it brings up a he-man video set to the 'what's goin' on' song, extremely gay and makes me regret being obsessed with that show growing up

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, June 09, 2011 at 3:50 PM

I still like DVR'ing a game and starting it about half way through, so I can finish it almost live. You get to cut out the commercials and down time, but still enjoy the liveness of the game.

Phil on Thursday, June 09, 2011 at 3:54 PM

With the exception of the Stanley Cup Finals I did a pretty bang up job starting 30 minutes late and catching up to the last 10 minutes of the game live. Nice skipping the intermission reports.

Basketball is too dynamic, and with Louisville it is impossible given I generally receive 30 texts a game from people at the game or watching it live.

I have no idea what transpired before the punch. I do recall Chris teasing me, so it would make perfect sense that he would follow said teasing with a random right hook.

All I know is that my face is becoming immune to this stuff because there wasn't any sign the following morning. I did pass out in the bed with a bag of frozen peas, so that may have been the cure.

Anyone interested in doing the Jack and Back ride this year?

Since my biking partner will be on the DL in October, I'll throw it out to you.

Its a 75-mile ride from Nashville to Lynchburg. They have a party at Jack Daniels that night, then 75 miles back. Its all for charity and CVS has a team organized that I'll probably go with again if I decide to do it.

the transaction occured by greg banging on my door handing me money and saying I like mortars. It be easier if you pick the stuff up when you go. You know what i like.

joe on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 6:57 PM

anyone in on fireworks, the e-doug, phil, adrian and joe firework run sponsored by platt mechanical is going after 2 on saturday to purhcase the explosives. If you want to go, make donations or provide coupons they will be greatly appreciated.

like big fireworks on facebook and received a coupon for a free roll of 488 firecrackers.

joe on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 9:11 PM

Update on osama's compound. The plans have been drawn up and he is going to do it the 4 days before the fourth. Apparently he is going scale model and the height of a gi Joe is equal to a 6 foot person. He has it where like 1 centimeter is equal to 4 meters. He said all kinds of numbers but I wasn't listening. He said he may hide some small bags of lighter fluid so we have explosions.

He asked about the fireworks and he said that last year was epic so this year sounds twice as epic.

Phil on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 1:24 AM

this lightning storm is pretty bad ass

douglas on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 9:52 AM

small bags of lighter fluid? haha, i can't wait...

adrian on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:40 AM

I don't think the fireworks are going to be the issue for the cops. It will probably be drunken go carts and am on fire inthe middle of the street.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM

How long will it take 50 consecutive mortars to go off? May want to think about that before deciding how you want to run the fuse. With as much shit as it sounds like there will be, it may give the cops an easy way to find us while people are actually lighting stuff in the street.

joe on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:02 AM

Go karts, if we get them, will be an earlier in the day thing. I plan on locking those up before things get too interesting.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:45 AM

Can we drive them like the Shriners in the parade?

douglas on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:48 AM

if we can put a recliner on a push cart for the parade, we can ride go karts

adrian on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:50 AM

I guess 50 would take between 30-60 seconds depending how it gets wired and how fast the fuse burns.

douglas on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:55 AM

i think a better question is if we're riding them in the parade after we've had a couple drinks, do we get a DUI?

adrian on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:55 AM

Joe I saw some clips on YouTube of ProShell brand shells. Looks pretty badass. They seem to be on par with the X's and 10-20 bucks cheaper per 24 count box. Mwahahahaahhaha!

joe on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 12:15 PM

I just know we need some repeaters, some shells, and some roman candles. I'm leaning towards making a cash donation and going as moral support on the firework trip and letting you do the dirty work. We need a few bodies to split the fireworks up to maximize coupons.

joe on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 12:18 PM

I think the parade is fair game for go karts, just don't run anything over. No word on when the parade is yet.

Basically, just don't do anything too stupid as in comparison to past years.

douglas on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 1:01 PM

i think most of my coupons are for phantom and big fireworks

Basically we have Phil, adrian, douglas, Platt and me getting fireworks. Martinez family always has theirs. Brody brought some good shit last year. Kyle, Joanna's sisters husband, has brought some in the past too.

We need shells, repeaters, black cats and roman candles. Adrian, how many shells do you think sounds like enough?

Last year we probably had around 75 shells. This year I am thinking 100 - 125 would be sufficient.

Drive down the strip and count the tiny bottle shops, check-cashing stores, junk shops, gas station-convenience shops, a 24-hour diner and even a supermarket so widely, if unjustly, known as “Dirty” Kroger that even former Louisville mayor Dave Armstrong once uttered the term to me in an on-the-record interview.

douglas on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 10:00 PM

Phil on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 2:13 AM

I'm still giddy. I had a great time out with brent on his birthday, but nothing can top random Hoosiers getting psyched over the plans for the 4th.

