Not That There is Anything Wrong with That

Work is having a contest to put together a new cover for our "learning guide."  Well, the one that we have right now is a bit, uh, fruity.  So, we decided that it would be pretty funny to create our own off the wall learning catalog aimed towards "alternative relationships."  This, as most terrible ideas do, caused us to fire up Word and look for clipart.  There are like 90 seperate clip art items if you search for "gay."  And not one of them feature Marc and Adrian eating lunch together at Lynn's Paradise Cafe.  They even have transgender clipart.  You know, for Transgender Newsletters I guess.

Anyways, as stupid as this post is, I think we can all agree that it is still less stupid than a pissing fight over Michael Moore.  Desperate times call for a desperate post.

I guess I will be the first to comment on this gay ass post. (should I hyphenate gay ass?) Is a 19 yr old too young for me? I would like to know.
Also-My song is not progressing. I suck.

Church on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 11:51 AM

19 is fine for you Jay, go for it

Brock on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 12:00 PM

Give her one for me, Crazed Buffalo!

Phil on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 12:39 PM

Don't just stand there, bust a move.

Rumage on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 12:40 PM

Go for it Jay!

Phil on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 12:59 PM

Now, of course there is the standard divide by two plus seven rule.

Given that Jay is 25, dividing by two gives us 12.5. Plus seven makes it exactly 19.5. Bankers rounding says to round to the nearest even number meaning that the minimum age for Jay to date would be 20. Luckily, Jay is not a banker, therefor does not follow banker's rounding. So we'd round down to 19 to give jay an all system go.

Bigworm on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 1:01 PM

First of all, who said "her" this is a gay-ass post so this could be a guy we are talking about.

Green Baron on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 1:36 PM

14 is never too young....
Oh wait....19? Yah, 19 is too old.

Tom Jones on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 1:51 PM

Banking and accounting would round up at either .5 or .51 depending. Jay, go for it, what's the worst thing that can happen besides a sexual assault charge and a bad case of her scraping you with her teeth.

Green Baron on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 2:01 PM

or braces....

Phil on Monday, June 28, 2004 at 2:02 PM

No, banking rounding rounds to the nearest even number. So 2.5 round to 2, and 3.5 rounds to 4. Because theoretically there will be as many even numbers ending in .5 as there would be odd numbers ending .5, you would end up with a much closer approximation of the true average of all the numbers than you would by simply rounding up.

Banks might just round up and so may accountants, but "bankers rounding" is generally known to be one of the better ways to produce a more accurate sum of numbers (therefore, better averages). Do a search on google, it's a very common term. In computers at least.

Dween on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 4:10 AM

If "Banker's Rounding" rounds to the nearest even number, what does an exact odd number round to? Does 3 become 2 or 4?

Joanna on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 5:43 AM

Is there really a "Half-my-age-plus-seven rule"? I guy at work says that all the time. I thought it was just him....

Phil on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 5:50 AM

Oh, it's a standard rule. It's in bible on page 545.

adrian on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 5:53 AM

Hey jay, the cool thing is that you can always take her to Chuck E Cheeses or Skate World on a date.

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 7:03 AM

Fucking A Jay! I agree 100% with you. For the record, Joanna labeled me as an asshole many years ago.

Joanna - the "half your age plus seven rule" is definately a rule, though I will never follow it. I prefer the quote from Dazed and Confused "I get older and they stay the same age", which I make into my own rule that says "girls 18+ are fair game". This guy knows what I am talking about.

On a side note: When did an anorexic Olsen twin really become news, pretty pissed at Fox News and CNN even mentioned it too.

Philco, how much database space does nattysci have?

Phil on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 12:06 PM

150mb including transaction logs. But those rarely grow to more than 1mb before they get truncated by the backup jobs.

Right now it's consuming a little less than 3mb of space. So by my estimates we are about 200,000 posts from running out of space.

All I have to say is- Spider Man 2 kicks ass. Marc, Kellie and I saw a midnight show last night (as I push my glasses up my nose) I will definitely see it again. I highly reccomend it.

adrian on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 10:22 AM

Spiderman was ok, and your telling me spiderman 2 kicks ass. If this is true, it would be a rare instance when a sequel surpasses the first movie.

KellyHarrison on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 10:30 AM

jay is right, spiderman 2 kicks ass. i personally think it's better than the first one.

Any plans for the 4th?? Since Burket is gone, the traditional "Blow the Crap Outta St. Matthews" will have to end.

Since I was presented with the wonderful gift of Gmail, I recently recieved an invite that I am making available to any member of Natty Sci that would like this awesome email system.

I love how Wet Willy's put its "entrance" in the back of the building in order to be 700ft away. This could get ridiculous with bars opening tunnels that run down the alleys in order to meet the 700ft requirement.

Ok Daddy Warbucks Goodloe, are you going to supply the stacks of ones every weekend?

adrian on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 7:25 AM

Sorry, can't supply everyone with ones but I think we should try somewhere else this weekend rather than the usual baxter walk.

Mindy on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 10:35 AM

OH MY GOD
They released the names of the two people killed in the I-64 crash yesterday morning:
Andrew Barnes and Casandra Woodcock.....as in Cassie.

Green Baron on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 10:56 AM

Does that make the count 2 or 3? As in death only comes in three's, and Kelly's friend died.
Of course, I don't know any of these people.

