New post

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:18 PM

if you didn't know, that is a very, very rough sketch.

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:19 PM

All I see is a red x

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:21 PM

try again...if you were using the nattysci.maximumaspbeta.com it probably wasn't there yet

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:22 PM

I was using that link

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:22 PM

awesome

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:23 PM

what do you think about adding the corner of the white castle to the far right or the skyline?

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:24 PM

Whitey's is key. Brilliant. Any other St. Matthew's landmarks?

Marc on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:25 PM

We'll do the Whitey's add next year when we get corporate sponsorship (from whitey's). which might lead to the return of the whitey's which cause st. matthews to rejoice.

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:25 PM

When I run for mayor

douglas on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:26 PM

the whitey's would be cool, the only other major st. matthews landmark i could think of would be the little league, but i don't know of any way to incorporate that.

on another note, i don't usually post porn, but i can't help it, this really might be the most absolute perfect specimen of the female form ever known to walk the face of the earth. it's not hardcore or anything, just a naked chick, but still, NSFW:

Marc on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:26 PM

trinity, the mall, gerstles are landmarks right?

douglas on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:27 PM

can't use trinity, we're not all catholic school fags, and we can't use the mall cuz that's kinda like selling out

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:27 PM

where does St. Matthews end and crescent hill begin?

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:29 PM

10 pin bowling alley and beer depot?

douglas on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:32 PM

beer depot's in crescent hill isn't it? i always thought st. matthews ended at frankfort ave., but i don't know

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:33 PM

that is why I was asking

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:34 PM

"Fun is Bowling"

douglas on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:37 PM

all u trinity people, do u know a teacher by the name of Anthony Lococo? I just got a refi application for him

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:42 PM

Mr. Lococo is an English teacher that did the newspaper or yearbook

Bigworm on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:58 PM

I'd go for more of a mushroom cloud (yes I know it is a rough sketch) and change it from "blow" to "Blowin'"

douglas on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:59 PM

just got off the phone with his wife, i think i picked up his loan, saving him about $400/month or so. his wife's real nice

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:00 PM

Blowin' up St. Matthews and have St. Matthews images being snorted up through a straw

Bigworm on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:08 PM

Regardless, let's get a design to Chris quickly so he can take care of business.

Colors anyone?

douglas on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:08 PM

from what i'm gathering from dicking around at work, st. matthews limits is enclosed by brownsboro rd., watterson expwy., breckenridge ln., chenoweth ln., lexington rd., and cannons ln., basically everything in between those roads, so i don't think any frankfort ave. bars can be included in st. matthews cuz it end where shelbyville becomes frankfort.

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:14 PM

Wednesday is probably the latest we can have Chris go get it done.

Bigworm on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:15 PM

Tunisia is up 1-0 on Spain.

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:16 PM

random colors (black, green, red, blue, orange, yellow) with white print or black print?

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:17 PM

Oregon State is up 4-1 on Georgia

Bigworm on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:17 PM

Yeah I agree.

I say we use the St. Matthew's Skyline with the mushroom cloud for the front.

On the back, go with Nattysci.com on the neck area..

stew on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:41 PM

Damn, what happened Spain??? Losing to Tunisia...i for one, did not see that coming. I guess that's why they play the game.

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:48 PM

beer depot is outside of st. matthews, plus it doesn't exactly have a distinct outline or anything. I think the vogue + white casle are the only distinct outlines in st. matthews. The only other landmark in st. matthews would be the old bacons building, but that isn't too distinct.

any color would be fine. I'd be partial towards a navy blue or forest green with white used for the screening.

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 3:52 PM

So are we getting Jay to try and get Lynnie to do a scetch?

Bigworm on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:31 PM

Philco - funny thing is those are the same colors I had typed earlier but deleted it because I didn't want to influence others.

Navy Blue or Forest Green with White Letters.

Marc on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:32 PM

what about grey and blue or grey and green?

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:37 PM

I also like asphalt colors
http://www.americanapparel.net/stor...001_Asphalt.jpg

And marc's colors are good too.

joe on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:44 PM

Where do we stand on shirts:

Lynnie sketch
we like navy blue, gray and forest green (any other colors)
how many shirts?

Bigworm on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:48 PM

Gray and blue works.

Bigworm on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:48 PM

I want a shirt...XL in size please.

Brock on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:51 PM

Its the fucking Fourth of July. Red. White. Blue. Not too difficult to choose colors.

Bigworm on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:56 PM

Okay so Navy and Gray or Green and Grey it is.

Thanks for being the deciding factor Brock.

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 4:58 PM

Mickey Mantle autographed ball, only $8,999 but I feel it is well worth it:
http://www.historyforsale.com/html/...cumentid=251453

Brock on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 5:02 PM

No problem.

The cartoon of St. Matthews looks cool anyway. Its supposed to be over-the-top and parody anyway... hence the mushroom cloud.

Trying to get all stylish with Forest green and Navy blue just sells out to the A&F stereotype. And we know how Douglas feels about selling out.

Brock on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 5:04 PM

For the record, Cedar Point kicks ass! They have a similar ride as the one Adrian just posted.... too bad I couldn't ride it since it was broken down, but they have 8 other giant roller coasters that are comparable if not better than Kings Island.

Only drawback is standing in line when its 95 degrees, but counting mullets is a great time-killer.

douglas on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 5:24 PM

the selling out was a joke more than anything, personally for colors i like grey and baby blue, so i can go around drunk throwing up gang signs

Brent on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 5:35 PM

BW3's is a pretty big landmark in St. Matthews.

Brock on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 5:35 PM

Wes, you've managed to re-post something twice in a day (which isn't unusual).... except you called out someone else on it.

We saw the psycho helicopter guy a couple of days ago.

Marc on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 5:37 PM

shit, what about BBC? or dutchs. could incorporate old (white'ys and vogue) with new (brendans, included). or could do that next year, with sponsorship. lol

Marc on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 5:39 PM

anybody have a video of that commerical we saw for a local junk yard (strip joint as they called it. that would be a good video for fark, phil. cause i know you like to get submitted to fark.

Brock on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 5:46 PM

Isn't Seneca Park in St. Matthews? You could have a silhouette of some people in the middle of a field and a bunch of police cars surrounding them.

stew on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 9:18 PM

My platoon is going to Ozzfest to assist with security! The only band I actually kinda like thats playing is disturbed, but hey, i'll still get to see some good fights and hopefully alot of titties! I also might be able to get to some Dodgers or Padres games. Stuff like that almost makes up for the unbearable heat and shitty working parties we put up with here.

stew on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 9:22 PM

Here's a little bit about where I am right now, if anyone cares. Brent might be familiar with it.
http://www.29palms.usmc.mil/visit/l...rea/29palms.asp

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 9:50 PM

fun facts about 29palms from wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine...wentynine_Palms):
For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 596.3 males.

Let's compare with Louisville:
For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.60 males.

What does this mean? Despite statistics in our favor, I'm still fucked.

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 9:53 PM

btw Jay, the fairy from the Dodge Caliber commercial is played by 15 year old Meghan Po, an aspiring actress.

Phil on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 10:16 PM

also, as a follow up to Joe's video...it is Portugal vs Mexico for the battle of the greatest nation in the world!

Yesterday I was watching TV and I looked out the window and saw a cop car driving down the street. Then it turned into my driveway. I immediately try to figure out what I possibly did. Is it bad that I have that guilty of a conscious? It turns out it backed out and left my street. Stupid dead end street making me panic. So, the cops are patrolling my street for some reason.

douglas on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 10:12 AM

what's starbucks ever done to you, wes?

joe on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 10:14 AM

Douglas, I know at least you will appreciate this. Word on the street at St. Matthew’s Little League, where I umpire, is that they are banned from participating in postseason tournaments for 11 and 12 year olds. They are under investigation by the International Little League Board for fixing the preseason draft to stack an all-star team. The whole concept of the two leagues they tried to bypass and load up one team. Nothing is better then cheating in Little League. Danny Almonte ain’t got nothing on my league.

douglas on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 10:20 AM

that is great, i think it's bullshit they have two all-star teams, cuz if we had just one we'd have a little league world series ring

douglas on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 10:20 AM

seriously, what's the point of two all-star teams?

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 10:25 AM

Douglas are you fucking kidding me...those bastards are trying to take over the world because I do. That is what they are doing to me. Am I the only one who sees this? Those fuckers are hippies turned corporate and are planning world domination.

Phil on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 11:34 AM

I'm just pulling for a big England win over sweden and a T&T win today.

I'm kinda dissapointed that Argentina and the Netherlands have both clinched moving on because that would have been a great game tomorrow. I'd bust out my van Nistelrooy jersey or something.

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 11:38 AM

Ready for the stocks to tumble further.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiap...reut/index.html

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 11:39 AM

The Netherlands are a great team and that should be an awesome game.

However, if you watch the Czech Republic and Italy game that should be pretty well played.

Phil on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 11:55 AM

The Netherlands are probably going to be resting up to 6 players against argentina (mostly to prevent more cards and injuries), so the game will likely suck. I wouldn't be surprised if Argentina rests a bunch of people too.