Right now the firework situation is definitely 100% awesome, so the food needs to match it. How do we bring the thunder on that?

Phil on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 2:35 AM

Joe - where do we stand on the go karts?

joe on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 9:38 AM

Brisket is the main food item. Laura has a solid menu planned.

Go karts are still in the works. We didn't make it out last night with the go kart owner. If you have one dog spayed and one neutered at the same time cancel all your plans.

joe on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 12:36 PM

we bought a few roman candles, we may need more for the demolition of the compound if anyone is going out. We focused our energy on bigger things, not roman candles.

Phil on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 10:22 PM

so bob upstairs is thinking about starting an indoor sports facility where the RV store in Indiana used to be, featuring Arena Softball (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viVrdm3epF4). I'm thinking of investing in this.

When softball isn't being played the netting between the two fields can be taken down open it up to be used for flag football, ultimate frisbee, soccer, lacrosse, or whatever.

Seems like a fun place to me

Phil on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at 10:49 PM

joe/adrian - I learned some valuable info, but not sure if it helps this year.

Someone from Never Ever has a sister or some shit that owns a fireworks place in Indiana - maybe fort wayne. Theoretically we may be able to get fireworks at cost next year...

Phil on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 12:56 PM

Apparently there is typically a 600% markup on fireworks. So the cost would be about half what we spent on Saturday

douglas on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:12 PM

maybe that would help to finally get us over and above what we did last year

adrian on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:27 PM

joe on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:27 PM

adrian on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:31 PM

Joe can you get confirmation of the status of the compound from your neighbor?

Phil on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:33 PM

fireworks aren't that fun until you experience the purchasing of them. Adds an entirely different perspective to the stupidity.

Brock on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 1:56 PM

Phil on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 2:56 PM

joe on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 3:03 PM

Phil on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 5:45 PM

My fear with soft styrofoam is that the shot will get stuck in it and quickly catch fire. Then we all die from breathing burning styrofoam.

i like the laura school of thought in that she is more scared of the sparklers and bottle rockers. We are more careful with the big stuff. With the little stuff we light them in our hands and throw them at each other.

joe on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2:44 PM

or throw entire bricks of them in to fire pits that we are all standing around.

joe on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2:45 PM

It the martinez's are indeed out of town for the 4th at a funeral, ew are hurt because we don't have much filler. They were entertainment while we reloaded.

joe on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2:47 PM

so us with fireworks blowing our hands off is the equivalent of the kid with the red rider bb gun in christmas story.

Phil on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2:50 PM

Talked to some guys that do engineering at GE last night about some techniques for the Osama compound. They said stay away from Styrofoam because that'll turn to molten mush that'll be dangerous, smell and be difficult to clean up. Balsa wood was declared the best choice, but they agreed that the cardboard I had was thick enough to deflect roman candles and bottle rockets.

They also recommend instead of gasoline to shave off the sparklers and pack the shavings into tiny bags to get a nice little bang when they get hit.

joe on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 2:53 PM

I sent my neighbor trinity one of those sorry for your loss if there is anything you need just yell messages. In response he asked for a plane ticket home for the 4th of July. Kid is clever.

Phil on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 3:11 PM

if they come I'll talk them into bringing some Wisconsin style snacks, which I understand to be string cheese cut into cubes with cocktail sauce for dipping

adrian on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 3:48 PM

Leftover Excaliburs?

1) I would be glad to take them off of their hands
2) There should never be left over Excaliburs. Just sayin'

Phil on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 4:15 PM

I think there is a combination of Pat being a one man show setting them off one by one, plus he shares the same enthusiasm for buying them that you guys do. So he ends up with extras once he gets too drunk or bored to keep lighting them off individually.

joe on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 8:03 PM

Wrecking Crew on Tuesday, July 05, 2011 at 2:37 PM

Joe, I think you found a bad question.

Who are the players who have homered for 10 different MLB teams?

Kenny Lofton (11 teams homered for all but 1)
Todd Zeile (11 teams homered for all)
Matt Stairs (12 teams homered for all)
Royce Clayton (11 teams homered for all but 2)

Per baseball-reference.com there are 3 to have done it. Matt Stairs had already done it before that home run with the Nats. Included Clayton just b/c he is the only other non-pitcher to play for more than 10 teams per some yahoo article.

Phil on Wednesday, July 06, 2011 at 2:45 PM

Third place. Could have had first had my brain been working better. Only two sports questions - old Joe Montana was on the picture round and I got him. The second one was a bitch for me. Name the catcher that Pete Rose ran over in the 1970 all-star game. No way in hell would I have gotten that.

Last one was name the borough that the hot dog eating contest is held on. All I knew was it was on Coney island which I mistakenly thought was a borough thanks to the Warriors.

"The mustache game: stick 1 or more fake mustaches on your television. Watch something. anytime someone looks like they have a mustache on, drink!"