Green Baron on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 10:58 AM

I also had a question as to why the posting time is 3 hours behind? Is this site hosted in Pacific Time or something?

Phil on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 11:33 AM

It's hosted in on the west coast, and I haven't bothered to fix that. For those that don't recognize the name, Cassie was Mindy's roommate before Rachel.

Green Baron on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 12:12 PM

Sorry to hear about your roommate Mindy

Plow King on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 12:38 PM

I'd highly recommend 4th Street Live (they seriously need to come up with a better name than that). Red Star Tavern has like 30 beers on tap (though their food sucks). Parrot Beach is a pretty cool place to hang out. Then there's TGI Friday's, which you can start out at while you're still sober enough to care about cheap beer. The Hard Rock has a pretty cool bar, too. If that wasn't enough, today they announced that a Maker's Mark lounge will be opened there as well.

I think the Cathedral will be hosting nightly AA meetings.

Phil on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 12:41 PM

I hear that Beef O' Brady's on Frankfort is HIGHLY remmended. I told it's old school flannagans before it got to popular to get a table on the weekends

Jay on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 12:46 PM

Where the hell do I begin? People dying? That sucks. I never know what to say. So instead, I will put an indefinite moratorium on being an asshole.

Brock on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 12:46 PM

Beef O'Brady's is just a chain like BW3. So if you like BW3's, you'll like Beef O'Brady's.

If we go down to 4th street, should I drive the Bulletproof Blazer for old times' sake of making trips to the ghetto of Louisville.
This is with the stipulation that the tired don't disintegrate from their age and dry-rot, the police don't mind the old version of the expired KY license plate, and no A/C.

Raul Duke on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 12:56 PM

Beef O'Brady's is indeed a chain, but the food is far better than BW3's. One major drawback through: they bill it as a family place so if you go, be prepared for the presence of floor urchins.

If you guys want to try something totally different, I would strongly recommend the Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot and Patrick's right next door. The Depot offers mini-golf and ping pong free outdoors and some decent foos and pool inside. While they are beer only, pitchers of regular (Millerweiser's) are about $5 with high ends (Pilsner Urquell) around $7 or $8.

If you need shots, Patrick's next door accomodates. Their mixed drinks are typically on the strong side. They also have a good porch out back.

Green Baron on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 1:15 PM

Sorry

Brock on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 1:15 PM

Raul, you should become their marketing specialist... nice pitch.

I've been looking into this 4th Street Live thing, and its pretty impressive. I didn't think Louisville had the drive to get something that nice right in the middle of downtown, and from what I read, it looks like they are beating off tenants with a stick.

Tom Jones on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 1:19 PM

Thoroughbred Lounge-yikes!! I would stay on Market if you are going for Strip Clubs

Marc on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 1:21 PM

I just went to Forth Street Live for the first time last night. The crew I was with ate at Parrot Beach/Red Cheetah. I do not recommend this place at all. Jay remember at Max and Erma's the "its not much food"? take that and divide by two and charge $7-$8 for it. $5 beers, bottles. they don't have anything on tap. And the food is weird. I didn't try the mango quesadillas or the wings, which is good. Overpriced, thimble-sized portions, and the food is disturbing to look at.

I like beef o brady's, i agree it maybe a more family-like bw3's but the food is really good.

Bigworm on Thursday, July 01, 2004 at 1:24 PM

I have been to Thoroughbred before (yes i just admitted to it). We all know my thoughts about school girl fantasy/outfits. All I have to say is the school girl i saw there was the most unattractive one ever (Jay, Chris, Joe can you back me up there?).

Yeah 4th street live looks good to me though if people are interested in going.

Wednesday - Realize you have a hangover and drink some more

Phil, sounds like a good company with a solid business plan, not too mention some smart technology usage. Just remember, don't ask if they have a beer machine... you can buy that after you get hired.

So who is in for the plan... I probably will be in town Saturday afternoon. Thus, the drinking and movie thing could occur simultaneously in Louisville and Cincy tonight. I need to remember my Shawn Kemp Sonics jersey to wear at 4th St.

Phil on Friday, July 02, 2004 at 9:13 AM

Interview went pretty good. They job sounds great. Everyone is motivated and working on cool stuff and fixing problems. Lots of work, but nothing boring at all. The more they talked about the job, the more I got excited.

So, I guess I'm on their list of four people they've narrowed it down to. After a background check, and another interview or two we'll see how things go.

Dween on Friday, July 02, 2004 at 9:45 AM

Background check?

Better hope they don't find this website.

Or your stash of horse porn.

Raul Duke on Friday, July 02, 2004 at 9:47 AM

It does sound like a company who is going about their business wisely. Moving servers into the care of Xodiax (who is definately a best of breed in the region, if not nationally) is one of the best things a group like them can do. Only concern: They are in a commodity market, but carving a niche using their expertise in Microsoft's applications to support their client base is a big advantage.

Good luck!

Phil on Friday, July 02, 2004 at 9:59 AM

Yeah, the niche things is kinda cool for me because that's what I've been doing. I talked to one of their founders who themselves said they were taking a big risk by going for such a niche market. But they've been in the black for quite some time, with steadily increasing profits (or as he said "mind numbingly boring growth charts).

Hmmmm, I'm sure they'll find this site. Perhaps I should remove the "calling each gay part" from the header...