Although theoretically the winner of that group could avoid Brazil, England and probably Germany and Spain if games fall in the right order this week. But that would take a lot of ifs and with both teams already with a few yellows, it might not be worth it.

joe on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 11:59 AM

new sports guy
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page...=simmons/060620

Phil on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 1:48 PM

i thought this was interesting (from the sports guy):
After watching Shaq miss more free throws, I can't help but ask: Is there another situation in sports where a seventh-grade girl can be more proficient in a key part of the sport than one of the most dominant professional players of all time? I can't make the question any more basic. There are literally hundreds of 12-year-old girls who can shoot free throws better than him. That fact alone must beg the even deeper question: Can NBA basketball really be a sport, given the above-mentioned situation?

Phil on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 1:57 PM

hey wes, rumor has it that the 360 price will drop at christmas:
http://www.news4gamers.com/xbox360/News-2492.aspx

Maybe you can talk abby into an appropriate adjustment on the weight loss deal. I say if they drop the price by 25% then your goal weight should be increased by 25%. 25% of 200 would be 50, so as long as you are below 250 I see no reason that shouldn't work.

Do this up in excel with a chart. You have to speak accounting to her.

Phil on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 1:58 PM

oh, and don't forget wes and adrian, we have a $50 gift certificate up at wicks tonight.

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 2:12 PM

Jay on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 2:46 PM

Adrian, I went to Game stop the other day, and I saw a display for that new FFVII game you were talking about. Apparently, it revolves around Vincent Valentine.

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 3:26 PM

Jay - So I ran into Dave Allgeir today while at lunch.

He is doing well, and wasn't nearly as creepy as he was last time. He told me that Ford is looking at maybe closing 12 plants (not sure if that is in addition to what is already been announced or total) in order to streamline production. Ford does have a pretty good buyout going though.

1) $100K cash to walk away
2) 4 years of college paid for (up to $15K a year for tuition and maintain a C average), benefits for the duration of the 4 years and half of your base salary paid out annually.

Option #2 looks pretty good IMO.

adrian on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 3:32 PM

I was watching the college world series last night and Oregon State was playing. I put two and two together and came up with something awesome. Georgia made it to the World Series by beating South Carolina in the Super Regional. Georgia played Oregon State on Monday. We were that close to a South Carolina vs. Oregon State matchup. I would have loved for the Cocks to matchup with the Beavers. Broadcasters dream game.

joe on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 9:19 AM

Just like Phil's dream game of UL vs Florida State. Have the defensive back Gay lined up across from wide receiver Fagg.

Phil on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 9:20 AM

Ah, my dream of gay on fagg action probably will never come true.

Sigh.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 9:20 AM

Ok we all know that I love having Tubby around at UK, however, I did get a kick out of this on the UK Rivals board today. This guy is talking about the problem with UK basketball and what makes him so damn mad when he thinks about the direction of the program.

"That is what is so maddening... Tubby arrogantly acts like nothing is wrong. And takes ZERO responsibility upon himself. He's like Teflon Tubby with the Laser Eyes of Doom."

I spit water all over my monitor when I heard "He's like Teflon Tubby with the Laser Eyes of Doom."

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 9:23 AM

Joe - Didn't Sowers play for Ballard? And I am guessing where he went right and you went wrong is he had talent (insert evil laugh here).

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 9:24 AM

Teflon Tubby with the Lazer eyes of doom is an excellent trivia name for the record.

joe on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 9:28 AM

He is a Ballard boy. I actually started over him at the age of 13. Then shit hit the fan.

douglas on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 10:06 AM

Sowers' step-father, Dr. Rob Campbell, is a noted cardiologist. His dedication and regular attendance at Jeremy's Ballard High School and Vanderbilt University baseball games was well documented within the scouting community throughout Sowers' prep career. Many a scout can recall Dr. Campbell clocking the speed of Sowers' pitches with an expensive Stalker radar gun, that some described as being "juiced." In addition, Dr. Campbell's propensity to "name drop," (i.e. continually name players that Jeremy played with throughout his prep and college career) was something that was known to repeatedly irritate scouts.

You have no idea how true this last paragraph from the Wiki entry is, his stepdad used to drive his Dodge Viper to the games and rev the engine in the parking lot so everyone could see and hear that he'd arrived. He was a fucking prick and only talked about money and shit. He was the one who told him not to sign with Cincinnati when he was first drafted out of high school b/c they weren't paying him enough

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 10:09 AM

Yeah, well I think his college experience did help him. Being re-drafted in the first round at #6 isn't too shabby is it?

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 10:10 AM

Soccer is a lot of running, which is why you don't see any fat soccer players or refs at the elite level.

Man, I don't think they should get rid of the penny either. it may be worthless in most cases because you can't buy anything with simply a penny. but then prices would be rounded up, which over time could added up.

However, I fear that if the penny stays that this jackass will claim it was in part due to his efforts.

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen gets press for calling a columnist a fag. He then defends himself saying that he did not mean it as a knock on his sexuality, just that the reporter was not man enough to confront him face to face. He FURTHER defends himself with the old, "I have gay friends" thing, but he has a better slant on it:

Guillen also told Couch that he has gay friends, attends WNBA games, went to a Madonna concert and plans to go to the Gay Games in Chicago.

The Dubai indoor ski resort was on that extreme engineering show on Discovery HD. They spent 55 minutes showing how they were building sky lifts and setting up cables, and then in the last minute they just announce "and finally the sky resort was finished and open to skiers." And the fuckers never showed anyone sking down the damn thing. It was hearing all of a song but the last note. Drove me crazy.

I do like the Extreme Engineering show, but they seem to be a little too eager to push videos out before projects actually complete.

Cross-Country Champ Wishes He Were Good At Sports

March 2, 2006 | Onion Sports

WOODSIDE, CA—Cross-country runner Ryan Hall, who won the USA Track & Field open men's 12-km championship race last week, later said that his life would be so much different if only he were good at sports. "Man, what I wouldn't give to have the God-given ability to throw a baseball, run with the football, sink a 10-foot putt, or even catch a big ol' bass," said Hall, attempting to catch his breath after running seven and a half miles in just under 35 minutes. "Things would be easier, that's for sure—I'd have a fun and glamorous job, make tons of money, and I wouldn't have to stay in such goddamn good shape." Hall said that, for now, he will stick with his current career in the hopes that he may get noticed and signed by a U.S. men's soccer team.

Do they broadcast the world cup on the internet? Do they have audio or a gamecast because I am curious how that would work.

Phil on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 9:37 AM

I've been using something called sopcast to watch the games online, but it's pretty complex and involves following the games in chinese.

Otherwise, the deadspin live blogging isn't too bad in addition to the espn gamecast.

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 9:49 AM

I have been using the espn gamecast. It gets bogged down pretty bad when the game starts because millions of people hit the damn server.

I am sure ESPN and ABC forked a lot of money out for rights to the world cup so that is probably why there are not any stream casts.

joe on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 9:50 AM

what does a soccer gamecast show?

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 9:55 AM

It is a browser windows that keeps getting refreshed automatically with up-to-date stats. It shows the time, shows on goal, fouls, corner kicks etc...Live commentary gets posted. Then there is a simulated soccer field that shows position.

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 9:55 AM

It is a nice system when the servers are not bogged down with millions of requests.

joe on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 10:00 AM

So they have live commentary, ok. I didn't know what there was to follow in soccer in stats and such.

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 10:07 AM

Man I love Harold Reynolds. He just said on ESPNradio, "Soccer never caught on in the US with the elite athletes."

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 12:29 PM

And who are our "Elite Athletes"? Didn't our Pro Baseball players get their ass handed to them just recently by some piece of shit countries. Also, haven't our NBA players been ram-rodded from other countries over the past several years. So i guess the only sport the US dominates in is American Football...which no other country plays (except canada)

joe on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 12:34 PM

Our elite athletes said screw this I'm not playing.

1) COllege Basketball
2) COllege Football
3) World Cup Soccer
4) Pro Football

5) All other sports suck

for what it's worth, if you look at the NBA draft one third of the draft picks will be european. It's no longer a case of "our best athletes don't play soccer" it's "oh god, some of their athletes are playing our sports"

that being said, I think I could play midfield for the US and kick a high seeking pass into no where over and over and over again.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 1:33 PM

All I know is Bruce Arena SHOULD NOT be the coach in 2010 of the US Men's National Team if we qualify. The should flog him publicly then fire his ass. The US team played defensive through the entire game. Demarcus Beasley had an awesome pass to Dempsy when he tied the game 1-1 and the entire game changed until the ref game a fucking free kick to Ghana when both were going for the ball. Oyewu (sp?) didn't touch his ass didn't shove him nothing and we got fucking hosed.

And why were we playing the goddamn 4-5-1 the entire game whenever a tie wouldn't win the game. Should have played more forwards to advance the ball.

To conclude, YOU FUCKING SUCK BRUCE ARENA AND YOU SHOULDN'T EVER COACH OUR NATIONAL TEAM AGAIN. YOU SCOUTED TEAMS LIKE SHIT AND YOU DID THE LEAST WITH THE BEST TEAM THE US HAS EVER FIELDED. WE DID MISS TWO SHOTS ON GOAL (MCBRIDES HEADER THAT HIT THE POST AND OYEWU'S HEADER THAT FLOATED UP. ALSO LANDON DONOVAN HAD A GREAT CHANCE TO TIE THE GAME IF HE MADE A GREAT PASS INSIDE ON THAT KICK THAT WAS JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX. FUCKING BULLSHIT I TELL YOU.