Phil on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 3:39 PM

Another one:
The game is called "Stump"

Materials: Hammer, nails, tree stump (a slice of a tree trunk that hasn't been split is easier to find)

Everyone sits in a circle around the stump and has their own nail just barely nailed in. So you end up with a circle of nails sticking out of the top. Each person takes a turn flipping the hammer up in the air, catching it and attempting to slam someone else's nail all the way in without readjusting the hammer once caught. If you hit someones nail they drink, if you drive it in they chug and are eliminated. If sparks fly off the nail everyone drinks.

Pretty wicked burn by the Federal Court of Appeals, Mom suing over her daughter getting kicked off the cheerleading team.

"Usually we do not comment on technical and grammatical errors, because anyone can make such an occasional mistake, but here the miscues are so egregious and obvious that an average fourth grader would have avoided most of them. …

"And finally, the sentence containing the word 'incompetence' makes no sense as a matter of standard English prose, so it is not reasonably possible to understand the thought, if any, that is being conveyed. It is ironic that the term 'incompetence' is used here, because the only thing that is incompetent is the passage itself."

Phil texted me a good trivia question:

Who has the most gold gloves at each of these positions - P, SS, 3B, OF?

Wrecking Crew on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11:46 AM

My guesses

P- G. Maddux
SS- Ozzie Smith
3B- Brooks Robinson
OF- Griffey Jr

How old is the gold glove award, anyway?

Wrecking Crew on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11:49 AM

Well for anyone who cares to make a guess, I got 2 of the 4, and it has been awarded since 1957.

Most by a 1B...Keith Hernandez

joe on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 12:12 PM

P - maddux passed jim Kaat
SS - I am torn between ozzie and omar visquel
3b - brooks robinson
Of - I was guessing between griffey, tori hunter, edmonds, ichiro and clemente. the age of the award scared me away from clemente though. knowing 1957 I would guess clemente.

joe on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:13 PM

Cuban's guess:
P - Maddux
SS - Ozzie Smith
3rd - Brooks Robinson
OF - Torii Hunter

Phil on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:26 PM

We got them all correct at trivia last night, but not knowing the age of the award scared us. But the is a tie for clemente and willie mays. SS is ozzie, P is maddux and 3rd is brooks robinson.

3rd was actually had a bit of a debate between Robinson and Mike Schmidt. Luckily I talked Kyle into it. We guessed on Mays - I thought it was Griffey or maybe even Ichiro though

joe on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:31 PM

Too easy of a question to over think.

Phil on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:34 PM

Nice little trivia question. Seems like one he'll repeat, maybe with other positions. 2B is pretty easy although I'm pretty surprised how close the top 4are. I would have never gotten 1B in a million years.

Ok, dumb baseball question on that play. Scott Proctor face planted and still was only half way to first after the "no tag". Two ours. If the catcher throws to first to get Proctor is the inning over and the run doesn't count? I've never understood that rule

joe on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:50 PM

if the 3rd out is a force out, the run doesn't count.

I havent seen the play yet. If there are 2 outs why wouldnt they just go straight to first base?

Phil on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 2:16 PM

It was a slow roller down the 3rd base line. Throw beat the runner by a good 5 feet, and it would have been a tough off balanced throw to 1st I'd think.

Alive and well in north Carolina on vacation. Random story about me feeling like a total asshole last night, taking a shit after dinner in Myrtle beach and of course I go for the handicapped stall, I mean when have you ever seen a handicapped person ever actually need that stall...well now I have. A blind guy comes in with a dog and someone else leading him around, the guy tries to open the door to my stall, I'm busy at the moment, so I just hear the guy sigh and tell the blind guy to go in the small one next to me, so he's in there with his dog in the small stall and the dogs paw is right next to my foot. As I hurriedly left in shame, the guy helping the blind guy saw was waiting by the sink and I could hear him calling me a total asshole with his mind.

http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/c...ut_someone_you/

am openly gay, and everyone in my office knows. A new guy started several months ago. His desk is located directly beside mine. We quickly became close friends. One day at work, he e-mails me and asks me if I was busy Saturday. I say no, and he tells me to come over and bring rollerblades.
So Saturday arrives. I show up, we go rollerblading. He buys me ice cream at the park. We go see Bridesmaids. He invites me upstairs. I lean in for a kiss. He backs away.
"You're gay???" He asks.
"Uhh.... yeah....."
"Well, I'm not."
I awkwardly left and we barely talk at work anymore. Seriously, this was THE gayest date I've ever been on. And that includes dates that involve gay sex.

So the more I think of it I feel what I did was borderline immoral. Basically Nick and I forced turner into going home with a girl. We practically walked him to her car so he couldn't escape.

