Brent has brought up the idea of putting some money on it which I am in favor of. But collecting is a different matter. I could set something up on PayPal, but they take 3% so we'd have to go with 10.30 as an entry fee or some shit

I hate Pitt, but I can't find a good reason to pick them to lose. They will though, but I can't pull the trigger.

What is the Card fan gut feel against Kansas? Will Kansas even make it that far (UNLV)? I would not be surprised if UofL plays a 13, a 12, an 8, then an 6. In 1992, UC made the final four beating 13, 5, 8, and 7 seeds.

Did anyone else see Doug Gottleib basically pick against every Big East team? He moved Pitt and ND on since they are top 2 seeds, but Syracuse, UConn, and UofL only with some stipulations and bullshit. The guy has something against the Big East. Rumors are that he got kicked out of Notre Dame for stealing a roommates credit card. I'm sure that's a crock, but he is a moron regardless.

If Florida makes any kind of run, my brackets are screwed because I can't see them making it out of the first weekend. UK or Texas should have got that spot. Its a joke.

Oh, and go ahead and write in the Bearcats for a Final Four run. They are running this Fab Five documentary on ESPN, the last time UC made the final four? 1992. First year Huggins got an NCAA bid. Can Cronin do it too? I'm going to be unbearable to be around this weekend, especially when I have to curse the state of Missouri for weeks.

douglas on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 8:25 AM

Kentucky is ranked 10th in the new USA Today/ESPN Poll. Proving again that the polls mean nothing, the other four seeds are ranked 9th (Texas), 11th (Louisville) and 16th (Wisconsin). The three seeds are ranked 8th (UConn), 12th (BYU), 14th (Syracuse) and 15th (Purdue).

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/coll...ll/usatpoll.htm

yeah, this makes a lot of sense

Wrecking Crew on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 8:33 AM

Anyone know how they decided about this first four shit? Who plays? Which region? etc.

Weekend partying has left me physically sore 2 days later.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 9:28 AM

Seems like the bottles would rub the shit out of your thighs

Brent on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:43 PM

So going back to the brackets, I dont get how they justify some people doing well at the end of the season...Personally, if you dont finish strong, I think that should affect your draft selection. If you are Pitt and you go out in the first round, I say you lose your #1 spot. If not, then it seems like you would just say screw it, we're a number one, lets just rest up for the tourney.

Brock on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:53 PM

I agree with you Brent. Although I don't think the last 10 games should decide whether you are in or out, just seeding.

Look at Missouri, 14-1, 14th in the country, but finish 9-9, lost 4 of 5 to finish. They got dunked all the way down to an 11.

Texas: they lost in the finals of the Big12 and get dropped to 4.

Georgia confuses me. How are they a 10-seed? I'm starting to notice a common thread among teams over-seeded. Weren't they on the bubble 5 minutes ago? I guess until the bubble became the stuff rising up from the toilet (VCU and UAB).

Phil on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 3:00 PM

How the 68 teams ruined the bracket
http://deadspin.com/#!5781536/they-...goddamn-bracket

Brent on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 3:06 PM

I can agree with that, although, Villanova losing to USF and losing 5 straight before that made a pretty good case to be left out of the tourney. Personally, I like the idea that a bubble team now has the right to play in the dance...I think it at least makes that game interesting.

Brock on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 3:21 PM

...and by being left out of the tournament, you mean get an 8/9 seed, which is probably the worst seed to have.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 3:42 PM

How are we doing the money thing for the bracket? Put a second one in with the big east not blowing it like they usually do and UL as national champs, so that one should be disregarded.

http://www.courier-journal.com/arti...dyssey=obinsite

joe on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 12:15 PM

Girl at work had her as a teacher back when she went to Manual. Apparently that teacher was a big deal back then. She said other teachers were jealous of her and didn't like her because of the way she dressed and such.

joe on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 12:15 PM

Another woman at work has a freshman at Manual and she isn't very happy.

Brent on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 12:28 PM

The comments are pretty hilarious, I like these:

--Consider the following. If the teacher had been from Male High School,
then the headline could have been:
"Male teacher resigns after being found with 17-year-old male in a parked car."

--Man, why doesn't this happen at the "Parent/Teacher" conferences?!