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 2:11 PM

Do you think the United States was overrated or did we just play like shit?

Bigworm on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 2:13 PM

Phil he had to bring in Ben Olsen because Reyna couldn't play any longer (twisted knee). Olsen is the only other guy on that team at that position.

JOhnson, should have started the 2nd half no doubt, keep in mcbride and start Convey also in the 2nd half. Landon is just too damn small for the big boys.

This article fast fowards 4 years into the future to take a look at the 2006 NBA Draft picks.

http://warriors.mostvaluablenetwork.com/

J.J. Redick
Alleged best case: Drazen Petrovic
Worst case: Trajan Langdon

What they’ll be saying four years from now:

Where are they now: J.J. Redick.

The former Blue Devil had set an ACC record for points during his four year college career, and after being drafted by the Houston Rockets in 2006, was unable to produce consistently. The Rockets hoped that Redick would act as insurance in case Tracy McGrady was unable to recover from the injuries he suffered in the 2005-6 season, but Redick couldn’t shoot and McGrady couldn’t play a game without clutching at his back. J.J. was a fantastic scorer in college, but that can be attributed to the fact he wasn’t facing the longer, quicker players in the NBA. Without the ability to score at a high level, he simply faded away. Redick, who now works at Home Depot, did not return a call.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 3:09 PM

Actually,
Beasely's pass was damn good, but that doesn't excuse him for lagging his ass all 3 games. The dude's a fucking waste of flesh, no hustle no bussle.
"Oh, but Mr. Green Baron, he was the only one doing anything..wah wah wah"
You want proof. Watch that pass again that scored the goal. Instead of following the pass, Beasely turns and runs away from the fucking goal! Had Dempsey ricocheted it off of Kingston, cause there is no way he was catching it, there was no one there to put it back in. Beasley got fucking lucky that Dempsey finished that shot off; otherwise the fans would be crucifying him. I hope he is not playing in 2010.
In addition, Bruce Arena is a waste of flesh. If this was Colombia, he's be a dead man. But the blame is on the association. They appointed Arena. Then Arena plays Kasey Keller because he's got the seniority. Bullshit. Kasey Keller was dumped by Tottenham because he was too fucking slow and old. They have Manchester United's goalie, Tim Howard, a man regarded as the best goalie in the world, sitting the fucking bench! Just so fucking Keller can get his shot that he already had in 2002. Fuck that shit man, Howard is old enough and good enough to be in that goal. Kasey Keller has already been knocked down because he's over the hill. His play was pathetic. Yet the US plays him. Bullshit. There's some serious overhauling to be done, and Bruce Arena is only the beginning.

Phil on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 3:16 PM

fun fact: Tim Howard has Tourrets. Other fun fact: Man U brought in VAN DE SAR to play keepr, and Tim Howard is going to be played for Everton FC or some shit like that.

But yeah, Beasley...almost useless the whole world cup. Not as useless as Donovan though.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 3:17 PM

To answer your question Adrian, it's both. We aren't #5 in the world; we have that ranking because we won CONACEF against such soccer giants as Canada.
However, we are good. We're better than good. Unfortunately, we don't play our best players. We still believe in putting in names people recognize before players who belong in the game. Beasley did not play well enough to be there. A lot of those guys on that team didn't belong there. Reyna is too old and over the hill. He should play, but 90 minutes? No.
It was horribly coached. In a 4-5-1 defensive posture for all 3 games in your group? Absolutely stupid. Making a pointless substitution with 10 minutes left in the game? Retarded. In a game you have to win, you put all your substitutions in before 70 minutes. If you have anybody on your team that can't run full out for 20 minutes than you are retarded. Nobody coming in at 80 minutes will make any difference in that game, unless we had Lionel Messi or Fernando Torres or Wayne Rooney; which we don't.
We were horribly coached, completely apathetic, and too giving to seniority. Other than that, we had good players.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 3:22 PM

Yeah, Tim had some misfortunes, but they claim he'll be their keeper in 2010; yah, he'll be 31 then. How quick in reaction time are guys over 30? Not very, usually. Let's ask Kasey Keller, that useless piece of shit.

Video highlights of the game, where you can see Kasey Keller out of position and Beasley pull up without following the shot.

You can also see Landon Donavan standing still with his arms on his hips on Ghana's penalty shot; in which the ball is still alive after a miss (even though it went in). Even though it didn't affect the game; I think it summed up the US attitude in 2 of their games; especially this one.

elite athletes don't equal elite teams, hence why basketball has been down in international competitions, b/c of a lack of chemistry, they only play together the month leading up to the competition, where these foreign teams play all year for the most part. that's why they're putting together the 2008 dream team now, so they have plenty of time to play together and gel as a team. as for baseball, A LOT of our best players weren't playing b/c they didn't want to fuck themselves for the real season, when they get paid. as for american football, i'd be willing to go out on a limb and say they are better athletes than soccer players any day of the week. when you got 300 lb. guys running 4.7 40's, that's athleticism.

Green Baron doesn't hate America. Green Baron is disappointed because he loves the US squad, and hates to see it squandered; like not working this boy like we should. Yah, he was from Ghana for the first 10 years of his life, but if he wants to play for the US, let him. Kick some of those other slackers off the team.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:14 PM

Yah Bruce, the US definitely could do without this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=XGFO-qiuC38

Phil on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:26 PM

dude, freddy adu weight 145lbs. He's a child.

Yeah, he's got some nice highlights from the MLS but lets keep in mind that half of those goals came on fields that take soccer so seriously that they still have the yard markers for football on them against teams whose star players aren't even making the cut for some of these squads.

Maybe in 2010, but right now playing Adu would be like fucking that fairy from the Dodge commercials. Sure she looks good and has some nice highlights, but you throw her in with the big boys at her age and she'd get broken in half - big jay style.

Church on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:34 PM

Adu needs to prove himself in Europe before he is even given a national team cap. He is too short to be a striker and too smal to be a midfielder. Recently, I read that he is talking to Man U and Real about going to Europe, this is where he should have been all along. Had he gone to Europe and come up through the junior ranks, he would be much better. His decison to cut his teeth in the MLS has hindered him. Also, he came out and said he has not ruled out playing for Ghana, bastard is trying to blackmail Arena into selecting him.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:37 PM

All I'm saying is Freddy Adu would have played better than fucking Demarcus Beasley. Just because he plays in Europe, which is why Bruce picked him, he gets his spot.
And he isn't that young.
Adu is 17
Lionel Messi turns 19 Saturday, and ways 147 lbs, and started for Argentina yesterday. Adu is a hell of a lot better than some of the guys we have playing for us. Plus, would it have made a fucking difference? Why not give the kid a shot. It's not like we fielded a better team. We're going home.

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:41 PM

Adu would have brought speed to the game but i don't think he would have drastically changed the way the US played. You could throw Rhonaldihno on the US and he would play like shit. We are cursed!

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:41 PM

I don't know the rules, but Adu has already played for the US team. Can you switch to another country after playing for one?

Phil on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:41 PM

Honestlly - I just wanted to make a "14 year old fairy from a dodge commercial being broken in half by big jay" joke.

I couldn't careless about Adu playing. I think he's overrated, but whatever.

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:43 PM

Fat Ronaldo just scored again...one goal shy of the World Cup record for total Cup goals.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:43 PM

Freddy Adu isn't big enough to play in World Cup, however, since we basically only rotated the same 14 people in and out...we should have had him play for US just to lock him in for the future.

I agree with Isaac...just disappointed we didn't do better..not hating America.

Philco - can we start firebrucearena.com?

Church on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:44 PM

Beasley is a gimp. The problem with firing Arena is who would take his place?

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:45 PM

Maybe the US can pursuade Riquelme and Ronaldo and Becham to come over here so we can lock in their children...that would be sweet!

Church on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:47 PM

Beckham has already said he will finish his career in the US

Phil on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:47 PM

firebrucearena.com was taken 14-jun-2006.

The rule - I believe - is that you can play for a team at the junior level (which Adu has for the us) and then switch to a different country before the age of 21 as long as you haven't played a game at the senior level. I don't think Adu has actually played a game yet at the senior level. I know he was named to the squad, but I'm not sure if he's played or not.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:48 PM

After watching Riquelme play against the Netherlands, his kids can suck dick for a living for all I care.
I believe the rest of the Argentinian team had a passing efficiency at 90%, his had to have been 2%, 98% to the Dutch. Perhaps it was because all the starters were out. But he still looked like a 2-dicked Donkey to me.
I'll keep an eye on him against Mexico; who should just withdraw if they know what's good for them.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:50 PM

From wikipedia:
Adu was invited to his first US senior squad by Bruce Arena in January 2006. On January 22nd, 2006, Adu became the youngest player to compete for the United States Men's National Team when he replaced an injured Eddie Johnson in the 81st minute of a friendly game against Canada. The game ended in a scoreless draw, with Adu earning a yellow card for diving in the 85th minute

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddy_Adu

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:50 PM

Riquelme is the steve nash of soccer...he gets the ball to the lead scorers. The only better passer in the game today is probably Beckham

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:51 PM

Ronaldo says he's coming to the US too, once he feels he is old and fat in Europe.