If turner was a female, we'd certainly be in jail. But I still feel what we did was for the greater good

douglas on Friday, August 05, 2011 at 2:39 PM

joe and i did something similar long ago, we started walking home from bars b/c we wouldn't get in a car w/ scroggin b/c we wanted him to take home a former derby princess

4 active major league players are the all time franchise hits leader for their current team. Who are they? I dont know the answer. So far the only guarentees are Jeter and Helton. The other 2 we have guesses of chipper which is a no because of hank Aaron, Jimmy rollins which is a no because of Mike Schmidt I think, Hanley Ramirez, Paul Konerko, Michael Young, Ichiro. Ichiro i suspect may be right, but edgar martinez worries me.

douglas on Tuesday, August 09, 2011 at 8:11 AM

i would think ichiro is probably right, he's been dominating under the radar for a long time now

Wrecking Crew on Tuesday, August 09, 2011 at 9:09 AM

I was thinking it would have to be someone from the Rays (Evan Longoria?) or Nationals unless you count the Expos in with the Nationals organization. I would rule out Ichiro b/c of Edgar as well. Konerko no b/c of the Big Hurt. Ramierez is a solid guess, but has he been around long enough?

Brock on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 12:56 AM

So I was looking at the Fantasy Football league hopelessly trying to come up with a new team name and I noticed that the league has records all the way back to 2003.

Champs: 2-Joe, 2-Green Baron, 2-Brock, 1-Phil, 1-Brent
Runner Up: 4-Joe, 1-Brock, 1-Chris, 1-Douglas, 1-Scroggins

The Brock-Joe playoff rivalry: Joe leads head-to-head matchup 2-1 (winner always makes finals). In the 4 years that neither has won the title, the eventual winner of the title had to beat Joe every time.

Regular season rivalry: Brock leads series 11-3-1 (a TIE in '06), I have won last 6 meetings (rivalry?).

Bring on 2011!

That was a nice distraction...

Phil on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 1:37 AM

I did some work getting the legacy stats on there

Brock on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 8:53 AM

douglas on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 10:07 AM

i'm guessing that's all playoff finishes? how do you see it? i don't see where it's at...i'd be interested in regular season finishes, i always seem to finish towards the top in the regular season, and then flame out in the playoffs b/c of studs being benched

joe on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 12:39 PM

I've decided that if it comes down to a sprint at the end of the alumni run tonight between me and my cousin I may have to tackle him.

Top 2 finishes: Brock 6, Douglas 3, Phil 3, Joe 2, Brent 2
Top 3 finishes: Brock 6, Douglas 5, Brent 4, Phil 3, Joe 3, 3 others 1

joe on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 6:21 AM

I think being old and fat is a bigger handicap then shin splints. The course is poorly marked and you have no clue how much further you have so you don't know when to pick it up. I easily could have gone faster but I don't see the point.

joe on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 6:23 AM

I like how I am still on top of first place finishes whether it is playlets or regular season.

Brock on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 9:03 AM

Joe, the stats may be decieving you there. Considering there are between 6-8 teams each year, finishing in the top 3 so many times has a high probability simply due to the fact we participate every year. Phil, I'll pass the word. We've been doing a family league every year on Yahoo just as long as the Natty Sci league, so they don't have a good excuse NOT to join.

joe on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 9:26 AM

Hey all, sorry to breakup the sports talk.

But I wanted to let you know I will finally be making an honest woman out of Tiffany, and be marrying her in Las Vegas in November. We will be staying out there from Nov 10 - 14. We have not yet scheduled the chapel yet, but plan to do so on Monday. The most likely date of the wedding will be the 11th.

We realize some of you will not be able to attend do to work and family commitments. This is sort of like an elopement "with notice". For those who can and want to attend, you are welcome to do so. Tiffany is a Groupon queen so we can look out for deals for those who may want to attend, to make it cheaper, as we know attending would require more money and effort than the traditional in-town wedding.

We will eventually be sending out invitations, with more details and with a link to the eventual webcam for those unable to attend. However, we wanted to give enough warning to those who desire to attend, to be able to make arrangements.

Here is a one of the cheaper deals we have seen that might help if you plan to attend.
$49 a night at the Clarion on the Strip.

Ochsner has a suite at the game. Bobby Jackson (bartender/ guy you need to know) stAffs it. I was told if I make friends with him my life is supposed to be more fun. 400 level booze and food. Saintsations (Saints cheerleadres) make the rounds. Pretty sweet from what little I saw of the suite at the first game.

was rondo in lexington tonight?

douglas on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:04 AM

rondo was in lex last night for the UK legends game, yes. it was fun. garcia got off by the way, and sosa had about 10 fouls. that's not an exaggeration, they didn't have foul outs, sosa had about 4 in the first quarter and continued to play

joe on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:21 AM

paper said he had 9 fouls. garcia dropped 30 and sosa dropped 29.

