience, not your type.

Marc on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 2:17 PM

I dressed up as Kobra Kai (the fat Kobra Kai) for a Staggerween. I here there is a Staggerween planned for Saturday.

Happy Birthday Xota.

I just drank bourbon from a fire extinguisher. I FUCKIN love Nashville!

Bigworm on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:11 AM

I am convinced Nashville isn't as awesome as you make it to believe. If you have time to stop from being awesome to update you being awesome on here it tells me that Nashville needs to up the awesomeness. Just saying.

Bigworm on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:12 AM

*make it to be.

joe on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 12:13 PM

how awesome is pharmacy school?

Bigworm on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 12:15 PM

Not as awesome as Nashville.

Brock on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 4:18 PM

Firstly, I do not recall making that post, probably because of the bourbon. Second, thanks to Natty Sci mobile, I can now make drunk posts as easily as drunk texts... kudos Philco. Finally, I was simply expressing my enthusiasm for the Nashville party scene, which was not necessarily an indictment of any other town's nightlife.

joe on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 8:05 AM

WLKY running a story about trick or treating at sex offenders houses in Indiana. Apparently Indiana did Halloween last night, is that legal?

Phil on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 11:17 AM

hey joe, can you check your truck for my phone? it's MIA

Jay on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 11:23 AM

One of the dads at Alan's football game gave me knuckles today because I know Phil Scott. It was quite random and very unexpected.

joe on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 8:28 AM

let me guess....hockey related?

Jerome on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 9:12 AM

Yeah ... dude's originally from New Jersey. I just didn't realize that knowing Phil warranted knuckles, especially from someone who has never thrown up the knuckles before - and I've known that guy for 3 years now.

Anyone know anything about changing a baking element on an oven? Mine broke and the part is discontinued and the "interchangable" replacement part isn't fitting. I don't know if the part is flexible and just needs to be shoved in there.

Phil on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 12:15 PM

I can ask Todd on Wednesday if he's ever dealt with that stuff. He may know

joe on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 12:19 PM

Laura spoke to someone at an appliance parts store that said they are able to bend. Interesting. This is sounding like it willl be a disaster waiting to happen.

joe on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 12:38 PM

Girl on the Price is Right was in a wheelchair. Apparently there is a ramp, but to get on stage it takes a 5 minute detour and Drew was trying to do filler that was horrible. It was obvious they picked a wheelchair friendly game because drew obviously had no clue what game was next and was adlibbing while they switched games to the one where she picks 1 of 2 prices. The girl almost fell trying to spin the wheel because she didn't lock the wheels and she rolled into the wheel and it didn't make it all the way around and no one booed like they normally do. In the end drew spun for her and she lost. I blame drew.

Phil on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 12:42 PM

In my mind she just rolled down the aisle letting gravity do the work as she high fived people with both hands when they said "come on down!"

Still would have been funny to see her win a ski trip.

joe on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 12:45 PM

she did roll down the aisle, she won there and had to go on stage. That is where the trouble began.

joe on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 12:46 PM

One of the showcases was a ski trip in Utah.

Phil on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 4:13 PM

We have a big fancy display for our NOC where Marcus Brodie works. They want me to add some weather data to it because during the storm no one knew it was getting nasty outside. So I'm pulling it from the weather underground feed. This is my error message I'm using if it fails:

"Error retrieving the weather. Please look out a window."

It makes me chuckle.

Phil on Monday, November 01, 2010 at 4:22 PM

Laura is gonna try and run for constable next time. Here's the job description:

24 yoa, citizen of KY for 2 years, citizen of district for 1 year, and a pulse (optional). Not kidding on this pay scale: you get .50 for picking up a vagrant; $1.00 for killing a mad dog; $3.00 killing and burying and ill tempered horse; $10.00 for felony arrest; altering a stud or jackass (WTF?) $1.00; Collect militia fines $3.00. Tell me that's not a better job.

joe on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 10:22 AM

What are you talking about?

Phil on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 10:35 AM

That's the duties of being a constable and how you get paid. Trivia laura wants to run for it. There is a certification process you have to go through though, but it looks like anyone can do it if you get the certification

joe on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 10:37 AM

crazy

douglas on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 11:11 AM

alright, we'll get political, you drew me in. think bridges projects, the arena that took 20 years to build, the museum plaza that won't be built for 10 years. the amount of red tape to get anything done in this city is unreal, there have been a number of companies that have looked at l'ville / ky to move to, didn't because louisville is one of the highest taxed cities in the country. that's why bullitt county is experiencing unreal growth right now, because a lot of companies have moved out there b/c it's better for business. there have been a bunch of scandals in his office, none of which you hear about unless it's buried on page Q18 in the newspaper in a tiny blurb in the corner as far as using city funds for personal use and trading favors with metro council members. louisville's got a much higher than average unemployment rate, there are actually fewer people employed in the city than 20 years ago. and i won't even start on the public school system, we can revisit that nightmare when you need to enroll any future kids you might have. i can damn near throw a baseball and hit greathouse/shryock elementary, but I'd need an act of God to get Kaelyn there because it isn't our district school. i live in hikes point, her district school is off preston highway by eastern pkwy. needless to say, there's a reason why louisville has one of the highest % of kids in catholic schools per capita in the country, and why i'll be paying, as a non-Catholic, an arm and a leg to have my kids in catholic schools.