Fuck Ronaldo. Fuck him in his ass....fuck him gently with a chainsaw.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:54 PM

Supposedly Riquelme is pretty good, but I only paid attention to him against the Dutch; and he was the turd on that field. Out of 18 corners or whatever, not one touched an Argentinian after Riquelme kicked it. And he was always the last one to touch the ball when Argentina was driving.
Of course, they weren't trying and missing key players, and playing with their legs tied together and blinders on.

adrian on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 4:56 PM

Well, there is always 2010 for the US to suck it up again

Green Baron on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 5:03 PM

Theo Walcott is 17, and is on England's national team, and will likely play now that Owen is being turned into glue.

We should be playing Adu a hell of a lot more. Yah, he might not be that great, but giving him time on the field will only make him better.

What we really need to do is get some hookers to get knocked up by Maradona and come back here to pop them out. That's what we need.

Phil on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 5:06 PM

We have this thing at work where we take our boss' nameplate and print out new ones and put them up on his cube with semiappropriate sayings. His last day is in a week. Would it be inappropriate to put "he may be leaving but the burning sensation won't" on his name plate?

Bigworm on Friday, June 23, 2006 at 10:30 AM

And by mix CD it's the Dan Band.

Yeah... Chessboxing... we'll put that on the cover, but what are the odds the US loses?"

Oh who cares... I'll be so hammered, I won't feel it anyway.

adrian on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 12:21 PM

Sweeden are a bunch of fucktards...how do you miss a penalty kick that bad?

Phil on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 12:57 PM

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Eric Wynalda isn't a fan of Bruce Arenas. I really think Wynalda would take a swing at Arenas if he was in the studio.

Bigworm on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 9:07 AM

Yeah, Eric Wynalda has been on Arena for basically doing nothing with a very good team...and i don't blame the guy either.

So Argentina and Mexico was a pretty awesome game and that goal Argentina scored in OT was pretty awesome at that. Sweden simply blew it...they came out like shit and payed for it being down 2 goals in the first few minutes of the game. That jackass missed the penalty kick, very badly, and some jabronie was tossed out with a red card after an exchange with the ref.....good times.

Jay on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 10:42 AM

Happy Birthday Brent.

Green Baron on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 11:52 AM

Yah, I don't know what happened with Argentina. They're better than that. Maybe they just wanted to make Mexico think they had a chance; perhaps they were cocky.
Taking out Crespo and Saviola and replacing them with 2 highly talented but untested youngsters was a real mystery to me when they weren't winning.
I was watching it on Univision with a Paraguayan (Chilavert) and Mexican comentator, and they acted like Argentina was cruising and knowing exactly what they were doing. But then Adam Sandler (Maxi Rodriguez) made that kick ass goal. It was a weird showing and I don't know whether I should be scared for Argentina yet against Ze Germans.
Unfortunately, I think the Argentinians have the only real shot at beating the Brazilians, barring a bad outting from the Brazilians. Someone might upset them, but I don't think anyone could truly beat that team besides the Albicelestes. Not even Ze Germans. Hopefully Argentina can get to the final to prove me right.

Green Baron on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 11:58 AM

And I Crespo is in the running for the Golden Shoe, which is unfortunate, since 2 of his goals weren't his. Against Mexico it was an own-goal header; and against Serbia it was an own goal when the serb tried to clear it.
Personally, I don't think he is that good. He has moments of greatness, but then long periods of crappiness.
Also, Requelme is completely overrated. Against Mexico I saw 1 nice pass (to Crespo, who missed a wide open shot). Other than that, whenever a stupid pass was made, my wife and I would look at each other and say, "Who was that?", knowing damn well it was Requelme. He is a fantastic ball-handler, for I rarely see him losing it; but he passes more to the opponents than to his teammates. And he's too fucking slow.
Even the commentators were yelling at him to move his ass.

Phil on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 3:22 PM

Bigworm on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4:38 PM

This game is way out of control. That Russian Ref has lost complete control of this game. He is just handed out cards left and right. We have been pretty close to a good old fashioned melee breaking out and if the Dutch tie this game that is how it should end.....BATTLE ROYAL!

Phil on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4:39 PM

we got a keeper down, a keeper down!

Phil on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4:51 PM

this game reminds me of the Breece Watson game vs Walden game in which the ref called the game over with the ball mid air to send it into overtime because it was so out of control.

That being said, I still want a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink jersey.

Phil on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4:53 PM

Brent on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4:58 PM

Phil on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 4:59 PM

even Reece Davis knew that van Nistelrooy should have played.

And it looks like England can keep playing like shit and advance with them getting portugual without Deco.

Phil on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 5:01 PM

yup, all those cards are carrying over. I think Portugual is coming in with 7 of them (with two guys being out because of the red cards)

Bigworm on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 6:41 PM

Makes me wonder why Van Nistelroy didn't play. I mean you have a guy on your team who averages a goal every 2 games....not so bad right there and he is the star of your team....so what did he do?

Marc on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 7:44 PM

Phil on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 7:52 PM

well, with van Nistelrooy also being benched for Man U. there is a probably a good chance that the guy has gotten too full of himself and has become absoultely unbareable to coaches and his teammates.

griffey did give sowers props after the game, apparently he was pitching no hit ball into the fourth inning, the first hit he gave up was griffey's bomb after he walked brandon phillips. so griffey and i have something in common, we both ruined no hit bids by sowers, of course mine was in high school and his was in the majors, but still, me and griffey are two of a kind

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:27 PM

UK fans - UK football received another commitment for 2006, however, it is similar to the Grinter situation, so he is grey shirting and won't be on campus till January 2007 (so he is out for a year). Preston Brown originally commited to Oklahoma State (3-star RB prospect out of 5 possible) and is rated higher than Moncell Allen (another 3-star running back in 2006) who also committed to UK. Brown is on the small side, but reminds me of that Barclay kid who played at Wake Forest.

Brown is 5'8" with 4.4 sec/40 yard speed and will complement our backfield nicely. Most of the work will be shared between Little and Dixon, however, depending on how the quarterback situation handles itself (and from what I am hearing Andre Woodson is being beat out by Curtis Pulley) we could see some Maryland I formations or wishbone sets and play some power football. Personally, I am hoping that Woodson gets his head on straight and will do much better when the receiving corps steps up, but if not, Curtis is a duel threat QB who could be exciting to watch.

Also, the offensive line is much improved, especially with Aaron Miller returning (was a first team all-sec freshman team 2 years ago and he left school last year but according to some hardcore fans, he has kept in-shape and will be manning down the LT position). All good news for UK.

$9-10 per shirt at Louisville Sporting goods. They said bring it in and we'll see.

joe on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:38 PM

A little cleaned up version of up top would be nice

Phil on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:39 PM

Try http://v033u39lvs.maximumasp.com/images/bush.pdf for a higher quality version of what's up top.

Marc on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:39 PM

yeah, one where the "G" looks like a G and not a "9". other than that i'm cool with it. Whether its getting t-shirts, giving us a place to meet, or getting in the trunk of a car.....the doctor always comes through.
Thanks Burkett.

Phil on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:40 PM

err, http://v033u39lvs.maximumasp.com/images/busm.pdf

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:43 PM

I agree..a cleaned up version of the top.

I need an XL and Abby needs a M and let's get a decently thick shirt..nothing really thin.

I say we go with either navy blue or forest green for the background shirt color.

Or we could do the following in the spirit of 4th of July.
Red Shirt
Blue skyline
White mushroom cloud

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:45 PM

We should also change the lettering to "Blowin' Up St. Matthews". If they have a better looking mushroom cloud with would help the cause as well.

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:46 PM

And the mushroom cloud should just be outlined...but whatever, I am game for anything.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2:48 PM

Just sayin' someone needs to get me a design soon if I'm going to do anything, or I'm just using the one we have.

Sorry Wes, but I think the consensus was to keep it as blow up ST. Matthews.

Way to go on spelling Burket's name wrong, Marc. And chris, this is short notice and our first attempt, so, screw it, just use the design that Phil posted and do a basic pattern. Since we're leaving it up to you, you decide the colors. And I am calling dibs on an XL.

I just read this quote from an article about the upcoming Brazil/Ghana game:

"If Brazil plays what it knows, it shouldn't have any problems getting past them," Brazil defender Roberto Carlos said. "How many world titles has Ghana won? None. How many has Brazil won? It makes a difference."

Now that is the trash talking I want to hear

adrian on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 3:44 PM

Later in the article, a Ghana player quoted:

"The Black Stars are not afraid of anybody, including Brazil," he said. "We have excellent players ... (Brazil) will have to suffer to win this match."

The last time these two teams met, Brazil beat them 8-2.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 3:46 PM

joe on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 3:48 PM

Thursday is my last day of work for this week and I am off all next week. I should be able to.

Wrecking Crew on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 4:08 PM

As of now, the T-shirt will be red with white lettering and the design is as above. 20 shirts, 10 L, 5 XL, 5 M. If you have any requests, Joanna will be hitting the place up on her way home, so you have about an hour for changes. I am going to be a cheap bastard and ask for more money if we don't get 20 takers for the shirts.

douglas on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 4:10 PM

i'm down for a shirt, i need an XL if any are left

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 4:13 PM

Chris - I believe it is understood by Natty Sci members that this is a break-even for you guys since you are willing to get them made. Shit if we have to we can cross out the logo and put GBITT Part Deux on the front for our New Years shirts, since Philco is so prompt with designs and the such.