Brent on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 12:21 PM

Anybody want to go tonight?

joe on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 1:54 PM

too bad garcia is lost out in sacramento with cousins, you just don't hear much about the kings. Sosa I will never like except for 1 shot in his career.

Phil on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 5:40 PM

I always enjoy the Football Outsider's Almanac. This, however, is their opening for the Bills preview:
The Bills have been stuck in a rut since we started
writing these books seven years ago, and composing
a Bills “season outlook” chapter, whether for Football
Outsiders Almanac or any other publication, has
become an exercise in rote predictability. Every year,
we hit the same marks. We discuss the merits of the
new quarterback, dissecting his modest success from
the previous year and expressing measured skepticism
about his often dubious credentials as a longterm
solution. We do something similar for the running
back, always a recent first-round pick, usually
concluding that he is likely to max out as a committee
back, not a superstar. We note the flow of talented
young free agents out of Buffalo and the trickle of
troubled second-chance veterans in. We talk about
economic depression in upstate New York and the
prospects of relocation. We search for polite ways
to say that nothing will change until Ralph Wilson
earns a reward greater than any Super Bowl trophy,
and feel ghoulish and self-ashamed if we express
that depressing fact too directly. Almost guiltily,
we applaud whatever truly great players are still on
the roster — Kyle Williams, hooray! — or give the
scouting department undue praise for simple accomplishments,
like not squandering a draft pick or successfully
developing a few young players. We don’t
want to sound like we are bashing the Bills, because
we feel kind of sorry for them.

Phil on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 5:47 PM

The closing:
A .500 season is certainly possible, a playoff appearance is extremely unlikely, and any suggestion that the Bills are taking the right steps toward a better future is squelched by the fact that their quarterback is a 28-year-old journeyman and any middle-tier stars the team develops fly out of Buffalo on the first plane that leaves after their contracts expire. So we end by noting that things will be different for the Los Angeles Bills in a few years, then realize that most Bills previews end with this once-clever observation, and finally sigh in resignation and disappointment, a sound with which Bills fans are very, very familiar.

Dear Friends, Family, and Valued Associates,

It is that time of the year again. The leaves are about to turn the most beautiful red and yellows hues you have ever set your eyes on, pools are starting close, the Rocky Mountain Bull Elk are about to begin there mating season, Hubers is about to be overrun by couples and families excited to pick apples and pumpkins straight off the branch and vine, and Starbucks is about to release their pumpkin spice latte. Is there anything that can make you more excited about fall? Oh yeah, how's about we add some f**kin football to that picture!!!

Yes folks it is that time of year. Time when enormous grown men beat the living hell out of each other for our amusement, 53 year old accountants paint up for football games, and your wife/gf (or husband Missy) knows to leave you the hell alone from Saturday-Tuesday. It also marks the return of the Pick Em' Leagues.

I have taken over the league I have been in for the past couple of years with some family and friends. It is always a good time and it makes games like the Bengals vs Browns (sorry Pop and Scott) somewhat interesting. If you are unfamiliar with exactly how this works, please read the attached word doc that explains the league. The entry for this year is going to be $30. The attached excel spreadsheet shows you exactly how much the winners will get at the end of the year, depending on how many individuals enter the league. There will also be a weekly payout to the individual who has the highest point total each week. The weekly payouts are determined by how may players are in the league. For example say we have 25 people sign up, then the winner of each week will receive $25. If after reading the rules if you still have any questions email me. After much ridicule I will try to answer your question to the best of my ability.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in respond to this email and let me know, and I will send you the invitation to join the league. If you would like a different email address let me know that too in your reply. Also please make your checks payable to me, Sean Carroll, or just give me cash money. If you need my address I will supply it.

Please feel free to pass this email along to anyone you think might be interested in joining the league, my pool does not discriminate against any race or religion (unless your Rodney, he has to pay $60). I hope all of you can be a part of the fun that is going to ensue this upcoming football season. Good luck my friends, I look forward to hearing back form all of you.