joe on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 11:19 AM

interesting. Its funny because didn't Fischer move his businesses to southern indiana for those reasons?

douglas on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 11:25 AM

Louisville's #8 in highest taxes by the way:
http://www.omaha.com/article/201011.../711029902/1141

i know fischer moved portions of his business, he's got several. but the same thing applies to southern indiana as bullitt county, it's only gotten much much bigger over the last 10 years or so w/ people and businesses leaving jefferson county. same thing w/ shelby and oldham counties. all the fastest growing counties in the state surround jefferson county. and on a side note, my sister, who votes staunchly democrat, works for dant clayton, a company that fischer is part owner of, and she voted for heiner. apparently fischer's a huge prick according to her. she was actually in one of his campaign commercials and came to that office to shoot him talking with some of the workers, and my sister's a tall blonde so naturally they put her in there.

joe on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 11:29 AM

I did hear someone say that they worked for Fischer and that he was a prick, but he got the job done.

douglas on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 11:35 AM

he's actually been in business, so i hope he's not as bad as jerry, like i said, can't be any worse. heiner woulda been much better though. i was actually surprised the vote was so close in this city. i've met him at southeast before, he's friends with my dad, they were at atherton together. genuinely nice guy.

joe on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 2:09 PM

There was a Draut that was mayor of st. matthews forever. I guess this one is his son.

My campaign would be based solely on if you were in st. matthews you were bound to know at least 1 of us and we were good at baseball back in the day.

I went to McDonald's to get a little 5 piece nugget meal after hockey last night. They were out of nuggets so they had to drop another batch which meant I had to wait 5 minutes. No worries, I just played on my phone. They handed me the bag which was much bigger than I thought it should be and told me they threw in a few extra nuggets for making me wait

Nice promo for tonight's game

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-n3Z9H-KXI

Brock on Monday, November 08, 2010 at 6:48 PM

...a segway from Jerome's post. Since tonight's game is going to be a crapfest, and I need to drink a lot to enjoy it, I was looking for good specials at the local establishments.

I found that there is a seriously unmet need on the net for this. Yes, there are random assortments of local drink specials spread among blogs and yelp.com, but it would be really useful for the town drunk to have a one-stop shop for finding drink specials during the week. Something like a Craigslist system in which each city has a dynamic list of drink specials updated by the public or the establishments. Thus, I can click "Dallas" on "Tuesday" and find all the drink and even food specials throughout the city on Tuesday night. This concept naturally spills into a smartphone app.

There you go fellas, free gold-mine idea.

st. leonard, if you're not a member, is about 7200 or so a year. if you are a member, it's 2k lower. i know this b/c shannon is trying to use this number against me in court. it's also the reason she hasn't joined the church, which is literally filling out a piece of paper and going to a meeting. hell i'm a member at lourdes now and i'm not even catholic, pretty easy to join. and last i saw, trinity and st. x had pretty identical tuitions

apparently the initial ruling was done as a straight up and down rules violations and didn't take into account his special circumstances, like the ability to pay the 30k back, the fact he turned down $6 mil to come here, and they can speak to whether he had the 'intent to professionalize'. i hope he's ruled eligible, but i'm not holding my breath or anything. I'd rather just be super pumped if he is cleared than super pissed if he's not.

Central defeated visiting Moore 57-27 Friday night in a Class 3-A, second-round high school football playoff game that ended early as a result of a brawl.

With 5:12 remaining in the third quarter, Kevon Dunbar scored on a 59-yard pass from Tajh Milliken for the Yellowjackets (6-6). Several players began shoving in the end zone, and in the resulting melee all but five of Moore's players were ejected. The game was forfeited to Central.

Brock on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 2:59 AM

Well... since they are screwing over the Catholic schools, they realize whoever won that game was state champs. The rest of the playoffs is just a formality. The video even ends with the team taking time off since they can sleep through the rest of these teams and win the title.

The state athletics office just needs to bite the bullet and stop dicking them over so that national accolades can be brought. You've got these Texas, California, and Ohio teams raking in the publicity and KY is shooting itself in the foot because of bigotry.

So I thought I lost my wallet yesterday. Two major problems:
1) I have an uncashed paycheck in there from when we moved to the new direct deposit system so I'd be out a chuck of change and
2) With the paperwork we've been doing I had my social security card in there. So to get a new social security card I'd need a birth certificate (god knows where that is) and a drivers license. To get a new drivers license I'd need a social security card. It would be a viscious circle that would have led to me getting detained in gitmo, I'm sure of it.