--He may have went in the car a boy, but he came out a man.

joe on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 12:41 PM

I asked a guy I work with that is younger then me if he remembered the substitute teacher miss nutt when he was at Trinity. He was too young to remember her. He missed out.

Phil on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 1:32 PM

What was the other teacher that was hot?

As the dude if he ever had Ms. Sweet has a substitute spanish teacher.

joe on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 2:02 PM

Ms. Nutt was the only one I remember.

Phil on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 2:06 PM

Ms Sweet would have been about 5 or 6 years ago I think

Wrecking Crew on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 2:15 PM

Frau Gerding's daughter made an appearance one day that had the school riled up. I don't remember Ms. Nutt being all that hot except for the fact that she was a young blonde who taught at an all boys high school and rumor had it she was an aerobics instructor.

douglas on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 4:34 PM

tubby holds clout with the brothers

Brock on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 6:55 PM

So with that logic, wouldn't the blatant ousting of Tubby hurt said rep?

joe on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 7:28 PM

Bellarmine basketball tomorrow at 1:00. We will be at saints.

I like to think that Tubby Smith channeled himself to Cal tonight. Great game plan by Cal.

Bigworm on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 12:45 AM

I can say that I am not overly excited about playing UNC. They simply beat the shit out of Marquette tonight. That game looked like a damn scrimmage.

Brock on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:24 AM

UNC is streaky. They are young, so if they get put out of their game early, they will force bad shots. I have a small contingent of die-hard UNC fans that have painstakenly described these points to me on multiple occasions.

Brent on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:11 AM

Well that's good for UK because theyre a team of veterans.

These announcers are jocking BYU-Hawaii far too much. I guess when your team isn't ethnically diverse, it doesn't warrant any discussion. I mean Bellarmine doesn't even have one polygamist on their team.

I'm paying for the booze for my sister's wedding. 50 guests and the ceremony is from 2:30-6:30pm. Here's the order right now. I think the APA is way too high, and the Miller Lite is way too low

BBC APA – 36
Blue Moon - 36
Miller Lite - 60
Red wine – 1 case (half pinot, half cab)
White wine – 1 case (half chardonnay, half pinot grigio)
Vodka – 2 handles
Gin – 1 handle
Bourbon – 2 handle
Mint Simple Syrup
Fresh Mint
Mixers: Coke, Diet Coke, Ginger Ale, orange juice, cranberry juice, Sprite, Club Soda, Tonic Water

Brent on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 1:23 PM

Well, the good thing is, if you want to be stuck with extra alcohol, would you rather be stuck with Miller Lite or BBC APA? Also, is there going to be some hot bartender scolding me if I dont order a Miller Lite?

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, April 03, 2011 at 8:30 AM

Not that it really means anything, since UofL lost in the first round, but it's a little interesting that they are 3-1 against the 2 championship teams. Fucking Morehead.

joe on Sunday, April 03, 2011 at 9:07 AM

The big east season prepped them well then, or cal has a bad conditioning program. Maybe harrelson ran a few to many suicides. I think vcu tired as well.

Based on what I've read on the internet and heard on the radio, I believe the NCAA may still award UK the victory for last night because they shot bad.

Not sure why the NCAA didn't do that for UNC or Ohio State though. Must be a final four only thing.

Liggins is projected late second round and has a kid. Plus he's 23. I bet he enters the draft with no agent just to see. It'd be silly not to. I've been a fan of his defense all season long - I could see an NBA team like the Spurs taking him late in the second

The wacky one I've heard is Miller.

douglas on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 9:46 AM

miller won't go anywhere, the only reason liggins would is b/c he's got a kid now. i have no idea who will go and/or stay, i could see all 3 freshmen leave just as easily as i could see them all stay.

douglas on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 9:48 AM

and god damn, i can relate to UL fans better than ever after that game. not that UK didn't blow numerous chances to win, but UConn got every fucking call, including a few that didn't exist.

joe on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 10:05 AM

I thought the refs wanted to be UK?

Brent on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 10:36 AM

Im completely biased but I agree with Douglas...another thing that pisses me off is the way they flop...its dirty play.

douglas on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 10:42 AM

i think what pisses me off more than anything is that even w/ no calls whatsoever going our way and the putrid way UK shot the ball, we still would've won if liggins' 3 went in. if we had lost to OSU or UNC, i would've been more content b/c we played well and we just would've been beat by a better team. UConn was not a better team.

joe on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 10:52 AM

the flop was hilariously bad. The nut shot was funny too.