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 4:15 PM

The only thing I am saying is that maybe Joanna should inquire if they can use the skyline and then add a mushroom cloud behind it...something a little more refined as opposed to a 7 year old scribbling.

That's all I'm saying.

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 4:16 PM

Chris if you can't pick them up someone will get the shirts.

Brock on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 4:16 PM

I'm going to my family's lake house this weekend. Thanks though.

Jay on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 4:57 PM

So, I was just at kroger's, and i'm leaving the dairy section. About halfway down the back of the store, looking at meat, I see a pretty hot chick. She has long black hair, and a fairly tight dress (not slutty tight, but the curves were visible). I get closer to take a better look. When I'm about 7 ft away, she looks up, and I do the typical Jay "oh crap, this chick noticed me checking her out" quick head turn. Well, as I turn my head, there is about 0.5 seconds of eye contact. That is when I notice her face looks like a burn victim. As I walk away, I feel guilty. This poor girl, who really is attractive, probably gets freaked out looks all the time. I wanted to explain to her that I wasn't staring at her because she is disfigured, but because she was hot. However, I realized that would make her feel worse. So in the end, I did the normal cut and run and feel guilty. I should have just introduced myself and asked out for drinks or something.

Marc on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 4:58 PM

Jay on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 5:02 PM

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 5:17 PM

You should have followed it up with a "Thank you very much"...Marc knows what I am talking about.

Nothing says Natty Sci like 7 year old scribbles and making disfigured ladies cry....must be a pre-cursor to GBITT part Deux.

Jay on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 5:24 PM

Dude, I didn't make her cry (that I know of). God, I'm such an ass.

Phil on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 5:35 PM

Phil on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 6:08 PM

I kinda like the idea of the Nike+ shoes. Up at the park I'd say about 40% of everyone already has some type of iPod on them while running. Having a device that keeps track of mileage, pace and other stuff and provides audio feedback on something that you are already using is kinda cool.

Not sure if it's worth the money, but I think it's a pretty neat little gadget.

Phil on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 6:11 PM

scratch that, the nike air plus is "only" $100. $100 for a pair of good running shoes isn't too bad.

Of course, whether or not you consider Nike capable of making a good running shoe is an entirely different debate.

Bigworm on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 6:34 PM

Phil, by tomorrow do you mean Tuesday or Wednesday? I am assuming tomorrow means Tuesday. Last year it was cornhole at Osheas on Wednesday and Flanigans on Sunday.

My manager today is wearing shorts that are so freakin' short, that when he puts his arms down to his sides, his finger tips go past his shorts.

Being a dick, I asked if he goes fly fishing. His response..."No, never been". In response to that, i asked him is it suppose to flood today. His response "I don't know about flooding, but it is suppose to rain". Two other guys caught on to my jokes...my manager did not. Poor bastard.

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 10:31 AM

Joanna - You mean to do something well thought out....well that just isn't our style.

Of course what would be fantastic is if we had a t-shirt giveaway at the New Years Party.

Bigworm on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 10:47 AM

For anyone who likes Landrovers...the Freelander is undergoing the knife again and will be re-introduced as the LR2 in 2008. It is longer in wheelbase and is longer and roomier inside than the current Freelander model being built on the European Focus and Volvo S40 platform. Interesting little guy and they start out around $29,000 moderately loaded with leather seats, moonroof, etc..and completely loaded for around $34,000. Price of course is just speculation at this point, but the buzz is that BMW X3 owners will weep when this little guy rolls off the production line in England.

there is not an argument in the world anyone could make that would convince me genetics was responsible making him weight 1300 pounds. genetics might make you chubby, or affect your metabolism or something, but you gotta figure once you hit about 300-400 pounds, you need to start taking responsibility for that shit and put down the Big Macs and milkshakes.

Jerome on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 10:44 PM

Wes - what was that you said earlier about millionaires making bad decisions? I'm definitely entertained by Steven A. Smith and Greg Anthony ripping into the Knicks and Trailblazers. But what's with all the foreigners?!?!

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 11:01 PM

Yeah the best thing about the NBA draft is watching billionaires (owners) and millionaires (coaching staff) make bad decisions. OMG Portland was dogged all night long and don't even get me started on the Knicks (hiring Thomas to coach just blows my mind).

I agree that the Knicks could have got Renaldo Balkman in the 2nd round, but he is a pretty solid pick in my opinion. He is a high energy guy with pogo stick legs and he never tires in the game. He will rebound like Rodman and take it to the rim. He is also 6'7" (6'6 1/2") not the 6'5" that Bilas was saying. If you guys don't believe me, just look up his stats against Florida (game #1 14 pts (W), 6 rebs, game #2 8 pts 9 rebs and game #3 12 pts, 11 rebs)...the guy is close to a double-double on almost every night.

Bigworm on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 11:12 PM

And I am pissed about all the foreign players being there for the draft. I don't care about some Italian guy who will never be the next Dirk Nowitski. I want to see the US college kids invited to Madison Square Gardens and be there and watch them shake the commisioners' hand. Atleast I'd be able to understand the god damn interview afterwards.

Dave on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 11:28 PM

All these Chuck Norris quotes remind be of the skit on SNL about Bill Brasky the "best damn salesman in the office."

Some memorable quotes

"Bill Brasky once showed me a video of him making love to my wife, and it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw!"

"He'd eat a homeless person if you dared him!"

"His poop is used as currency in Argentina."

"Brasky drank a full glass of liquid LSD with his eggs. Then he slept for 8 months straight. When he woke he rubbed his eyes and said, 'All in all, I prefer gin.'"

"The Pope told him it was ok to have a mistress."

"He uses the Shroud of Turin as a golf towel."

"They use Brasky's foreskin as a tarp when it rains at Yankee stadium."

Brasky still believes in Santa Claus, and he wants to put him in porno films."

Phil on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 11:33 PM

To Bill Brasky!

Really, the whole Chuck Norris thing was really just a rip off of the Bill Brasky skits. In fact, I believe the ate a whole birthday cake before they told him a stripper was in it was originally from a Bill Brasky skit.

We expect the Hawks to draft stupid

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 8:59 AM

Here's some draft analysis that I liked courtesy of Foxsports.com

20. NEW YORK KNICKS
F RENALDO BALKMAN, SOUTH CAROLINA

DIME'S TAKE:And the crowd goes nuts... with anger. Renaldo Balkman??? Zeke better know something that no one else here knows about Balkman. We're at a loss with this one.

SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: Yikes. The roof's going to come off of this place. Personally, I don't think Isiah meant to take Balkman. I'm convinced he thought he was taking former Dallas Maverick and Knick great, Ronaldo Blackman. He probably remembered Blackman lighting him up in the 80s, saw the draft board, and decided, "Yes, yes that guy's good! Let's take him!" Charles Dolan then likely ate a $100 bill, took a bath in Poland Spring water, and said "Go For it!" The Knicks fans are beyond outraged. There's an "F-Dolan" chant going at full force, which I'm sure is really delightful for the ESPN sound crew. So the Knicks have Balkman. I can't wait until Isiah realizes it's not the guy he thought it was. And I can't wait until Nate Robinson hazes him next year. What a disaster this team is.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:01 AM

21. PHOENIX SUNS (traded to Boston)
G RAJON RONDO, KENTUCKY— Profile | Highlights

DIME'S TAKE: Is he going to Boston? If so, we know that Boston LOVES him...but didn't they just trade for Sebastian Telfair? Rondo is clearly a better fit for Boston than Phoenix. He's rangy, can get to the iron, but his jumper is suspect at best.
SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: The fastest team in the league takes the fastest player on the board. Rondo's one of those point guards that will randomly score 2 points, but have 13 assists and 18 rebounds in a game. I can't think of Rondo, though, without thinking of his old college teammate, Patrick Sparks. I loved Sparks' fashion statement throughout his career — receding hairline, huge baggy tee shirt under his jersey, plenty of perspiration.

Here's the link so I don't have to post them all.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/5739410

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:04 AM

I just love the ones with Knicks fans in them.

2. CHICAGO BULLS (traded to Portland)
F LaMarcus Aldridge, Texas— Profile | Highlights

DIME'S TAKE: The Blazers have done well for themselves tonight. Getting Aldridge is great for them. He brings size and can run the floor and he's a "character" guy. They get bigger along the front line and Aldridge can fill the void created by dealing Theo Ratliff. The Blazers got Raef LaFrentz in that Telfair deal, but Aldridge will do the dirty work down low that Raef can't or won't.
SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: The Knicks fans are in a real pleasant state right now. I look behind me, and see a furious 12-year old chanting "F-Dolan". His parents must be proud. He's not the only one. A grown man wearing a Jamal Crawford jersey (with no tee shirt underneath) is hoisting BOTH his middle fingers in the air. At who? Nobody knows for sure. When ESPN shows the Eddy Curry trade details on a Madison Square Garden big screen, the place explodes. "Fire Thomas" is now mixed in with "F-Dolan". Everyone's really peaceful. Like Woodstock, really. The Bulls take Aldridge and David Stern looks like a Skittle next to him. The Aldridge pick makes sense. After all, Luke "Napoleon Dynamite" Shenscher was getting big minutes for the Bulls last year. Then again, 2-14 in an Elite 8 game versus LSU isn't exactly what you want to see out of a #2 pick overall.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:05 AM

3. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
F ADAM MORRISON, Gonzaga— Profile | Highlights

DIME'S TAKE: We love this pick for Charlotte. He's the best basketball player in the entire draft and can step in right away and give the 'Cats 15 points a night from the jump. There was a thought that MJ wanted Rudy Gay here, but when a guy who probably should've been the No. 1 pick in the draft falls to you at No. 3, you have to take him.

SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: The Knicks fans have settled down a bit, and now the pick's in Charlotte's hands. In the crowd there's a fellow with a sign that reads "I Want a Gay in My Life". Hmm ... Oh, Rudy Gay. I get it. Kinda. The Bobcats take Morrison, the enigmatic long-haired, mustachioed scorer from Gonzaga, and the crowd erupts. Hopefully, this means the end of the cute "We Both Play X-Box" pieces on Morrison and Redick. ESPN snuck one in right before the draft, and I'm praying it's the last of it's kind. There's nothing cool about wearing a head-set and playing "Halo" with a guy 3,000 miles away. Nothing at all.

I am convinced that Brock was in Madison Square Garden last night (too easy)

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:06 AM

Wes ... the Cedric Simmons one -- #15 -- made me chuckle like mall Santa

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:15 AM

Did you see JJ (and his poetry at the end).

11. ORLANDO MAGIC
G J.J. REDICK, DUKE— Profile | Highlights
DIME'S TAKE: This is the perfect pick for the Magic. With Dwight Howard and an evolving Darko in the paint, J.J. Could thrive off open looks from deep. They need shooting, so grabbing the best shooter in the world with their pick is great for Orlando.

SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: The Orlando Magic take Redick, arguably the greatest shooter on Earth. Redick joins Dwight Howard and Darko Milicic on what instantly becomes one of the most intriguing teams in the league. The Madison Square Garden crowd boos. Unlike me, they apparently HATE J.J. Redick, AND his poetry. The "Over-Rated" chants start, and cameras flash. ESPN cuts to Dick Vitale and he seems to be crying. Redick then scurries off the stage so he can jot his thoughts down in a poignant haiku:
Taken by Magic
Will miss my Xbox at school
No More Appletinis

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:16 AM

i just like this line from the hawks pick of shelden williams:

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:25 AM

This shit is just comedy gold.

27. PHOENIX SUNS (rights traded to Portland)
G SERGIO RODRIGUEZ, SPAIN

DIME'S TAKE: Reportedly, Sergio is going to the Blazers. He's not a crazy athlete, but he could be a great pg down the road. There are questions about his defense and he clearly needs time to develop, but the Blazers aren't counting on him to contribute this year.

SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: I'm told by the guy next to me that Sergio Rodriguez won't be ready for "at least 3-4 years". Well, that's not a long time or anything. Meanwhile, the same guy tells me that there's a Madonna concert going on upstairs. He seems way too excited about this. He asks me what my favorite Madonna song is. I respond "I love them all." He nods, agrees, and buries his head into his laptop.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:26 AM

Like I said, the reason why I love the draft is because you get to see rich people make bad decisions.

SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: So, let me get this straight. The Knicks PASSED over Marcus Williams at 20, but took ANOTHER point guard at 29? Were they that worried someone else would snag Renaldo Balkman? The NBA handed out a "Media Draft Guide" with more than 80 players in it. Renaldo Balkman's not one of them. The Knicks fans don't even seem mad after the Collins pick. They seem depressed, defeated. I just saw the Jamal Crawford guy put his head in his hands. Poor Jamal Crawford guy. Tonight was supposed to be his night. It wasn't.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:29 AM

SCHRAGER ON THE SCENE: Great stuff out of the NBA right now. They just handed out a bunch of faces-on-sticks of Russ Granik. The crowd has a "We Want Russ" chant going, too. You've gotta love Granik — the face of second round steals and NBA sturdiness. Granik looks like a dorky uncle, and who doesn't have a soft spot for their dorky uncle? Meanwhile, a British guy who looks 12 was just taken. Joel Freeland's highlights are not of him. The one ESPN just showed had him running the floor and not even touching the ball. Yep, just a shot of him running up and down a basketball court. Really, how could anyone pass on this guy? I'm stunned he slipped until 30.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:33 AM

I love this shit. Okay I know I posted way too many of those damn analysts things...but I am convinced that is comedy gold, better than anything else I have seen lately.

Marc on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:34 AM

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:10 AM

Oh who didn't see this coming.

http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/5738030

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:11 AM

After seeing those photos I am convinced John Daly is the best partier and he has the pictures to prove it!

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:38 AM

Chris here is that Indian actress I made reference to.

http://images.google.com/images?q=A...tart=0&sa=N

Yeah she is smokin' hot and she also won Miss World in 1994.

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:40 AM

as a single player, yes, john daly might be tops, i remember when he was in town for the PGA, I followed him around for awhile during the practice rounds, and he's got to be the most fun guy on the tour, he's very loose and doesn't take himself too seriously. He was talking to the crowd the whole time while the other players were all uptight during the practice rounds. As a collective unit though, baseball players have got to be the biggest partiers / drunks.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:41 AM

This is what I don't understand about the draft. Instead of taking a European player who isn't an immediate impact, why not draft Taquan Dean or Mike Gansey or Maco Killingsworth who you know will at the very least give you spot contributions.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:42 AM

You see soccer fans, do you not think that European Soccer players party? Take the blinders off Douglas.

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:42 AM

everybody thinks long-term, nobody wants a flame out, these 'rebuilding' teams want a long-term solution, which is why they draft those guys, which is why they are continually 'rebuilding'

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:44 AM

soccer's not a real sport, anybody can kick a ball around, let's see those soccer players hit a 90mph fastball down the middle of the plate, much less a curveball that's coming right at your head and drops in for a strike.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:45 AM

I agree, so you get the draft right and I guess you can pick up the Dean type guys as Free Agents (similar to my man Chuck).

Let's see you take a 90 mph soccer ball to the face.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:45 AM

don't base the players on the fans. Baseball players can tolerate putting on beer weight and still playing. That is why we have first base and DH.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:46 AM

The next thing you are gonna tell me is that trampoline basketball isn't a sport either because anyone can jump around on a trampoline right! Well that is just horseshit I tell you.....horseshit.

F-dolan!

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:48 AM

Ah this is where I was confused at. I confused baseball players with athletes. Any sport where you can be really overweight (like me) doesn't constitute as having athletes.

Therefore, athletes play sports, so baseball isn't a sport because no athletes. Instead baseball is the biggest party on the planet. And soccer has the best partiers in the sports world....not sure about that because look at those picture of Dirk.

Philco - maybe you can find some drunk soccer players for us.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:50 AM

Don't base the players on the fans is like don't draft players on potential...we all know it just happens.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:52 AM

Soccer is so gay I bet it uses the metric system

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:53 AM

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:55 AM

and France

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:55 AM

first off, i've never take a soccer ball to the face, b/c that would mean i'd have to play soccer, and my heterosexuality and utter coolness prevents me from doing so. second, you're right, it doesn't take an athlete who's in shape to hit a ball 400 ft., or run and make a diving catch in the outfield, or gun a guy at home plate from the warning track. Obviously there are less skilled positions in baseball, such as the DH, but what the fuck is a goalie? He doesn't run around the field, he stands there and catches and blocks balls, which come to think of it, is exactly what a first baseman does.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:56 AM

Or the catcher.

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:56 AM

except a first baseman has to catch a ground ball or throw a guy every now and then

Or Pitcher....david wells...need i say more

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:57 AM

Soccer players like taking balls to the face

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:58 AM

baseball players like holding huge pieces of wood

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:58 AM

hell i was pitcher and a terrible athlete

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:58 AM

In the words of John Kruk "I'm not an athlete; I'm a baseball player".

Furthermore, he is proof that it doesn't take a man to play the game (a man has both balls!)

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:59 AM

absolutely no one can tell me a pitcher isn't an athlete, conditioning yourself to throw 90 mph is not exactly an easy thing, much less doing it for 100 pitches every four/five days over the course of a 162 game season. it takes a lot more stamina than you might think.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 10:59 AM

And it doesn't take stamina to run around on a field for 90 minutes straight plus stoppage time. C'mon now, your pitcher just stands there and throws.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:00 AM

Pitching is the most unnatural motion you can make in sports. I am evidence of the wear and tear of pitching

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:00 AM

David Wells? Try Babe Ruth? The greatest baseball player in history, and one of its best pitchers, was an overweight fatass. But what is your definitiion of an athlete?

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:01 AM

I would say baseball is less conditioning than other sports

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:01 AM

I know it takes a lot of stamina to be a pitcher, however, more energy is wasted in soccer.

But no wonder why baseball is America's Past Time. A country embraces a sport where fat overweight men are looked to as idols. I wonder why most American's are overweight?

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:01 AM

Babe Ruth was like ELvis. The was a late in his career fat Ruth. He was that fat in his prime. Gehrig dwarfed him.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:02 AM

Joe - you aren't helping your cause.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:03 AM

Basically you are saying to be an athlete is to have stamina and run all day?

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:03 AM

You all said earlier in the world cup there is a fat Rhanaldo now

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:04 AM

If an athlete involves stamina, than swimmers and soccer players, and hockey players take the cake.
However, if an athlete can excel at a game, than anyone can be considered an athlete. I bet that fat Mexican dude that ways 1200 lbs is one hell of a toe wrestler.