Respect,
Sean

joe on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 10:04 AM

Each week pick the winners of all NFL games, straight up, no spread considered
Weight the game the highest in which you believe you have the greatest chance of winning
If there are 16 games for the week put 16 on the team you feel the strongest on, working your way through all the games until you assign a 1 on the team you think will win your toss up game
Pick total points scored in the Monday night game for the tie breaker, if two people are tied after all games are played for the week the individual closest to the total points without going over will win the week
In the event there are two Monday night games, the second game will be the one used for the total point tie breaker
Submission of your picks must be made 1 hour before kickoff of the first Sunday game, in the event there is a Thursday or Saturday game your picks for those games must be submitted prior to 1 hour before the respective kickoff, all remaining games must be submitted one hour prior to the first Sunday kickoff
If you fail to submit your picks for that week, you will receive the lowest point total for that week minus 1
The payout each week to the individual week winner will be based on the number of participants in the pool, for example, if there are 20 people in the pool, the winner each week would receive a $20 dollar payout.
The remaining pool proceeds will be paid out at the end of the regular season for the top three finishers based on their cumulative points for the year, with payouts of approximately 60% of the remaining pool to the 1st place finisher, 30% to the 2nd place finisher and 10% to the 3rd place finisher
CBSsports.com will be used to track the pool, the commissioner of the league (Sean Carroll) will notify you of the login and password to gain access to the pool, you will also be required to set up your own individual log in and password for your account for picking purposes
Good luck and please feel free to forward this info to others who may be interested. Just give me their names and email addresses so I can send the invite. Godspeed my friends…

Taking a test so I know the ethics about human research before I can start doing any and came across this question...

An investigator planning to study behavioral changes during alcohol intoxication will pay subjects $600 for 6 hours of testing that includes drinking a moderate level of alcohol and completing several written questionnaires. He plans to recruit college students taking his courses, as well as economically disadvantaged and homeless people. Which of the following is the most important for the investigator to address before submitting the protocol to the IRB?

$600 for 6 hours of drinking? Where is this study and how do I sign up?

joe on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 12:34 PM

csaa football football is dead to me since the longhorns merged with the shamrocks and took Martha's name.

Wrecking Crew on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 12:54 PM

When did that happen? How many csaa teams are even left with all the mergers? DO they even have enough to field a league or do they just go straight to the toy bowl?

Phil on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 1:02 PM

Great moments in hockey coaching. Down by one with three minutes left I knew the refs would give us a penalty shot if they got a chance so I definitely told my team to take the fall, act hurt and be indignant. Sure enough with 45 seconds left we get a slashing penalty so I put the other team's goalie's son in to take the shot. Ties it up and we win in overtime

douglas on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 1:23 PM

who are the longhorns and shamrocks?

joe on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 1:27 PM

Ascension and St. Martha. Catholic Grade schools. Chris and I went to Ascension along with your cousins Pat and Emily and Jerome's kids do too. Ascension Longhorns can't field a football team so they merged with St. Martha Shamrocks.

Jerome on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 1:51 PM

There are 6-8 teams in each of the three divisions in 5th/6th and 7th/8th. There are a shitload of 3rd/4th grade teams. Ascension/Martha isn't the only merged team. John Paul Academy, St. Nicholas, St. Mary and Notre Dame are merged schools. Notre Dame merged football with St. Paul. St. Raphael/John Paul Academy is a team. St. Agnes/St. Francis is a team. Lourdes/St. Leonard/Sacred Heart Model is another team. St. Athanasius/Holy Family/St. Rita are another.

Jerome on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 2:39 PM

Brock on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 2:41 PM

Are St. Albert and Margaret Mary still merged? When Ty and I were there, it was the Margaret Mary team, but when Chip and Payton were there is was the Albert team because Albert got way bigger in those 8 years.

Jerome on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 2:42 PM

Albert and Margaret Mary are two separate entities. They each field a "JV" team too. JV is the new term for B team. They play games on Saturday with no toy bowl.

Someone on reddit posted this on "Stupidest thing you've done horny"
http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/c...done_while_you/

At the age of 12, I decided that I was clever, and that the reason why a blowjob felt so great must be because of the suction (I realized this was not the case when I was eventually able to perform autofelatio, but that's for a different thread). While in the shower, I stared at the empty shampoo bottle in the corner, and proceeded to have an awful idea.
I first realized that the neck of the bottle was too narrow to support even my 12 year old penis, so i began to reshape the surface of it. Only having access to limited tools, I decided that the best course of action was to cut off the edge of the bottle, and then melt it into a smooth surface using a lighter.

After beginning to melt the bottle, everything goes horribly wrong. The bottle itself starts on fire, and in a panic frenzy, I shake the bottle violently and cause a bead of molten plastic to hit my bare chest, leaving a scar which I have to this day.

I shrug off the losses of a second degree burn, and begin getting to business. After slipping my flaccid penis into the bottle and slowly pumping it, I realize that I have yet again underestimated the size of my penis, and the bottle gets stuck on me. In another episode of panic, I begin to run out of the bathroom (I had been doing this in the shower the whole time), into my room to grab a pair of scissors to cut off the bottle.
I then walk out of my room, still naked, partially in shock to see my mom standing before me and then have to try to explain why my chest is burned and my penis is bleeding

TL;DR Tried to build a blowjob machine out of a shampoo bottle with disastrous results.

when a company is coming for an estimate for a job, how long do you give them past the appt. time before you give up on them, especially with no phone call saying they are running late?

douglas on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 7:50 AM

20-30 mins, i take it as a sign that if they can't show up on time for an appt or at least let you know they're late, then how do you know they'll get the job done on time, the appt is the easy part

joe on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 8:03 AM

it was champion and they were about 20-25 minutes late. They apologized saying they were working at the fair and rush hour traffic from the fair to st. matthews is rough. A phone call I felt was appropriate.