Brent on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:05 AM

What about that 3 point foul? Was it a foul, I need someone unbiased to tell me...because I didnt think it was, I thought they pretty much let Kemba Walker do whatever he wants...there was one play where he dropped his shoulder pretty hard and I thought he would have been called and he wasn't, if Knight would have done that, Walker would have flown halfway across the court.

joe on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:15 AM

free throw shooting is more likely the problem.

Phil on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:18 AM

If UConn wouldn't have gotten hot and hit 8% of their threes it would have been a different game. UK should have won by 25

douglas on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:19 AM

don't get me wrong, UK sucked shooting free throws, just hit a couple more and the whole game changes. same thing w/ some gimmies in the first half they missed. and they missed wide open shots, very similar to WV last year, they had the looks. lots of reasons they lost, and none of them had anything to do w/ UConn, which is what pisses me off.

joe on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:22 AM

If preston knowles hadn't taken his shoe off UL would have been playing Butler Saturday.

douglas on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:22 AM

the difference between UConn's % and UK's is that UK had open looks, while everything UConn threw up was contested. UConn had to work for every one of their points, except for some of their free throws of course. kemba said as much after the game

douglas on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:23 AM

or if faried's asthma kicked in

Phil on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:34 AM

Sorry, just giving you shit Douglas. Fact remains all the "facts" UK fans are giving for losing could have easily been said by Princeton, UNC and Ohio State fans. It's why they play the game.

Anyone see the picture of Calhoun on ESPN today? It's creepy.

Brent on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:41 AM

Maybe my bitterness is compounded by me having to watch the game with Josh and Alycia who were cheering for UCONN the entire game and of course they are the first one to talk bad about UK fans...Alycia even made a negative comment about Josh Harrellson...I mean what can you say bad about that guy? He's the feel good story of the year!

douglas on Monday, April 04, 2011 at 11:46 AM

Brent on Tuesday, April 05, 2011 at 4:09 PM

Im guessing that rumor will play out every year.

Phil on Tuesday, April 05, 2011 at 4:28 PM

I'm guessing Calipari puts those rumors out himself every year.

douglas on Tuesday, April 05, 2011 at 4:42 PM

he won't leave this year, too much invested in the incoming class. not that he won't ever go to the NBA, but he knows his legacy won't be complete w/o a title. if UK wins next year i could see him going, but only if the right job pops up that he could win an nba title right away, like miami or something

douglas on Tuesday, April 05, 2011 at 4:44 PM

the only other big 'knock' on his resume, other than no title, is the perception that he failed miserably w/ the nets. i think if he gets the college title, he'd like to get the nba one too

Phil on Tuesday, April 05, 2011 at 4:56 PM

The perception he failed miserably? He got fired 20 games in with a 3-17 record because the players weren't listening to him. Jordan even at one point joked with the Nets bench asking why the put up with him. I'm not sure how else to perceive that than a spectacular failure.

The rumors aren't coming from any legit sources, and they all read like press releases from Calipari. He might be interested, but I seriously doubt the NBA is interested in him.

the gov't will shut down, but if i remember veterans affairs don't get shut down. 70-80% of the government doesn't shut down in a gov't 'shutdown.' that's why it's funny to listen to reporters speak about it like it's the end of the world. if you work at a federal museum or park, you'll get a paid vacation, and if you need a passport you'll have to wait a few weeks

From the footnotes of US v Sypher:

The court notes here that defense counsel appears to have cobbled much of his statement of the law governing ineffective assistance of counsel claims by cutting and pasting, without citation, from the Wikipedia web site. Compare Supplemental to Motion for New Trial (DN 199) at 18-19 with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strickland_v._Washing ton (last visited Feb. 9, 2011). The court reminds counsel that such cutting and pasting, without attribution, is plagiarism. The court also brings to counsel's attention Rule 8.4 of the Kentucky Rules of Professional Conduct, which states that it is professional misconduct for an attorney to "engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation." SCR 3.130(c). See also In re Burghoff, 374 B.R. 681 (Bankr. N.D. Iowa 2007) (holding that counsel's plagiarism violated identical provision of Iowa Rules of Professional Conduct). Finally, the court reminds counsel that Wikipedia is not an acceptable source of legal authority in the United States District Courts.