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:04 AM

joe meant to say he wasn't that fat in his prime, and you said it yourself, more energy is WASTED in soccer than baseball, partly b/c most of soccer is pointless, and mostly b/c soccer itself is a waste

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:04 AM

Joe - I disagree. This has to be the most unnatural motion in sports history.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:05 AM

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:10 AM

has anyone ever seen a soccer player on the cover of muscle and fitness? Baseball players have

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:10 AM

I saw barry bonds on the cover of cream & clear magazine

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:11 AM

Muscle and Fitness is a magazine for the American masses. Of course, they will choose baseball players (America's Past Time) not because they are the most fit partiers (not athletes) in the world.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:11 AM

I was going with brad fulmer, jay payton and scott spezio to name a few

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:13 AM

sports guy:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page...=simmons/060629

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:14 AM

Soccer is, what I believe to be, the only true sport. Why would I say that? Because I feel it is the only game where you are always at a true disadvantage on the offense. It is loads harder to run with a ball under control than to just kick it away from someone; which is why the scoring is so low. Baseball, basketball (because the hoop is over the defender's head), hockey; all these sports have equal ground on offense and defense. Hockey is low scoring cause the fat goalie can just block all the shots (by the way, that's not true. I was goalie once, and it really fucking sucks).
And David Beckham is a model; as many soccer players are. They just aren't on magazines here cause no one knows who the fuck they are.
Baseball players can be in good shape; but I wouldn't say it's a requirement. Tell Barry Bonds to run a marathon and he'll die. But once again, we are back to what the definition of an athlete is.

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:15 AM

I think Kobiashi is an athlete.

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:17 AM

wow, that was a very credible web site worm...good find (sarcastically speaking)

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:18 AM

That was actually pretty funny Wes. The second player on that list plays table tennis for her sport.
Ha ha ha. Table tennis for athletes.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:18 AM

Why do you think I posted it for dumb dick! Much like the Fitness Magazine you can tailor anything for your cause.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:19 AM

Shit if baseball is a sport, table tennis definately is.

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:19 AM

wes, #2 in your article was a table tennis champion, that gets a lot of credibility

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:20 AM

You know what I really want to see? Someone with "house for sale" painted on the side of it.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:20 AM

chris is a baseball player and he can kick all of your asses

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:21 AM

Table Tennis speaks volumes. To be able to run around like the chinese do, and hit those incredible shots they do. More stamina than baseball.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:21 AM

I'm not worried about Chris kicking my ass anytime soon.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:21 AM

Don't forget #3 being a race car driver.
You got to be fit I guess to squeeze into that coffin on wheels.
Table tennis is tough though. I'd be world champion if I didn't have that injury I sustained. Got beat by that fucking handicapped midget.

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:22 AM

chris is a baseball player...or chris was a baseball player?

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:22 AM

either way

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:23 AM

How about this. Baseball has athletes. Just not American baseball? Willl that work for everyone? Those Japs, Koreans, and Cubans are some athletes boys. They all kicked our asses.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:23 AM

if you were in a fight who would you want on your side freddy adu or adam dunn?

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:24 AM

Read the Bible Joe - we all know how David and Goliath turns out.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:25 AM

I'd want Freddy Adu, he'd just run until Adam Dunn had a heart attack.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:26 AM

You run away and adam dunn has his way with your woman

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:26 AM

does adam dunn have a bat or not have a bat?

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:26 AM

But to answer your question that would determine where the fight was at. outside so Adu can run around, I will take him all day long (would be pretty funny watching Dunn try to get a hold of him). In a 3x3 foot cage...Adam Dunn because he would just lay on him and stay motionless like baseball players are good at.

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:26 AM

that wouldn't be a fight then, and while we're on that, those UFC fighters and boxers might be better athletes than all of these other people, the stamina you need to go 12 rounds is unreal, plus you have to be in peak physical condition every time you fight. They probably train harder than anyone

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:27 AM

Yah, George Foreman was one hell of an athlete.

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:27 AM

great comment joe

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:27 AM

Boxers train harder than anyone....period.

adrian on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:28 AM

they don't train harder than Tekura Kobayashi or how ever you spell that hot dog eating fuckers name

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:28 AM

From Dictionary.com:
Athlete: A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts.

So therefore, they're all athletes as long as they're kicking someone's ass at something.
So shut the fuck up now.
Bye bye

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:28 AM

George Foreman took punches till the other guy wore out then threw 1 haymaker

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:30 AM

Just think of the stamina needed to shove a lightbulb up your ass. That dude is an athlete.
Any takers on outdueling that feat?

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:31 AM

You know this from experience

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:31 AM

Experience in posting it 5 minutes ago? yes.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:31 AM

See here is the problem though, I wouldnt' back down from Adam Dunn. Call me stupid, but I know where I can hit him and take him down. And thats right, if someone ever really pisses me off to the point to where I am actually throwing strikes (punches are for pussies) first thing is a spear hand to the throat or a spinning backfist to the temple or a ridgehand to the jaw (I believe results will be similar to Joe's injury). Or with the much taller Dunn a sidekick to the side of the knee will make him wish he walked away (and I will send some business to Chris).

It is different fighting someone who is big versus someone who knows how to fight. Now if you put me a 5'9" boxer or cage fighter in their...I will walk away because I know that is who I really dont' want to fuck with.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:32 AM

I was going with experience shoving things up your ass

I'm not fucking with Chuck Norris. Read those facts about him....I bet atleast 1/2 of them are true.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:49 AM

But the only thing saving grace is knowing that he is opposite of you is he either hits a home run or strikes out so if he hits you, you are out, but he only is gonna knock you out 25% of the time (based on his career average).

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:49 AM

He also signed to play football in college for your boys the Texas Longhorns

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:51 AM

Now Joe, let's not get baseball and football confused here. Football players are athletes.....by default Dunn isn't an athlete.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:51 AM

I wouldn't really consider it an argument...because arguing over the internet is for retards.....we are debating...yeah that it...debating.

Marc on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:21 PM

Holy Shit, big post day for the sci. All this happened while I was in one class too. impressive. Not to go back to it (and not that I have much room to talk) but you don't generally find and out of shape professional soccer player. I played soccer for a longtime growing up but stopped when i just got too fat too play. Baseball doesn't have this. if you can hit, you can play. Soccer doesn't have designed kickers, and the goalie has to do a suprising amount of work even though he tends to stay in one area, like a pitchers. There are many athletes in baseballs, but not all are traditional "athletes."

John Daly does party like a rock star and was on a special about gambling pro "athletes." Charles Barkley has said to loose close to $20 million gambling, whereas Daly has lost over $50 million.

That being said. about 43 more posts to make this post day number 1.

Marc on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:23 PM

Do you still have all that red bull too Douglas? Because I'm sure quite a few Jagerbombs will be consumed at BUSM.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:23 PM

no comment

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:24 PM

bottom line, you don't find out of shape baseball players either. u don't find this in college, at least not successful players, and u most definitely don't find it in the professional ranks. no matter how fat u think david wells is, he's still very much in shape. i read an interview with him when he talked about his workout regimen, and it's really not too shabby

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:26 PM

Who has to work on the 5th?

For BUSM, grill will be lit and basically bring food. Basically like past years, I will be there all day bring whatever youi want to eat and it will get grilled. I am making chicken wings and whatever else anybody brings. Queso will be too.

Anybody bringing explosives or are we relying on the neighbors?

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:26 PM

Marc - we have moved on from the whole baseball players not being considered athletes...quit being lame.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:28 PM

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:28 PM

Chris Sabo was an athlete

Marc on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:29 PM

oh, and as far as my snafu at trivia on Monday (it was at 7 Adrian)....
Aristotle did teach Alexander the great. Aristotle was played by Christopher Plummer and was barely in the movie. Te movie began and ended with Anthony Hopkins (playing and old friend of Alexander's) telling of how he changed the world and what we will learn from him in the future. I said Socrates becuase I thought Hopkins was teaching Alexander (since I saw that crap movie just once) and was dressed up like the dude from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. (AKA: So-Crates)

I was wrong, and though my rationale was faulted no other else stepped up. and then bashed me for being wrong. I think form now on you can't bash someone else's answer after turning it in, unless EVERYONE is aware of your answers. and "I don't know, but it's not that." is not a valid enough answer.

I'm done with athletes, too. realized it was way past due. just got on and wanted to say my peace....as the fat guy.

I have my first day of new classes on the 5th. wtf? at least i'll be done with those days by 1pm. so adrian if you ever want to go to lunch during the next month call me and consider about 1:30pm eating time.

Jim Abbott is an athlete too. I mean he's the only one-armed baseball player i know. I've played with a one-armed soccer player. he went on to be a ref. and once a player threw the ball at him for the throw in. so he had to let it hit his chest and gave the kid a "thanks a lot, ASS" look. it was legendary.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 2:40 PM

There is another one handed player in the minor leagues right now, I hope he makes it. You don't really need hands for soccer do you?

Kuwait City has a proposed building that is 1000 meters tall. That should have a great view when a scud missle goes flying in the city.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:04 PM

So, on to another topic...
I was discussing with Brock about Back to the Fucking Future Part III right? Well, the quagmire is that Marty and Doc need gasoline for the Delorian to get it back to the future, as the fuel line was hit in the one Marty brought with him. However, why couldn't they just use the fuel from the Delorean that was already there; you know, the one that Doc brought with him and left for Marty 70 years in the future?
That discussion there should break the record.