They are cheaper then the first estimate and I like the sound of their work, but the first company on Monday was a lot more prepared and professional. But Champion said I get the referral discount. I'll see what the 3rd company today says.

douglas on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 8:31 AM

i guess that was luke? in his defense, he does all the estimates himself so it probably was a legit excuse, but yeah, he probably should've called. i will say he did my basement in one day, of course mine was probably a lot less trouble than yours would be, i only had two cracks to cover, and he actually went ahead and did two other small ones w/o charging me, and he had his mexicans in and out before i was home from work.

joe on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 8:43 AM

his cousin did the estimate. Sounds like they do a pretty thorough job. Pretty much he said they would do some trench thing that runs water to the sump pump before it can come in the basement. But he added that they will take care of any cracks that look to potentially be a future problem. When done they deoxidize the basement that removes all teh mold and mildew that is down there. He said it will be cleaner then when they started. If I had to pick today I think I would go with Champion over Highland waterproofing.

douglas on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 9:27 AM

yeah, that's the hardcore waterproofing system they've got, i remember him telling me about that, but i didn't need that. then again, i've never had to go swimming in my basement like you have. if i remember, they jackhammer essentially all around your basement, put a trench in there so that if any water does get in, it goes to the trench and flows to a new sump pump and is gone before it can pool. then they redo the concrete around the basement and make it look like new. what he told me is your basement will never flood again basically. on the cracks, they'll dig from the outside and put the waterproof sealant on it from the outside, if you put the sealent on the inside, water still gets in the crack on the outside and puts pressure on the foundation and the cracks will end up cracking again in the future. i remember coming home at lunch and having big ass holes dug up around my house with about 3 mexicans per hole. i got home after work though and you could barely tell they were there

joe on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 9:33 AM

that is exactly it. My main thing right now is just keeping water out to rid the house of mildew mold and the smell. Also I want to stop any further damage. No intent to redo the basement at this moment, but at least clean it up. Even if it is completely waterproof, I still don't know if I trust it enough to completely finisht the basement, even with the warranty stuff.

douglas on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 9:36 AM

you'd want to let it be for at least like a year or so to make sure it doesn't ever leak before you'd want to finish it

Brent on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 9:55 AM

If they are cheaper, I always give them more time. My buddy did the plumbing in my house, changed all the galvanized pipes to copper and installed a water heater for about $1500-2000 cheaper than what someone else would have charged me. Needless to say it took about 2.5 weeks but the money I saved was well worth it.

Have fun with the draft tonight. Looks like I will be covering a high school football game. After starting a mock draft, looks like the autopick makes some ridiculous bids. If we go on my past performances, an autopick can't do much worse though.

Phil on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 1:13 PM

I switched it back to a standard draft to ease the cluster fuck that could happen.

joe on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 1:13 PM

what kind of draft was it?

Phil on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 1:17 PM

it was an auction draft.

I went ahead and presorted my players in case I don't make the draft. By presort I mean I took all the kickers, tight ends and defenses and told yahoo to better not fucking draft any of them. One of the big issues with their draft strategy seems to make sure you have three fucking kickers and shit. Fuck that.

My right arm actually went numb from the freezing water / mersa from handing out sponges. Brent and I took over the final water booth and provided inspiration to those towards the end. I feel we definitely got a few people to the finish that wouldn't have made it without our valiant efforts.

5) Dallas Clark
6) Some QB
7) Danny Amendola

We decided to go walk to the bars get a drink and turn around and go home last night. So apparently drakes has a dress code and a velvet rope. They make people wait behind the velvet rope to go in and sadly people do. We openly mocked the people and the dress code and kept walking.

Phil on Sunday, September 04, 2011 at 11:02 AM

So far this weekend one night I went out for a "guys night". The other night I was invited to crash girls night with my sister and a bunch of her friends.

One night involved going to 4 restaurants (one twice) because everyone was bickering over what to eat, and we finally settled on a lovely chocolaterie / cafe. After dinner we went to the gallery hop and mingled at Garage because that's where the fancy people were.

The other night we went to spring st, I got some sliders. Then we ordered a bunch of pitchers and played drinking games and got hammered.

Which night was which?

When is the ESPN draft then?

douglas on Tuesday, September 06, 2011 at 9:47 AM

the end result for maryland will be the same as oregon though, if you're a lower tier BCS team you have to do something to get noticed and bring in recruits. maryland can't build on tradition so they have to market themselves. even if the unis are ugly, people are talking about them, which i suspect is the only result that matters.

joe on Tuesday, September 06, 2011 at 10:51 AM

so I was cleaning up my basement some and I forgot the jager machine is still down there. I'm thinking we have taken the new years tradition as far as it will go with everyone popping out babies. Do we have a new holiday to rock the Jager machine or should it go back to its home with Wes?