I think keanu might realize that the soul of his career comes from bill and ted. And by revisiting where it all begins is the best way for him to regain the true keanu. This isn't a money grab by him, but more of a retrospective onto what it means to be keanu

joe on Friday, April 08, 2011 at 10:28 AM

When you had your lawn service, did you keep cutting people's lawns assuming they will eventually pay you when they get their budget in line?

Brock, is your research based on gov't funding? Will it affect you at all?

douglas on Friday, April 08, 2011 at 11:48 AM

i'm guessing he's state, not federal...

Brock on Friday, April 08, 2011 at 12:10 PM

If they missed paying for a week, their lawn tended to get higher because Id push to the back of the queue. A lot of people paid up front monthly. Our research funding is encumbered at the beginning of each year. If they do slash funding, then it'll come on the next year. However, they typically award less new funding versus cutting existing funding. It can happen though. However, it doesn't affect my salary. Id be let go before they the cut my salary. None of this should matter to me soon if I get this biotech job in Nashville or if I decide to start a company with this MBA student.

http://toughmudder.com/

Tough Mudder is 13 miles and Warrior Dash is 3 miles.

joe on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 10:11 AM

I don't like to run more then a couple miles. Even when I was a quasi-serious runner I never went more then 5k. I didn't care how far I could run, I just wanted to see how fast I could get done.

Brent on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 11:54 AM

I have to admit the Warrior Dash seems a little pathetic, I think 5 miles would be the optimal distance for something like this...it at least leaves a little room for error, with 3 miles, you mess up on one obstacle and it could cost you the race.

"I rescued an octopus from a local market, it's been in my house for about a day (I used to watch my friend's exotic fish when he was out of town so I have all the equipment I need). Anyway I bought a six pack of Guinness while I was bringing the octopus home and left it on the table next to the tank. Somehow this dipshit got out of the tank, which had a screen and rock on top of it, opened one of my beers and somehow managed to drink it. It's midnight and I don't know if I should take him to a vet or what. Would a vet even look at an octopus?"

I think I am going to do the $25 thing, dump the house phone and change some of the packages around. I need ESPNU which is the digital standard package which is $10 a month for all the ESPNs like news and U, Versus, DIY, cooking and everything else that is new in HD, while I don't need the HDPack which is HDNet, Universal HD and 4 other channels which are $8 a month. I think that is a good trade figuring when UL plays on ESPNU I spend money at resteraunts so it pays for itself.

Brent on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 10:50 AM

I had DirectTV and I really liked the service but it was a lot more expensive than Insight. So my goal was to save money and since I dont watch TV that much I decided to go with Insight but my ultimate goal was too save money. The best thing I liked about DirectTV was I could record things from an app on my iPhone. That was really neat.

cousin's pickup games of football, basketball, frisbee or whatever the game at my grandparent's house, the question yesterday was when do you no longer become an early pick in team selection and become the old guy in a bad way? I was the oldest person in the alley by at least 4 years and I was trying to decide if I am now the late round pick against the late high school and college kids. The answer I came up with to not be humiliated was guarantee that I am a captain.

Phil on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 1:48 PM

Last year when I was dating that UK fan I had the idea of registering ItsGoodToBeHatedAgain.com and selling UK t-shirts with shit like this on them.

Ideas that I had:
Back-to-Back-to-Back #1 Recruiting Classes
It's Good to be Hated Again slogan
You Hate Because You Are Jealous
NY Times is Jealous it is KY Time now (not a classic)
Eat Shit Pete Thamel
Got Big Enis t-shirt (not applicable anymore)

New ideas:
Mecca Of College Basketball
Got Teague? (in red and blue)
Fear the Unibrow (for anthony davis)

The best part is that I wouldn't even need to make them look good. Just throw some shit on a blue t-shirt and start printing money!

Genius

pooholes and ryan howard are the only two I could think of that are MVPs that have played in world series recently.

Kirk Gibson did it too I think. I seem to recall on the highlight video of his come run them flashing that stat. Other than that it's probably someone from the old reds teams from the 70s like Johnny Bench or Joe Morgan.