UK fans, the first half was very sloppy for both washington and UK in my opinion. Was the 2nd half any better, I didnt watch it? Washington really needs to make the lay up instead of botching the dunk.

douglas on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 8:37 AM

Both teams came out and tried playing way too fast, the second half was much more of a grind and a really good half of basketball. A lot fewer turnovers and UK remembered how to shoot free throws. A really really good win. Wash tried to get physical and UK pushed back every time.

Remembering the great Enrico Pallazzo

Enrico Pallazzo, an acclaimed Italian opera singer who achieved greater international fame by thwarting an assassination attempt on the queen of England while working as a baseball umpire, died Sunday. He was 84.

Pallazzo died from health complications at a hospital, a large building with patients, near his home.

A true Renaissance man, Enrico Pallazzo umpired the game after performing the national anthem.

In 1988, Pallazzo was invited to sing the national anthem before a baseball game between the California Angels and Seattle Mariners that was attended by Queen Elizabeth II. After the game's seventh inning, Angels outfielder Reggie Jackson attempted to assassinate the queen while under the influence of hypnotic suggestion.

Jackson was thwarted by Pallazzo, who fired a tranquilizer dart from his cuff link that struck an obese woman in the stands. The woman fell on Jackson, knocking him out of commission and prompting jubilant spectators to chant Pallazzo's name.

Pallazzo subsequently proposed to his girlfriend, Jane, who instead of shooting him said yes. Arab-Israeli peace talks resumed shortly thereafter.

After delivering an avant-garde rendition of the anthem, Pallazzo umpired the game. Calling balls and strikes from behind home plate, his style was flamboyant, characterized by sidestepping, pirouetting, bowing to the crowd and a Michael Jackson-inspired moonwalk. Players recalled Pallazzo as being unusually hands-on in his approach, liberal in his stance on illegal ball doctoring and possessed of an uncanny ability to determine strikes before pitched balls reached home plate, a trait that contributed to his inimitably eccentric strike zone.

Pallazzo was the first -- and only -- umpire to eject another umpire from a major league game. He also is believed to be the first -- and only -- umpire to use an upright vacuum cleaner to tidy up home plate.

Born Dutch-Irish to a Welsh father, Pallazzo began his career as a locksmith and later practiced medicine. After discovering that Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev's famed birthmark was actually a wine stain, Pallazzo declined the offer of a Cabinet position by President George H.W. Bush.

Pallazzo is remembered by friends for his appreciation of stuffed beavers and his desire to find good, clean love without utensils. Pallazzo was romantically snake-bitten: One early relationship ended with a tragic blimp accident, another because of his girlfriend's musical career -- she spent 300 days a year on the road with the Chicago Male Chorus and Symphony despite not being able to carry a tune; when Pallazzo bought her a harp as a gift, she asked what it was.

Pallazzo's relationship with Jane, by contrast, brought him happiness and led him to notice things he previously had ignored, including birds singing and stoplights.

Disappointed that he was unable to fulfill his lifelong ambition to die by a parachute not opening or by getting caught in the gears of a combine, Pallazzo told friends and family gathered by his deathbed to "win one for the Zipper," adding that he did not know where death would take him but that it wouldn't smell good. When a relative said that Pallazzo surely couldn't be serious, Pallazzo replied that he was and requested that he not be called Shirley.

Offered a last meal of steak or chicken, Pallazzo chose lasagna.

I was talking with a guy at Insight last night. They are hoping to roll out Versus HD in march. Right now with so many analog channels the lines are oversaturated so they can't add anything. He said one analog channel takes up as much bandwidth as 12 digital channels, or 3-4 HD channels. They are looking to get rid of 70 older analog channels which would mean they have the possibility to add a shit ton of new channels soon.

Completely off topic, but can someone explain to me how Oak Hill Academy works? How do they get away with just recruiting players for one year?

joe on Monday, December 06, 2010 at 12:48 PM

They are a prep school that is not geverned by any association. They don't play for any state championships, just randomly play games and tournaments.

Brent on Monday, December 06, 2010 at 1:11 PM

So whats the point on trying to get those players there and paying for their tuition and stuff?

http://www.amazon.com/ESPN-Films-Gi...ag=533633855-20

Phil on Monday, December 06, 2010 at 1:43 PM

I don't think Oak Hill really recruits anyone or gives scholarships. Players know they'll get national exposure there so that's why they get so many top recruits.

SI had a good article on the school a long time ago
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/va...937/1/index.htm

joe on Monday, December 06, 2010 at 2:15 PM

It would be the equivalent of St. X and Trinity leaving the KHSAA and just scheduling games against whoever they feel like. They would play the top teams from the adjacent states and get great exposure.