Phil on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:10 PM

Because doing so might disrupt Marty and 1955 Doc from uncovering it in the future.

Duh.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:17 PM

Not true. First off, Marty could easily get gas for it in 1955. Second of all, they wouldn't have to siphon all the gas from the Delorean, just what they needed. Considering they only need to get the car to 88 mph, they would probably need only 1/2 gallon of gas.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:18 PM

Hmmmm...I would think that the gasoline being left in that vehicle for that period of time would be detrimental to the performance of the car. I am not even sure if it could get to 88 mph.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:18 PM

We got Bud, Bud Light, all Bud products.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:19 PM

Yah, the car in 1955 probably wouldn't have useful gas anyway. They'd just be wasting it by leaving it in there.

Phil on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:20 PM

No, no. Doc buried it. They'd have to unbury it, which would could cause problems in the future for them finding it. Think 4th dimensionally. Plus, as wes mentioned before you store a car for periods of time your drain the gasoline. Doc mentions putting new tires and gas in the car in 1955.

The real problem is that gasoline would have been available in 1885, just not widespread.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:23 PM

Ok, how about this one,
Biff goes and gives the book to young Biff, how come Marty and Doc's future doesn't change around them, only when they return to 1985?
You know what I think? I think that whole space-time continuum is a bunch of bullshit.

douglas on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:31 PM

three more posts after this one and we're in 2nd place for most posts in a day

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:32 PM

Hmmmm...but the gasoline available in 1855 and 1955 for that sack would have contained lead and in a delorean isn't it unleaded fuel only? I suspect the lead and the lack of a higher octane (need 93 atleast for the delorean) would have caused knocking in the engine. Who knows, after being buried for so long you would think that some dirst and dust would have contaminated the engine compartment.

I dunno....I find it hard to believe that they can pick up the delorean 70 years later and let it run smoothly.

Jay on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:33 PM

The delorean might have already been out of gas when doc buried it. And the present did change. There was an article in the paper about the doc being put in an institution, and marty was supposed to be at a boarding school. Marty and Emmet were most likely caught in a time bubble and/or trapped in an alternate dimension.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:34 PM

From the timeline site:
Biff quickly returns the DeLorean to 2015 undetected (before any past alterations have taken place), and Doc, Marty and Jennifer depart moments before it fades away.

Before any past alterations have taken place? They took place 60 years ago! What the fuck is that supposed to mean!

I think I justed ended the streak of most consecutive post with the word blow in it

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:39 PM

Exactly, if the setting changed in 1985 and Doc was institutionalized, he could never have invented the time machine, and old Biff could have never gone to the past.

Fry: I did do the nasty in the past-y.
Nibblonian: Verily! And that past nastification is what shields you from the brains. You are the last hope of the universe.
Fry: So I really am important? How I feel when I'm drunk is correct?

I swear I was here. Oh wait I was probably reading sports guy

Wrecking Crew on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 4:05 PM

Not to beat a dead horse or anything (because none of us woould do anything like that), but wrestlers (the real thing and not WWf) have to be some of the best conditioned athletes of any sport. 6 minutes on the mat will kick anybody's ass. Anything can be a fucking sport as long as a winner comes out of it, but not all sports require athletic ability.

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 4:06 PM

Chris wait for me before you go to the game

Follow-up to Wes' soccer post (about 203 posts ago)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060629...wBHNlYwN5bmNhdA--

In short, the English ref who gave 3 yellow cards in a game is quitting international soccer.
Supposedly he had many sleepless nights. So would I if I were a soccer ref:
"Hey honey, you really want your team to win? You got to pay the piper than"

joe on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 4:23 PM

woohoo I'm on vacation

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 4:25 PM

And married people are not gay. Every chick in the world wants a married dude. Similar to how every chick in the world wants a fag. However; there in lies the difference. A chick has no chance with a fag. And with a married dude? Well that depends on the chick doesn't it?

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 4:26 PM

Hmmm....Baron how do you know that those refs didn't offer some honeys that opporutnity? I mean did you see the chicks at world cup?

Dave on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 4:59 PM

Fuck...you all are some prolific posters today...well done Natty Sci.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 5:03 PM

You know, I've been to Brazil; and I ain't never seen chicks anywhere near that hot in Brazil. My guess is, they're Germans wearing Brazilian shirts.

For some fantastic world cup hotties, check the Natty Politics; if the links are still good. It's really too bad Sweden got knocked out; in more ways than one. I'd much rather have the Albicelestes taking on the Swedes.

Green Baron on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 5:04 PM

And I'm saying some hot Italian honeys got to the ref in their game versus the Aussies. That call was a load of shit that just handed the game away.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 5:09 PM

I agree. Those refs were corrupt, but I don't blame them.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 7:44 PM

Philco - when are you going car shopping?

Phil on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 8:44 PM

Stephen A Smith heckled for seven minutes during the draft:
http://www.deadspin.com/sports/espn...ercy-184275.php

Car Shopping has been put on hiatus. I am beginning to think that dropping $27,000 for a car that I'll drive 5000 miles a year might not be a wise decision. More and more I am liking the new civic.

Phil on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 9:10 PM

never mind, on the edmunds forums it seems it is a bunch of people that have become experts at spotting others' oil leaks, broken seals, tire problems, alignment problems and all sort of problems that seem to crop up with almost every civic. which might be expected with a first year model.

When do the 2007 ones come out?

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:40 PM

Philco - Yeah probably not the best decision...but then again...if you did buy it, it should last you forever.

Bigworm on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:43 PM

Ford Fusions are pretty nice.......and not a whole lot of money.

However, I think for my next car I might go pre-owned...it all depends on how long my camry lasts and what type of car I want.

If I do get something new, I really like the Audi A3...and from all the car magazines I read, they say stick with the A3 2.0T FWD as oposed to the A3 3.2L Quattro. The 2.0L is lighter and gives you a much more nimble feeling and the Quattro doesn't out perform it by much...and you pay about 8K less.

I still have 5 1/2 hours until my vacation starts. Bastards. And to once again beat a dead horse, Chris, the wrestlers in the WWE are very athletic. Well, most of them. It takes quite a bit of stamina to do what they do. You can call it "fake" if you want to, but I would say most of them would be competitive in other sports. Most of them.

Brock on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 2:42 PM

I have decided to never diss a particular sport, it always comes back to bite me in the ass. Golf, for example. I hated it. Then I played it. Then I played while drinking beer. Then I played it while drinking beer with alligators on the course. Now, I enjoy golf... not to watch, but to play mostly.

I still can't get into auto racing too much, but I'll watch it if someone else it interested. The best introduction to any sport is to play it or watch it with someone who is really into it... then... you can appreciate it.

I have a feeling, Douglas, your daughter is going to be the next Mia Hamm, and you are going to regret everything you have been saying lately.

douglas on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 2:53 PM

i'd be perfectly fine w/ her being the next mia hamm....cuz then she's be rich and buy me stuff in my old age

douglas on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 2:54 PM

but i still won't like soccer, and for the record, i was watching it was a bunch of guys from my office that are hardcore into soccer and were going nuts during the shootout

Brock on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 2:55 PM

Then apparently there is something wrong with your testosterone. Man up.

Jay on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:02 PM

1 hour left!

Church on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:03 PM

Wes, a melee sort of broke out. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foo...any/5135124.stm

adrian on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:07 PM

i wish i didn't have to work the day after the 4th of july. Work blows!

adrian on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:07 PM

Church, you are still gay!

Church on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:10 PM

Adrian you are the gayest of the gay. You're so gay, they kicked you out of a screening of Brokeback Mountain because your exceptional gayness was making people uncomfortable

Church on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:11 PM

You're also a bitch

adrian on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:18 PM

Oh Church, i forgot to ask how your wedding in San Francisco was?

Church on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:26 PM

Funny Funny. I forgot to ask how yout trip to New York for fleet week was?

Brock on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:46 PM

Ahhh... welcome back Church... there was definitely a severe lack of "gay-calling" while you were gone.

Brock on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:46 PM

So does this mean that Adrian, Church, and I are the only ones still at work?

adrian on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:47 PM

Unfortunately....when are you coming in to town brock?

Jay on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:49 PM

Almost there!

Jay on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:49 PM

And by the way, I'm still at work for another 12 minutes.

Brock on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:57 PM

I'm coming back into town Monday night. I'll be staying through Wednesday. I have to be there when B-mac blows off his arm with a firecracker, Wes and Douglas break their backs playing on a trampoline, Chris officially becomes an old man, and to watch Big Jay jump over swimming pools to the tune of Chariots of Fire.

Brock on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:57 PM

Are they going to do Trivia on Monday?

If everyone is on vacation, we may be able to field several teams and just sweep all the prize money up.

Jay on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 3:58 PM

I'm out of here, suckas!

Phil on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 4:15 PM

Yeah I saw all of that Church....that was a poor attempt at a Melee...when the fans get involved...that would have been a Melee!

Jay on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 6:29 PM

Marc, how the hell did you find that?

Dave on Saturday, July 01, 2006 at 9:49 AM

Remember Phil's crime reports about the group of kids causing all the havoc downtown. Turns out its the Bad News Gang. Full story here.