My guess with Kanter is that Bender was acting on his own and running his mouth. The dude is delusional. I just don't get how Bender gets associated with Kanter to begin with.

joe on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 3:00 PM

http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/commen...ef_i_flew_both/

I liked this part: "Cheney was a dick in several ways. He was always late, 15 min at least. He never saluted except in one occasion when there was mass publicity. He was always grouchy and left a mess in the helicopter. Also, part of our job was making sure the back of the plane was stocked with snacks and whatnot and he would take every packet of peanuts he could find! I even tested it one time and I put 12 packs, 12!, in the back...all gone. This sounds dumb but it was just one small thing to irk a crew chief...because that meant you had to restock them all which was a pain."

So the 4th of July is coming down the pike. I will be ordering some parts to build my next launcher very soon. I also have requested the 5th off.

I have a pretty bad ass idea for a grand finale. We will be putting last years to shame. The launcher i am going to start building will be part of the finale since it will take forever to load up the shells. We can use the 10 shot launcher for shooting shells up until the finale.

We will need to hit up the free shells so we have a lot of filler up until the finale. And by God those ass clowns down the street got owned last year and I am sure they will re group and try to compete. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Phil on Wednesday, May 04, 2011 at 11:55 PM

My buddy pat might come. He has 300 mortars left over from last year that he didn't shoot off because of the police.

Phil on Thursday, May 05, 2011 at 12:40 PM

adrian on Friday, May 06, 2011 at 8:14 AM

Knight would be a fool for staying with Teague coming in

joe on Friday, May 06, 2011 at 8:14 AM

deener just said that jones actually could stay. who would thought TJ at UK stays and TJ at Louisville goes.

douglas on Friday, May 06, 2011 at 8:16 AM

the difference is jones can actually still improve his draft stock, jennings didn't have much of a chance to do that and with a weak draft, he's taking his chances now

Jess said Jones looks like a ninja turtle. That cracked me up.

douglas on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 3:39 PM

where are you ending up moving to?

Bigworm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 3:47 PM

We haven't bought a house yet Douglas. We went to look at this house in St. Matthews last weekend. It has a 1/2 acre lot and I loved the house when I walked through the door, but then I got to the 2nd floor and basement which were all chopped up, complete opposite of what we have now.

http://www.semonin.com/PropertyDeta...amp;AgoraPage=1

I am stalking the Woods of St. Thomas, Holly Springs, and keep looking in the Mockingbird Valley and Indian Hills areas. Owl Creek has a couple houses that I like over there but not sure if we want to live that far east or not.

Any neighborhood suggestions?

Bigworm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 3:49 PM

I wouldn't even mind finding a house that isn't turn key, but rather one that I can renovate. We found one of those in Hurstbourne that we like, but I think it would be just too much renovation. Quite frankly I don't have time while in school.

joe on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:06 PM

so someone bought your house already?

joe on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:08 PM

I like Indian Hills, but the trick to that is finding one that has been updated. Same with hurstbourne. Those houses are all in the wierd older age range so you need to put some work in to modernize them.

joe on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:08 PM

its sad what I consider old homes now.

Bigworm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:09 PM

Yeah, it was on the market for about 2 weeks and we got an offer and negotiated back and fourth, settling in at the midpoint between their offer and our listing price. We are extremely happy with selling and we made some cash on our house. We close next Friday. Total time lapse is 5 weeks from when we put it on the market.

Now just trying to find a new place.

Bigworm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:13 PM

Exactly Joe, you are absolutely correct. Plus, trying to find a basement that doesn't have low basement ceiling heights is near impossible in that time frame. I think that is what I have realized most here recently. If I buy an "older" house then I am going to have to buy a 3000 square feet above grade as those house's basements were mainly used for storage and laundry and not finishing for living purposes.

Bigworm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:14 PM

We are also trying to find a place with at least 0.3 acres of land, hard to have in St. Matts.

joe on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:14 PM

if you are in st. matthews accept the fact you will get water in your basement.

Bigworm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:17 PM

Why is that?

Bigworm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:17 PM

Plus I'd like a 4 bedroom and at least 2.5 baths.

Bigworm on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2:25 AM

Joe - my big complaint with insight is every month was a craps shoot as to what our bill would be. We were paying $185, then i canceled some stuff and restructured so it was $145. Next thing I know it was $168 and oscillated between $160 and $175....and we never rent movies or anything extra. It really confused me.

joe on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 6:27 AM

looks like all those states aren't any better than KY. in the dropdown box you can see all the states' fireworks laws. TN and MO seem to be by far the best places to buy them, at least in KY border states. i say we road trip it to TN one day, it's only a couple hours to the border

Tennesse, Pennsylvania and Missouri are listed as states that allow almost all consumer fireworks.