Brock on Monday, December 06, 2010 at 2:41 PM

I need a new job.

Brock on Monday, December 06, 2010 at 2:57 PM

I wouldn't be shocked if Trinity and X did just that in the near future. The state has been dogging them for years and now that Trinity has a respectable basketball program, they may do well for themselves out of state.

joe on Monday, December 06, 2010 at 3:06 PM

Trinity has 5 of the top 10 sophmores in the state in football, and the basketball team brought in the top sophmore in the state who is sitting out for transfer rules this season. No one will ever be as dominant as the volleyball program at trinity was back in the 90s.

randy shannon's the old miami coach, and i'm not banking on it. i'd love it, but UK would have to dole old serious cash for an assistant. plus with the whole co-defensive coordinator thing they're doing I don't know how attractive that is. of course they could be doing that just until steve brown finds a job, he's supposedly looking in the NFL

Phil on Wednesday, December 08, 2010 at 3:37 PM

Yeah, I heard Brown was looking at the NFL too which would make it more appealing to Shannon. I heard it'd only be for a year just to keep him coaching college though.

Michelle, get back to work.

joe on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:06 AM

Brock, I had a stellar fantasy football night last night. 64 points. I know you will make a comeback and we will have another epic fantasy battle.

joe on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:25 AM

anticipating drunk phil story of the day. Apparently there was trivia and a work christmas party. Can only imagine the stories.

Phil on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:31 AM

You'll have to turn to Marc for the drunk stories. I was rushing around the whole night and never got into a good drunk grove.

Marc on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 1:19 PM

I, on the other hand, drank several yet remained classy and had to let Tiffany drive home and begged for White Castle on the way home. She is awesome so, she obliged.

Phil on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 2:14 PM

I figured once I had everyone moving towards those high alcohol Belgium beers it would have gotten ugly

joe on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 3:39 PM

is anyone in practice to make it to midnight this year at new yars?

Phil on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 4:57 PM

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose. I'll be there at midnight even if I'm the only one left standing.

Brent on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 5:31 PM

Is "begged for White Castle" some kind of metaphor with you two?

Jay on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM

I'll make it to midnight. Unfortunately, I can't drink.

joe on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 10:41 AM

So is the metrodome collapsing going to affect fantasy football?

Phil on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 12:23 PM

Just the timings of the games apparently.

Chicago I think will be more interesting. Icy with 50 mph winds. I'm sitting Woodhead and going with the bears defense in hopes of lots of turnovers

Phil on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 1:03 PM

In retrospect, Woodhead might make a killing on little dink and dunk plays. Damn it. Too late

joe on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 4:50 PM

All I have figured out about soccer so far is that if 2 guys occupy 1 area and one falls, the guy standing is called for a foul.

joe on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 8:58 PM

Looking at some good potential upsets in fantasy football.

Phil on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 10:20 PM

My lack of effort in putting a TE into these games is looking like it'll come back to haunt me.

In the brent's league I need 60 points from Arian Foster, Andre Johnson and Flacco. Epic potential for a monday night comeback

Brent on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 10:38 PM

Looks like Im going to be usurped by the worse team in the league...wtf happened to first round byes.

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 12:51 AM

Weird, my facebook account got activated. Hackers!

I think it was related to the gawker network updates. Promptly saw that I had zero friend requests since the three years it has been inactive and deactivated it again.

January 28th, Avenged Sevenfold with Stone Sour at Rupp Arena. Tickets are 100 for floor seats, 70 up for the stands. Is anyone interested in going. I know Avenged Sevenfold puts on a good show.

joe on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 12:18 PM

Avenged sevenfold and stone sour is that much?

Jay on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 12:53 PM

It's definetly expensive.

Brock on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 1:24 PM

Although I will likely go quietly into the night in my matchup with Joe, I'm making a Cinderella run in Brent's pay league. Phil, you can't get friend requests on Facebook if your account is inactive, so its not necessarily an indictment of your social standing. However, sweatpants are.

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 1:45 PM

I'm praying for a high scoring event tonight. I need a big game from Ray Rice, Flacco, Arian Foster and Andre Johnson.

MONDAY MONDAY MONDAY! YOU GOTTA PAY FOR THE WHOLE SEAT BUT YOU'LL ONLY NEED THE EDDDDDDDDDDDDDGE!

joe on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 2:05 PM

Wrecking Crew on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 5:26 PM

anyone know the aristocrats joke? if you don't, look it up on you tube. i think bob sagets version was best. if you do, imagine it being told in the middle of the or. that didnt really happen, but my attending was nearly in tears laughing as he was telling me to look up the gilbert gottfried version that he and his autistic son love.

joe on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 6:07 PM

what did Iowa do?

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 8:01 PM

Rumors of mass suspensions.

You can't even bet on it on bodog anymore

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 8:22 PM

apparently it is just a couple of running backs transferring out, but I heard that drug testing could lead to a bunch of suspensions.

joe on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 9:01 PM

I'd leave the big ten too after seeing that new logo and names for the divisions.