Baseball: St. Louis Cards, SF Giants, Texas Rangers

i can't make any guarantees for new years plans anyway, i got two kids growing so sarah probably won't be able to walk right at that point. i do get more excited blowing stuff up than i do getting drunk now, and i, too, support a bouncy house. the only thing that could make it better is if we put a basketball goal in there and play bouncy house basketball

joe on Thursday, September 08, 2011 at 1:50 PM

We bring over Joe's fire pit and get it going in the backyard. Empty out her garage, and get a fridge in there and some space heaters. She has friends popping out babies so it'd be a kid friendly event in the basement, but the adults can act like children outside

douglas on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 8:17 AM

And also never had a Mac, any advantage over a pc?

Phil on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 12:31 PM

Pretty much any laptop you buy will be good shit. I'd make sure the screen looks good and you can type on it ok more than anything. For example, this is better than my current work PC:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+...p;cp=1&lp=1

If you got $500 total to spend, I'd buy that laptop. Then I'd buy this hard drive.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...AT3ASE961SGQPPQ.

Swap the SSD and the slow shitty hard drive. Install windows on it which should be pretty easy. Then take existing laptop hard drive and use it for storing all your music, movies and porn in an external hard drive enclosure http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NexSta...6830&sr=1-2

What's good about doing that is if you fuck shit up all your files are on an external hard drive, so you can just wipe the laptop clean and start over.

The SSD is key. Put the operating system and all your programs on it. That thing will fly, and run quietly and cool.

Brent on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 1:00 PM

One thing about that laptop is it doesn't come with an hdmi output. The next laptop I buy will def have that so I can connect it with the tv. That way you can watch streaming movies, play music from iTunes, etc. from your tv. I'm in the air right now with free Internet which makes me think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1C...be_gdata_player

For the record, that $350 one I posted we can get through our Dell employees benefit program for $569. Pretty good deal from Best Buy - just don't buy their warranties.

Neither UofL or UC play Notre Dame, so if Pitt wins, then there is a better win potential for the Big East teams. You know the rest of the Big East is going to show no mercy when playing Pitt and Syracuse.

That was why Cincy poured on the points against NC State. The ACC can go to hell.

Wrecking Crew on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 1:24 PM

FUck big east win potential. It's a dead conference anyway. Hopefully, conference realignment doesn't fuck up basketball too much. So what's going to happen, expanded SEC, ACC, PAC-?, and Big 10, with some combination of Big East and Big 12?

joe on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 1:24 PM

Rumors as of right now:

Big 12 wants to immediately go to 10 schools. Texas actually doesn't want more. Oklahoma wants to go to 12. Texas schools don't want any more Texas schools so TCU is out. BYU was a got topic but that's gone now too. I think it came down to scheduling and travel issues with B

The BIG rumor is that Louisville might even have an offer on the table right this very moment. Apparently TJ flew from Colorado down to Texas last night for a meeting. The other rumor out of WVU is that Louisville and WVU are a package deal to expand out to the east. But everything seems to point to Louisville being the #10 if they go to ten. They may expand to 10 soon, and then to 12 in the spring. There are also rumblings that the SEC and the Big 12 don't want WVU because of their fanbase.

The side rumor to this is there are rumblings that Louisville might have a better option than the Big 12. Some have heard that the SEC feels whatever gentleman's agreement to keep schools in the same state from joining isn't as important as keeping the LHN out of the SEC.

The top 4 teams to the Big 12 right now are Louisville, WVU, BYU and TCU in that order I think. Cinci's best bet is that the Big 12 decides to go to 14 and not 12.

Brock on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 2:03 PM

Win potential matters for teams with a legit shot at good bowls THIS year. The conference doesn't dissolve this very second.

Phil on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 2:22 PM

Big East will replace Louisville, WVU, Pitt, Syracuse, & TCU with ECU, UCF, Temple, & either Navy or USM

Temple really helping their cause to the Big East right now

Brock on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 11:14 AM

What is boggling me is the fact that the media is blaming the conferences for being greedy with TV contracts on the brain, but no one is stating the obvious fact that the BCS system is single-handedly ruining all college athletics, not just football. Yes, I understand that conferences and TV contracts are behind the BCS, but its the system driving the superconferences. If there were a playoff system with auto bids (i.e. NCAA tourney), then schools would drive for more conferences with less teams so more had a shot. I am calling for the masterminds behind the conception of the BCS to be drug out into the streets and shot. Too bad this congressional push spearheaded by Orin Hatch has as much authority as a high school hall monitor.