I'm taking a harassment class on harassment. Holy shit it is insane. First of all it starts with "You know that asian man who people poke fun of?" which is just comedy gold.

Then the reason they give for not making fun of people in wheelchairs and asians is that one day they might decide to sue the company for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Glad to know that corporate isn't worried that making fun of people in wheelchairs is a real dick move, it just could cost them some money.

Phil on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 8:50 PM

This is awesome. Apparently I am allowed to make fun of 25 year olds and weirdos, but people 45+, jewish, quadriplegic people and the italians are off limits.

45 seems a little too young to be protected. I got that wrong. Kind of surprised the italians are protected. Fucking itays

Phil on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 8:52 PM

Fuck. Communists working in an accounting department ARE NOT protected from harassment, but chinese people in american bookshops and men at a female only night club are.

I know that the person who sleeps around who wants a job in guest service wouldn't be protected. I do like the idea of someone saying they were discriminated against because they whored around to get a job though.

Phil on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 8:55 PM

Joe I just saw that also. Major BS! Oh well we will still be awesome

joe on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 9:01 AM

powder keg's website has free artillery shells with $49 purchase. I have a feeling we will still get some free artillery shells. Good news is there are excalibur coupons! Excalliburs, roman candles, black cats and red white and blues.

joe on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 9:03 AM

We are going to overthink the purchasing of fireworks. I'm going to DC through the 18th. I'd say lets go sometime between June 24th and July 1st.

adrian on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 9:16 AM

Sounds good to me

adrian on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 9:20 AM

Also at one of the red neck shops last year they were selling the cheap artillery shells for a couple bucks. Worst case we can get some boxes of those for filler

joe on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 9:22 AM

I'll talk to my neighbor Trin about a school project model home to shoot with roman candles.

adrian on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 9:25 AM

Eiffel Tower or Mosque would be kind of funny

douglas on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 10:57 AM

at least we'd run a lower risk of getting nabbed by secret service. i do like the mosque idea, we could put little osama figurines on it

Phil on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 11:13 AM

What about the osama compound?

Bigworm on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 12:49 PM

I believe if you use the Osama compound, then you have to have "America. FUCK YEAH!" playing in the background.

joe on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 12:53 PM

they need an osama compound lego set.

douglas on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 1:07 PM

that'd be fine too. i'm surprisingly not picky about what we blow up. as long as it catches fire i'm fine with it

Trin said he will work on the Osama compound. Awesome.

joe on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 6:31 PM

Trin gets dibs on first round of go kart roman candle jousting if he provides the osama compound. I think it is a fair trade off.

Brock on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 9:20 PM

Since the 4th is on a Monday, does the big event go on Sunday night?

joe on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 9:39 PM

it goes off on the 4th of July.

Phil on Thursday, June 02, 2011 at 11:56 PM

joe on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 9:13 AM

Adrian and I have been discussing the potential for a 4th of July casualty. Adrian says shouldn't be one, but no guarantees. I'm thinking the odds are pretty high.

adrian on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 9:48 AM

I got something from big fireworks yesterday in the mail. One coupon was 50% off one item. That means I can get a case of Excalibur for around 40 bucks. HooooHooooHaaaHaaa HurrrrHurrrrHaahhhhaaa

joe on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 10:09 AM

Do we need to strategize the purchases to maximize our explosives?

adrian on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 10:14 AM

Yep! I have an idea what I want for the finale so the best way we can maximize the coupons to buy the firework cakes and shells then we should be good.

I hope we see that red neck again so I can try and have him sell me a box of Exterminators for 15 bucks

adrian on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 10:17 AM

I hope the people down the street step up their arsenal this year

douglas on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 10:36 AM

i have a feeling any step up in their game is rather inconsequential in comparison to us

Phil on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 11:03 AM

i actually had a dream about buying fireworks last night.

at the fireworks store they had free samples of jager

joe on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 11:19 AM

in our stepping it up efforts, we need to avoid getting the cops called.

adrian on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 11:39 AM

True that Joe.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 12:08 PM

Does it matter if the cops get called as long as they don't see you setting anything off? So after the finale and keep big stuff inside until you set them off......all good.

adrian on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 12:08 PM

I plan on ordering the tubes this weekend and buy more wood to finish the mortar rack. Glory lasts forever!

adrian on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 12:11 PM

Just think Joe that after the 4th everyone would want to vote for you to be Mayor of St. Mathews on the basis of being awesome.