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 9:06 PM

drew magary said "Did the Big Ten decide to become a golf tour?"

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 9:54 PM

At this rate it ain't looking good for me in Brent's league.

Either I need Flacco to put up 60 points myself or the Texans to get their heads out of their asses.

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 10:04 PM

that'll help

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 10:06 PM

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 10:18 PM

Phil, its going to come down to a nail biter, I think you can pull off the upset

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 10:18 PM

If they all score the bonus, you win

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 10:53 PM

I need a TD from Foster, Johnson or Flacco along with 25 yards each from Foster and Johnson. This 4th and 4 may decide the game for me though.

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 10:55 PM

ok, two score game. Ravens will still have to throw...

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:08 PM

i get the feeling i may be rooting for a half back pass from foster to andre johnson to pull this off

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:18 PM

THROW IT TO JOHNSON SOME MORE! FUCK!

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:19 PM

Lol, that would be awesome...you need 15 yards and your money, unfortunately you need 5 to johnson and 10 to foster.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:20 PM

BOOOM!

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:22 PM

5pts...

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:22 PM

Fuck you, white boy

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:22 PM

Ooh, all you need is probably one pass to Johnson and you sling the stone, baby!

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:23 PM

Damn

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:24 PM

Ouch, good thing is they probably will get the ball back, what we don't need (I have Foster too in my other league) is Foster to lose any yards, that would be terrible...or ESPN to have it wrong right now and correct the points 3 days later....should be me right now.

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:27 PM

Should have kept feeding it to foster on that last drive. Flacco would need to throw a td so he's useless to me.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:29 PM

well, he can pick you up a couple which could lead to a bunch of Foster throws when they are running that dime defense.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:30 PM

I just clinched it in my other league...so I can breathe now.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:30 PM

Need a major stop here.

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:31 PM

May come down to this play

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:32 PM

Texans should put 11 in the box and dare Flacco to throw a TD. That's what I would do.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:32 PM

Awesome stop!

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:34 PM

Alright, just one pass to Johnson...

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:34 PM

One pass, that's all you need...ooh

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:35 PM

At least pass it to Foster, sheesh

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:37 PM

Next pass to Foster would put me 2 down...

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:37 PM

25 yards and two catches to Foster wins it for you

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:38 PM

Cardiac Texans

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:40 PM

Now, you just have to hope that Foster doesnt run for a loss.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:41 PM

Your good actually, you still win with that last throw

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:41 PM

No shit.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:42 PM

These Texans just might pull this out

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:42 PM

How many points were you down before the start?

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:43 PM

Down 60 points

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:44 PM

and then the Phil-istine slung a stone....

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:44 PM

This game is awesome, they just owned the Ravens on that drive!

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:46 PM

Now the Footsteps Philcos are just gonna run up the score

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:50 PM

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:54 PM

Lol, yeah

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:54 PM

Fuck, I want the Ravens to lose...revenge for not throwing to Boldin more often.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:56 PM

Lights out!

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:57 PM

Nice return, Focker

Phil on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:58 PM

If Boldin gets 60 yards and a TD then lose to Chris in the Sci league so it'd be nice for the Texans to get this.

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:58 PM

SOB

Brent on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 11:59 PM

Why didnt they run the ball

Brent on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Shit, he just thanked God.

Phil on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 12:00 AM

Sorry, Texans. But thanks

Phil on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 12:28 AM

Word on the street is me looking at bodog for odds on the louisville and kentucky bowl games and noticing the Iowa game was off the books so I did some sleuthing. Found some rumblings on the Iowa sports section about my above posts.

At least our website is at a basic reading level.

joe on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 8:23 AM

he'd rather play for the city that boos santa claus then the yankees.

Brock on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 8:37 AM

With Phil stealing the show on that miracle comeback, no one noticed the number 7 seed slip right into the championship game.

Its down to you and me Philco. How apt that this league is called "Thunderdome."

Since we made it to the finals, does that guarantee both of us a pay-out?

joe on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 8:42 AM

How many leagues are you all in? Is this the league Brent was recruiting for?

Brock on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 9:37 AM

Yes. Even though it was a pay league, I forgot about it much of the season. My early exit in the Yahoo league has made me much more vigilant in this league.

Not that I made a huge change in my strategy, but it did help that Moreno has finally started producing.

joe on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 10:53 AM

joe on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 12:48 PM

Brent on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 1:21 PM

Phil on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 1:23 PM

Can only imagine where that went.

douglas on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 2:36 PM

what's kinda fucked up is he short sold his condo for a big loss, moved up to PA to be around her family, and she quits her job as an accountant to go back to culinary school, which doesn't have quite the income potential as accountant. so he's paying for her to go back to school now, it's kinda funny

joe on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 2:44 PM

I avoided asking to much about the culinary school stuff. I think she is ready to be a stay at home mom.

Phil on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 2:48 PM

If she just started culinary school she'll be working 60 hours a week until she's 45 before she gets a job anywhere close to being a chef.

joe on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 3:13 PM

I don't think she wants a real job. She is in a class to get a pastry certificate.

Tiffany on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 3:35 PM

60 hours try like 70-80 if she wants to get past being a Sous chef before her knees go bad, and she can't turn her wrists. Both my parents were chefs, I practically raised myself. As for pastry its is decent money these days. If she's any good, she has artistic vision, she's doing wedding or business commissioned cakes regularly and she's in a high business shop.

joe on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 3:40 PM

Would Hershey be a good place to get in on the pastry industry? I guess you could make a logical conenction.

This e-mail of the week in the funbag made me chuckle:
First real date of my life, in the 9th grade. We go to a movie and at some point hold hands and make out. This gave me an unrelenting boner. I assumed that my date had an even greater physiological reaction. I told several of my friends later that I knew she was into it, and had likely come. If not, she certainly had gotten very wet. I based this on the fact that I could smell oranges at one point. Obviously. To be clear, I truly believed this. None of my friends knew enough to call out the multiple reasons this was retarded.

My date did, though. A few days later she ran up to me in the hall and screamed "Did you tell everyone that I smell like oranges?!" We did not go on a second date.

joe on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 4:15 PM

Some dude on deadspin named AntoineWalker posted this on the Rick Pitino to Puerto Rice story:

I'm not surprised he took this gig. Dude LOVED the Puerto Rican babies. We start off 97 real sloppy. I think we won like one game in the first 2 weeks. Pitino's is stressed. He had this latin baby on the side and she'd cheer him up real good. We finally turn it around and rip off a few in a row. Pitino finally feels comfortable and decides to take us out to dinner with this little lady. He wasn't real worried about hiding it. He treated us like men and knew we all had shit on the side. He took me out to eat a lot that season because he said I needed some culture. At Kentucky I was used to eating real simple. You ain't had diarrhea till you try Kentucky chinese food. Shit's nasty. So here we are in this big city and Pitino wants to give me some culture.

He's taking the whole squad out to dinner and Pitino says Maria wants to go to this joint called El Monguito or some shit. So I'm like great "I love tacos." Thought I was being real polite but P pulls me aside and slaps me in the face. He's like "'Toine it's Puerto Rican you cultureless motherfucker not Mexican. Would you like it if I called your mom's chicken Kenyan motherfucker?" Now dude wasn't racist. But that shit wasn't cool. All the guys saw this shit go down. I knew Pitino had a short fuse but the vets lost some respect for him. He was just protecting his girl but the damage was done. I don't think we won again that month

it says two weeks, but everything I have read recommends 4 to 6. What do you think?

Phil on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 12:33 PM

Joe Webb, the starting QB for the Vikings this week, has QB,WR eligibility. So I picked him up and put him at the WR slot.

Truth be told I only did this to amuse myself because he'll be playing on a patch of ice so I don't expect him to put up more points than my normal WRs

Another late night for fantasy. After by boys shit the bed I'm left relying on Greg Jennings being thrown to from Flynn, some TE and the Pats D to get me 31 points.

This one is for all the huevos.

er, "my boys shit the bed"

you look to be good in the natty sci league. I need 17.5 from the Pats D and Deion Branch.

In my other league, down by 30 with greg jennings and the Bears...now that isnt out of the realm of a comeback BUT he has the patriots, welker, and crosby to go...might as well start digging.

joe on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 11:09 PM

I'm up .5. If Green Bay scores I am down 1.5. I need Branch reception or some defensive stops. Pats ball 5 minutes left...run out the clock with deion branch receptions!

douglas on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:13 AM

don't know yet, winning a sales contest for the fourth quarter of this year, prize is a big screen, still need to get details, but it should be 50+ minimum. there hasn't been anything to see really, i finished the basement a year ago, but b/c of the ridiculous amount of legal fees i've had this year i've put off furnishing it. right now it's just a glorified play room for kaelyn. i did get the aquarium in yesterday also too. kaelyn wants a pet, but i'm not getting a dog or cat, so her big christmas gift this year is fish.

Bigworm on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:27 AM

Douglas - what size aquarium did you get? Salt of freshwater?

joe on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:48 AM

the fish at my house won't die. The cat smells and the dogs are a handful. Good move douglas.

douglas on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:54 AM

it's a monster aquarium, 55 gallon, i actually got it for free, my cousin's new husband and i were talking at thanksgiving and it used to be a hobby of his but they moved in together and he didn't have room, so he gave me the tank and stand for free, which is like a 400-500 value. it's freshwater, salt is too much trouble, i'm not trying to do exotic fish or anything, just something pretty for the kid to look at.