Worst idea for a drink ever...Voodoo Daiquiri.

Consists of bourbon, everclear, and grape in daiquiri form. Served at the oldest bar in the US in NOLA.

Wrecking Crew on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 12:28 PM

Scratch that...Cherrybomb is the worst.

Maricino cherrys soaked in everclear. 3 served in a shot, eat them and then drink the juice.

adrian on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 12:38 PM

For the cherrybomb what liquor is in the shot?

Phil on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 12:43 PM

Phil on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 1:46 PM

you make that sound like having walkie talkies is a bad thing

douglas on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 4:04 PM

not at all, just saying they'd be more efficient than using phones to time everything right. if we've already got them, even better

douglas on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 4:05 PM

the ones i have don't work anymore, plus they are princess ones, so it wouldn't look very cool using them to blow things in the air

Phil on Friday, June 03, 2011 at 4:34 PM

Next wednesday I'm going to ask Jen Coe how to best keep the fuzz out of our hair.

joe on Saturday, June 04, 2011 at 11:24 AM

hell of an idea phil. Officer Coe to the rescue. I don't think any one has any real concern other then the loss of fireworks other than me since I am the homeowner. I like chris' idea of basically leaving the fireworks in the house or garage and bringing them out in shifts. My neighbor cut her big tree down so we have 1 less fire hazard.

Good. I am glad that tree is gone. By the way the launcher is finished.

douglas on Saturday, June 04, 2011 at 4:29 PM

Nice. Keeping the heavy artillery hidden is a good idea, although I'm not too worried about the cops, I don't ever remember them being much of an issue during the fireworks. Just talk to the neighbors beforehand. Of course most of the neighbors will be watching anyway

joe on Saturday, June 04, 2011 at 4:42 PM

the 50 launcher is taking it over the top. Are we only using the 50 launcher once?

adrian on Saturday, June 04, 2011 at 5:02 PM

The 50 shot will be used for the finale. I t takes a while to load all the shells and wire them up. I am wiring it it up to load it sequentially and not all 50 shot at once.

Wrecking Crew on Sunday, June 05, 2011 at 1:49 PM

Sequentially, so 50 go off in a row? It's a 5x10 box, right? Or are you going to have one from each row going off at a time, so 5 at a time for 10 shots? Of course 50 at once would be kinda badass.

joe on Sunday, June 05, 2011 at 2:51 PM

I'm leaning 50 in a row, at the same time as the 10 shooter, and also some of those mortar boxes that we had last year all at the same time for the finale.

adrian on Sunday, June 05, 2011 at 4:52 PM

Yeah it's a 5X10 box that will be wired to go off one after the other. I am planning for about a 1-2 second delay between each shot so as a shell is getting ready to explode in the air another one launches.

joe on Sunday, June 05, 2011 at 5:24 PM

Or maybe just buy a discount one.

I enjoyed this on deadspin's the balls deep today:
Was just reading a piece on Vulture...an interview with 14 TV Showrunners. The first section is on their best failed pitch. Kevin Biegel, of Cougar Town and Scrubs offered this:

"There's a real script floating around for a show called Time Jack, about a guy who, every time he masturbates, he travels through time. If he hates the time, he whacks off and he's gone. If he loves it, he can stay-as long as he doesn't masturbate. The idea is the low point of us as a society, but such a tremendous low point that I wish I'd created it."

The question is...say you jump to the late 60s, music is awesome, anything goes, broads are givin up the tail like its going out of style...how long do you last before the need to rub one out sends you twisting through time? And the other side, you're transported to Nazi Germany, how long do you get stuck there? Do you drop trou in the middle of Berlin and start pounding away, hoping you can finish before you're beaten and locked up? Considering you just finished up, are you able to bounce back and draw a map of Hawaii on your stomach in a pressure packed situation?

Phil on Tuesday, June 07, 2011 at 10:30 PM