This means that Mendenhall loses 6 points (5 point bonus, 1 point rushing yard), which put Patrick ahead of Josh 98 to 97.5. Ouch.

Ok, so I have a scheduling delimma. We have 5 teams in our league this session. We have two games a week, so every Wednesday one team gets a bye week. We need roughly 12 +/- 1 games for each team including the playoffs. So I'm thinking a 10 game regular reason where each team has two bye weeks. And then the playoffs would be a five week double elimination tournament. Something like this:
http://www.printyourbrackets.com/5s...ededdouble.html

If you were in that league for softball, kickball, etc would that seem ok?

Phil on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 12:52 PM

From the deadspin funbag on asking for autographs:
I think at some point you switch over to "I would like his autograph" to "I would like to buy that guy an alcoholic beverage of his choice." That's a way of showering praise upon someone you admire without looking like a slobbering jackass.

Which seems more likely?

Well, the normal version of the site protects against double posts. The mobile version is just being shitty and slow. I should disable the button when people click it.

Im off tomorrow, Joe how many people are coming over to your place to watch the game?

joe on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 12:19 PM

I don't think anyone is coming over to watch the game. I wasn't planning on people till after 5 or so. I don't think I will be ready for people by gametime.

Brent on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 12:22 PM

Really? Shit, I just assumed people were watching the game at your house, Phil, where are you watching the game tomorrow?

joe on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 12:25 PM

I wish the game was a few hours later then it would be an awesome new years marathon throwdown. Noon won't cut it for me.

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 1:52 PM

Douglas, you've still got to get shot glass checkers to Joe's if you don't make it.

joe on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:31 PM

Food needed: desert item, ice, veggie tray...

Brock on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 3:09 PM

We can make our own shot glass checkers. However, I think the rules need to be modified. The winner tends to drink much more than the loser.

Also, don't forget the undefeated Bearcats take on Seton Hall at 8. Ya know... like how could you forget?

Phil on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 3:49 PM

I thought the purpose of shot glass checkers is that a winning player slowly gets worse and worse thus evening the playing field, like the rubber band AI in NBA Jam that keeps the games from being a blow out

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 5:57 PM

But loser does have to finish the board, usually requiring multiple shots of liquor

douglas on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 6:28 PM

Either way there's a very good shot of getting very fucked up

Brock on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:36 PM

The trick is to start the board with shots of beer and make the kings bourbon. Its checkers, not Thunderdome.

Did the cops come to your house after I left?

joe on Thursday, January 06, 2011 at 10:33 AM

the cops made the first appearance then came back and arrested the guy at the neighbors house and walked down to our house after that. They rolled 4 deep in squad cars the 2nd time. I think the noise complaint was mainly greg playing the bugle in the street. Basically if a cop says something say sorry and don't say you can't arrest me because they will.

I have a feeling it is the same neighbor calling the cops about the dogs barking on a Saturday afternoon and the number of cars on the street on a tuesday morning in the past year. Nancy spoke with the cop about the cars. She called city hall to complain about the cops talking to her about cars parked on the street. There is a neighbor somewhere that isn't happy. I told most the neighbors to stop by for food and gave them a heads up about people coming over. Maybe I will stop giving out christmas cookies.

Suzanne across the street has been getting phone calls all day wondering what was going on. She is concerned about 4th of july and is feeling out neighbors to see who called. She knew the cops came at midnight and said she didnt hear a peep the rest of the night and her front door was open. She may throw punches at 4th of July if the cops are called. Jay on Friday, January 07, 2011 at 1:13 PM

Could it have been from someone behind your house, Joe?

joe on Friday, January 07, 2011 at 1:44 PM

directly behind me is younger then me and friends with bug eater Kate and we know each other, and the other side is an older widow who is cool with me. The widow has called my house before and will call me for things. Possibly she called on Fred's party and we just happened to be having one too.

I have a feeling that the call was not on us, but actually on Fred's party and it was from further down the street, or it was a blanket noise complaint of the street. I think Suzanne will take the law into her own hands and figure it out. Nancy has filed a complaint to the cops on whoever is calling the cops. Her complaint was that this was a nice friendly street until the past year.

There is one person that is complaining. All the other neighbors are on my side and have said they enjoy the parties and like seeing life on the street. 2 neighbors have already told me they didn't hear anything all night.

Phil on Friday, January 07, 2011 at 2:01 PM

The second trip the cops definitely said they talked to both houses the first time, and that our party had the good sense to turn their music down. That's why Fred got the citation - because the cops had to make a second run.

Now, they also showed up 10 or 15 minutes after Greg was going around with his bugle and I really didn't think the music was that loud - in fact I barely could hear anything but laughing coming from that house when I was walking over there. I believe the gay guys at Fred's party had just turned the music up and were dancing in kitchen or some shit because a couple was having a fight and they didn't want to hear it.

Really a comedy of errors. The noise citation sucks but it's no big deal, but his buddy that went all "They can't arrest me because I'm a district attorney" doesn't get much sympathy from me because I told his ass not to go out there.

the great clips $4.99 haircut for the grand opening is the next best haircut I have found to the free douglas or Cuban haircut. Females do give good haircuts as long as it is not a female at a legitimate barber shop. The woman at 2 lane barber shop next to the golden nugget is the reason I quit going there. I felt safe at great clips because they had on ESPN when I walked in.

All that is going to do is make money for Southern Indiana. All of the businesses will move there. Its much like the casinos. How short-sighted are these people?

Wrecking Crew on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 12:05 AM

Frank Mascagni making Church of the Ascension proud. Indiana has some jacked up laws too...so I've heard.

There will be festivities for you to attend all weekend, including: a dinner at the President's House, a Day at the Races, an on-campus event with food and tours, and a Sunday mass and brunch. More details will be mailed to you in the coming months.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you are interested in serving on the Class of 2001 Reunion Committee, please let us know. The committee will meet 2-4 times between now and June and will help to plan and organize the weekend.

Crawford trying to turn on the waterworks:
And then there was Patrick Bouldin. The die-hard U of L fan always watched Marquette games with his friend and MU alum Doug Burchett, until Burchett died of brain cancer in 2009 at age 38. On Sunday, Bouldin was in the KFC Yum! Center with Burchett's 7-year-old son, Ryan.
Bouldin has seen all the U ofL-Marquette thrillers, the Jerry Smith, Reece Gaines and Francisco Garcia last-second heroics, as well as those of Dameon Mason. He watched Steve Novak and Dwyane Wade break his heart.

But he had never experienced anything like watching his beloved Cardinals come back, with a 7-year-old beside him tearing up. Bouldin had a confession to make. As much as he loves U of L, he wasn't cheering the comeback.

“I was cheering for MU for Ryan's sake, telling him things like Terrence Jennings was a bad free-throw shooter (as he then did his best Milt Wagner impression),” Bouldin wrote. “Ryan quietly hid his face in the sleeve of his jacket and cried as Uof L won and the crowd went nuts.”

The story has a nice ending, though. Bouldin had arranged for Marquette coach Buzz Williams to meet Ryan after the game, and after such a heartbreaking loss, he worried that there was no way that would happen.
But afterward, despite it all, here came Williams to shake Ryan's hand, smiling and talking to the two, even arranging for him to have pictures made with Marquette players.

douglas on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:38 AM

last night sucked, if they played the way they did the last 10 minutes the game's never close. alabama's not a good team, but UK just sucked. nothing more to say really. without enes this was never going to be an outstanding team, just not enough guns and no one to give harrellson a break down low. their saving grace is shooting, and when they were missing shots like they were most of the game, there's not much to fall back on. if you get a physical team playing hard down low and get certain guys in foul trouble, there's no one to turn to. without enes, this was always a holdover year until next year anyway, remember bledsoe and orton were 'supposed' to still be here this year.

joe on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 12:15 PM

douglas on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 3:48 PM

what happened joe?

joe on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 3:51 PM

I have a guy repairing the wall by the fireplace and he came out today to begin and ripped out the wall. He said there is moisture which means there is either a leak from the chimney or roof. I called a roofer and they can't come out till monday or tuesday weather permitting and He isn't going to put up new drywall till the moisture is fixed. So I am currently without a wall for a while.

joe on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 3:52 PM

I have no clue whether to wait for the roofer first or just go ahead and mess with a chimney person too. Basically a simple drywall job is getting complicated.

But there is always hope that he can coach up the qbs and bring the passing offense out of the hundreds and the total offense out of the cellar of the sec. I do think its pretty funny that the 2 worst UL football headcoaches over the last 30 yrs are both on LSU's staff. joe on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 9:04 AM

basically, the guy was done and I looked at it and thought ok it looks decent and paid him not knowing much about drywall. I later noticed when I started cleaning that it needed more sanding so I got him back out. He came while I was at work Wednesday, I got home and it was a completely shitty job. I asked a neighbor who does bigger jobs and I asked him to look at it and he said if this guy thinks this is finished he has no integrity. Call him back and he came Saturday and remudded some spots. Call him to set up a time to sand and he seriously said, what you can't sand it yourself? So i talked to the neighbor and asked if he knows anyone interested in fixing the job and he said it would take no more then an hour and is coming to finish it today and asked for brownies as payment..

Joe - when you had the credit card fiasco, did you determine what happened as in how your shit got stolen.

I just canceled one of my credit cards today. Chase's Fraud department called me because they flagged my account due to someone trying to purchase shit from Walmart. I remember this happened when Abby tried to buy some stuff from Walmart.com with our credit card once. The called that time and told us they inactivated our account because we don't shop at Walmart...and how right they were. The did the same shit again this time....except this time it was not us.
